Will The President And The Cleaning Lady Understand Each Other?

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Is it possible to gather representatives of different social classes together at the roundtables? Wouldn’t they reject each other because they are not equal?

Answer: At the roundtable people need to feel equal. We are not equal by nature, but it does not depend on us, turn to the Creator who created us this way. In all other aspects, we are equal. We came here and no one should feel uninvited, disadvantaged, or flawed.

So I always insist that people have absolutely equal initial conditions, and the only thing that has to be corrected between them is for everyone to rise above his own egoism to the state of a common platform. I believe that at least in the first stage, when we are still creating roundtables, we need to make them as homogeneous as possible.

If we do not form them according to a qualification of  properties or on any other basis, you may have problems. After all, very different people can hardly understand each other, so there should be at least some preliminary connection between them.

Therefore, it’s desirable to select people that are similar to each other. Then it will be easier for them to connect. People carry with them the various social conventions that they have accumulated throughout their lives. During life, people develop a whole conceptual framework, and each one has lived in such different conditions that people can hardly understand each other.

I am in favor of gathering equal people at roundtables. A manager, his deputy, an employee, and a cleaner cannot sit at the same table and be free in discussion. We need to take into account what people come to the table with. I do not think that in the real world we can connect such opposite people as the president and the cleaning lady, and I would not like to attempt these experiments; this would be a lack of understanding for the cleaning lady and humiliation for the president.

Understanding and unity is possible only if people have already risen to the level at which they equally feel the need for each other and they complement each other fully. Our task is to bring them to this level. After they experience completely different values that they will draw from the common roundtable, then it is a different matter. But this should come.

The World From A New Perspective

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: You say that people who create integral groups begin feeling themselves as unique. How is this expressed?

Answer: The uniqueness is that such people begin looking at the world through different eyes. First of all, they see that connection among people is truly possible; the main thing is to adjust it correctly, to understand that all of us are different by nature. There is no coercion; on the contrary, we only rise above our initial egoistic data and connect with each other with good mutual relationships above the egoistic foundations.

We are all egoists; inside we are all rigid, coarse, and “dark.” But we rise above the ego, understand that we are like this by nature, and we want to create an altruistic platform above that.

Through its formation, we begin to feel that nature (not our personal egoistic nature, but nature in general) is created specifically according to the integral principle. We begin to see that this is where humanity’s problem is. In other words, humanity now starts feeling the difference between its egoistic nature and the higher nature that is revealed to it. This lack of balance and harmony gives us a feeling of a “multi-crisis.”

“Rich People Just Care Less”

Dr. Michael LaitmanOpinion (Daniel Goleman, a psychologist, author of Emotional Intelligence and Focus: The Hidden Driver of Excellence): “A growing body of recent research shows that people with the most social power pay scant attention to those with little such power. This tuning out has been observed, for instance, with strangers in a mere five-minute get-acquainted session, where the more powerful person shows fewer signals of paying attention, like nodding or laughing. Higher-status people are also more likely to express disregard, through facial expressions, and are more likely to take over the conversation and interrupt or look past the other speaker. …

“Of course, in any society, social power is relative; any of us may be higher or lower in a given interaction, and the research shows the effect still prevails. Though the more powerful pay less attention to us than we do to them, in other situations we are relatively higher on the totem pole of status — and we, too, tend to pay less attention to those a rung or two down. …

“Mr. Keltner [a professor of psychology at Berkeley] suggests that, in general, we focus the most on those we value most. While the wealthy can hire help, those with few material assets are more likely to value their social assets: like the neighbor who will keep an eye on your child from the time she gets home from school until the time you get home from work. The financial difference ends up creating a behavioral difference. Poor people are better attuned to interpersonal relations — with those of the same strata, and the more powerful — than the rich are, because they have to be.”

My Comment: The conclusion is that the dissemination of integral education should be started with the “lower” levels of society. We have to “go to the people” to demonstrate our participation and really learn and understand the needs of the masses. Do not rely on the elite; by virtue of their position, they will not understand the people, no matter how hard we try. The crisis can be eliminated only be building authority from those who empathize with people, meaning from those who are corrected; otherwise, anyone who has reached power, will also neglect the public.

An Apparatus For Solving The Problems Of Life

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Suppose that people are gathered around a roundtable in order to discuss business problems and we suggest that they also speak about other subjects: about relationships between couples, health, and children’s education. Is it correct to widen the range of issues?

Answer: It is desirable to begin from something distant; perhaps not business because there could be conflicting interests. I would move the conversation towards some other subject that is more general, civil, simple, collectively human, and with this, show people how it is possible to have a discussion and reach a common denominator.

For example, it is possible to take the subject of relationships between couples, the education of children, relationships with parents—a subject that affects all people.

Question: In groups like these an interesting dynamic is seen. At first people discuss some question, for example a business topic, and when they solve it, then everyone relaxes and they begin to enjoy being together. But this pleasure doesn’t last. If we don’t introduce some kind of special mechanism, then people cool down rapidly. What else could stimulate the process?

Answer: We must add more “fuel to the fire,” new subjects, so they will see that the roundtable is a device for solving the problems of life.

If people connect according to the principles that we establish, where each one around the circle completes the other without opposing the others in any way, understanding that the others also have the right to a personal opinion and that they supplement each other, then it is simply necessary to show them that in a circle like this, basic human problems can be solved.

The Suicide Of Egoism

Dr. Michael LaitmanOpinion (Geoff Mulgan, economist, author of The Locust and the Bee: Predators and Creators in Capitalism’s Future): “The economic crisis was a dramatic reminder that capitalism can both produce and destroy, but the crisis also presents an historic opportunity to choose a radically different future for capitalism, one that maximizes its creative power and minimizes its destructive force. …

“Capitalism at its best rewards the creators and makers who create valuable things for others, like imaginative technologies and good food, cars and drugs: the human equivalents of industrious bees. By harnessing their energy capitalism can make everyone better off, more than any other economic system in human history. But capitalism also rewards takers and predators, the people and firms who extract value from others without contributing much in return. Predation is part of the everyday life of capitalism, in sectors as mainstream as pharmaceuticals, software and oil, where people’s money, their data, their time, and their attention are routinely taken in fundamentally asymmetrical exchanges. …

“So what is to be done? The answers can’t be found in endless summits trying to wish the pre-2007 economy back into existence, or in yet more doses of stimulus or austerity. Instead we need to map out more of what the future economy will, could and should look like. … I also look at what needs to be happen in welfare and consumption, and radical options for the taxation of wealth that would help to reduce the chronic waste in consumption amongst the top 1%.”

My Comment: Nostalgia is the lot of the elderly who have no future, ideas, and understanding of how to live further. We need to change not the system, but the human being. Many are already thinking in this direction, although they cannot find the means of change. It is possible to change a person, but only by the influence from Above, by the force that is manifested in our correct unity. This is what the method of integral education teaches.

A Fellowship Of Good Will

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: People who have passed through a series of roundtables, as a rule, don’t want to disperse, they become sympathetic to each other. Therefore, it is necessary to help them to create a fellowship with common goals. What is this fellowship?

Answer: People who create integral fellowships suddenly begin to feel that someone understands them, that they can find a common language between them, and even though the point of view of one is opposed to the opinion of another, he is ready to cooperate with the rest, ready to accept them, this becomes their goodwill. This feeling that is created as a result of communication like this gives a person a feeling of a new world, a new understanding, new sense of peace, and cooperation, everything that is so lacking today with people.

Therefore, they don’t want to part, and this is felt very strongly. When we expand the range of issues discussed, they are ready to talk about other subjects and find a wider and wider platform for interconnections.

They begin to be attracted to each other, begin to feel that they are found in one bundle, like mountain climbers or divers, so much so that a feeling of belonging to one shared whole takes hold of them.

Worldview Or Hobby

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Can people’s professions or hobbies become formal designations for integral education platforms?

Answer: This depends upon with what we want to approach people. As a rule, people normally converge on some kind of factor or personal characteristic, for example, bicyclists, ice skaters, those who love to dance, and so forth. This , of course, is no longer a “roundtable.”

The characteristic of a roundtable is that during the course of a discussion about all kinds of subjects (let’s say, the education of children, cooperation among married couples, interaction in society), common knowledge is created between people, a shared global view about the world, about life. There may be people who work in the same company and want to find a common language, which is difficult to do these days. In other words, an integral connection is created when people approach each other on the basis of a worldview and not according to areas of interest or hobbies.

Sustainable Development Built On Partnership

Dr. Michael LaitmanOpinion: (Report by Prof. Y. Yakovets, Academician of Russian Academy of Natural Sciences at the UN General Assembly): “In the end of the 20th century, mankind entered a lasting period of unstable development and global crises (energo-ecological, demographic, technological, geopolitical, and socio-cultural). All components of the present civilization seem to require thorough innovative updating. Why? It is because the world civilization had run its historical course and needs to be replaced with a progressive society of higher consciousness-integral world civilization.

“So far, the predominant strategy is adapting the outgrown system to the new setting and prolonging its agony and intensifying global conflicts thereby. Yet, it is essential, after having defined the contours of future society, to develop and implement a strategy designated to form an integral circuit of civilization, the basis for which is emerging before our eyes—and this will relieve the travails of transitioning to a new phase in the development of our civilization.

“An international team of scientists supports the second position: they provide theoretical ground and propose practical steps toward implementation of strategic breakthrough to the new society. It derives from acknowledging the fact that civilization is undergoing a revolutionary change—a lengthy, agonizing transition from being industrial to becoming an integral and global one.

“The long-term strategic mission is to hasten and facilitate this transition, by equipping progressively thinking forces with clear understanding of where we are going and why and reliable methods for reaching the goals.

“Secondly, the strategy has to ensure indigenously developed, balanced transformation in all facets of society’s life, all six major genotype components of civilization: natural and environmental, demographic, technological, economic, geopolitical, and socio-cultural—by reaching greater sustainability and predictability in dynamic society.

“Thirdly, the primary driving role in implementing the long-term strategic transformation of human society is assigned to the partnership of 12 local civilizations of the fifth generation-the central figures on the 21st century’s geo-economic and geopolitical stage.

“Fourthly, specific institutions, mechanisms, and global civilizations partnership programs have been proposed in order to implement the strategy.”

My Comment: There is a clearly visible problem: Scientists do not care as long as those in power can ensure their safe future. Where scientists are concerned, they don’t share a single view and even less so do they understand the cause and the purpose of crisis, and therefore, they have no plan of action. They offer a lot of buzzwords, nothing more.

This will continue until the wisdom of Kabbalah receives their acknowledgement and ties them together in a unified understanding of the goal and the means. And then, possibly by cooperative effort, directly influencing authorities and the general public via the Internet, we can raise public opinion so that the “rulers” would start to seriously consider transforming society, that is, by forming media designed to nurture society toward the new integral world civilization.

Basically, this is where Kabbalists come in since it is they who must exert every effort in revealing the method of correction of man and the new integral civilization.

The Light Will Convince The Most Stubborn Polemicist

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe workshops and roundtable discussions are meant for a person to discover that in the connection between us there is a certain click, a certain contact, and a new mind and feeling. This already serves as the structure of the future man since man is made up of a mind and feelings and this is what makes him superior to animals.

In the connection between us we create the image of the future man that has no corporeal, physiological body but only a mind and feelings. This is the raspberry sphere that we want to establish between us. The workshop (the questions and the whole process) has to be planned this way so that eventually its participants will feel that the connection between us includes some power that is above us.

Question: And what if, as a result of the moderator’s efforts, someone says that he doesn’t believe it is possible to connect and that everyone has to take care of himself only?

Answer: He is absolutely right! In our world there is no such power that can connect us. Not only is 99% of our world bad and egoistic, but the whole 100% is. We only camouflage our ego and it is only because of that we don’t devour one another. If, however, our ego revealed its true form, the way it actually is, and I were hungry, I would attack you and devour you just the way you are. We would behave exactly like predators that eat one another.

Our ego can do anything and is ready to devour everyone, including our own children. Fortunately, it doesn’t reveal its true form the way it actually is, and we can somehow, by different agreements among us, restrain it that way and somehow exist in this world.

So the contradictory claims of those who have doubts are certainly legitimate. But we know that only the Upper Light can correct and connect us and we cannot do so ourselves by our own powers. So we need only to be the passage for the Light.

“Global Trade Is Likely To Remain Sluggish For Many Years”

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from Zawya): “Global trade is likely to remain sluggish for many years, and emerging economies that have depended on exports to fuel their transformation will have to find new sources of growth, says a UN report.” (Source: inagist)

“’Developing and transition economies are likely to face sluggish import demand for their goods as a result of a protracted period of slow growth in developed countries,’ said The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in a report published September 12. ‘Thus, for policymakers in the former set of countries, reverting to the pre-crisis policy stance with its emphasis on export-oriented growth is not an option.’

“The report suggests that exports from developing and transition economies to developed economies before the global recession seemed to justify the adoption of an export-oriented growth model.

“But the expansion of the world economy, though favorable for many developing countries, was built on unsustainable global demand and financing patterns. Thus, reverting to pre-crisis growth strategies cannot be an option. Rather, in order to adjust to what now appears to be a structural shift in the world economy, many developing and transition economies are obliged to review their development strategies that have been overly dependent on exports for growth. …

“The way the crisis has affected global trade patterns also calls into question the future value of the export-oriented growth model that fuelled the emergence of China and other developing world champions over the past three decades.”

My Comment: Before us there is not a long-term decline, which is then replaced by a rise. It is necessary to find a solution to this progressive fall. But to find it, you first need to make the correct diagnosis, to discover the true cause of our deteriorating condition. Talking about the nature of the periods of crisis and repeating that the crisis is already passing is naive. They did not even want to admit it at all for many years, not until 2008. But this does not solve the problem itself.

It is proposed to create a permanent international unified forum that will accept all the explanations, sort, and publish them. Thus we will attract people’s attention to our common problem. This alone would be its partial solution, because it would unite people. Further, selecting the proposed solutions, addressing their respective authors, asking them to explain (with all this to be shown in the media, our TV, and website). And thus gradually we could select the options to work out the method of Integral Education (IE).
