Replacing The Old Generation

623Question: Will the way to rise above one’s nature take place through political reorganization or through some kind of ethical and moral one?

What should be first here, what should be the second? Or will ethical and moral awareness entail a change in political instruments and the appearance in the politics of people who will understand this and will move toward it?

Answer: I think that modern politicians, scientists, and leaders will not even be able to understand this, let alone realize it. They will not be able to take part even in the change of society. These are the wrong people, the wrong generation. A new one must come. It is already slowly growing out of the children of these same people.

Hope Cures

291Doctors are certain that hope prolongs life. Therefore, they advise patients to be optimistic and hope for the best. Hope awakens such psychological mechanisms in a person that help the body recover and appreciate life. Hope starts in the head, then turns into a feeling, and strengthens all protective systems in the body.

So how can we develop such hope in a person? First of all, by external influence: films, conversations, and books that can encourage a person, support his hopes for the future, and give him life force.

In order to overcome despair, a person should try to rise to the level above it, to the next degree, and check from there where despair came from and why. It can be that it will lead a person to positive changes. Overcoming despair does not mean destroying it. Perhaps, on the contrary, all human development is due to disappointments when we despair of what we have and want things to get better.

You need to see despair as a means to advance. But this requires a good environment and support from friends. Friends must throw a rope to a drowning person and pull him out of a stormy sea.

Hope is an illumination from the future that attracts a person and pulls him out of the evil stream of life like a lifeline thrown to a drowning person in a river.

Hope is transmitted from one to the other like a virus. We need a national or even a global program that brings great hope to people, and we will thus move toward a good future.

First of all, a person must understand that everything that happens is good and that there is nothing bad in the world. All the evil we see is caused by the lack of good connection between us. It turns out that we only need to understand how to connect with each other with good connections in order to make our life good.

A person should be educated regarding this in the way a child is brought up in everything else. Initially, a child has only one innate instinct: to grab everything and put it in his mouth. But education makes a person out of him. Education should be such that it raises a person to a new level. A person should despair every moment, but still grasp the next moment and put all his hopes into it.

Why Do We Need People?

962.3Question: What will happen when technology makes a large number of people unnecessary? They will not be needed, not because they are bad or unsuccessful in any way, but because advanced technologies are set like all businesses to reduce costs.

The main costs today are people because a business owner needs to pay them salaries, take care of them, provide them with medical insurance, and so on.

Therefore, the current economy is aimed at ensuring that work is done by machines and not people.

Answer: I can only say one thing: progress, oddly enough, has really led to the fact that nobody needs people. Nobody at all! Neither the mighty bunch that is at the top nor managers who live only for themselves and the rest work for them.

The question arises: “Why do we need people at all?”

The fact is that people are absolutely not needed for supporting the economy, feeding themselves, or even feeding others. They are needed to perform a completely different task—to reveal nature, to unfold its second part.

Apart from the egoistic property of reception with which we were born and lives and develops in us, we must reveal the reverse side of nature, the altruistic one. Then both qualities will complement each other. Not destroying, like nuclear weapons, for example, but complementing. Then we will see a completely different nature, a different world, and will discover and understand what the purpose of our existence is.

We will see that all people are needed. Nature is perfect and absolutely complete. There is nothing superfluous in it. We must come to a state when our complementing each other will bring us to such an understanding of nature that the world will seem eternal, perfect, infinite, great, and accommodating absolutely everyone as its uppermost, magnificent, wonderful part, and not the way we now seem to be existing only in the one egoistic property of nature.

We must definitely reveal its second part, and then we will see how perfect everything is.

There Is No Point In Working

961.1Comment: I recently read an article that quotes people’s letters. “I do not want to work anymore,” a large number of people categorically declare.

People are making comments like: “COVID has opened my eyes, I no longer want to get up every morning, get in the car, type in my password and answer emails. I cannot take it anymore! I just want to enjoy life while I am healthy and full of energy. I want to see my friends, travel, read, and take care of my garden. Luckily, I can afford it financially.”

People are beginning to think that there is no point in working hard.

My Response: There is no point in working at all.

Question: Provided you can get the necessities?

Answer: No more than this. To live in this way. Why do you want more? No need to litter the Earth.

Question: What will people come to as a result?

Answer: To the fact that they will begin to arrange the world so that they work less. There is no need for this. They will be engaged in self-education via the Internet inevitably.

Question: Do you think that this request, “I want to rest” will turn into self-education?

Answer: Yes. In order to fill yourself and your environment. That is, they will fill the influence on themselves with greater meaning.

Question: Does it mean that this request: “Let me live peacefully and relax,” one way or another, will turn into the search for some kind of fulfillment?

Answer: Yes. This is exactly “to live and relax.” Only I want to understand why I live, why I rest, what I need to do with myself, how I can achieve greater saturation, fulfillment, and connect with the world around me in a more peaceful way?

Question: Do you think that this is correct?

Answer: Yes. Why should I work hard to make a living? I have enough for bread. Humanity should not work so hard. All this is excessive and only pollutes the Earth.

Question: What will we come to as a result?

Answer: To the fact that our life will be more balanced, necessary, sufficient, but not excessive when later we do not know what to do with these excesses. We throw them away, and we produce them again, and we throw them away again, and we continue this endlessly. And the ordinary people pay for it.

Destructive Force Of Our World

115.05Question: You talk a lot about egoism, which is the destructive force of our world. What is this and how can a person, who thinks that he is far from being an egoist and is a righteous man, understand that the roots of egoism are deeply embedded in him and must be worked with?

Answer: Egoism is the single central force of the world we exist in. Only egoism, that is, the desire to do everything in the best possible way for oneself, reigns at all levels: inanimate, vegetative, animal, and human.

This force governs all created beings, inanimate, vegetative, animal, and human essence, and is called “egoism.” At the same time, we practically do not reckon with anything, it is inherent in us. I am not interested in what will happen to another person unless it harms me. This is our nature.

On the other hand, it is in contradiction to all the details of the universe. If everyone is guided in this way in relation to others, then we will simply strangle, kill, and harm each other.

If we had some kind of balance, “do unto others as you would have them do unto you,” then we would come to a state in which we would not be afraid of each other and would wish each other what we wish for ourselves.

Therefore, the most important thing we need to achieve is balance with the surrounding nature and people. Otherwise, we, as today, will exist at the expense of each other, and therefore, our whole life will be devoted only to compensating for egoism.

How Can One See The Perfection Of Nature?

720Because any observation of the work of Creation is enough to teach us about the greatness and perfection of its Operator and Creator. Therefore, we must understand and be very careful when casting a flaw in any item of Creation, saying it is redundant and superfluous, as that would be slander about its Operator. (Baal HaSulam, “Peace in the World”)

When we look at something in the world, at human characteristics, at still, vegetative, animate, and speaking phenomena and ask why it exists because it would be preferable if it didn’t exist, what we are saying is that we don’t understand the perfection of the image of nature.

The only thing that we must do is correct ourselves and then we will see how nature is corrected.

Why are natural forms found at odds with each other, in struggle, and eating each other? If people who want to eat each other would achieve a state of mutual accommodation and wholeness on the human level, we would see how all of nature also becomes like this.

We Need A Different Kind Of Work

547.05In the News (BBC.com):Trials of a four-day week in Iceland were an ‘overwhelming success’ and led to many workers moving to shorter hours, researchers have said.

“Productivity remained the same or improved in the majority of workplaces, researchers said. …

“Workers reported feeling less stressed and at risk of burnout, and said their health and work-life balance had improved. They also reported having more time to spend with their families, do hobbies and complete household chores.

“Will Stronge, director of research at Autonomy, said: ‘This study shows that the world’s largest ever trial of a shorter working week in the public sector was by all measures an overwhelming success.'”

My Response: Iceland is not a place for this experiment. This doesn’t prove to the world that a four-day week works.

They are all frozen people in no hurry. I remember what struck me when I arrived there. From the plane you go to the airport building and from the airport building to the street. No stamps, no controls. You are free to go wherever you want! It is just incredible!

Question: Where is customs? Where is border control and border guards?

Answer: There is nothing! There is no such thing at all! It was so unexpected!

Question: So is that the character of the people?

Answer: And the character of the nation. They each have 200 – 300 sheep, their own house, and not just one. They have a house they live in and a couple of houses that they rent to tourists. And each of these houses is fully equipped including an open-air sauna with snow all around and so on.

Question: Do you think that even a three-day week would do for such a country?

Answer: It doesn’t matter. This is not a place for experiments. They are self-sufficient, they are at peace.

Question: And how do you feel about this experiment that everyone in the world is talking about, a four-day working week?

Answer: What, you want to free a man from his work? What will he do?

I don’t think this will give humanity what is seemingly expected. We must clearly educate people to a new lifestyle. And in general, we should have started doing this a long time ago.

Question: What kind of lifestyle?

Answer: When one will have a lot of free time aside from necessary work. And today, he clogs this time with unnecessary work, pollutes the earth, the environment, and so on.

We need to make sure that this person uses his time correctly for self-improvement, to become human and to study how to get closer to other people because this is the correction of the world.

It is a job. And it is necessary to make it so that it is a real job, and not that it is three days off and you can do what you want.

Question: So one is never free from this work of connection with others? Is this a full-time job? Like at a company, at home, and in general, all the time?

Answer: Yes. It does not matter where or what.

Question: And one is always in this work of building connections with each other, good relations?

Answer: Yes.

Hiroshima-Day—A Warning For The Future

293Hiroshima Remembrance Day commemorates the victims of the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima that occurred 76 years ago; it makes one think and feel horrified at the possibility of a new nuclear war. Baal HaSulam writes that if we do not come to unity through which we would draw a positive force into the world from above, then third and fourth world wars may break out and at least one of them will be nuclear.

There are many movies about what would happen if nuclear war breaks out: a world in ruins and a handful of people miraculously survivor and wander the earth and don’t know where to go.

If it comes to such a collapse, people will loose their human appearance and will turn into animals. They will use all the strength they have left only to survive and suffer less. And they will behave toward each other accordingly. I do not envy those who survive such a war.

Many countries today possess nuclear weapons, and what can be done to prevent those weapons from falling into the hands of terrorists? There is only one solution: connection and unity between all.

For example, if the United States, Russia, and China could unite, then these three major powers could keep the whole world in order and prevent anyone from starting a war. But today such connection is impossible because everyone is in their own egoism. We need a “virus” that will destroy our egoism, and then no one will think about war but will only dream of a quiet life.

Unfortunately, no one is interested in such a “virus,” but each seeks to raise their egoism as high as possible. Israel is obliged to give such a method of correction to the world, but so far, this is impossible because it is moving in the opposite direction. Therefore, the world is gradually sliding toward nuclear war.

If Israel does not bring people to connection, which is its duty, then it will cause their separation, which will become more and more aggravated until it explodes in a war.

We must change direction and take a course toward unity. In Israel, people who understand that it is necessary to lead the world to unity must awaken. We can only hope for such awakening.

What Would I Say To Bill Gates?

962.3In the News (BBC.org):Solving climate change would be ‘the most amazing thing humanity has ever done’, says the billionaire founder of Microsoft.

“By comparison, ending the pandemic is ‘very, very easy’, he claims.

“Mr Gates’s new book, How to Avoid a Climate Disaster, is a guide to tackling global warming. …

“‘We’ve never made a transition like we’re talking about doing in the next 30 years. There is no precedent for this.’ …

“This has to continue to be a huge priority for the world year in, year out.

“The hope is ‘we get a bit lucky’ and succeed in developing innovative new technologies that really do solve the hard areas, he says.

“But he is optimistic that we can still avoid the worst effects of climate change.”

Question: If you would write him a letter, what would you say in it?

Answer: I would tell him this: “Bill, you are a good American guy, and I am glad that your heart hurts for the future of humanity once you are no longer alive. And you are not trying to fly far to other planets like Elon Musk to create some colonies there.

But you see, everything that you propose must be based on the change of man. Change the world, we have come to such a state when changing the world depends only on changing man. Directly! One to one.

So, you want the climate to improve? Change the person. You want less emissions—oil, gas and so on? Change the person. You want people to have less AIDS and all sorts of other diseases? Change the person.

You must put this in your head as the true, real, primary cause of everything because a person can do everything in the world except change himself.

How to change yourself? There is such a technique. It must be taught, it must be put into practice. Then we can actually change the world. Changing the world is in changing the person. Only!”

Question: So you propose to start studying your science?

Answer: I propose the study of the science of Kabbalah and to try more and more with its help to see how we can actually change the world. And changing the world can happen only by changing the person.

For example: if tomorrow you make some new discoveries and can neutralize half of all emissions into the atmosphere, it will not change anything in the end. It will not change! It seems to you that this will be a huge leap forward? No, it will not. You will see; everything that we do on earthly level will not help. It is necessary to change the person himself.

And this is already a complex solution. Only by bringing a person to a state where he can realize which of his actions are fatal to humanity and which are to its benefit can you change our future.

Otherwise what? Will you forbid everyone to use the oven, microwave, or own a car? It is impossible. It is necessary to change a person, his attitude toward himself, toward the environment.

A person should feel that if it is harmful, it should not be used! And he has practically no such prohibitions today. With him, all these prohibitions amount to: “more expensive versus cheaper.” So through all sorts of taxes, by anything, you will not achieve a thing. They will slip away anyway.

Comment: Still, he is not a stupid person. I think he would have asked you: “Dr. Laitman, you yourself say that this is human nature. If this is human nature, can it really be changed?”

My Response: This is the only method, and Kabbalah offers it. A method for changing, truly changing, a person. Therefore, it is the most ancient, the toughest science. But it is the only science that can actually cope with a person.

Question: What should a person understand?

Answer: Man is the center of this world. He can destroy it, he can destroy himself, or on the contrary, he can revive. That is, we need to make sure that a person understands that it is in his power and where he leads this world with each of his actions.

This is education.

We Must “Grow Wings”

596Question: Tatiana writes: “You are always scaring us that the virus will return, that it will harass us. You say that the reason is us, that we are bad, that we are egoists and think only about ourselves. But we won’t change! Why beat us? It’s like you’re demanding that we grow wings. But they won’t grow!”

Answer: In order for us to eventually learn and even want to even be beaten, but the main thing is that “wings grow.”
“Wings have grown” means that we have gained a screen so that the possibility of “flying above ourselves” has grown in us, above our egoism.

Question: Is that why we are being beaten now?

Answer: Yes. So that gradually, gradually, we want to rise, rise, rise above the earth. Like a bird, it does not immediately take off, it flaps its wings, and then takes off.

Question: So we are beaten in order for us to take off?

Answer: Of course! Exactly for this!

Question: Not for the sake of making us feel bad?

Answer: No! From the side of nature, there is no such thing at all! Nature does not punish anyone; it only corrects and pushes.

Question: So your answer to Tatiana is that we should “grow wings”?

Answer: Yes, absolutely.

Question: And we will “fly off the ground”? Above our ego?

Answer: Yes.
