What Do You See In This Picture?

Dr. Michael LaitmanBaal HaSulam, “The Teaching of Kabbalah and Its Essence”:  Whereas in the first discernment everyone receives equally without adding or subtracting, like Adam, in understanding the reality of this world. In viewing it, all are equal, but this is not so in understanding it—some evolve from generation to generation and some regress.

Everyone can see the same things in this world, the same phenomena. Yet, it depends on the one who sees them, whether it is a child, an adult, or an old person. The difference is in a person’s mind. After all, their senses have a mind that is behind them that analyze their perceptions; it depends on the level of one’s attainment.

It turns out that we live in very special wonderful conditions. There is no greater wonder than this world: The Creator created it and we can live in it and start our spiritual path from a state that is not spiritual. There is a reality before us that everyone can see, but everyone attains it according to his external understanding.

Suppose I took a photo of a friend working on the construction of our new building: For me it is just someone working, and only later I find out that he volunteers in brotherly mutual guarantee together with all the others, but the photo itself remains the same.

This is the uniqueness of this world: Here everything depends on how a person attains the “frames” that appear before everyone.

The Subtle Art Of Spiritual Work

Dr. Michael LaitmanSpiritual correction cannot happen in one limited field of life, in a single atom or a particle. It can happen only between all of them.

That’s why when we speak about unity and correction that happens according to the principles, “Do not do to others what you don’t want for yourself,” or “Love thy neighbor as thyself,” it actually is the method of correction. It transpires gradually, in accordance with the way our desires manifest themselves in us, to the extent of whether or not they can be corrected.

How does each desire become corrected? What does a desire “look like” before it is “fixed”? What makes a desire similar to the Creator when it corrects and how does He manifest Himself in this desire?

Desires to steal, kill, suppress, or take advantage of somebody are palpable and emerge in contact with others. Where our desires are less obvious, such as our relations with still, vegetative, and animate nature, it is very difficult to find the property of mercy. And with one’s peers it is clearly felt and seen.

Therefore the Torah gives very rigid instructions on the sequence of work that we have to do: concrete desires, their order, and combination, the ways they have to be corrected. It’s impossible to correct oneself solely through our relationships with others. We must add still, vegetative, and animate parts of nature, that is, desires that are lower and rougher, desires that are focused not only on people, but that are also oriented towards the world.

As a result, we’ll achieve complete adhesion among all of our desires in all directions and at all times. One has to learn to justify the Creator and others in everything that happens to one. Immediately, one will receive various and multiple reminiscences. The whole history, geography, etc. revives in one’s memory.

When we enter spirituality, there are very interesting pictures spinning when a person starts to fix his relationship with all people, characters, and properties of all times. It is as if one goes through various prior reincarnations and stories and once again deals with one’s attitude toward them, and as if scrubs oneself inside and transforms these stories.

After all, the picture of this world doesn’t really exist: it is drawn in us. All we have to do is fix all of its substrate, as a painter who first applies primer on the canvas, polishes it, then applies a few more layers of primer, and only then begins drawing a picture and building perspectives. It’s a gradual, step-by-step process and a lot of work.

It means that we have to go through all the prior developmental stages and they attain the Creator. In fact, after the descent of a soul from above to below and its subsequent ascent from the bottom up can we comprehend its structure and the way it emerged; however, it happens in the inverse order

Then, one reaches the “parent,” the Creator. One attains Him through the soul that one gradually corrects, thus becoming closer to Him.

This process can be compared with the art of painting. After all, when we return to a canvas many times and each time go deeper into it, we eventually begin comprehending the thought that inspired the artist, until we recognize the Creator’s thought to please the creation. In other words, the painting by itself is bliss, a pleasure; it’s the action that implements His thought in life. This is an example of the way His thought in its clear form can be perceived through the matter that was correctly shaped.

In the end, a person learns all the details of this painting, all His thoughts, the thought of creation that looms through the canvas. That’s how all worlds connect together and make one world: the world of Infinity, the world of the absolute attainment.

At The Forefront Of The Correction Process

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: I want to understand, what is Bnei Baruch?

Answer: Bnei Baruch is a special group of people that, for the first time in history, is meant to perform the correction of all of reality and reach adhesion with the Creator. This is happening for the first time not because the Creator has chosen a certain Kabbalist like in the past when he chose a Kabbalist in every generation who had to continue this chain. Here, it is about a real correction by a mass of people who pull all of humanity behind them. It is the first wave that is rising and attracted to Godliness.

The first group that is the vanguard of correction is the Bnei Baruch group, and I am leading it. There is nothing to be ashamed of. On the contrary, we should feel the great responsibility that we have and the support that we have. There is nothing to fear. We should learn how to stand between the two forces, how to cope with our inner enemies and those on the outside, with the entire world and with the general Pharaoh.

This is our work. It is impossible to advance any other way but between these two forces. We are in the middle, managing the battle, the struggle between us. The entire world is against us, and internally, we are also against this process! Still, we must identify with our points in the heart, and then we will succeed and win.

The war will be bigger, wider, deeper, more serious and more threatening as we advance. On the one hand, the world will understand that it has no choice since it is receiving one blow after another, and on the other hand, it still will resist. The Creator will increasingly harden Pharaoh’s heart.

It is time, in fact, to stop resisting because the world is falling into an abyss. However, there is such a hardening of the heart that a person doesn’t understand and doesn’t feel the danger. One may think that, after such heavy blows, people would agree, understand, come running to us, and demand the method of redemption, but the opposite will happen.

We must understand this process. It is a war that depends on us. The Creator cannot fight Pharaoh alone if we don’t use His force. Moses must stand between these two great forces, the Creator and Pharaoh, and by using his staff he should determine what this war should be exactly.

So, we must grow up and mature in order to feel and understand more. There is nothing to fear, but we simply should know that it is the war of correction and we should enjoy this process! I don’t mean that we should enjoy it in our ego, but we should be glad that this process has started and that we are the vanguard in the process of bringing all of Malchut of Ein Sof (Infinity) to correction.

Fear Falling Into The Penalty Circle

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: How can I prepare myself even if don’t have the power to do so, if I don’t have the fuel?

Answer: The importance of the goal is given to us from above and we are also sustained from above. There are no heroes here who themselves hold on by their teeth. Each of us lives thanks to the mercy of the Upper. The moment we are given the slightest hardening of the heart, we immediately begin to cry. Everyone is like that and there are no exceptions, and it isn’t that you are weaker than others!

But we should understand that exertions aren’t physical work that I have to do by force. If you overcome something by physical power, it means that it’s a lie. You cannot have the powers for real exertion, which is above human powers. If you can make efforts and do something, it isn’t considered exertion.

Exertion is the attempt to connect to the teacher, the group, and the books to receive the importance of the goal, the importance of the Creator, and the importance of action from them, and to operate on their fuel. You don’t have any fuel to exert yourself. But if you receive fuel through them you will have it.

This means that exertion isn’t just any kind of work, but only when you are attracted to the teacher, the group, and the books in order to be spurred on by them and to receive from them the fuel that you need for your work. Only this is considered exertion and nothing but it. If you had any fuel before you turned to the group, it means that it’s simply ego and not exertion. If you have fuel afterward, it means that you received it from above and this isn’t considered exertion either. The exertion is in arranging things so that you will be impressed by the group.

We have to constantly see these three means: the teacher, the group, and the books that are the link, the coordinators, that connect you to the Creator. There is no other source of energy or vitality. It’s your infusion, your pipeline of oxygen. If you don’t connect to it, you will die. If the friends constantly help you, you will never forget this. This is called mutual guarantee without which you won’t reach anything.

If you don’t use the chance that you are given, then you bring it back once again but you don’t know when: It may be in another ten years or perhaps in the next life. Every moment is detached from the previous one and no one knows when this opportunity will appear again. The current moment is concealed and you may wake up again only after many more lives. This can happen to any of us.

Perhaps only in two hundred years according to the program of development, will you finally receive an awakening again. A friend did not do something properly, was lazy, and you did not get through him what you were supposed to get, and thus went to the next round.

Question: It turns out that I have been already penalized and nothing depends on me?

Answer: It depends only on you; you just need to awaken friends. The Torah is given from above every day. If you created the conditions from below, please, have it.

The Unity Of The World

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from newsland): “Swarms of locusts accurately find their way through the desert to green valleys where there is food. But one creature, separated from the swarm, loses direction. Studying annual migrations of birds, scientists believed that old and experienced birds led their movements.

“But today, it has been found that migratory flocks have no leaders; often young birds that emerged from eggs in the summer and have no experience, are at the head of the flock. However, being separated from the flock, a bird cannot find the right direction. Fish also become ‘smarter’ when they are inside their school: a group of fish chooses the right direction while one fish cannot.

“Scientists put partitions in a termite colony that was under construction. Termites continued to work, and every passage, ventilation channel or space, which were divided by partitions, was exactly connected with each other.

“Having encountered a ditch during migration, mice and lemmings fill it with their bodies, so that others can continue movement. The trampled ones make no attempt to escape, forming a bridge for those who follow them. The strongest instinct of survival becomes completely suppressed.

“It has not been proved that the organisms, inhabiting the Earth, form a certain next, higher order entity; yet, this hypothesis has not been refuted either. Its undeniable advantage, however, is that it not only explains the ‘will’ of this or that population, but also offers a model of the world, in which there is no us or them, where everything living is interconnected, interdependent and harmoniously complement each other.”

My Comment: To prove the unity of the world it is necessary to reveal the single and only force that controls it: “There is none else besides Him.” The science of Kabbalah reveals this. Other sciences, based on the study of the world by egoistic limited properties, are not able to reveal this unity.

It’s Not Good To Be Alone

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: How can a person prepare himself correctly if he goes out to disseminate alone?

Answer: I believe that a person should not disseminate alone, but if there is no other alternative, then one needs to listen to a talk on the appropriate topic or even a song in order to tune into the correct wave. This will help to connect to the state that we have generated in the group because it exists around us.

However, if you are alone all of the time, then it certainly is not good.

Appealing To People’s Feelings

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What is the most successful way to reach a man, through his heart or mind?

Answer: We do not appeal to reason. We always try to bring people to the appropriate feelings so they can draw the right conclusion. That is, the heart is first, and then the mind.

The most effective way to reach the heart of people is to ask them questions that directly relate to their problems. Then we lead them to the possibility of solving these problems through unity, and they draw conclusions from this.

The Generation We Are Dealing With

The Generation We Are Dealing With

Dr. Michael LaitmanBaal HaSulam: “The Merit of Recollection”: And this is the matter of the diminishing value of the generations, until they have reached the last restriction in our generation in which “the wisdom of authors shall reek, and those who fear sin will be loathed,” since this is the state the masses are all in, and they don’t feel any obligation to engage in the Godly work and do not feel any deficiency when it is lacking. This is the form of our generation with whom we deal.

Baal HaSulam, “Introduction to the Study of the Ten Sefirot“, Item 36: We learn from the words of the Tikkunim of The Zohar that there is an oath that the Light of mercy and love will not awaken in the world before Israel’s deeds in Torah and Mitzvot will have the intention to not receive reward, but only to bestow contentment upon the Maker…

Thus, the length of the exile and affliction that we suffer depends on us and waits for us to merit the practice of Torah and Mitzvot Lishma. And if we only attain that, this Light of love and bestowal (Lishma), which has the power to extend, will immediately awaken, as it is written, “And the spirit shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding.” Then we will be granted complete redemption.
