We Don’t Want To Study, We Want To Enjoy!

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: There are many social networks today. How do you see their development? What will be the values, processes, rules, and feelings they offer?

Answer: I would start with a short review. The general tendency of the network is to allow people to connect.

This connection should become increasingly more developed so that everyone will feel life unlimited by time or space. It is about the psychological development of the user who understands and feels himself and the world more and more. It isn’t by chance that people came up with the name “Internet”— an internal network between us.

This network should be internal, not because of communication channels and endless other options of connecting, but thanks to a direct and open mutual connection. Thanks to that, we will know how to open ourselves to cooperation and to filling ourselves and others. This is called a bilateral mutual connection from me outwards and from the inside towards me.

If we clean the virtual space of the dirt within it, the only thing left will be many desires that are trying to find fulfillment and that eventually don’t receive anything. This emptiness should accumulate as such a general emptiness that it will push us to a more qualitative development. The next phase is to teach people how to connect correctly in order to fill themselves.

This approach is totally rejected at the moment, of course. I would try to interest Internet owners to develop new programs, especially in order to educate users. Working with psychologists and programmers, we have to develop special games that will subtly attract people to a new form of connection.

It isn’t about courses and not even about short clips. A person doesn’t want to study. He wants to see and to enjoy. People love to watch programs about delicious food hoping that it will fulfill them, like sex that fills them instantly. They see themselves as kings and rulers and they enjoy this adventure.

This means that they want to feel good immediately:”Connect me with the source of pleasure, with a simple direct channel without any preconditions.” This is the reason we have to develop  software that will make a person feel pleasure each time he changes himself, even a little.

News By Our Own Hands

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Today people use the Internet as another toy. How can a person advance to a qualitative, positive connection with other people and the network as a whole?

Answer: It is important to remember that in the connection between us a certain essence of life manifests itself. Eventually, due to social networks, we are able to create a kind of common internal warmth between us. Everyone is able to get it.

I will be able to sense this internal warmth as much as I can connect to this global network. If when in the system I hear, see, and feel less than before, it’s a sign that I have to lower myself before the system just like in front of the group.

The system will bring me up so that I will gradually rise from interacting with certain people to a higher level. And then I’ll be able to capture the essence of life, a feeling of warmth, connection, and participation, that something that today people feel during the roundtable sessions when the joint intelligence, feelings, and thoughts suddenly fill us.

Question: What will happen when I will enter a new Internet that hasn’t existed before?

Answer: Let’s say you watch news that is very superficial and boring. But you can learn more if you were to amicably connect to all through a certain filter. Then the system will reveal analysis to you at such a level where you will see that the whole story of what is happening. Each time you will rise to a higher level of communication, explanation, understanding, and encouragement.

Ultimately, your desire today is aimed at the pleasure of the whole system, otherwise why have you been included in it? You can’t just enjoy the fact that you are connected with millions of people. The main thing is a feeling of strength and quality of communication. The network is growing upward, but should be extended and widened. All of this should gradually be developed by experts.

The Net That Caught Every 12th Person In The World

Rising Above The Gaping Emptiness

Dr. Michael LaitmanDepression is one of the problems of modern humanity; it appeared at the turn of the 17th – 18th century in forms characteristic of the aristocracy of the day. People that led idle lives, didn’t know what to do with themselves, with what to occupy themselves. Based on this, they secretly began to raise the question about the meaning of life; on one hand, everything seemed to be there, and on the other hand, there was nothing.

To distract people from these thoughts and dampen the growing emptiness, society began to encourage romance, sex, and small wars. Then the development of various technologies began, and sports, travel, and the pursuit of fashion became popular. Everything was focused on keeping a person busy, giving him a sense of fulfillment instead of focusing on the true answer to the question “Why am I here?”

In parallel, print media, radio and television, and soon the Internet were developed, which further filled leisure time and all of a person’s resources. The Internet is filled with a vast variety of information that plugs the emptiness that arises within us.

But despite this, no matter in what a man is engaged, there is a greater and greater sense of inner awareness of worthlessness, insignificance, and the limits of his existence. The question of the meaning of life subconsciously gnaws at any person, be they more or less educated. This wormhole is inside of him, and he needs to do something with it.

This longing by the masses has caused a significant level of depression, and in order to address this, the masses are offered sedatives and other recreational drugs. Under the banner of struggling for a healthy humanity, government health agencies prohibit smoking, but instead they are slowly killing people with recreational drugs.

The by-product of ignoring the truth and not focusing on finding the right answer has led to everything being permitted. Humanity isn’t limited in any type of behavior, meaning sexually or drug related. Fulfill yourself with anything, just so the depression isn’t felt. This approach has led to the masses being willing to kill everyone and everything, including oneself, since he is no longer afraid of anything.

Searching for the meaning of life is most difficult because in order to find it a person must rise above oneself. A person can’t rise above oneself except in the case, by the will of fate he finds the wisdom of Kabbalah. Although it’s also a long path, at least one sees some kind of a perspective, not through feelings but through logic.

It turns out that depression is a problem for all humankind. The sooner humanity will move forward under the influence of the Internet and the overall development, more and more people will feel the insignificance of life, its limitations, and short term.

Subconsciously we feel that much greater potential is inherent in our lives than the one in existence now. For a person wasn’t created to live like an animal, meaning to be engaged in oneself, one’s offspring, and the arrangement of one’s own life to the grave. A person has some internal embryo that requires its own self-actualization and realization. On one hand, there is this embryo in each person, and on the other hand, this embryo can be suppressed.

Today, the most important industry of the world is the entertainment industry, which takes huge amounts of money, resources, etc. Even this industry has already been experiencing a setback and we are no longer satisfied by Hollywood and other mass entertainment venues.

A person has become impatient in the search for the meaning of life. A person cannot watch an online video clip that lasts more than five minutes. A year later, it will be shortened by a minute, and then by another minute. A question gnaws at him “Will I find something here? If not, then I won’t even want to watch.” After all, viewing long clips only increases the void, so it’s better not to watch them.

The problem is when a person opens a book or becomes engaged in some business, he is afraid to stop such activity due to an even greater disclosure of emptiness, insignificance, worthlessness, and lack of response to this gnawing question; therefore, he tries to preempt it. Therefore, people decrease their Internet discussions and talks over the mobile phone, limiting them to short phrases like ‘See you tomorrow! Later!” as if they want to leave something for the future. And what do they have tomorrow? The same emptiness that is today, but it seems better to break in the middle of a conversation, as though there was something to talk about afterward.

A person has to feel that there is a future! And there is no future! Somehow today we still can see it. Perhaps it looks ghostly and foggy, but we can still lie to ourselves about it. But day after day this feeling passes by, and in the hands of humanity, there is nothing that can plug this void.

No matter what, this emptiness remains and becomes more gaping, black, and grim. So, the younger generation quietly parts with this life, since it is much easier to forget everything while under the influence of drugs and to leave quietly rather than carrying this darkness internally.

We are faced with a huge problem that we lack the desire and ability to solve. Only Kabbalah gives an answer to this problem. However, until people don’t become completely disappointed, they won’t hear us out.  We must be ready to present them with the Kabbalistic wisdom in a way they can understand. It should become clear that only we have the answer, and the answer is only to reach the infinite, eternal, perfect existence, which is not concentrated in our body, but among us, in the sense of our own “I.”

My body, the animal substance, dies after some time; however, the human being in me is forever. So I need to separate the “I” from what I now consider myself, pull it out, isolate it from my body, and start raising, nurturing, and shaping it. This is the human being in me that I must realize.

Question: If a person is on this path, will his depression fade?

Answer: Yes, but other problems will certainly start to appear because a person has to develop himself. However, they all will end up breaking away from their animal. After rising above the body, the person will remain there for eternity and in perfection. The wisdom of Kabbalah provides a real answer that is realized by ourselves in our world and inside us. Here we do not depend on anyone and no one can restrict us! This is our freewill. To realize this we don’t need any special tools; everything is in our hands.

Virtual Ping Pong

laitman_958Question: Research shows that Israeli youngsters spend up to four hours a day on the Internet, and according to these indicators, Israel is placed as one of the first in the world. In what way does this cyberspace pull so strongly?

Answer: The main reason for all changes that take place in the society is our inner desire. In the beginning it finds pleasure from running around the Internet and social networks, and afterwards begins to separate between valuable things and unnecessary things.

It is the same with TV. When there were only two channels, everyone watched only them. Today there are hundreds of programs but only a few spend time with them. But now people sit for hours on the Internet. I am sure that this also will pass. In another few years the youth of that day will not find anything attractive in spending time in this way.

In the end, why do they connect to the Internet for so many hours? For a few “likes”? No. The youngsters are attracted to the feeling of a permanent connection, like ping pong. Let’s think of how to correctly take advantage of this desire in order to bring them to a new communication, a more internal one.

To do so you have to develop new programs and create these Internet fields where young people will have an emotional link between themselves. And this needs also to be in the physical world, not just in the virtual one. We need to organize all kinds of festivals that will take place in those places where people can connect freely between themselves, i.e., roundtables, discussions, and performances. We need to constantly create the conditions for people for connecting and unity, filling both time and space.

Question: On the one hand, the youth are in social networks. On the other hand, it is very hard for them to connect between themselves.

Answer: Correct. The media distances people. It is easier for me to talk on the phone than to have “face-to-face” conversations. I feel safe behind the screen that’s between us. As a result of this, the gap between me and the outside world is growing. But there is no bad without good: The recognition and disclosure of evil has to take place. And I truly hope that it will happen quickly.

“Tamagotchi” – The Game Of The Future?

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: One of the common phenomena among youth is the constant updating of their status in social networks. The more often I post my pictures, the more friends I have. These actions are seemingly an expression of a tendency to connect, but in fact, it is a process for its own sake.

Answer: Since a desire for connection has been awakened in people, they feel an attraction to communications media. In the meantime, this process is in a transitory phase because they don’t know how to utilize these tools correctly. Their desire has not been examined enough, is not yet ripe, and communications media are still not compatible with the right needs and demands that are being discovered.

When we begin to mold a connection between us like a virtual “Tamagotchi” into which everyone contributes his concern, warmth, and beauty, then we will feel our lives are found precisely there within this connection. Our bodies are here, and my consciousness, my true self, is there.

Comment: The Tamagotchi toy demands my concern, but doesn’t give anything back in return.

Answer: Clearly, plastic remains plastic. Whereas a human level exists above me and is greater than I am. From that I receive a million times more than I invest. Moreover, I don’t stay in my place, but with my soul, I am found there, in connection with everyone. And we are not just many, but together we become something that melts and becomes one body.

From many parts, thanks to the warmth between them, one body is created. And everyone receives the awareness, understanding, feeling, and warmth of everyone. The new level of existence of humanity is like this. And I hope that communications media will help us attain it as quickly as possible.

The End Of The World, When There Is No Internet

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What is “good publicity”? How is this art expressed practically? What feeling should it awaken so that society moves forward beyond the level where it is now?

Answer: Advertising and communication tools in general should be transformed into the engine leading to the connection between us all. As per the title “means of communication,” they should be at the center of society, creating connection between us. In them, humanity is able to attain satisfaction, contentment, and happiness.

Look what happens during a small shutdown of an Internet network. People are literally shocked! They understood what it means to be disconnected. Lack of information seems to them as a disaster and they don’t know how to live. Nothing like this happened in the past.

So far, we are linked artificially, without feelings. This is not yet a connection between people, but for the time being, is only transmission of shortened, material, primitive information. But it is obvious that the need for new relations is becoming intensified in us.

If mobile communications, the Internet, and social networks can help us feel the pleasure of unity, they will cause acceleration in the development of means of communication. From these means, we will proceed to the building of a special global system in which everyone can communicate, seemingly in an imaginary world.

This world is not imaginary, but virtual, in which we are disconnected from our bodies and live in a new collective mind and heart. And it is not a utopia. With a great desire, this process may take a few years.

We are talking about a very serious new stage which is communication without borders, through feelings and emotions and with people putting themselves above physical life. Here they do not care about drugs, terror, or sedatives, are not immersed in a depression, nor closed off in a separate room. They do not even feel together, because the concept of together disappears, and is the concept of “one” and one is not the sum of individual parts.

Welcoming The Recognition Of Evil

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from Vzglyad (Look)): “The Internet as a tool and the environment creates a special type of modern person and affects his attitude. The Internet as a medium has an inherent matrix of values. People do not know this, but getting into this matrix, they automatically begin to act accordingly to its principles.

“The engine of change is the information sphere, media and various forms of social connections. Some of them are linked to transnational supervising institutions that use the network as professional players. A mass of ordinary participants is involved in the process altruistically and proactively.

“The ruling classes and population, who are involved in the maelstrom of the globalization change, have not yet realized that this world paradigm is bringing disasters to the world. Cyber operations and information-psychological aggression are only elements of the ideological confrontation, in which the targets are not only countries but also civilizations.

“The dominance of the ‘only true’ formula creates an effect of the ‘critical mass of lies in space’ that weakens the ability to distinguish ‘yours’ from ‘someone else’s.’

“In addition, the ‘universal dogma’ is only partially recognized as an invasion in one’s own world (for example, the idea of gay marriage in Orthodox and Muslim countries), while other elements of the same dogma are met with a positive response because they match the values (freedom of expression, equality, health, comfort).

“The most important thing is that internetization and networks change not only consumer stereotypes, but also the very course of formation and development of people.

“Network structures should replace large national states that unite people by great meaning – people should be divided into the maximum number of small groups according to a variety of criteria.

“It is necessary that people define themselves not as part of a larger whole, but as a resident of his district – he is given a sense of a small community. At the same time, he may feel some belonging to something planetary, be it ecology or the struggle for human rights. But this scheme has no place for self-determination in the national state.

“It is difficult to find self-determination in the empire; it requires large, not ‘universal,’ but one’s own civilizational meanings. A small group can unite on the basis of at least short-term interests.”

My Comment: As in all human actions, networks operate to the detriment of the human being, but by that they reveal our egoism, our nature as absolute evil, from which it is necessary to rid ourselves. Therefore, Kabbalah welcomes everything that accelerates the process of recognition of evil and brings us to the correction of evil into good. This action can be performed only by using the science of Kabbalah.

The Sunset Of The Era Of Print

Dr. Michael LaitmanBaal HaSulam, “The Nation”: Hence, we have taken upon ourselves the publication of this paper, to stand guard and warn of the trouble, and explain it to the public until all the segregating elements will be silenced.

Question: It is no secret that in our day publications are undergoing a crisis. Will newspapers survive in the future?

Answer: It is difficult to say how much longer they will last considering the strength of electronic formats. Today a person essentially doesn’t need a newspaper or a book, he sees everything on a computer screen conveniently and comfortably where one can adjust the font and style of the text.

Today it is possible to take electronic devices everywhere, like a newspaper. And tomorrow we will really be able to open an article and keyboard in the air in front of us, in the form of a hologram generated from some small device the size of a wristwatch.

So I don’t see a future for the printed materials, not for a newspapers or books, besides our books, even though most of them will be transferred to a screen format.

Humanity is creating electronic instruments according to its desire, and this is becoming more sophisticated all the time. So I suppose that there won’t be a return to the era of print.

Immunity To Facebook

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from Marketwatch): “Facebook could end up shedding a big chunk of its 1.2 billion users in three years, says a Princeton University study that cited ‘disease-like dynamics’ in the social network’s upcoming doom.

“Facebook, they suggest, is an idea, a fad that, like an illness, can spread — and then eventually fade away. They cited the rise and fall of MySpace.

“‘Ideas, like diseases, have been shown to spread infectiously between people before eventually dying out,’ they write. …

“‘If the disease model holds it suggests that Facebook will need to evolve/mutate in order to begin another curve or it will die out. It has to overcome the immunization cycle.”

My Comment: By its plan, nature drives us to the ultimate goal, to the form of unity, to similarity to it. Only in this way, future integral means of communication will survive and prosper.
