What does it mean that everyone has to prepare their heart for connection? In the old days, houses were built not from smooth bricks but from stones of arbitrary shape. They were only trimmed a little so that they could be put together, and this is how the walls of the house were laid.

This is how we rub our hearts to polish them and make them suitable for reaching one goal: connection and advancement on the spiritual path. Everyone adjusts himself to the friend in order to build a common house, a common spiritual vessel.

Therefore, we need to trim our hearts. Everyone checks how much he is able to connect himself with the others: what stands in his way, what is superfluous, and what is missing. Through this personal work on ourselves, we can reach rubbing even between the stony hearts themselves. Everyone warms up their hearts.

If we understand that we are obliged to do this according to the purpose of creation, then everyone is trimming his own stone in order to adapt it to others. He no longer looks only at himself but evaluates himself in terms of readiness to connect. Where and how much I need to trim myself is checked only with respect to connecting with others in order to make contact with them.

Therefore, there is no need to try to make everyone completely rectangular. We just need to match each other. Let each one have a curved shape, but if the other has the suitable curvature, then we match each other.

That is why we can start working together from the first second. The main thing is not to check how straight a friend is (like a standard brick), but how much he matches me and I him. If we can adjust ourselves to each other, then we have the opportunity to build together a system inside us for the revelation of the Creator, a temple, a house of holiness, for the revelation of the quality of bestowal between us.

I do not know in advance what my qualities should be. I am not able to choose my qualities and form; rather, it is the environment that determines what form I must take in order to become integrated with the friends.

It is like in ancient masonry where you need to fit one stone under another to lay down a wall, this is how we need to work on our hearts. Not a single heart wants to be trimmed to a flat rectangular shape, removing everything that does not match the other.

In order to make standard blocks that are used in construction today, it is necessary to completely crush the natural material in order to mold the desired shape from these crumbs. But in spirituality, it is impossible. We would like to do this to others according to our egoism, but it does not work.

In true spiritual development, it is necessary to let everyone develop in his own way, and then he will develop into his optimal form. The other will remain in a way that is suitable for him. It is only necessary to eliminate the force of resistance between us, and then we will reveal the form of connection that the Creator wished to have between us. It is the form of connection revealed between us that is called the Creator.

Otherwise, we will not reveal anything except fabrications of our mind with which it is impossible to build any building. This is why we see that everything built by people is being destroyed: both the structure of the family and the spiritual society.

Therefore, we just need to know how to connect hearts.

Kabbalah is the science of using the upper force. Through connection and mutual guarantee, you can invite this force upon yourself. If you want to become similar to it, it influences you to the extent of your aspiration for it.

When a great number of people connect, they annul themselves relative to each other in order to connect together and create something common. This is no longer something like a gathering of ten people because the multitude creates something common in connection with each other as if it is eleventh. They give birth to a common desire—not the sum of their desires, but something common.

This common desire is above them, at the next level, and it is like their common child. Within it, they begin to feel the Creator—the upper force, the upper world, and the upper state. This no longer relates to our world.

Reaching such a connection in spite of your egoism so that you feel not yourself or even others, but the common thing between you, it is already the first serious spiritual degree. And the rest of the degrees are also built on the same principle.

Question: How does the process itself happen? Let’s say people get together and play at connection. What is happening in spirituality at this time?

Answer: Spirituality is right here, within us. We are in the same dimension as these forces. We connect them, use them, and exist inside them. After all, there are only two forces: the force of desire and the force of light. It is very simple.

The main thing at the congress is to open our hearts. After all, the congress is a gathering of hearts in order to correct the broken heart of Adam HaRishon, the common world soul we all are a part of. Therefore we need to try to feel how far we are from each other in our hearts.

The heart is everything that is in a person—all his desires and thoughts. Exactly these desires for fulfillment are what we must connect with each other, and try to feel the other, which will mean that we are connected.

To the extent that we love others as ourselves, we will begin to feel the force that disappeared from us during the shattering of the soul, the sin of Adam HaRishon. We will connect our hearts above our egoistic desires to correct this system and begin to feel the Creator again. In our common heart will reign one single and special upper force—the Creator, besides which there is nothing.

This is the purpose of our life and existence, the purpose of creating all worlds and all nature. The progress in this direction, feelings and thoughts related to the process of revealing the system of the Creator and the Creator Himself inside it altogether is called the opening of the heart.

When the heart opens, we begin to feel how spiritual organs are born and grow within us, as in any developing living body: brain, heart, liver, arms, legs, and so on. We will feel how we act with all parts of the heart to the extent that we want to connect them into one system. As from a drop of semen developing in the mother’s womb, so from our tiny inner desire for unity, connection, and mutuality, a special being will begin to develop within the upper force of the Creator.

To the extent that we can unite with each other and connect with the Creator, we will feel ourselves existing in one body, in one Creator, as parts of this common body, which are called friends. We will grow like cells of a living body, and feel our connection with each other and interdependence. As far as one can bestow to another, and the other to the third one, spreading further and further, we will build our one common body.

Imagine billions of tiny desires, each of which develops not by itself but due to connection with other desires, and so it grows, feeling its purpose and purpose of development.

By building ourselves in this way, we build the attainment of the Creator; we begin to understand who He is, how He dresses in us, and how to come closer to Him. From here it becomes clear how important each friend is, which enhances our power of resolve in attaining the Creator. Each friend brings me closer to the Creator, adds more and more attainment as if increasing the zoom and adding another hundred, a thousand, tens of thousands of new details that combine into one picture.

Then I clearly see the picture of the upper world and my attitude toward everyone. I see all the movements of everyone, their thoughts and intentions and all the changes taking place in them. I recognize in them one force, one upper root, which by awakening everyone in this way, speaks to me.

Thus, from the love for the created beings, we attain love for the Creator and begin to get acquainted with one single reality. It all starts with the connection of hearts.

Question: You constantly direct students to the group. What would this action be for someone not in the group as such?

Answer: I do not have to mechanically be in a group with you. I am inside it.

Do you think that a group is ten men sitting in a circle and talking to each other? The group is an inner force. Everything exists in the world of infinity, in absolute perfection, but everyone feels it in the qualities he is in at the moment.

My teacher, Rabash, gave an example, if you look at a plane flying in the sky, one believes that its length is 5 meters, another thinks it is 50 meters, and the third person 100 meters. How can we grasp the real length of the plane if it is far away? We cannot. That is, everyone measures it in their qualities.

The second commandment… it is love—that one should love one’s Master with whole love…even though you do not know if I will come after you to support you… [and] although I am not giving you anything, your love will still be whole, to adhere to Me with all your heart and soul (Zohar for All, Introduction of The Book of Zohar, The Second Commandment, Item 198).

Ultimately, we are talking about desires. If the other’s desire and my desire are arranged in such a way that I want to use his desire to fulfill my own, this is called “self-love.”

If we are in an equal state: “I give to him, and he gives to me,” each of us perceives his desire and the desire of the other as one.

For example, as in a combat team or as “one man with one heart,” this is the condition “do not do to the other what is hateful to you.” Then you will be connected to each other, but on condition that you are connected together by one desire. This is not love, but the connection of friends.

Whereas love means that I take my desire and put it below the desire of a friend (the level of love depends on how much lower) in order to use my desire only to fulfill the desire of a friend. His desire determines everything for me, and I live inside his desire, like a mother inside a baby. She feels everything he feels and what he needs, and only exists for this. This is called love.

Therefore, “to adhere with all your heart and soul” means to perceive the desire of the other as your own and take care only to serve his desire day and night. When is this possible? When everyone connects together under the influence of the upper force.

All our work is to transition from the perception of reality in egoistic sense organs to the perception of reality in altruistic sense organs.

This is the whole difference between the feeling of this world and the feeling of the upper world, between our current perception of reality in which we live in a lie, away from the Creator, and without any perception where we are, to understand, feel, and know where we exist, and within whom and with whom we reside.

This change of perception is made by the effort of a person. But beforehand there must be a desire to change our perception because it will happen only if we desire it. Therefore we must make an effort to imagine the upper reality, to create its image in ourselves as the Kabbalistic books speak about, and to build such relationships among us in the group.

Then during the study when we read about this upper reality, we will demand that a force from above come and open to us the organs of sensation, these floodgates of sensations, that we would reveal where we really are and not remain in this false, imaginary, far-fetched picture that appears to us today in our muddied organs of sensation. Thus, all of our work is to give correct definitions of what is called true reality.

Each of us, with all his might and as much as possible, should try to imagine, draw, paint, or form for himself a kind of supreme image in which we are all united in our desires together and with the Creator so there is no difference between us, but within us and between us reigns the Creator, the quality of bestowal and mutual love.

There is nothing but this state; there are no imaginary pictures, and we ask from this reality that it affect us and manifest in us. This should be the result of our efforts.

This is exactly what a person should constantly strive for during the reading of The Book of Zohar and other Kabbalistic books. And this is why these books speak about the true reality. Otherwise we could read books written in a different style, or there would be no point in reading them at all.

Therefore when we read about the upper reality in these books, we must try to achieve it. As Baal HaSulam writes in the Introduction to the Study of the Ten Sefirot, Item 155 “…through the yearning and the great desire to understand what they are learning, they awaken upon themselves the Lights that surround their souls—from the only existing state, and thus they correct themselves.

Question: When someone falls spiritually, we have to support each other along the way. You say a person must go through these states. What is the limit of our intervention?

Answer: There is no limit. If you are doing it with love, there are no prohibitions. To support means to help with love. If you think about the benefit of a friend and do not think that he is being punished for his benefit, then everything will be fine.

Question: Suppose a person cannot wake up for a lesson. Where is the fine line between the fact that I have to bring him to class and the fact that I will harm him by doing that?

Answer: It is necessary to treat such situations very delicately, to try to be gentle with your friends.

I was not always successful with that. I remember I got very irritated, I could not stop myself. “How is it possible not to get up for the lesson?” One day, another day, and the same every time. You wake up the friend. “That’s it, that’s it, I’m getting up,” he shouts from the balcony, and ten minutes later, it turns out that he fell asleep even more soundly. And how to wake him up? You no longer know what to do. I tried everything. Of course, it was wrong, I was still a beginner then. But all this was not simple.

Our entire path is not easy. Now it is much easier because the masses create the corresponding field, and it is already easy for every beginner, he feels that there is such an action in the world, such an opinion, such a desire, such a relationship. There are already talks about it: something is soaring somewhere.

Today it is so easy compared to what it used to be! Before, it seemed quite the opposite. It was very hard! I think the support is getting better and better every day.

Question: How can I not to give in to the misconception that I am doing good for another person to overpower what is not worth doing?

Answer: Nothing will help! Until a person is corrected, nothing will help.

Question: In this world, in this illusion, we are given the opportunity to connect together. By playing in connection with each other, do we thereby correct the spiritual?

We are trying to unite, but we do it consciously. We know that we must call a higher power upon ourselves and we use all kinds of advice from Kabbalists for how to do this most effectively. Therefore, a group of ten people comes together with a certain intention and discusses those topics that bring us closer to the power of the light.

This is the light of reason, the light that fills us, and from which it becomes warm inside. This is how we operate.

You can call it a ritual, how the ancient priests caused some kind of phenomena, it does not matter. The main thing is that our actions should be aimed at challenging the positive force of nature, which immediately affects us and gradually, step by step, begins to purposefully change.

These actions become vital for you, because thanks to them you change, and it happens absolutely clearly. You feel how from time to time completely different realizations occur in you, an understanding of what is happening, and your relationship with other people, with the forces of nature. Moreover, you yourself begin to influence this force, attract it quite intensively, and change faster than all other people because they do not use this opportunity. This is what Kabbalah gives us.

Question: What is luck in spiritual work?

Answer: Luck, Mazal in Hebrew, is from the word “Nozel – drips.” If drops of light, photons from above, drip on you, then you are lucky.

Drops of light illuminate your path a little, ignite a spark in the darkness, and then you can at least see something. Although, drops of light give points of sparks, lights up and goes out, lights up and goes out, nevertheless, from them you get some idea, not of the picture that is around, but of how you should act in it. It is most important!

Based on this, one can begin to annul oneself in front of the group. This is the biggest problem! We hear about it, we read about it, but we are not able to internally understand it in order to begin to annul before the friends. That is why the beginning of implementation is so difficult.

And before that, you do not understand at all: “Could it not have been done at least a couple of years earlier? For ten years I was sitting and listening, but I was just listening!”

What does “heard” mean? For the first couple of years, it passed by the ear at a distance of ten centimeters, then at a distance of five, two centimeters, and, finally, it began to enter me.
