Unity Instead Of Generosity

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: You spoke about money as an obsolete unit of currency, and that society is heading towards the creation of a new currency that will be based on the strength of mutual cooperation between people. One of the greatest concerns related to money is the fear that there won’t be any. How can this new currency help a person to overcome fears of this kind?

Answer: Fear doesn’t depend on the number of banknotes I possess. This is an internal, psychological phenomenon. A person always checks himself in relation to the environment, so he honestly believes that with a large amount of money covering him, he will feel more secure and less afraid.

For a large part of the world’s population it would be helpful if they could be released from this fear, with what is called a basket of goods necessary for living. And people would pay for all of the products that go into this basket, as is done now with health insurance and pensions. It could be that it will be possible to solve part of this question at the expense of those whose income is above average. But this action must be accompanied by an explanation to and education of the population.

Comment: Until now a person truly thought of money as a motivating force. Whereas now we are speaking about a new resource, which we apparently ignored and didn’t taken into account.

Answer: We always celebrate important events while we gather around a table. Here a person apparently generally gets respect. This is not just the generosity of the rich strata to the poor, rather it is an act of connection, with the participation of everyone. In this way we raise people to another level of understanding: How do we attain a life where money belongs to everyone and doesn’t belong to anyone individually?

On the other hand, this activity must itself be carried out cooperatively. I would absolutely put the reception of a basket of necessities as a condition for participation in integral education, lectures, and workshops.

All of our fears are derived from comparing ourselves with others. But if I am in the same situation as everyone else, then even in the worst of times, I can feel good about myself. In addition to this and through connection, we are ready to discover additional sources of power that are derived from the connection itself, the combining of opposites, and those that may be at a distance. We can find new wealth that we didn’t know existed.

By representing this educational program to the people, as a result, we receive positive energy and the ability to influence even the most indifferent strata of the population. As a result, they will also be compelled to change. Therefore, successful steps to popularize the idea about a consumer basket of necessities will serve as a key for general change within the entire nation.

Going Out To Establish Interpersonal Connections

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What does a strong family, a strong home, mean for a Kabbalist?

Answer: A strong family is a family that lives in a strong environment, and since an environment like this is good for them, this is a strong home for them.

A home is a human environment, not the stone walls or physical structure. Nowadays, the concept of a home has gradually changed its meaning, and it is understood that stone walls no longer can protect us from anything whatsoever and don’t provide any sense of security. This is because security is found in the good relationships and incorporation into all the circles of human society.

Today society is the next circle for a strong family home, and for society, a wider circle is the nation, and so on.

This means that the concept of a home as a cave, tent, tabernacle, apartments, etc., no longer exists. A home is about going out to establish interpersonal connection.

So here all of the physical borders have been destroyed and only internal contact between people remains. Walls, seas, and oceans cannot separate us, as we must be connected. The development of the Internet clearly shows this to us.

Question: Can Europe, which opened the borders between the nations of the European Union, serve as an example for us?

Answer: Unfortunately, Europe took this step from the point of view of egoistic benefit for itself, to make more money, avoid war, and exploit the weaker nations.

The nations of the European Union connected only the banks. In their program, the integration of all of humanity and the mutual penetration of cultures with each other did not enter into the plan. Only today are they beginning to understand how far they are from integration.

Ten Kilograms Of Effort

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Money is associated with various aspects of our lives. These connections are so many that they create a special structure: money and status, money and tradition, money and self-esteem. A person defines himself with the help of money. Will all of this go away someday?

Answer: No, only the form will change. Once a person walked around with sacks full of gold; today we get what we want everywhere by presenting a plastic card. Even though this is not obvious, a person will soon understand that his investment in society gives him the ability to fulfill himself. And it is possible to measure this.

By developing in this direction, a person acquires measuring tools. I invest ten kilograms of effort in society, and in response, I receive the same number kilograms of fulfillment from society. Together with this, a person feels free and isn’t obliged to anyone. According to what he invests in society, he receives in return.

Do you want to be satisfied solely and only on the physical level by filling yourself with what is necessary for existence? Go for it! All the rest of your needs and fulfillment depend on your degree of inclusion in society to the degree that you feel it and to the degree you invest effort.

You are not limited, you don’t expose yourself to danger and you don’t participate in competition with others such that if you take, nothing will be left for others. The more a society becomes cohesive, the more a person receives inner fulfillment.

Question: If, thanks to science, we discover inexhaustible sources of energy and instead of a car, everyone will have their own flying machine, do you think this will be negative?

Answer: I am not against technological advancement and I welcome every modern development in the field of nanotechnology. It will be good if cheap energy is developed and we purify the Earth. But what I am saying is that through the development of his desires and aspirations, a person will begin to feel that worldly things are limited they don’t fulfill him.

Question: How do we evaluate our success? Generally we connect it with some kind of attainment: a person acquires, builds, or conquers something.

Answer: There are many professions and businesses that don’t bring a person money, but self-awareness and self-esteem. And this is more important. For example, the work of doctors is very difficult, yet they don’t receive a high salary. So what keeps them in their profession? It is the respect for the profession and the importance society gives to the profession. And that is how it will be with everyone.

So why not be competitive?  You will be. There will be the same encouragement and respect. They write about me in the newspaper and children treat me with respect. A sense of importance and fulfillment will remain, but it won’t have a physical form.

Question: This means that we are talking about a process of a fundamental change in our perception?

Answer: It won’t be much, because we already live like this today. It is necessary only to change the values. This will happen because it is inevitable, since nature compels us. So it is not worthwhile for us to oppose it; on the contrary, we must help it.

Money Is A Covering For Desire

Fame With A Peaceful Purpose

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Many children and teenagers dream of becoming famous. Their appearance is extremely important to them. How is this desire born?

Answer: Obviously, these kids include all feasible pleasures into the notion of being a celebrity. We know that food, sex, and family are the basic desires that refer to bodily needs.

They are supplemented by the desires for fame, wealth, and knowledge. The quest for popularity is understandable and specific to our time. Our desires for wealth, fame, and knowledge continually change, but for a young person they are very common and natural. It has always has been; we just don’t realize.

Today’s youth has much wider opportunities. What were they dealing with previously? Becoming a little bit more skillful in their fathers’ crafts? Moving from a village to a city or from a province to a capital? In any case, their opportunities were very limited. Now, it looks like the entire world is in front of them. They think they can embrace the whole world and that they are connected to it.

Question: Can the aspiration for popularity be useful in any way?

Answer: The inclination to reach celebrity status is very common for kids nowadays and we can show them which properties are necessary to achieve fame. The desire to be famous obligates them to work on themselves, change for the better, and reveal new qualities within themselves.

Children attend dancing, drawing, and theater classes in order not to grow up as little animals and to understand that behind each star, there is hard work. Just watch Michael Jackson’s rehearsal videos and you’ll see how much exertion and hard work it takes to reach the lightness that he demonstrated on the stage. There are no stars that just fly upwards, but there are numerous incidences of falling at the start. These issues should be explained to the young generation by the mass media.

Question: Let’s say, your grandson tells you tomorrow that he wants to become famous. You are the wisest grandfather in the world! What field would you advise him to concentrate on?

Answer: In the future, those who are capable of creating good and kind relationships among people will be in huge demand and will be extremely valued by society. I am not talking about virtual relationships; I mean a real system of communication among us that is similar to the one that exists in nature.

Only this profession will really be needed and other occupations will remain only to the extent of meeting immediate human necessities. Those who work in the field of establishing correct relationships, creating the methodology of interconnection among people, and preparing educators in this field will be the most popular and respected in future society. This is what I would tell my grandson.

Question: Can specific, individual talents in painting, dancing, or singing be helpful to society?

Answer: The talents through which one plans to advance and become popular have to allow for self-expression in an enjoyable way.

For that, one has to study psychology, sociology, philosophy, and laws of communication. By expressing him or herself, they will have to help others unite. By doing so, they will fulfill themselves and fulfill others.

Soon Everyone Will Want His Own Planet

Dr. Michael LaitmanRegarding money and questions about the economy in general, countless books have been written by Nobel Prize winners in this field. Interestingly, despite this, they are frequently mistaken.

The ability to profit from a connection with other people, to buy and sell and create special relationships with them changes a person into Adam (human). Before this, people acted only through the use of force.

But today, anyone with money is found at the top of the social pyramid.

If I don’t have money, I cannot get food, establish a family or buy a house. In exchange for money I buy power, respect, and all my means of communication, because everything depends upon how the amount paid. It turns out that money is a cover, with it I can fulfill any desire.

There are some things that I cannot buy, for example, wisdom, or other kinds of characteristics I receive from nature. But it is possible to acquire them with money by buying people possessing those characteristics. For example, I can pay a person to write a book that will be signed with my name.

Not long ago, there was no substitute for money. But in the 1960s, a community of people appeared who related to wealth with contempt. They wanted to be happy about other things and wanted to be happy internally.

And even though the ego thirsts for fulfillment, many today no longer agree to a life of constant tension. A poor person has no happiness because he has no money, and a rich person has no happiness because besides money, he has nothing. And this is not a problem of money, but a problem of the society that gives us these values.

When a person has the possibility of getting everything, he loses his desire. In this sense the poor are more successful than the rich. If I have a need that I can cover through effort, if it pulls me forward, if I see pleasure through working for it in a future that shines for me from a distance, then I am happy.

A wonderful example of this need is the yearning of lovers to meet each other. This illuminates their entire lives; they wait for this meeting and are ready to overcome all difficulties for it.

If we could exist without dependence on society, let’s say, on some deserted island, and we could educate our children as we truly want, then we could get them accustomed to a simple way of life. Then they would live without tension, without crises and tragedies.

Today the world is experiencing an economic crisis. But essentially this is an ideological crisis: We have developed artificial desires in people, and after that, it turns out that we cannot satisfy them. With our claims and demands soon everyone will want his own planet. But even then he will not relax because he will immediately envy a neighbor whose planet is bigger.

The time has arrived to scrutinize how to utilize the power of covering, the power of money. On the one hand, it is necessary to educate a person such that he will bring his needs to a necessary level that we can satisfy.

On the other hand, it is necessary to think carefully about how to organize the economy so that it will be ready to create everything needed and a system of education that will move a person towards rational needs and ways to fill his spare time.

It follows that in the new economy people will be involved with the creation of money coverings for the rational balance of physical desires as well as the higher spiritual desires that will be discovered in them. This is how they will advance.

Happiness For Money?

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: The emergence of money in our world is not accidental. What is its impact on our development?

Answer: Money means the ability to cover desires. At some time in history, we used a variety of substances for this such as golden sand, coins, and other materials.

Recently, humanity has had a critical attitude to the ability to cover its desires. We see that we cannot satisfy our needs in terms of the environment; the Earth just cannot withstand our extravagance.

We have created too many artificial needs for which there is no necessity. The planet is not able to provide every luxury and so many power plants. It is like the owner of the field consuming all his harvest, leaving nothing for the new crop. He used all his fixed assets and the following year died of starvation.

In human society, we have such a monetary problem we cannot cope with it. We need to change this process and play into something less threatening.

Of course, man cannot live without his needs for development. A person receives his needs from childhood. Growing up, he looks at the people around them. The desire to be like them creates needs, which advances him in life. If we organize an environment that develops not material desires, then we will constantly have needs and their fulfillment.

We will develop, strive forward, and hopefully enjoy attainment and grieve its absence. We will not remain at the animate level and our advancement will be in the area where we are able to develop needs without threatening our physical life.

What needs can we develop that have no end? It is written simply: “Go and make money from each other.” In addition to the interpretation on the material level, this proposal could be understood so that we can create new needs in the area of various kinds of connection between us. These connections will produce new needs, and we, like in a mosaic, will constantly create new forms of their combinations.

As these needs will consist of many individual desires, then we will have to fulfill them together. Our lives will become a collective game of establishing needs and fulfilling them. It will be literally endless among 7 billion people. We will never be disappointed in that because everyone will always have an opportunity to be hungry and be filled again.

We become included in the internal, hidden layers of nature and through the connections between us, begin to feel what is happening inside us. This is in fact, a true pleasure because a person is created for these internal layers, and that is why attaining them gives him true fulfillment.

Then his connections with other people in order to achieve these fulfillments is called real money. After a long historical development, we finally come to this true covering, a collective screen, with which we will really be able to cover all our needs.

How Does One Sell Happiness?

laitman_228Question: When I look at my family and my immediate environment, I ask myself, “Is depression the result of a lack of desire to buy new things or is it created from a lack of money?”

It could be that if there were more money, happiness would return, and it would be possible to continue to celebrate purchases. However, I noticed something else: boredom.

Answer: The world doesn’t have the content that a person is looking for now. In the past, it was enough for us to see an interesting movie, have fun, and have guests. We lived in a more natural way and thought that this would go on.

However, the situation has changed. On the one hand, manufacturers don’t take into account the change in people. So, in fashion shows, designers invent costumes that are far from reality. This is a unique art through which they want to convey their views about a person’s individuality. Their examples are appropriate only for people who weigh ninety pounds, and are six and a half feet tall.

On the other hand, desires are changing fundamentally and have moved on to a new quality. Instead of money, respect, control, education, and even knowledge, a person now wants to know what he is living for. He apparently stops mid-life and begins to ponder things.

This desire comes from within; it is not because we suddenly become smarter or become philosophical. Nature changes us according to its program and thought, and we are not the masters of this.

We must see this trend, but we don’t have any possibility of changing, stopping, or slowing it down somehow. We must agree that this process will not only continue but also will expand. We will feel it more deeply and it will be difficult for us to resist it.

If we understand this from the start and react consciously, then the communications media and advertising gradually will change in the direction of greater flexibility. Then, they will go along with nature. In the opposite situation, they are like two trains, each going in the opposite direction.

We see that the world is returning to a natural form and contracting to its natural consumption. This is expressed more clearly in the financial sector. Paper money is losing its value. Everything is returning toward natural equality.

In other words, very soon, the level of our consumption will match exactly the amount of gold that we have. Then, it will be very important to understand what the new form of production and consumption will be.

We were educated by advertisements that things supposedly would make us beautiful, respected, and successful. This means that they were selling us pleasure, and what pleasures can be sold now for the new desire? It is pleasure from connection and unity! Clothe them in entertainment or creativity and a person will feel them as the source of his pleasure.

From Advertisement To True Values

laitman_547_01Once it was enough for a craftsman to hang a sign above the place where he worked. People could obtain services they required according to a list of addresses in a city. However, today, they are forced upon us, raising their value from zero to the level required.

Today, society is arranged so that our necessities are met, and every thing else is artificially inflated consumption. This  approach is clearly not reasonable or correct, but it is presented to us through investments in advertising that total 50% or more of the price of the product.

For example, recently, I saw a television channel for dogs. It would be no wonder if pets sitting in front of the television were to begin making demands, like children, for the products that are advertised to them.

Speaking seriously, humanity has sunk into a depression under the influence of the general crisis. Therefore advertising will become more and more difficult. The frustrated person doesn’t want anything. He is offered all kinds of delicacies, but he cannot taste them because he doesn’t want anything.

This trend exacerbates the general economic crisis, and we see that the world is in a decline. Of course, the crisis has not appeared everywhere, mostly in developed nations. And where it there is a shortage of necessary goods, the situation is different.

So, entrepreneurs transfer their resources to the underdeveloped nations to ready a market for their goods. Advertising helps generate consumers, but not for long.

After a few years we will see that the world will be satiated and people will be disappointed with anything that isn’t a necessity. We already are seeing now that the value of anything that we don’t need has lessened.

If a person feels that he is missing something but doesn’t know exactly what, he will be satisfied with products necessary for existence and he won’t want to make the effort for anything else. So, advertising is experiencing a crisis.

However, we must understand that advertising is a communications tool. I would say that it is a weapon of communication, a tool for communication between people. Now it influences individuals, because as yet, its purpose isn’t understood.

But if ever attention is paid to its primary job  (the creation of connections between people), then its influence will be educational: the advertisement of true values.

Europe Is Shaken

Laitman_421_01In the News (The Wall Street Journal): “European government officials have been ‘deluding’ themselves that the crisis was over and the eurozone would recover, said Charles Wyplosz, professor of international economics at the Graduate Institute Geneva. … ‘What we see now is the revelation that the situation in the eurozone is very precarious,’ he said. ‘We are sitting on a powder keg… .’

“Critics have long warned that a sustainable common currency requires something more—a political and fiscal union that puts Europe’s collective financial muscle at the service of its weaker members.”

“The Eurozone is a major threat to the global economy, the region, whose share in the world gross product is the fifth part of moves to stagnation and deflation,” writes The Economist

“Against the background of the general instability in the world economy the internal problems of Europe such as poor demographics, problematic labor markets and big debts, risking to bring down its economy, and with it create serious problems for the whole world.” (Source: CypLive)

My Comment: You must start with re-educating people; only in accordance with their level of awareness of the need for true integration, unification of the peoples of the continent, is a peaceful solution to the crisis possible.

The Essential Secret Of The Jews, Part 64

From the book The Essential Secret of the Jews, M. Brushtein

The Crisis Is According To A Consistent Pattern

The fact that the crisis is a regular thing has been known for a long time. Nikolai D.Kondratiev’s studies are widely known.

Kondratiev waves are long cycles of economic activity, the existence of which was predicted by the Russian economist Nikolai D. Kondratieff (1892-1931) who was killed during Stalin’s purges.

The cycle length is defined as about 40 years. The last drop in production accounted for the depression in the 1930s. (Academic Dictionary)

It is interesting that, according to Kondratieff’s observations, cycles consist of four phases. In their turn, Kondratieff cycles themselves are part of another four.

Economic cycles:

Kitchin cycle 2-3 years;

Juglar cycle 6-13 years;

Kuznets cycle 15-20 years;

Kondratieff cycle 50-60 years.

By the way, let’s recall that we talked about the four phases of development in Chapter 2.

We need to say the following with respect to the cycles. The point is not in what order and how economic crises pass. The problem is that even the most thorough study of the crisis brought us no closer to an understanding of their causes. Why do we need to know when the next crisis comes? It is better that it didn’t happen at all.

“A clever person solves a problem. A wise person avoids it.” (Albert Einstein)

The fact is that the causes of the crises are in the incorrect relationship between people, Abraham once said. Today, we are finally starting to understand it.

We do not develop harmoniously and our spiritual development is so behind that we are the victims of an avalanche of technological growth. We cannot emerge from this stream, even if we wanted to.

As a result, when humanity had a need for a new energy for technological development, when it discovered this energy, then morally it was not ready to use it to its advantage.

Then, in terms of historical development, we began to distrust each other so much, not to believe that we could help each other (although everything was done in order to survive together) that each of us personally, in fact, does not participate in public life. (Andrei A. Tarkovsky, Russian filmmaker, writer, film editor, film theorist, theatre and opera director)

We do not know how to solve this problem. Abraham solved this problem.

“He (Abraham) managed to create a great nation of the progeny. Unified, despite all the changes of places and vicissitudes.” (Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, German writer and statesman).
