The Result Of An Integral Enterprise: A Reasonable Person

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: A regular company is valued by its stockholders on the basis of profit. What does the profit for an integral dissemination enterprise consist of?

Answer: The profitability of every factory is appraised according to the quantity and quality its output. Our product is a reasonable person. We evaluate our work according to how we, from other homo sapiens, sculpt the reasonable person.

For example, now we have a problem if within a short period of time, we need to serve, say a few thousand people. We set a specific goal and we need to come in contact with each one of them. This is the first stage of our work.

The next phase would be to invite them to lessons, to lectures, to all kinds of events. We already will begin to carry out some kind of work with them.

After a certain number of lessons, we must check the results we got, that is, what we did with each one of the “reasonable people.” In what way did we raise him? Did we reach the set target? To what extent does the collective actively include mutual integrality? What materials did the participants study? What opinion did they express after each lesson? We need to supervise all of this and gather the statistical data.

For statistical data, we need to conduct quizzes, surveys, and exams in order to determine to what extent the person has begun to more appreciate the collective, connection, mutual interdependence, and good relationships between people. This will tell if he will give someone the right of way when he travels to work or if he won’t give the right of way. However, when not giving the right of way, does he feel good about himself? To what extent does he feel more physically healthy? To what extent does it become more pleasant for him to be in a collective? Does he smile at the other friends, and does he identify with them, and so forth.

Question: Can we consider the time the person spent at the roundtable in discussion with the colleagues about a subject that we determined for him as a universal measurement?

Answer: No, after all, that isn’t the result, but the investment. Where is the output from it? Where is the result, the product? We must connect some small mechanism to the person and measure the level of happiness. Even if it is subjective in relation to him, we see that, in the beginning, he sat with a sour face, and now he has begun to smile a little.

Question: We have a paradoxical case study when people, at the beginning of the training assess the connection and unity of the collective as 95%, and, at the end of the training, as 80%. They begin to understand, “We aren’t united enough. Let’s do something more.”

Answer: We also need to take that into consideration. There is increasing attraction and demand with people to connect and unite. How else it is possible to evaluate the work? It is only in this way: according to the amount of people and according to the quality of the changes in them.

It Is All In Our Hands

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: It could happen that a person who participates the life of an integral society for some time in suddenly will lose interest in it. The loss of interest is temporary; but the person might not survive this, and we lose him permanently. How is it possible to help him in this state?

Answer: I think that an integral society gradually will transform into an effective one not only on the spiritual level, but also on the physical level. The person must receive from there not only warmth, stimulation, inspiration, and positive emotions, but also physical support. To do this, we must unite in mutual aid and each one must feel that it actually gives him unity with the others in practice.

After all, we still live in this world. We understand that in an integral society, it will be easier for us. We will become healthier, less susceptible to illnesses, and will better tolerate all kinds of problems, the blows of fate. However, is it possible to add a mental attitude like this through material arrangement?

Here, we come to the next stage: Can we create societies like these that truly will help one another? To do this, there are various possibilities depending upon the conditions.

Each one of us works where he is an expert in some particular area—let’s help each other by providing specialized care.

Question: Could there be a state like this where people will become dependent upon each other on the physical level, and then this would hold them in an integral society?

Answer: No, what must hold them is the feeling of creating a completely new society that is founded above our ego, not on a competitive basis, but rather on the basis of connection.

Question: Where is the line between integral mutual help and protectionism like it was in the Soviet Union? If you have connection, you are a man. You have a dentist, people in a store, a non-public mutual community.

Answer: In an integral society, we are not locked onto ourselves. We want everyone to be like that. The larger our numbers, the more we will be able to pay attention to each other, to help one another.

We are an organization without any benefit for itself, completely voluntary, understanding how to educate children today, how to maintain the familial framework, how to be in a good mood, and not deteriorate into alcoholism and drugs, and how to maintain ourselves in the right spirit. Since you are alive, so live more comfortably, in a good environment. This can be done without any material investment, even with what there is today. We can attain states like these when, in our unity, we suddenly see a material benefit in.

If we unite and declare ourselves to be a single organism (we have common purchasing power, common needs, common reserves for purchases), then we can economize in this. For particular circles in the population, this is very important. You can establish a warehouse of unneeded things that can be for mutual use. This is very effective. It is possible to organize groups for our children for nothing. Without special investments, it is possible to do things like these that otherwise would cost much of our means. It is all in our hands.

The Unexpected Discovery

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Do we need to tell people at the lectures on integral education that they are uncorrected elements of nature and that all the problems in life are brought about by them? Wouldn’t this depress people?

Answer: This will not happen in two cases: First, if people come to this conclusion themselves in the course of a workshop as a result of the proper pre-designed questions asked in the correct sequence, this will become their personal discovery. It will turn out that you are not proving something to them, but they themselves draw definite conclusions, give you your methodology themselves. They “give birth” to it every time.

Second, if you speak from the perspective of a doctor, telling the patient about his illness and making him understand that there is a cure, then, it will become a pleasant discovery for him because he will understand at once that by getting rid of the disease, he will rise to a completely different level of health.

You can tell people that they are uncorrected elements of nature only in these two instances.

In general, we never start with this. I believe that a person should not be told anything unpleasant—or even pleasant—because he must discover everything himself. Then, it will be his attainment, his feeling. After all, it is not someone else’s thought that whizzed past his ear and disappeared in the air, but his own that he has found within himself. He will own it and will not part with it.

Different People Are Needed, Different People Are Important

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: With regard to equality in wages at an enterprise engaged in the dissemination of the integral method, let’s take an instructor and a janitor as an example. Their work requires completely different efforts and is different with respect to the emotional stress involved with the work. A janitor takes a mop and cleans the floor, while the instructor has to study and read from dawn to sunset; he has to constantly take ongoing training courses, etc. What would be the correct approach?

Answer: I don’t understand why a janitor should receive less money than an instructor. Let’s say I wanted to be a research scientist because I felt a desire for this. After all, I was made this way by nature and I was realizing this call. At the same time, some girl came from some rural place and works as a janitor. She participates in our company and must attend our courses and must be together with us in the collective work of the one common whole, in one healthy team, as an independent unit. Therefore, I don’t see anything in her that would make her lower than me.

Moreover, nothing will work without her. If she becomes included in the team, then everything depends on her as well. If this system is integral and analog, then every part is like one whole. Therefore, we should not break this spiritual principle.

Integral Education For Teachers And Psychologists

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: At the congress in Stockholm, you said that the professionals closest to us are teachers and psychologists. Immediately, a teacher with 35 years of experience said, “Finally, my experience is in demand, and I’ll tell you how to teach your methodology of integral education.”

Also a psychologist said, “You do it the wrong way. You can’t do anything. You should be trained for three years, you need to complete psychology courses.” However, she did not finish our training, constantly falls back into her profession, and is unable to grasp the integral methodology. But when she heard your statement, she decided that it was her finest hour.

Answer: Of course not! I meant that it might be easier for a person who is accustomed to methodical work and knows the principles of organizing it to develop our methodology . But neither teachers nor psychologists can be above everyone else. Moreover, to develop the methodology, it is better not to involve teachers but curriculum developers instead because they know how to explain it.

How is a lesson plan in school usually created? First, they speak about one thing, then another, the corresponding representation is drawn, a specific example is given. Similarly, we have to describe in a talk, then a workshop, then questions and answers, etc. You need a specialist who is familiar with the correct presentation of the material for this, someone who lives this, not a teacher, but a curriculum developer.

I mentioned teachers and psychologists because they have an approach, the experience of interaction with an audience, but nothing more. They have to be fully integrated with us in everything else; leaving their previous form, they should be reborn; their inner message should be ours.

So I don’t think that teachers and psychologists are the ones who can immediately go out to people, and by no means should they tell us what to do. If the female psychologist says otherwise, then she has no place among us.

Bearer Of A Good Method

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: How can we explain to social services organizations that we work with that in order to internalize the integral method, nothing will work for them without us? Is it possible, for example, to tell them that we have some special characteristics or knowledge?

Answer: You don’t have any unique characteristics. You simply have created and are in a collective through which you are powered by its integral sum of knowledge, strength and emotion. There are numerous psychological articles on this subject; it is not mysticism or religion. So, you possess these characteristics. Without the collective, you are nothing on your own. If they don’t have a collective like this, then they too are nothing.

It doesn’t matter how you talk with them or on what you base your words. Everything depends only on this: How they will get inner warmth from you. If this will begins to sprout in them, if they can listen to each other, talk with each other, and cry with each other within their circle, then you can work quietly with them, and then they will understand that you are the bearer of a very good method.

Unity Is The Main Product Of The Integral Enterprise

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What must be done if a person in our dissemination project of the integral method doesn’t relate to his obligations in a dedicated way?

Answer: We need to prescribe very precise requirements for him so that he will participate in all of our lessons, internal workshops, in everything that is included in our work; this is a rigorous duty. There are no other options.

If a person doesn’t relate in a dedicated manner to his obligations, we simply give him notice of his termination. He cannot work in the system of the integral education if he isn’t systematically engaged with us in learning the material, constantly preparing; call it a renewal of training. He must be within our project all the time, including the regular classes, the internal discussions, workshops, meetings, dinners with friends, and so forth, because we have a special collective.

Our collective “sells” our unity. Therefore a person cannot come to work in his “Rolls Royce,” call on his cell phone and ask, “Where are you sending me today?” and travel there to work in comfort. Absolutely not! His agenda is inseparable from the daily agenda of our project and includes within it all kinds of activities.

We agree from the start that a person has, let’s say, two visits per day to different places, and the rest of the time he needs to fill with work in the project: editing manuals, developing courses, lectures, reference books, or involvement with some other kind of dissemination.

So his day job is serious and irregular, for we need to accommodate ourselves to our external consumers.

Question: How is it possible to measure, from the point of view of the integral approach, how much a person needs to work?

Answer: Baal HaSulam writes that a person must be occupied with this twelve to fourteen hours a day or more. But this is written in the book, The Last Generation, whereas we are not yet found on this level. It is also said that it will continue this way until there is not one person who is not happy.

The Essential Difference

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: In our connection before going out for dissemination is there a place for concepts like jealousy and respect?

Answer: Certainly. You see we are involved with a person’s ego, we understand the foundation of his nature. Therefore there must be jealousy, control, respect, and appreciation, also a feeling of security, breakthrough, pleasure, and so forth. All of these characteristics must be at work.

The only thing is that the person must remember what he is doing this for. The most essential task is to bring the world to an integral state. In a form like this we raise it to a higher energy, to a higher goal; the essential difference between our dissemination campaign and others is in this. We are realizing it from this point; it is the first and the last. It is the first because we are beginning the internal preparation from it, and it is the last because with it we are going out to people and want to plant it in the hearts of our listeners. Therefore it is always conveyed within the stream of our workshops, discussions, answers, questions, and songs, no matter what we are doing.

This is a clear direction for transforming the masses into one complete unit because in a form like this they will combine and become balanced with all of nature. The higher goal is the main task that determines the whole method from the beginning of the action; it is the desired end result.

Besides this, it becomes the essential motivation for the workers in the enterprise of disseminating the integral method. By participating in the integral connection, through them, they convey the higher energy and feel how it fills them; they live this.

Primary Care

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: How close must the connection be between the teacher and the participants who are receiving integral education?

Answer: The student who participates cannot advance without a guide. The guide really needs to impose himself on the student because otherwise the person will float around where he is, he will be completely “scattered” in all kinds of implementations that will not bring him a normal outcome. This will become a way of suffering. People will seemingly do something, but nothing will come of it.

The main thing is will we teach them at the end of every workshop to feel its result, which is connection, from which all of us together get energy, stimulation, and warmth. After the workshop I leave with another point of view of the world and for a few days, and even weeks, I can feel myself as a completely different person. I relate differently to children, to the family, and to society with more patience, with more friendship. I begin to feel that I am found in harmony not only with human society, the neighbors, and so forth, but also with nature, and I want everyone to feel this.

This should elevate me and this depends upon the frequency of the workshops. It is absolutely possible that for beginners we need to arrange workshops twice a week and it could also be every day. It seems it is necessary to do this through the Internet. After a single physical workshop, conduct three or four virtual workshops until the next physical meeting.

Every person needs primary care like this.
