“The greatest challenge to the prospects for the moral progress of humanity in the twentieth century was the challenge of fascism. Kabbalah also states that there are only two paths of human evolution: the path of suffering—fascist regimes, with a rapid coming of the third and fourth world thermonuclear wars—or the path of gradual conscious re-education (through Integral Education and Upbringing) of the entire humanity.

Question: As far as I understand, the process itself of building a new combination between egoism and altruism will be very difficult for all people individually.

Answer: It could be very easy because this is not personal work but essentially group work. This method is applicable in the correct organization of an educational learning process.

Question: What happens with the desires for wealth, power, and knowledge that have always constituted the motivational force of the ego?

Answer: Everything that we approach today, without the choice of the authorities who want to calm people down through a “daily ration” necessary for existence, is particularly close to what the wisdom of Kabbalah or Integral Education is saying.

In other words, we must be satisfied with a normal and reasonable material existence. Everyone must have his own dwelling, room or corner where he will feel comfortable, the essential food, shoes, clothing, and all the rest.

And all the rest of the fulfillments and development he will get only through learning in the system of Integral Education. For him there will no longer be the explosions of the former needs. On the contrary, the moment that the person begins to develop integrally, he will understand that he can attain a reasonable material existence, give a normal education to his children, and live comfortably without fear of going outside; he will get inner fulfillment.

Besides inner fulfillment, we must give our body what is required for its normal functioning: healthy nourishment, clean air, restful sleep, and so forth. We must relate to the physical body like a pet that lives with us, wash it, let it sleep, feed it, and no more.

During all the rest of the time, we develop the person within the framework of Integral Education. We are involved with this all day: courses, lectures, study, games, and personal development. We have many possibilities for developing this system together with the all the others. The entire world is before us.

And the main thing is that in accordance with this we feel more and more fulfillments and discoveries, as if we are discovering new worlds for ourselves every day! We don’t need to wait for payday once a year to travel somewhere for a week because we feel fulfilled day to day, every hour.

Question: Today so many books and pamphlets have been written on the subject of Integral Education. We certainly see that the time has come to create a textbook about the integrality of the world and ways of coming out of the crisis.

Books give a general idea about the state of society, about modern man, and humanity passing through a crisis. What’s good about a textbook, however, is that it systematizes all the material that has already been written, expressed, thought through, and applied in practice.

Answer: In my opinion, the first part of the textbook must be dedicated to the present state of humanity, which it reached as a result of its development. We are entering a new, unknown, completely chaotic, and even frightening period. We feel our future as “terra incognita” (unknown territory).

Very few people still don’t feel that humanity is in a blind alley. Someone perceives this in a more aware and conscious way, someone else feels it on the level of intuitive concern, uncertainty about the future. Today these moods penetrate all of humanity since both in society and in nature something is happening that forces even the most habitual skeptics and optimists to ask the question: “Why? And what will happen next?”

I am not a prophet in any way, but if previously the predictions of the wisdom of Kabbalah were realized over the course of 20 years, today, the things we are talking about will be realized within 3-4 years. Time is getting shorter.

Therefore, our textbook is very important because it should direct a person towards the correct understanding of the future and the strategy of life that he must choose in this complex and completely incomprehensible state of “chaos.”

We will try to make this textbook easy and accessible to everyone because even for the most highly educated people who belong to the spiritual or scientific elite, everything that we say and write is often new and unexpected. And while we comprehend these things in a general way, as a complete picture, in the meantime, for most people this is still some fragmentary information that they can agree with, but not so in regards to the entire picture. Therefore it’s up to us to describe everything on an accessible and comfortable level.

Question: In the past, at the time of the transition from one system to another, did the ego also require altruism or not?

Answer: Egoism nourishes itself by always conquering something. It is like a cancerous tumor that gradually grows while not yet being apparent. And now it is grown to the last stage and is beginning to devour itself.

Until the ‘80s, all of the systems that we constructed served to extend and expand a particular goal. We flew into space, to the stars; we went deep into the bowels of the earth; we built great cities, and we created new technologies. We developed under the influence of one and only one force, and we thought that this would continue forever.

If we were to continue to develop further in this way, we would advance ourselves only externally and not internally. Human development was done in a mechanical, technological manner: Instead of two hands, I would have had twenty; instead of seeing for a distance of two kilometers, I would have seen two hundred thousand kilometers ahead.

In this case, the human became an appendage of a machine, an appendage of a computer. So today the egoistic system begins to work more and more against him. The human has become unnecessary to it.

We have grown to such a state where we must discover the meaning of our existence. Now, for many people, in particular among the youth, the reason for living, the aspiration for some kind of goal, has disappeared. “What is there to strive for? I exist comfortably, I don’t need children, a family, or serious work; what will this give me? It is better if I sit somewhere with friends, have fun. What else is there to live for; what is the reason for living? I will play a little and die, like everyone”.

Therefore the question now is, either to give a person a motivation for living, or drugs. And here Kabbalah or the method of integral education show people a completely different way: to get from nature a second anti-egoistic power. It is precisely this power that created and developed the ego so that we would consciously get it from nature and could mutually manage the two forces of our development.

One of them can inspire us forward with good, through the goal that shines from afar. And the second is like a developmental steamroller that chases me, and I flee from it like that poor coyote in the cartoons.

Question: But even the altruistic force requires egoism, at least in this stage?

Answer: Yes, for this, the ego develops. And now it shows that if we don’t balance it through the altruistic force, it will devour us, like a cancerous tumor in the human body that devours the body and in the end kills itself.

What does a cancerous tumor mean? This is a disrupted program of the development of the body, of the functioning of its cells, where they begin to proliferate beyond their contained space and have an opposite effect.

In principle, every cell has the possibility of cancerous development, but they are always found in harmony between them, in a relative balance between positive and negative forces. But when one of them becomes greater, then another either disappears or there is a disruption in the polarity between them, and in this imbalance destructive development appears.

It is the same thing in society as well. We should begin quickly, through a second positive force, to balance the entire human society that has become a cancerous tumor. And this is the remedy for its recovery.

Unfortunately, at the time of healing cancer, we are satisfied with suppressing the egoistic development of the cells through various kinds of short radiation, thereby killing them. This is not a cure. It is not necessary to kill human society or to do anything else with it. You just need to add the second developmental force to it.

Question: Integral education makes our children more positive and kind. But, on the other hand, the science of learning of our world, in spite of this, is based upon egoistic fulfillment. Every child would like know something better than his classmates do. There is a certain duality. Doesn’t this influence the process of learning in a bad way? Won’t the child loss the intention and the taste for the science of learning of our world?

Answer: Egoistic characteristics were given to us so that we would use them correctly. Here competition is required. Envy, this is a person’s best characteristic. Without it he would not advance. We would have remained living in the trees or in caves; we wouldn’t have come out from there if not for envy and competition.

Therefore it is forbidden to take this from the children in any way, but rather only to direct them correctly so that both competition and envy would be for the purpose of bestowal: Who among us does something much more and much better for a friend, for the group, and so forth.

Then a person really blossoms, everyone encourages him, he does great work both for himself and for others, brings everyone great benefit. But these awakenings in people should not be killed in any way, especially in children. Only try to change them gradually, to transform but not reduce them.

Question: Let’s suppose that people see that the society around them has a negative influence on them, as pressuring them, and at any moment it is able to negatively change their lives. How can they acquire strength to resist this society?

Answer: We offer them the altruistic strength that is completely opposed to the egoistic power. It is not meant to destroy it but to balance it. Today everyone is shouting: “We need to develop onward and to continue to produce a consumer society! To increase productivity each quarter! To create more jobs! Grow, grow, grow!”

Growth is no longer possible! Not in any way. They are just shouting because they don’t see another solution. The politicians say this because they need to maintain their positions in the government. The economists are silent because they don’t have anything to say.

And we offer people the integral system that gives a person the second power of the universe, of the world, of nature: the force of mutual cooperation. It is specifically this force that is the living force of all creation. Because the energy that turns the atoms, molecules, and all the huge galaxies is not just the egoistic force, but within it exists a second force: the force of unity. And we need to pull it out from the inside.

If we didn’t have the force of bestowal and love, then we wouldn’t be born, we wouldn’t develop, we wouldn’t do anything! We have these urges, but at the most minimal, instinctive level in order for life to exist. We understand that we need some communication between us, but now nature is demanding the next level of unity, the conscious one!

The further we advance towards the spiritual world and gain experience, the weaker we feel. We discover that we are not capable of anything. Why is it said that you need to “Strengthen yourselves, and He will give your heart, all who hope to the Lord?”

How is it possible if, on the contrary, a person reveals his utter helplessness? He sees he is not capable in any action to cope with himself, he cannot overcome any disturbance. If he really advances, then as a result he reveals that he is completely made of egoism, and makes his calculations only on this basis, each moment choosing something more profitable. But he never makes calculations “outside,” relying on the Creator, for the sake of bestowal. He is just incapable of this.

In the end, we begin to realize that if it is possible to make any changes, it is only through the environment. We have freedom of choice only in choosing an increasingly stronger environment every time, one that will affect us more powerfully, more precisely, will influence us in a more focused way, and will push, pull, and organize us more correctly, orienting us towards the goal. The power with which the environment pushes us forward is also increasing as well as is the accuracy of direction. That is, the environment is improving both quantitatively and qualitatively.

Baal HaSulam, Shamati #225 “Raising Oneself”: One cannot raise oneself above one’s circle. Hence, one must suck from one’s environment. And one has no other counsel, except through much work, and Torah—that is, to draw the Light that Reforms, which will correct the evil inclination. This is possible to realize only through the environment.

Therefore, the condition for receiving the Torah is a person’s readiness for unity. That is, he has already realized this evil and understood that he will not be able to do anything without connection. All his hope, his future, his life, are in this circle that he builds around himself.

That is why we need to understand that due to dissemination, we connect a huge, strong, massive circle to ourselves. You can be a hero in quality and in quantity. The strength of our group is in its quality, and that is why we can establish connection with the Creator through it, through the top of the pyramid. We specialize in this, different from everyone else for whom this connection is obscure and will never become clear.

But if we connect ourselves to the Creator, “relying on Him” from our little circle, then “He will give your heart courage,” due to the large circles. This requires also a “hero in quantity,” that is wide dissemination that will push us forward.

We are not able to advance by ourselves but only due to the large circle surrounding us which will expand more and more. Similarly, as a person has to be inside this circle, the environment, the group, the group is inside a wider circle. This is the environment that we need to build for ourselves: circle after circle.

To the extent that we take care of the public, they will push us as children who oblige their parents to advance in life, to arrange it. Thus, the circles that we form due to our wide dissemination of integral education will push us forward.

Thus, the hero in quality and the hero in quantity unite. We are directed towards the Creator, “All ye that hope in the Lord.” And “He shall strengthen your heart” with the help of the wide external circle. Let’s hope that we will be able to realize both of these conditions—both “heroes.”

The method of integral education is a tool that no politician or government possesses. It allows every person to change his life, society, and life of the world since every component in this system affects all the others.

Everything begins from the environment of an ordinary person. He should try to change himself despite the fact that he resists it and curses everything from morning till night, swearing and hating everyone, thinking that everyone uses him, it doesn’t matter!

He won’t change the world. Enough chewing and spitting it out all the time; what’s the use? This isn’t wise. Let’s change ourselves! Let’s see what it will lead to.

If we create a healthy area in some part of the integral system that suddenly begins to function correctly, it will reflect on the whole body. We will see that the government, our neighbors, and people who live on the other side of the world will begin to think differently since we have healed part of the system.

Question: But in a sick body, we can’t create a separate healthy part.

Answer: Imagine that it is possible. How does one get well? It isn’t that the whole body is suddenly healed. First one part doesn’t hurt, and then another; the systems begin to balance one another and to work one for the sake of the other.

You wish to say that if something happens in the integral system, it doesn’t affect that specific part but rather the whole system. This is true, you are absolutely right. But the current integral system is bad and I create a good integral system within it without creating a partition between the two, and so it begins to work.

We spur on a totally different force in our small system that doesn’t exist in our system; the force of the connection between us. By ascending above the egoistic system we begin to cultivate the altruistic force in us. This is because the altruistic force is inside the egoistic force and we humans have to bring it out by ourselves and begin to implement and manage it.

What’s more, the external system cannot affect us since we ascend above it. This is called “faith above reason,” or “love and bestowal above hate.” When we unite, the world around us doesn’t affect us since this whole world is made of egoistic vectors that operate on one plane, while we ascend above them and work on a totally different level.

Question: How is the desired picture of the future reflected in the textbook of integral education? Where is humanity headed?

Answer: The desired future of humanity is to learn systemic balance from nature.

Taking the entirety of nature as a standard, we need to make human nature integral like this, as it is in the world that surrounds us, for we are the most developed inner part of nature but egoistically developed, and this says that it is very bad. No matter what we do, we only destroy the space surrounding us. Therefore, if we begin to learn the integral laws of nature and want to live in harmony with it, this will be the best solution for our problem.

An integral society must live on two levels because a person consists of two parts: the physical body and the spirit that pulls him forward. This spirit now possesses an egoistic form. How can we balance it?

Our body must get all that it requires from nature in order to function normally, whereas the spirit—that is, our desires and yearnings—must be balanced because now they are egoistic. For this, we must place the good of society above our own good and feel ourselves as an integral component of this entire system.

We must formulate the integral method in an easy form from beginning to end. In fact, there is nothing complicated or complex about it. It speaks about the inner psychological structure of a person and about how he adapts himself to this world and uses it to change himself and enter into harmony with the environment that surrounds him.

A complex book would confuse a person. Therefore, it is necessary to formulate the material as simply as possible, for even to the greatest minds, these ideas are very complex. I say this from experience in meeting with many well-known people.

However, we are not writing a textbook for the common people. It is designed for the regular modern person who still does not understand what is happening to him even if is a genius.

The idea is that it is very difficult to destroy stereotypes. Therefore, we suggest a person close his eyes and throw himself into the group, like from a diving board into a pool, and only then will he begin to interact mutually with the group, without any preconditions, rejecting all of his stereotypes, and enter there like a small and naked person. He will begin to feel that there is an additional power in nature that we haven’t used. This is the power of society, the power of unity, the power of mutual guarantee.

If we begin to use it, our egos will transform from the evil inclination to the good inclination. If we implement the ego in the right way, we can correct it. To do this, it grew even more seventy years ago, and now it is beginning to outgrow itself, to digest itself like a cancer in the human body. If we begin to manage it in the right way, we will heal it. We have no other choice. Otherwise we will die.
