My Response: Based on the science of Kabbalah, one can absolutely clearly understand that a person can come from internal to external balance, and vice versa by correct external interaction with others one can bring oneself to inner peace and balance.

Question: So, age is not a hindrance here?

Answer: Age is not a hindrance at all. Absolutely not! It all depends only on how a person perceives himself and the world around him. The soul is immortal, and therefore the body should not have control over us.

Question: A letter from Svetlana Alexandrova: “It is nice to listen to you, but you always rely on the Creator to solve everything, and on a combination of circumstances. Only some people have a wonderful life, and others do not. Who decides who and how I should live? This is unclear. It is very difficult to accept that some Creator is favorable to some but not to others. What should we do with this? Why does the Creator decide this way?”

Answer: It depends on the root of a person’s soul; it does not even depend on the Creator. The Creator does not choose whom to be friendly with and whom to punish, and whom, on the contrary, to elevate. There is no such thing. It all depends only on the state in which the total sum of souls is, how they interact with each other.

Here everyone has their own destiny. But this fate, in general, is predetermined, and no one here has any distortion, some kind of favor, a special state better or worst in relation to others. None of this exists. It all depends on the person himself.

Question: So, you are saying that every person, everyone, has their own root of the soul in the common soul? Is it on this string that he should rise to the common root?

Answer: This is not a string, but a path to climb a mountain on all fours, fall, rollback, and climb again.

This is all predetermined except for how a person will perceive this path of ascent.

The more we think and strive for connection and convince the Creator to help us, the faster we accelerate our development to a good state. We do not have anything else.

The Spiritual Basis of Man

The attainment of the Creator is originally embedded in the soul. A person yearns not for comprehending itself in life, but for attaining the root of life, the Creator.

There is a record of spiritual information inside us called Reshimo, which is revealed from time to time and demands its fulfillment. This is man’s spiritual basis. This is the reason we feel the urge to know everything: Who am I? What am I living for? Where am I headed, etc.?

A person cannot remain indifferent to these questions because if he does, then who is he and what is he living for? It is very important for him to discover his origin and destiny, at least the starting and ending point of his earthly existence. Otherwise, we simply live as beasts and even worse than beasts because they do not have all these questions.

The question is how to realize our internal impulses and find answers to them.

Here, the wisdom of Kabbalah comes to our aid and explains everything very clearly. Later, if we wish to achieve revelation, we have to make serious efforts.

That is, it feels itself as an emanated being. All its events aim toward it, and this is the deficiency that it feels— that it will be able to attain its emanator.

The higher the soul, the more strongly it yearns for that.

Even from the people who come to us to study one can see how strong, stable, and consistent their yearning is or, on the other hand, how inconsistent they are and can easily leave everything and go. This is the first point.

Second, a person is tested by being given all kinds of obstacles in life and he shows to himself and to the upper forces that develop him the extent to which he is ready to stay on track, to keep developing, and has no intention of giving in to or to follow any corporeal interruptions.

The Need to Attain the Creator

We must still know the lack that the intellectual soul feels. Let me tell you that it is the need to attain its emanator, for it is engraved in its nature to crave to know its emanator and creator, since it feels its own existence. That is, it has been prepared by default to search what is above. (Baal HaSulam, A Sage’s Fruit Volume 2, “From My Flesh I Shall See God”)

In other words, “The mind desires to attain the Creator, because this aspiration is imprinted in its nature. ” (Michael Laitman, “I Will Know the Creator from Within Myself,” a modification of Baal HaSulam’s “From My Flesh I Shall See God”)

In each of us there is the desire to attain the source of life: why we are born, what determines our birth, our attributes, our path in this world and beyond, and how we continue our existence, in what form.

This information is imprinted in our nature and this is the reason we want to know it. All our internal forces push us to attain it because it is very hard to live without knowing where we come from, what we are living for, and what we aspire to.

In this respect, human beings in our world are much more miserable than animals, because animals have no such thoughts and don’t undergo such states. They exist without asking any questions. This is also how small kids live without wondering about the meaning of life.

This question usually emerges when a person is six to seven years old. Try to remember how each of you asked yourself about the meaning of life, especially during your youth: where did I come from? How did I get here? How did I develop? How did I end up in this world? What is happening to me and for what purpose?

All these questions torment a person until he reaches puberty and then hormones finish him off. He begins to aspire to have an active sex life, to get married, to try to learn a profession, to have a career, etc. Totally different problems come up in his life  so the questions about the meaning of life are gradually forgotten.

Yet, the desire to discover who I am, why, and what is happening to me do come up, but life doesn’t allow them to develop. Eventually, we end our life tired and old without having achieved anything.

We simply need to understand that if we are given a desire to attain the Creator, it basically covers everything and leads us forward.

It cannot be said that this lack is not defined in attaining its emanator, but that it rather pursues all the secrets and wishes to know about supernatural things and incarnations, and about what is in one’s friend’s heart, and so forth. (Baal HaSulam, “From My Flesh I Shall See God”)

Question: Does the pace of the development of the soul and its ascent to the spiritual world depend on my previous lives?

Answer: Everything depends on everything. If a certain individual, a certain soul, in this world advances or goes back a little, it is reflected in everyone, and it is the same when a soul ascends.

We all totally depend on each other, and our previous states and future states are an integral picture that we need to understand and to fulfill.

Question: The connection between spiritual and corporeal lives is a very complicated matter. If we take only spirituality, the states replace each other, of course, and it is possible to live many lives in one day.

In our corporeal lives, we see that people are born and die. This is seemingly a different system. So, are they related in any way?

Answer: The life and death of the body are simply states on the corporeal level. Now I feel a close connection to my corporeal body and it is very dear to me because it seems to me that I feel life through it.

But in fact, it is an absolute illusion. There is nothing in this body for me. I feel pain and pleasure through it, but only on the corporeal level. It has nothing to do with the soul. We will all live in this body for a while and will part from it when the time comes.

Comment: They say that now people can develop a condition called skin hunger or touch starvation. Especially in these times many people suffer from this, even unconsciously.

According to experts, we feel touch starvation when there is an imbalance between the number of desired touches and the amount that we actually receive. This is very similar to the usual feeling of hunger. In this sense, even touching a dog, a cat, or another animal already satisfies the hunger.

Therefore, most of the animals in shelters have been adopted in America. Large numbers of people come to pick up abandoned cats and dogs. There is such a trend in the world today: I want to have something warm next to me, and I will give my warmth to it. What do you think about this trend?

My response: Of course, when I cannot touch a person in a human way, at least I want to touch an animal in an animalistic way.

Question: But this is good, right? At least you give warmth to someone.

Answer: I cannot imagine these external, tactile contacts that replace the internal inclination and contact of hearts. There is no substitute for that. If there is an internal contact, then distances do not interfere with it and the body does not matter at all here.

Let’s say you have a dog and you play with it. I have nothing against that, but this is not what we should really experience.

Question: Only people can connect their hearts?

Answer: Yes. And not physically, and not tactilely.

Question: How can we connect hearts?

Answer: In aspiration. When you feel that you are aspiring for others and get the same response from them. Then you feel that one heart and the second heart have really opened and a common space appears between them. In this common space you can already feel love, understanding, mutuality, and feeling.

Question: Does this also happen because of hunger?

Answer: Of course, certainly, everything happens because of hunger.

Question: What is this appetite that attracts one heart to the other?

Answer: Lack of vital forces, not animalistic, but spiritual ones. I can feel them only if I connect with another person in this way.

Question: That is, the person says: “I have no strength.” Despite the fact that he has food and money, he says that he does not have the strength to live. Does this mean that he is looking for another heart?

Answer: Yes! He unconsciously feels that he has no one to live for! Life is still built on the fact that you give birth, reproduce, educate, give, and feel the same from others. This mutual fulfillment of each other is life. It is impossible to give to someone without receiving.

Question: Are these times coming?

Question: What is the connection between knowing about the upper world and the development of the soul? Why does the information that we acquire about the structure of the soul develop our soul?

Answer: It is because spiritual knowledge is an indication that I receive the upper light that changes me. It is not like what I hear from a teacher at school or at university, because what I hear from a teacher cannot impact me in any way.

The Power of Childish Thinking 

One of the most tenacious myths about how Einstein discovered is that he relied on adopting a naive, simple mode of thinking. This mode authorized Einstein to discount and ignore all the difficult technicalities of the existing literature, whose distracting complexities, we are to suppose, block progress. The way ahead is to adopt the mode of a precocious child asking childish questions. Einstein himself seems to have advanced this myth in part through self-deprecating remarks. Here is how one such remark is related, third-hand, by one of Einstein’s biographers: One of Einstein’s typical remarks was reported to me from Falmouth, Massachusetts by James Franck … 

‘‘When I asked myself,’’ Einstein said to Franck, ‘‘how it happened that I in particular discovered the relativity theory, it seemed to lie in the following circumstance. The normal adult never bothers his head about space-time problems. Everything there is to be thought about it, in his opinion, has already been done in early childhood. I, on the contrary, developed so slowly that I only began to wonder about space and time when I was already grown up. In consequence I probed deeper into the problem than an ordinary child would have done (John D. Norton, How Einstein Did Not Discover).

This is correct. You don’t have to make yourself ignorant, you have to be naive.

Question: How do you erase knowledge that already exists in you? The knowledge exists and somehow I have to take it and remove it in this moment, as if I don’t know?

Answer: I don’t know anything. Actually! I say this absolutely frankly. I feel empty anew every minute.

Question: Why? You have been studying the science of Kabbalah for 40 years.

Answer: This is such a science that it denies itself. It crosses out everything you knew before so that you can take the next step. But the next step is not after the previous one, but instead of the previous one. They don’t add up together. In the spiritual, everything is built on denial.

Question: So I go and go, I am at some stage, and suddenly it completely disappears?

Answer: I start all over again. It’s fine! In fact, this is most correct. It is like I’m being reborn. Doesn’t the child open his eyes even wider?

I don’t feel tired. I am ready every day, every lesson, every morning to start all over again, to be reborn.

Joy comes from the Creator, so he rejoices for them that they receive pleasure from the Creator. They do not curse Him at this time. Therefore, this place must be respected.
