People Are Ape-Men

laitman_423_01Opinion ( Prof. S. Savelyev ):  “What belongs to human substance is something that does not carry biological benefit. Money earned, buildings that we construct, propagation, these don’t belong to the human part. We have not succeeded in becoming human.

“We – are mammals that are very aggressive and unreasonable. Prized highly is adaptability, the ability to obtain food… The structure of society reflects the evolution of society, but not the results of the rational development of mankind.

“… The frontal lobes of the brain were formed to share food, with the entire environment. Rigid natural selection shaped us as social creatures with huge frontal lobes. This gave us the possibility to co-exist together without annihilating each other when hunger pangs appeared. But this selective process needs to continue for another 200 thousand years, so that this behavior will become a norm.

“At present, we are social animals that understand that theft is not good, but at the same time, it is necessary to steal! The frontal lobes only help us to try to exercise social behavior, but in the meantime we are half animal, requiring hierarchical management. We are going to dominate and force our way with money. Man, like beasts, demands totalitarianism.

“In the public eye, every one of us is a democrat and a humanist, but in secret we are reminiscent of a troop of baboons. The behavior of a group of young people, who rob occasional passersby, is identical to a group of nations that perform acts of conquest and dominance.

“The natural state of a monkey is laziness, deceit, adultery with the wife of a neighbor, theft, and inconsiderate activities. For people this is forbidden and they are compelled to balance between the characteristics of the beast and the human in them.

“All self-organization is of biological design. An example of this could be the Mafia or organizations established among prisoners in prisons. The creation of a hierarchy is a sign of the behavior of primates. Specifically due to biological characteristics, it is easier to build a totalitarian nation than a democratic one.

“A democratic regime requires people who think identically and know how to be honest. Without scientific cerebral sorting it is impossible to choose people like these, for even among ‘real’ democrats there are thieves who steal. Perhaps society should stop hiding the mutual attitudes and goals of baboons?”

My Comment: The whole purpose of the wisdom of Kabbalah is to make us apes into humans! It brings us to unity instead of confrontation, a circle instead of hierarchy, love of others instead of hatred, equal distribution instead of theft, giving instead of conquest, and in general behaving according to the law of a unified society. Otherwise, we remain baboons, and our lag in development will turn against us, and the power of suffering will force us to become human.

Competition: Two Sides Of The Same Coin

laitman_546_02Question: How does the wisdom of Kabbalah relate to competition?

Answer: According to the wisdom of Kabbalah, competition is very important. As it is said, “The envy of sages increases wisdom.” I believe that it is vital. What could we achieve if there were no competition? The great inventors, Nicola Tesla and Thomas Edison, for example, made great discoveries in the field of electrical engineering and invented the dynamo generators, devices operating on alternating current, etc.

Interestingly, many great discoveries that have been very beneficial for mankind stemmed from childish competition and the desire not to let others be ahead of you. At the same time, scientists are not really interested in money but want to determine their self: “I will prove that I am better.”

It is impossible to succeed without competition. Real competition always leads to the emergence of a new attribute.

Competition is very beneficial, even for children.

However, everything must be within the normal egoistic limits that we understand: “I wish to learn from others.” To learn from others means to be like them. However, to be like them means to compete against yourself in order to reach a certain level.

Therefore, there are two types of competition. It can be competition that motivates and competition that kills. There is always the element of envy in it, but the question is whether I wish to crush my competitor or whether, thanks to his example, I want to be like him or even greater. This is the reason that there are both positive and negative aspects to competition.

Competition As An Engine For Social Development

laitman_547_06Question: For an ordinary person success means family, an orderly life, financial security, safety, or in short, everything that is attained through competition. But he has already grown tired of this chase. How can he reach a simple normal life that he can consider successful?

Answer: It is becoming very simple in our world. If we are speaking about a corporeal body, we have to provide it with healthcare, a pension, and a good environment. But one person cannot achieve success that way. It is attained by society, by all its members together. This is the reason that a person has to create an environment that will provide him with healthcare and a stable life, with everything that he needs.

Question: But in our society success is attained through competition. Can it be attained differently?

Answer: In our society success is attained through competition because our egoism has two directions. One is to dominate others and to be above them, which puts a person under great stress and leads to great waste of energy and constant pressures. The other direction is the attraction of the corporeal body (the same egoism) to complete rest. These two opposites exist in us and make competition a necessity. It awakens us and forces us to work hard.

What is more, the conditions of competition can be very different: the competitor can be my rival or my colleague. I am basically for competition when it comes to good deeds, when a person struggles to do something for the sake of society.

Back To Nature

Laitman_707Question: Over the last couple of years the tendency to return to nature has become very popular, including consuming fewer modern, artificial things. This pertains to medicine as well, where naturopathy and homeopathy are gaining popularity over traditional treatment with chemical drugs.

People prefer natural products without chemical fertilizers, natural birth without using pain medication. Why is it that more and more people feel a need to go back to nature?

Answer: In the past, people received food and medicinal resources from the environment, using various plants, animals, and natural gifts from the forest. And today too there are people who know how to use these things. People were closer to nature, which was not as polluted as today.

Before we invented the combustion engine, which works with diesel or gas, we did not poison the environment. Our food was free of chemicals because they were natural. People ate chicken and fish raised in natural conditions. But in recent years the situation has changed drastically.

In the past, doctors used natural medicines. Once while traveling through Canada, I visited an old village, maintained as a museum-reservation. And there was a point of interest: a village doctor’s home. And around it agricultural lands, where he grew medicinal plants, which he dried in the house.

It was evident that it was a real production. Usually a doctor was a very wealthy person because he was needed by everyone. And the doctor truly knew how to cure. Otherwise no one would call on him. Each village had its own infirmary run by those who had the knowledge and the profession was passed from one generation to the next. All medicines were taken from nature.

We see that animals cure themselves with plants. As a dog owner takes his dog outside, the dog immediately begins to search for plants to consume. It feels what plant is necessary for its body. Similarly, our bodies are also animals, and it is a true pity that we have become so distant from natural medicinal methods.

However, a modern person does not know how to treat himself with plants. And it’s impossible to imagine all the inhabitants of a city with a population of many millions would travel to a forest in search of medicinal plants for their treatment.

Certainly the technological process cannot be reversed. However, after all our hopes for the associated prosperity and happy future, we suddenly begin to doubt that this development has been to our benefit. We see many negative consequences, although we try to ignore them or think they are inevitable.

Our entire development (in technology, medicine, family life, education, etc.) has passed a certain peak, and although we assumed that we would only rise higher and higher, we began to decline. We do not maintain balance by moving in the middle line, but instead we lean to one side and lost our balance.

Perhaps we need to rethink our attitude and choose the middle line so that we don’t throw away the natural methods of treatment and completely switch to chemicals.

The Charismatic Leader And The Public Good

laitman_263Question: Who can influence others?

Answer: There are people who have a great influence over others. It comes from the root of their soul. They are born leaders with a special charisma.  And it is very important for their influence to be positive.

We must educate people so that those leaders who succeed in integral education could lead the masses even with the little charisma that they have.
But charisma alone is not enough because it can be a negative sign, as with Hitler. Therefore, we first should correct the person and only then help him become charismatic.

Charisma will appear in precisely from realizing the greatness of the goal and that one can give humanity the knowledge accumulated through those special properties.

But if a person isn’t properly educated, he may become harmful to everyone. Thus, charismatic people who want to be leaders, but do not wish to be part of the integral education system and go through correction, are a big problem!

Correction means seeing oneself working more for the benefit of society more and more. When a person understands the importance of his participation in the common system, then he begins to lead.

Why Do We Need Altruism?

laitman_546_02Opinion: (Dmitry Leikin): “Individualism prospers in the modern world. The idea of living for yourself is so strong that you have to explain the fact that you do something for others.

“The point is that every person has a certain amount of power (energy), which he can spend on different activities.

“At the same time he has certain personal needs that he can fulfill through different activities. The need for altruism stems from the fact that a person has more energy than he needs in order to care for his own personal needs.

“This means that if we look at a person’s personal needs we will discover that they aren’t so many: he actually needs food, clothing, a home and a little bit of entertainment. All the other needs are actually collective needs, which means that you do something egoistically not for yourself but for others.

“But a modern man is left with far more altruistic powers than his ancestors. This means that modern man needs altruism more than the generations that preceded him.

“This is expressed in the form of laziness, depression and loss of motivation. This means that modern man realizes that he doesn’t know what he should do after the quick satisfaction of his personal needs. Because he has been brought up to live only for himself, he doesn’t know how to keep himself busy and eventually doesn’t do anything and complains about his loss of motivation.

“If he begins to do something for others his motivation will reappear and will turn out to be infinite since he can do something for others infinitely. This means that he can totally invest his efforts in such actions, which is actually what a person needs in order to be happy -to invest all his energy in something.

“If we look at people who do great things, we will see that all these things are always aimed at great masses of people. These people never complain about lack of motivation, but they may complain that they life isn’t long enough to fulfill everything they plan to do.

“The only way to be happy and to have the motivation to do anything is to do something not only for yourself but also for others. The reason is that you can have great motivation and self-fulfillment only in doing things for others.”

My Comment: Then egoistic psychology (motivation) gradually switches into the wisdom of Kabbalah because the egoistic motivation of working for the sake of others also becomes empty and there is a growing need for new motivation, for the Creator, because the Creator is infinite. A person who performs such actions feels that these actions are eternal and that the filling is infinite.

How Can We Establish A Better Society?

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News: (karpochoff.com): “When a baby is born there are 100 billion neurons in his brain. Neurons are the cells responsible for the ability to think, to see, to feel and they are hardly regenerated during our life.

“Neurons can connect with one another through small regions in the brain called synapses. The neurons that are connected in the synapses build systems that are responsible for all of the brain activities. During the first eight months of our life the neurons create up to 1,000 trillion synapses. But the synapses operate according to the principle of ‘you either use it or lose it.’

“The connections between the neurons have to be maintained by daily exercises and stimuli so that they will be active for a long time. This is the reason that communication between parents and a baby is so important. Usually only half of the synapses remain. The simplest form of communication with a baby can actually determine the creation of connections in the brain.

“Human babies are born imperfect compared to other mammals and they need about a year in order to start walking, whereas animals begin to walk several hours after they are born. If man babies were born with a similarly developed brain, their head would be too big and it would not be able to go through the birth canal.

“This means that the development of a baby’s brain depends directly on the environment he is born in and especially within his social environment. A human baby isn’t fully formed: he comes into the world ready for the grownups to program it. The synapses that are often used become strong while synapses that are rarely used die.

“If parents look at the baby with love and affection the baby’s brain associates the loving and affectionate look with the parents’ attention and the synapses related to this lesson become stronger. The brain is built on this basis. The frontal cortex is one of the regions responsible for feelings and this region develops the fastest from a child’s birth to the age of three.

“A less developed frontal cortex means that a person finds it hard to identify other people’s feelings. This leads to lack of empathy, which is one of the reasons for violence and that under stress a person behaves aggressively or capriciously.”

My Comment: Everything is determined by education, but who educates the parents? Who teaches them how to establish the right connections between them, with the children… see “The Wisdom of Connection (Integral Education).”

The Origin Of A Person’s Thoughts

Quote: “The greatest mistake of individual psychology is the premise that a person thinks…

“It isn’t the person who actually thinks but his social group. The origin of his thoughts isn’t in him but actually in the social environment he lives in, in the social atmosphere he breathes. This is the only way he can think according to the influences of the social environment he lives in which are concentrated in his mind.”

The Screen People

Dr. Michael LaitmanOpinion (Radah Granovskaya, PhD, professor, Russian Center of Emergency and Radiation Medicine): “Today, young people perceive greater amounts of new material more quickly. They don’t read books and the speed in which changes occur around them is 50 times greater today and with different ways of processing the information.

Children view the world differently. Their perception isn’t consecutive or sequential and not in the form of text. They see a whole picture, perceive information according to the principle of a ‘clip’ and they only need the general picture.

“Clip psychology also works in school and the textbooks are not really books anymore. Students read just a small section of a text and a week later another section. Thus they read many different small sections from different textbooks. This means that school actually offers them clips.

“There are, of course, kids who still think in a consecutive, sequential manner and who need various forms of information. It is isn’t by chance that people who still belong to this old school thinking are called the book people, while the people who belong to the new form of thinking are called the screen people.

“Fifty years ago, a machine was made of 500 parts and it took a real expert to find specific parts that were needed in order to repair it. Today things are made in groups of components and a whole component is replaced when needed. Therefore, there is no need for the old skills of yesterday. This is why the level of our skills and expertise has dropped People with a clip orientation cannot analyze and clarify things in a deep, logical manner and cannot solve serious problems.

“Very few wealthy professionals educate their children in classical music, various sports, thus leaving the computer out. This means that they bring them up according to the old principles that shape their thinking into consecutive, sequential thinking and not clip thinking. It is actually live and direct communication that provides something that is irreplaceable.

“My advice to university lecturers is to not to recommend books to their students, but rather assign only a chapter from a book and even better, a certain paragraph. Salespeople in bookstores have noticed that people rarely buy thick books that have more than 300 pages and that they don’t even look through them. People prefer to engage in other forms of entertainment other than reading.

“Clip thinking is the inevitable outcome of modern society and the direction in which civilization is developing, but those who follow the path of clip thinking will never become the elite. This is how social stratification takes place. Therefore, those who allow their children to sit in front of the computer screen for hours don’t prepare them for a brighter future.”

My Comment: In general, our future lies in penetrating into nature’s operating system, about which the wisdom of Kabbalah tells us. The educational system is closer to the traditional approach, leading a person deeper into the world of inner scrutiny, above his nature, keeping him away from clip thinking. A Kabbalist has to acquire this form of thinking so that he will be able to sum up this system in a short, concise manner. It is in this manner that the public will hear how to implement the wisdom of Kabbalah in order to discover the system on their level.

The Separation Of Boys And Girls In School

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (rg.ru):  “The separation of boys and girls in school leads to greater academic success than when they study in mixed classes.

“Students do not feel embarrassed and are not distracted by the other sex, which means that they can better concentrate on their studies. …

“Even knowing the answer, girls will be silent and wait until someone responds. In general classes, boys raise their hands first to answer the teacher’s questions.

“In women’s classes: everyone knew the answer, but said nothing because they were afraid to make a mistake. The teacher felt like she was in an empty classroom.  But if the students are praised, next time they will respond actively. A girl should be commended, even if she was wrong, or else the next time she will again remain silent. Interestingly, a boy does not understand this approach, and will spend a long time thinking about why he was noted for giving the incorrect answer

“Girls are calm and never shout. … In mixed classes, teachers yell more than in single sex classrooms. In a single sex classroom, there were fewer disciplinary problems in boys’ classes and they responded more calmly to the teacher’s remarks. In mixed classes, the boys tended to argue more with the teacher in order to show off in front of the girls.

“The great advantage of single sex classes is that the children are not distracted and thus better learn the material. With single sex classrooms in ordinary schools, there are very few drawbacks.”

My Comment: I think that children should study in single sex classrooms. Moreover, I believe that male teachers should teach boys and female teachers should teach girls. That’s the way it has been throughout history and I maintain that we should return to that. In my opinion, humanity will return to that after it learns from all the studies, experiments, and mistakes.
