Envy, The Main Motivation For Connection On The Social Networks

laitman_959Research (from UBC): “A new study by Sauder School of Business Professor Izak Benbasat and his collaborators shows that envy is a key motivator behind Facebook posts and that contributes to a decrease in mental well-being among users.

“Creating a vicious cycle of jealousy and self-importance, the researchers say Facebook leads users to feel their lives are unfulfilling by comparison, and react by creating posts that portray their best selves. …

“Benbasat says the functionality of social networks encourages envy-inducing behaviour, and that’s unlikely to change.”

My Comment: At the heart of human nature is a desire to enjoy fulfillment through: food, sex, family, wealth, honor, and knowledge. Nature (the Creator) wanting to develop creations, awakens selfish internal development (natural) and external, a feeling of envy in them.

As we develop, the importance of external influence increases. So we quickly come to a feeling of emptiness —the lack of fulfillment from our world as a whole and a need to search for content outside of it. Therefore, the social networks are booming.

New Life #512 – Virtual Life on the Way Toward Unity
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Yael Leshed-Harel

Summary

We are living in a transitional period in which all of our lives are entering the computer. The world of the future will be entirely digital; the new generation wants to experience the world only through the screen.

In the future the Internet will link us so we will feel connected and mutually dependent, as if we were sitting together in one living room. The developmental trend is to bring us to an integral link between everyone, as if we were a single family.

The traditional family unit is crumbling, each one is immersed in his screen. We will yet see that the future conceals within it a different form of connection. We are standing before a fundamental change in our lives. The screens will be part of our body and we will see the world through them. People will build new connections between them; they will learn a new language, the language of connection.

2015 – The Year Of Online Hatred!

laitman_959From the News (BBC news): “A social networking CEO is subjected to racist attacks on her own website. A cartoonist’s life is trashed by trolls. Women get rape and death threats. There’s a case to be made that online, 2015 was a year of increased hate.

Those of us who watch social media for a living – or who are long-time users of sites like Facebook and Twitter – realize that nastiness has always been a part of life online. But over the course of the past year or so, it seemed to some of us at BBC Trending that the steady background beat of online anger gradually turned into a pounding 24-7 drumbeat of angst, impossible to ignore.

“So we set out to see if levels of hate speech did rise on social media this year. …

“A recent analysis by the think tank Demos found that on average around 480,000 racial slurs are tweeted every month. Compare that figure to just 10,000 three years ago. The researchers admit that the vast majority of those uses won’t amount to hate crimes. But the numbers are still significant.

“‘A 4800 per cent increase is astonishing – far greater than the general increase in tweets over that time,’ wrote Demos research director Carl Miller. …

“Other experts agree – something has definitely happened over the past year.

“‘2015 saw a greater normalisation of hate speech in society than in previous years,’ says Andre Oboler, chief executive of the Australia-based Online Hate Prevention Institute. ‘Where previously a person might make a vague negative allusion to race, religion, gender or sexuality, by the end of 2015 the comments on social media were blatant and overt.’ …

“Oboler warns that young people will be turned off from social networks if abuse continues to increase. …”

My Comment: There is no doubt the Internet will rise above the period of bullying and will throw the bullies out. But this could take more than a decade naturally because its hosted merchants sell sensationalism and hatred.

The salvation will come from another side, not from the individual and society, but from the side of nature that develops the ego within us, and the new ego will prevail over new middle-class hatred, so that arrogant and hateful reactions will stop being interesting, and all these scoops will disappear by themselves, meaning they won’t have a buyer.

25 Years Of The Internet

laitman_959Question: We have gotten so used to living with the Internet, and it has only been around for a total of 25 years. It was created in 1990, designed for the employees of the secret European Center for Nuclear Research (CERN), and then it began to spread throughout the world.

Why did it develop so rapidly and how has this already encompassed the whole world?

Answer: First, this is a very convenient communications system between people that doesn’t obligate anyone to anything; this is the most important thing: to nobody and for nothing!

Second is the speed. The moment I press a button and send you a letter, you receive it and can respond immediately. I remember when I corresponded with my parents in Canada, it was a problem to write a letter, wait for an answer, and so forth. But now this  just takes a few minutes.

In addition, the Internet is with both audio and video, an illusion of direct communication, while you and I are at two ends of the Earth we see each other, talk, we only don’t smell each other. All forms of communication between us already exist; we send each other all kinds of contracts, lectures, decrees, orders, photographs, films, anything possible.

Today we cannot get along without this means of communication. Our world is always a reflection of the system of relationships that manifests in people, and at present we have achieved an integral, connected world.

Question: Does this mean that an inner demand has appeared in us?

Answer: Certainly! Necessarily! This is an inner demand of a person! This is necessary and imperative for us.

The Internet was established to show people that they have a means for direct communication with everyone, but they don’t know how to communicate correctly. This is the biggest problem, and the Internet reveals it. Look at what it is filled with and what it does.

It externally reveals all of the dirt of the inner states of a person so we can see who we are! We gradually accumulate this “garbage” and sometimes we look at it, are shocked, and decide that it is necessary to do something about it; it is necessary to clean our “stables.”

Another Tower Of Babel

Dr. Michael LaitmanOpinion (Andrei Miroshnichenko): “The real shock to civilization will be the introduction of a browser with the ability to translate from one language to another seamlessly, without effort on your part. Imagine you open a Chinese website and you understand everything on it. Or’re far away in Suriname also understands all instantly without any problems.

“This multilingual browser would be a disaster for this civilizational unit. …

“And we get another Tower of Babel. …

“If the printing press, according to McLuhan, established a national state, the multilingual browser, on the contrary, destroys the very principle of the national state, which built the modern world order.

“Strictly speaking, this browser is the full realization of the idea of the Internet. …

“In Western Europe, each wave of the media was accompanied by a certain adjustment period. For example, the first newspaper, in fact intended for the elites, emerged in the early XVII century. In the middle of the XIX century were invented the printing press and cheaper steam driven paper making, reducing the cost of production of the press, there were mass newspapers – the penny press, and there contemporary journalism emerged. That is, the distribution of newspapers from the elite to the masses took just about two centuries and formed a political system that came in the form of the general qualifying the same general reader for voting.

“In the first third of the XX century there was already a radio, even for the mass media, which did not require literacy. It played a crucial role in the formation of fascist, communist and commercial empires, that is, in the formation of modern advertising and promotion. Then came television and the Internet. Each wave of media has created new social relations. …

“… these processes are related to the ‘colorful revolutions,’ religious extremism, international tensions, all this is the ‘new Middle Ages’ – a reaction to the too rapid evolution of the media in recent years. Traditionalist consciousness, which is still at the stage of information broadcast from the ‘top-down’ is in conflict with the open architecture of the network, with its freed authorship.

“… the Gutenberg printing press led to religious wars, revolutionary and reactionary terror, redrew the map of Europe, the continent settled by three types of refugees: political, economic and religious.

“I believe that we are waiting for disasters, comparable in scale.

“More curious is how widespread computerization and speeding the flow of information is combined with counter-tendencies. …

“Imagine from two-dimensional space, we jumped to twelve. Of course, this is a shock. Inevitably, there are reverse reactions.

“The fact that changes are taking place in the media are not limited to changes in personal or social habits. …

“In the transition from book to media, restructuring occurs physiological brain.

“Reading involves language centers, and Internet surfing is a task. …the ability to skillfully use the information on the Internet is developing at the expense of the ability to read length. Internet surfing, incidentally, is very useful for the elderly. After all, the brain has to deal with many small unnoticed tasks: to click – not to click on a particular link. They say this almost invisible training helps Parkinson’s disease . But the brain of a young person in the transition to society from an online book loses the ability to concentrate.

“In fact, long-term focus on an abstract subject initially was not peculiar to man, and in the wild, even dangerous.. . Prior to the book, only priests and hunters were able to concentrate for a long time on one object.

“Thanks to Gutenberg, the ability to focus on abstract thoughts physiologically altered the brain of millions of people, which led to the explosive development of science, the discovery of vaccines, flight into space.

“Today multimedia effects on the brain leads us to the next round of the spiral. The older generation may still have some immunity, some reflection on the transition from the book to online. But the biggest problem here – the education of children. They have no experience of socialization offline, they think the Internet – is something that has always been. And they did not have experience of reading anything of length.

“There is a rhetorical question. For example, Nicholas Carr’s famous question about the Internet, does it make us dumber or smarter, I answer – ‘yes.’

“Immediately after it are seen new horizons – dimensional media, immersive media, induced reality, implantation device, finally connecting to the network of nerve endings.”

My Comment: Everything is evolving only to realize the program of nature, the unification of all of humanity into the image and system of an Adam (Man), a single man. The introduction of all kinds of media will need to complete the unification of everyone into a single organism, into one heart, desire, and mind. This will no longer expressed through technological attainments, but through voluntary ascent above our egoism according to the method of the wisdom of Kabbalah.

The Computer Learned To Understand People

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from The Telegraph): “Computers can determine your personality better than friends, just by analysing the posts you have ‘liked’ on Facebook, a Cambridge University study has shown.

“Now researchers, by analysing self-reported personality scores for what are known as the ‘big five’ psychological traits – openness, conscientiousness, extroversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism- have created an algorithm which can accurately predict personalities simply based on Facebook interactions.

“And, surprisingly, it knows your character better than your close friends.

“The team found that their software was able to predict a study participant’s personality more accurately than a work colleague by analysing just 10 ‘Likes.’

“Given enough ‘Likes,’ the software matched people’s self-reported personality traits more closely than family members. …

“But the researchers share the concerns of those who fear a dystopian future in which our traits and habits become an ‘open book’ for computers to read.”

My Comment: Everything is simple in the human being because he is made of only one desire to be fulfilled (to fill himself, to enjoy). It is possible to create the image of this desire by several (test) “likes.” Then, all the other person’s actions could be accurately predicted.

Having created such an image we already know what the person’s responses will be when you address him. Now, you just need to write a program to control the person—because a completely controlled robot is in front of you!

The Algorithm Of Truth

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (Infowars): “The new ranking system will instead use what it has determined to be ‘truth’ as its ranking tool. This Orwellian move opens the door for Google to homogenize thought and become the global arbiters of truth, with the ability to send content it declares as ‘untrue’ into the dustbin of obscurity.

“The term ranking refers to the position at which a particular site appears in the results of a search engine query. A site or a web page is said to have a high ranking when it appears at or near the top of the list of results provided by a search. Under Google’s current set up, the higher the number of incoming links to a website or page, the higher the ranking. The content is considered too, but much of it is about popularity.

“A recently published paper from Google outlines how it’s going to take care of that, by giving each website or page a ‘truth score’ determined by counting the number of ‘incorrect facts’ on its pages. A website having few ‘false facts’ will be considered trustworthy and will be able to rise in the rankings. The score computed for each page will be known as its Knowledge-Based Trust score.

“Google’s software will tap into its new Knowledge Vault, an automated data base currently being hailed as the largest store of knowledge in human history. The Knowledge Vault gathers and merges information from across the internet into a base of ‘facts’ about the world, and the people who live in it. These are facts the software agrees on and considers a proxy for truth, based on their being accepted as truth by the majority of people.

“Websites that contain information contradictory to what is in the Knowledge Vault, known as ‘untruths’ will be kicked down to the bottom of the ranking, where few eyeballs venture to go.”

My Comment: Everything is heading towards a person’s complete submission.. This is the call of egoism. If it were not for the purpose of creation bringing everyone to the likeness to the Creator through the realization of  the insignificance of our nature, then of course, Google’s management plan would succeed.

Developing Correct Communications In The Virtual Environment

Dr. Michael LaitmanIngenuous Hatred

Question: Contemporary means of communications created a new pattern of how people deal with each other, structuring a new social environment that lacks the former “ceremonies,” pretentious manners, and posturing. People’s interaction became direct, straightforward, plain and business-like. Pretentiousness was replaced by straightforwardness. Do you think we went overboard in this matter? Is it good that we have lost etiquette?

Answer: In other words, should we reanimate the lies that previously held our society together? No, that is in the past.

Comment: Still, the old style of communication somehow protected us from each other.

Answer: Yes, it distanced us and created an impregnable personal circle with rigid boundaries. This was done to isolate our egoistic hearts that are unwilling to tolerate anyone whatsoever.

Comment: However, unpretentious straightforwardness also triggers serious problems.

Answer: It is natural at the intermediate stage and it stimulates us to change ourselves. This is how the revelation and recognition of evil occurs. It is an essential stage in correcting the evil. Otherwise we wouldn’t acknowledge that there is an obstacle in our way, nor would we admit that we must take measures against it. Maybe I can continue to live as before?

Humanity was not any better off some 200 or 2,000 years ago. The only difference is that today our negative side became more obvious. We have lost gracious manners and stopped using pretentious and beautiful words. Previously, we would say: “Sorry, I have no time. Let’s talk later.” Today, there is no place for such courtesies. Our fingers text, “Go away. I hate you.”

Regeneration

It is very good since we approach the moment of truth! The truth is that we are liars and egoists; we all hate each other and we suffer because of our animosity. Nature requires a worthy connection among us to ensure our advancement.

What can we do if we are placed in a limited, closed sphere? Today, the whole Earth is too small for us. All of a sudden, we realize how much all of us depend on each other.

The nodes that bind us together will grow even tighter. Let me give you an example. Let’s say that a harmful enterprise is built in some country. The entire world is breathing in its stench and suffers because of the consequences of its activity. However, the government of the country where the enterprise operates says. “It is our territory. Here we are allowed to do whatever we want. We apologize for the inconvenience, but there is no other way to handle it.”

It turns out that we really have no other choice but to unite and bring the whole world a a new kind of relationship based on unity and interdependence. That’s when communicating in a virtual environment will, in another way, truly bind us, but not as it is today.

Manipulation Of The Masses Through The Media

Dr. Michael laitmanOpinion (Noam Chomsky, American linguist, philosopher, cognitive scientist, logician, political commentator and anarcho-syndicalist activist):

“Based on the work of American linguist Noam Chomsky, here is a list of “10 strategies of manipulation” by the media:

1. A STRATEGY OF DISTRACTION.

The key element of social control is the strategy of distraction that is to divert public attention from important issues and changes decided by political and economic elites, through the technique of flood or flooding continuous distractions and insignificant information. ‘Keep the public’s attention distracted away from the real social problems and captivated by issues of no importance. Keep the public busy, busy, busy, no time to think, back to the farm with the other animals (citing text “silent weapons for quiet wars”).’

2 – CREATE PROBLEMS AFTER OFFERING SOLUTIONS.

This method is also called ‘problem-reaction-solution.’ This creates a problem, a ‘situation’ due to cause some reaction in the public, so that it is the principal measure that they will want to accept. For example: let develop or intensify urban violence, or arrange bloody attacks, so that the public is focused on the principles of safety, laws and policies to the detriment of freedom. Or also create an economic crisis to accept the necessary evil of recession, loss of social rights and the dismantling of public services.

3 – STRATEGY GRADATION.

To make it accept an unacceptable extent, simply apply it gradually, a dropper at a time, in consecutive years. This is how radically new socioeconomic conditions (neoliberalism) were imposed during the 1980s and 1990s: the minimal state, privatization, precariousness, flexibility, mass unemployment, inability to pay decent wages, and many changes that cause a revolution would not have to be implemented all at once.

4 – THE STRATEGY OF DEFER.

Another way to make an unpopular decision acceptable is to present it as ‘painful and necessary’ in obtaining immediate public acceptance for a future application. It is easier to accept a future sacrifice than an immediate sacrifice.

5 – ADDRESSING THE PUBLIC AS YOUNGER CHILDREN.

Most of the advertising directed at the general public uses discourse, arguments, characters, and particularly children’s intonation, often close to their weaknesses, as if the viewer were a very young child or mentally impaired. The more you mislead the viewer, the more advertising tends to adopt an infantile tone.

6 – USING THE EMOTIONAL ASPECT MUCH MORE THAN A REFLECTION.

Making use of the emotional aspect is a classic technique to cause a short circuit on rational analysis, and finally to the critical sense of individuals. Moreover, the use of emotional register allows you to open the door to the unconscious to deploy graft or ideas, desires, fears and fears, compulsions, or induce behaviors…

7 – KEEP THE PUBLIC IN IGNORANCE AND MEDIOCRITY.

Make the public incapable of understanding technologies and methods in order to keep them controlled and in bondage. ‘The quality of education given the lower social classes should be as poor and mediocre as possible so that the gap of ignorance that lies between the lower classes and the upper social classes is and remains out of reach of the lower classes.’

8 – STIMULATES THE PUBLIC TO BE IN COMPLACENT MEDIOCRITY.

Promoting the public to think that fashion is the act of being stupid, vulgar and uneducated.

9 – STRENGTHENING REVOLT BY SELF-BLAME.

Make the individual believe that he alone is to blame for their own misfortune because of the failure of their intelligence, their abilities, or their efforts. Thus, instead of rebelling against the economic system, the individuals themselves are helpless and blame themselves, which leads to a depressive state with its effects being to inhibit its action.

My Comment: One can see how great the role of the Internet is in manipulating people. But this only accelerates the exit from the power of Pharaoh or egoism, because our desires and thoughts develop not by the media, but by the law of development, which leads necessarily to the purpose of creation.

The Departure Of 2014

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What are we leaving behind in 2014, and have we advanced during this past year towards building a more just society in Israel?

Answer: I think that good changes took place in Israel. People finally began to realize that we cannot expect positive changes from anyone but from ourselves.

If we begin to get closer to each other to better understand each other and unite, in this we will find the key to salvation, greater strength and greater justice.

After all, by uniting we can solve practically all problems, even up to the level of security problems. Everyone was talking about this for several months after the operation “Protective Edge.”

I feel that this year was something special. Even the people of Israel are beginning to say that unity is power.

And today, when the people of Israel are preparing for elections, I see that what prevails are not questions of security and finance, but questions of people’s unity. Although the politicians try to raise these questions in order to direct people at what is beneficial to them, instead the people ask, “What is happening to us, why are we today still in a fragmented state?”

Who Should We Elect?

Question: Which events of the past year could you define as the most joyful and the most terrible?

Answer: I judge a little differently than everyone else because I look at what is happening in terms of the system that manages this world. I think that it was a pretty good year. Peoples’ minds started to change radically. People began to understand that they cannot expect any favors from anywhere.

Question: Even from the politicians who are faced with new elections? How do you relate to them?

Answer: In no way. I know that it is not in their power to do something good for their people, and people rely on them because they do not understand that to be a politician means to be the greatest egoist. Indeed, our entire society is purely egoistical.

And those who reach such a height, by using others as stepping stones, are the greatest egoists. Therefore, we cannot expect anything from them. Maybe before the election, they will remember the people, but in principle, they think only about those who support them in order for them to remain in power longer. So, I do not see anything new in their flirting with the people before the election.

I see the results of the departing year not in terms of the politicians’ actions, but in how much we were able to explain to people what the wisdom of Kabbalah is, what it says, how it sees the future of humanity, and how through it, we can truly manage the world.

Indeed, politicians rule over nothing and no one. It was even said in the Torah that the hearts of the rulers of the world are in the hands of the Creator. Therefore, it is unreasonable to link our future with them.

But the people, to the extent of the connection between them, can really change their destiny. But it depends on their unity.

Anti-Semitism Forces Us to Listen

Question: During this year, how much did you manage to do for the unity of the people? What goals do you consider fulfilled and which are not?

Answer: This year we achieved good relations with Jewish organizations around the world. Since anti-Semitism put serious pressure on the Jews living abroad, many Jewish communities began to listen to us.

Previously, this had not happened. But due to increased anti-Semitism, they changed their attitude towards us because they saw how effectively we work with the masses.

In September of this year, we visited the American Jewish Congress. Prior to that, I appeared on several US television channels, had an interview with Larry King, the main subject of which was anti-Semitism. This is a very sore subject, especially for him.

It comes down to the role of Jews in the world: how they will be able to play a positive role in it and protect themselves from growing anti-Semitism.

Also this year, prestigious newspapers in England, France, Germany, Italy, the US, Canada, and other leading countries of the world published my article “Who Are You, People of Israel?”

This is also a breakthrough, after which it is much easier for us to speak to the press. Now, Time magazine is waiting for our next article and other publishing houses have offered space for our publications in their newspapers.

What Does the Well-being of the World Depend On?

Question: Why did the interest of the world’s key publications in your materials appear this year?

Answer: In principle, the world is in a state of deadlock and no one has a plan of action. We see that governments of all countries do not know what to do.

They are trying to find some reasonable path in the world and humanity’s existence. But neither philosophy nor science gives an answer. Everything humans are engaged in is in a strange state of crisis.

The crisis is a very interesting phenomenon. At first, it appeared to be more or less clear, but now it is not. The problem is that humanity has not risen above its egoism, and here a manifestation of the crisis occurs at different levels: in the collapse of the family, the falling birth rate, unemployment, and in the general decline in all spheres of human activity.

There are no happy countries. On the contrary, everything is disintegrating and gradually crumbling like a house of cards. The well-being of the world depends on how well we start to interact with each other and with nature. This is what the wisdom of Kabbalah tells us.
