The matter of the restriction explains how an incomplete operation emerged from the perfect operator (Baal HaSulam, The Study of the Ten Sefirot, Part 1, “Restriction and Line,” Inner Observation, Chapter 1, Item 9).
The fact is that everything in the universe is arranged so that created beings can discover, attain, understand the Creator, come closer to Him, and even connect with Him.
That is the purpose of creation—to bring creation to absolute adhesion with the Creator. This is possible only through equivalence of qualities of the creation and the Creator. That is why everything is created this way.
Question: Does it mean that the creation must first restrict its qualities and then become similar to the Creator?
Answer: The creation must restrict those qualities that are opposite to the Creator and develop qualities similar to His within itself.

The ARI elaborated on the matter of the first restriction in the first chapters of this book. This is a very serious matter (Baal HaSulam, The Study of the Ten Sefirot, Chapter 1, Inner Observation, Item 9).
The first restriction is the most important matter, since it is about restricting the use of egoism. The entire creation begins with this.
That is, the first restriction is a restriction of intention, a prohibition to receive for one’s own sake, what is called Tzimtzum Aleph.
Question: Are there any physical laws that correspond to this restriction? Is it somehow manifested in our world?
Answer: No, it cannot be manifested in our world. Otherwise, we would see a different world. Our world is built on absolute egoism in its different variations.
Comment: But we have read that there is nothing in our world that does not have a spiritual root.
My Response: The root, but not the equivalence.
Question: Then should there be a branch of this restriction in our world since this law must be manifested somehow?
Answer: This law is manifested, but in such a way that we do not feel it. We are in absolute restriction, but we do not feel that it impedes us or restricts us because we do not feel anything opposite to it. There is only one desire in us—to receive, to use our egoistic intention.
Question: Are we really in restriction? We receive for our own sake for our entire lives.
Answer: Precisely this is life in restriction. We receive for our own sake, but we do not even feel that we are doing it only for ourselves.
That is, the first stage of a person’s spiritual development consists of understanding that he really receives for his own sake and is opposite to the Creator. This is what stops him. He starts thinking, “How can I get out of this limitation?”
Question: What other types of restriction are there?
Answer: A restriction on receiving pleasure. There is nothing else. It is only necessary to understand that I live in pleasure for myself and have to begin to restrict it.

Comment: In the article “The Last Generation,” Baal HaSulam writes that when the majority of people in the world will be in the quality of bestowal, in the quality of the Creator, then people will stop communicating at all, meaning talking.
My Response: They will communicate in a different way, at the level of thought. Their thoughts will be transmitted to each other. People will express themselves more concretely, more conventionally, and concisely.
Question: You and your teacher spent a lot of time together. Did you talk a lot or were you silent more?
Answer: He answered only if I asked, and if I did not ask, he was silent. We spent a lot of time with our eyes closed and not saying anything to each other. These were the best hours!
Question: So you could not just start talking about something with him?
Answer: I could. But I understood that it had to be something serious.
Question: In principle, is this the way to relate to everyone? If there is something to talk about, then talk only about serious things or it is better to be silent. Is this your advice?
Answer: Yes. This is the right attitude toward time, toward the world, toward everything.

Comment: During the pandemic, one of the biggest problems was the inability to hug—among relatives, parents and children, and so on. So, in the Netherlands, they turned to the old idea of hugging cows. Whole farms were prepared for cow hugging. The cows were calm, and people would hug them for half an hour. The cow’s body temperature is slightly higher and their heartbeat slightly lower, which makes people relax. A person could sit for an hour hugging a cow. After that, we are told, the cows had to rest for two to three hours.
Answer: That is for sure.
Question: Why does a cow need to rest after people’s hugs?
Answer: So much negative energy accumulates in it! We transfer energy to the cow. I pass all my fears, worries, inner turmoils, and anxiety—I pass it all over.
Moreover, these may be some of my highest scrutinies about something almost cosmic, and the cow feels it. It has no interest in the topic; it picks up on the feelings themselves, the vibrations.
Question: Do we purify ourselves at the expense of the cow and leave it all there?
Answer: Yes.
Question: Does the same thing happen to trees when you hug trees?
Answer: I do not know, I have not tried it. But with animals, it is for sure.
Comment: But they say it works also with trees. You hug a tree and it absorbs everything from you.
My Response: And slowly withers?
Question: Maybe. We need to find out what happens to those trees. The question is: what is in these hugs?
Answer: There is an energy transfer. Negative energy from one being—living, vegetative, animal, or human (it does not matter)—to another.
Question: But sometimes you hug a person and feel good being with them. People hug all the time. Why is this at the very heart of our lives?
Answer: Communication. Communication at the level of energy.
Question: So, a handshake or a hug, all this is necessary?
Answer: If it comes from the heart, if you want it, rather than it being a sign of politeness.
Question: So, it is not for nothing that it is said to hug not people, but nature, that is, animals or plants. Perhaps it is more complex with people?
Answer: Of course.
Question: There are groups in which people hug all the time. And one constantly has to wish good things to the other person and so on. Is there something to this?
Answer: Yes, of course. I saw it at many exhibitions: people stand and hug everyone.
Comment: Yes. He opens his arms and hugs you.
My Response: And you cannot get out of there.
Question: This human thought—to pass warmth to another, to transfer all good things to another—is this good? Do you welcome such a state?
Answer: Yes.
Question: So, in fact, this is the transfer of energy. It can be positive or negative, but it is still an energy transfer. What do I get out of it? When I give away negative energy, I more or less understand I shake it off myself. But what about the positive one?
Answer: If we hug in order to make each other feel good, then it doesn’t matter who has positive energy and who has negative, we both gain. It is like an electric motor. There are plus and minus, but they should alternate and complement each other. It is the same here.
Question: So, even if pluses and minuses are all over, it is still good?
Answer: Yes.
Question: So you approve of such hugs?
Answer: Yes.
Question: Can we hug without hugging?
Answer: Sure. We can transfer energy to each other without contact, wirelessly, mentally.
Question: Will the other person feel that I am thinking of them this way?
Answer: Of course they will feel it. Look at someone from behind, look at their back intently; they will feel you are looking at them and turn around.

Question: In what system are the Kabbalistic books of Baal HaSulam described?
Answer: Kabbalistic books are always written in a digital system, but the feelings that you experience within you are analog. That is, Kabbalists put feelings inside the digital system.
But when people read, let’s say, the books of the ARI or Baal HaSulam’s The Study of the Ten Sefirot, it seems to them that everything is in the text, and they begin to study these books without entering into sensations. They try a step here, a step there, and check what happens.
The book, however, was written only in order to restore within you that state that is being discussed from its digital image, its digitization, in order for you to feel yourself inside it in an analog form.
In the corporeal world, this cannot be achieved because our fulfillment passes through a digital system. But spiritual fulfillment comes from the infinite light. Therefore it has all the best from both digital and analog qualities.

Comment: You said that if a person did not realize his function in time, then in the future it becomes a burden for them, heaviness and inability to do anything. But there is also a kind of heaviness when he did everything possible, but he was again loaded with additional Aviut (desire).
My Response: A person is burdened, but understands why, how, and what to do next. He is like a jumper who has jumped over two meters and now he has added another two centimeters.
Question: And what is the difference?
Answer: He understands which way and why it is needed. If he correctly completed the previous task, raised himself, and developed himself, then he perfectly understands where he is going next.
Question: And what is the difference between the initially set burden and the one that is given as an excess profit?
Answer: First, he is happy with the burden. If he completed the previous state correctly, the next one is desirable for him. Like that jumper who knows that he has to overcome two meters and two centimeters.
But if he began to slack off because of the previous achievement, that is, he did not finish it, did it wrong or delayed, and so on, then for him the two and two, which in any case come to him, become negative and undesirable.
He experiences them as a huge stress, as a burden in life in the form of problems at work, at home, diseases, the environment, it doesn’t matter what, all together. After all, the integral picture begins to put pressure on him with everything he depends on. His egoism, his desire to enjoy, feels negative emotions instead of positive ones he should have achieved.
If a person moving forward with the help of an integral methodology is delayed and he does not do what he should have done at the previous stage, then all sorts of haters turn against him, harassment begins, and so on. This happened even to the greatest Kabbalists.
However, do not reassure yourself that you are big and that’s why you are being badgered, try to do everything you can.
Question: What would have happened if he had implemented everything in time?
Answer: He would move forward easier and faster.
