“Is The Spiritual World Real?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: Is the spiritual world real?

Over the past 3,500 years, a few hundred books have been written about the spiritual world by great kabbalists who investigated and discovered it.

In these books, you will find out how you need to change yourself so that you can perceive and sense the spiritual world, learn how to expand it, and penetrate deeper into it.

The wisdom of Kabbalah teaches us how to open our mind and heart in order to perceive the spiritual world. It is akin to looking at a stereogram, where we need to defocus our vision in order to see the hidden image. When we concentrate on the picture, then it seems as if there is nothing other than the lines. However, in an instant, the moment we defocus and disperse our vision, a three-dimensional picture appears.

The wisdom of Kabbalah teaches us how to defocus and disperse all of our five senses in order to refocus ourselves on a more inner level of reality. We then come into contact with a picture of the world that is beyond the boundaries that currently limit it, and enter into the perception and sensation of the spiritual world.

The spiritual world that we come to perceive is inexplicable to anyone who has yet to attain it. All someone who has attained it can do is teach—according to the texts and the method left by kabbalists—how to defocus ourselves on the corporeal world and refocus ourselves on the spiritual world. If we apply ourselves to such a method, then we will enter the perception and sensation of the spiritual world.

The spiritual world divides into five spiritual worlds, which have the names Adam Kadmon, Atzilut, Beria, Yetzira and Assiya. Our corporeal world is below the spiritual worlds, and it does not count among them. The five spiritual worlds are composed of 125 levels. They are omnipresent, but we cannot feel or see them with our inborn senses. We can, however, direct ourselves at revealing them, and by doing so, receive their influence.

The key difference between our corporeal world and the spiritual world is that we perceive egoistically in our world, and the spiritual world operates by altruistic laws. Ultimately, our purpose while in this world is to discover the spiritual world, to defocus ourselves on our egoistic approaches to life and refocus ourselves on the altruistic laws that are opposite our world. Thus, the essence of the transformation we undergo in discovering the spiritual world is a shift from egoism to altruism, receiving to giving, division to unity, self-concern to concern about others, and hatred to love.

Accordingly, the commandment “Love your friend as yourself” (Leviticus 19:18) does not merely describe the need to hold pleasant relations among each other in this world. Rather, it is the general law of the spiritual world. If we want to feel it, then we need to try and practice such an attitude toward the world, and this is easier said than done. In fact, it is only possible if we enter into a supportive environment of like-minded people who share a common yearning to discover the spiritual world, and who are willing to apply themselves to such a law.

Therefore, the key to defocusing our perception and sensation on our corporeal world and refocusing it on the omnipresent spiritual world is to gather ourselves into a supportive environment of like-minded people who wish to exercise positive attitudes to each other in order to attain the spiritual world. Over time, we will then find that a seeming fog lifts from around us, and a new hidden world appears more and more.

The entire method of Kabbalah guides our transformation from living in this corporeal world alone to perceiving and sensing the spiritual world. At the same time, no kabbalist can describe the spiritual world to someone who has not attained it because such a person lacks the inner model to perceive or even imagine the spiritual objects and phenomena described. In our world, we are born with models that make it possible to feel the spiritual world. They are, however, incomplete, but we can apply ourselves to their attainment. For instance, newly-born babies do not instantly see, but gradually start seeing. Such models formulate gradually in us as our senses develop. This is the reason for the word “Kabbalah” extending from the word “Lekabel” (“to receive”), i.e., through applying ourselves to its methodology, we gradually receive the perception and sensation of the spiritual world.

The Mystery Of The Unification Of The Masculine And Feminine, Part 1

595.01The Mystery of Nature

From the only source, which is the Creator, two forces descend. One of them is the power that relates to Him: the property of bestowal, love, emanation.

The other is an artificial force created by the Creator that did not exist before the beginning of creation —the property of receiving, absorbing, which then became an egoistic property.

Both forces exist in the entire nature of the upper worlds and in our world as a plus and a minus. They are created opposite to each other so that we, who represent the property of receiving, the negative egoistic force, can use our properties to determine the opposite positive force, the Creator, and create certain interactions with it, unification, as in an atom.

One force does not exist separately from another. We always measure, see, feel, and find them in some sort of positioning relative to each other.

Therefore, the negative force in which the Creator created us is necessary precisely in order for us to find, define, and feel Him as a positive, emanating force, and thus be able to begin contact with Him, to detect, define, feel, approach or move away from Him.

In other words, to see what state we are in with respect to the Creator to determine the possibility of absorbing His properties into ourselves.

How can we make ourselves negative to Him as if we are both negative and positive? This is a very difficult question, and even more so its solution.

This is not just the disclosure of the mystery of the unity of minus and plus, the Creator and creation, but the disclosure of how creation develops, reaches its completely opposite state to the Creator, and begins to feel this state as absolutely harmful, unsuitable, and intolerable, and then does everything in order to ascend above it and start to create something positive from your negative self.

How is this possible? After all, creation cannot change its nature in any way. It turns out that it can only change the application of its nature. That is, although I am created completely negative, I can transform even my negative properties, motivations, and actions so that their final result is positive. And how to do it is really a mystery.

We cannot imagine it, that is why we say that this is a secret. We are absolutely not yet in it, but we are in our egoistic negative properties.

“What Is Hate?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: What is hate?

Hatred is everything that doesn’t benefit me.

While it is a negative quality, it has a positive aspect because with its help, we can check what we need to change in ourselves. We are surrounded by a humanity, a world and a nature that we need to treat with absolute love. If we relate to anyone or anything out of hate, it means that we lack balance with nature: to be as loving, giving, caring and kind as nature.

True hate surfaces as we head toward love. If we wish to progress to become as loving as is the quality of nature, then we find how hateful we are toward others. Through such a revelation, we receive clarity on what we need to correct within ourselves in order to reach a state of love.

The more humanity develops, the more we see expressions of growing hatred. Hate is a natural and easy release of our inner human nature, and the explosions we see from vitriol all throughout mass and social media, and events such as mass shootings, are all expressions of this hatred surfacing more and more. In all these cases, only our negative qualities manifest, since we have yet to acquire nature’s positive qualities in addition to our inborn egoism, and we thus seek only to use others for self-benefit.

Our egoistic human nature is behind all of our hatred, and we need to correct it so that it will invert to love. We can undergo this needed hate-to-love transformation with the help of connection-enriching education—which teaches how to connect above our hateful and divisive drives—and the positive force of nature that we discover through such education.

What Is The Foundation Of The World?

209The Book of Zohar, VaYetze, Item 13: King Solomon established his book on seven Havalim [“Hevel” means breath vapor, as well as vanity, futility] on which the world stands. These are the pillars and ledges that form the existence of the world, and this is why they are called Havalim.

Hevel (vanity) is the foundation of the world. From the translation, it follows that everything only operates on vanity. This is not quite true.

Hevel is what comes out of the mouth. Not even breathing but sound—everything that a person seems to let out of himself with his inner breath.

In a spiritual object, such an exit from inside out is the power of bestowal, the power of going out of oneself, the desire to share with another, the desire to love another, to connect with him with his aspirations and fill him like a mother fills a child. It is precisely upon this desire, the love of one for another, that the whole world can exist.

On the other hand, Hevel can mean vanity, i.e., all unnecessary, husk, garbage.

Question: Then what should we do? How to relate to this word?

Answer: It is necessary to translate the Torah correctly with a Kabbalistic meaning because it speaks about the inner matter of humanity, about its desires, about its connection, and its rise to the level of the Creator.

Therefore, if you translate just like that, in our everyday connotation, then the translation will have the opposite meaning.

Delight The Creatures

289The Creator’s desire is to delight the creatures. This desire is spread everywhere in the universe. In the space that the Creator has allocated. He created a space, a place, filled it with Himself, and began to create within Himself creations that were opposite of Him so that each creation would attain Him and become completely like Him, since there is no greater perfection than His personal state.

Question: Is this the only truly analog system that covers absolutely everything?

Answer: Yes. But we do not attain it in an analog way, but in discrete step-by-step rapprochement, all the time breaking it up into many parts.

Connect To The” Common Computer ” Of The Universe

763.1Question: At the subconscious level, we process large amounts of information with our conceptual mathematical apparatus. If we consider the individual and collective levels, then the question arises, is there such a mathematical apparatus for describing the spiritual structures that are the roots of our consciousness?

Answer: Naturally. If one is in egoism, why can’t one be the opposite of it? Exactly the same but a mirror image.

That is, if I use the spiritual properties of bestowal, then I clearly act, know why, how, for what purpose, and with which forces. In general, in the development of spiritual space, I use everything that works in our world, but in the opposite form.

Question: Shouldn’t this mathematical apparatus be more extended?

Answer: Indeed, its power is greater because it is not associated with personal data, problems, goals, or limitations, but only with my ability to rise above myself. When, with the help of the higher energy, the upper light, I can pretend to be something that gives, then I join the “common computer.”

In our world, I have to create something. In the spiritual world, I don’t have to create anything. I only need to adjust myself so that I am like the spiritual space in which we exist, only for as long as it is hidden from us. Then, as they say, the entire “computer” will be in front of me.

Depending on which qualities I choose from within myself, above my egoism, to that extent and in that style, I enter this spiritual computer, this spiritual field. On the one hand, it behaves discretely and digitally and, on the other hand, with analog signals. So, here, we are faced with both.

The Goal Provided By Nature

255Question: Was the entire development of humanity only to come to an understanding of the collapse of egoistic development?

Answer: This goal is foreseen by nature. It is described in The Book of the Zohar to the smallest consequences up to our time and even further.

Question: Why did humanity need the path of suffering?

Answer: We need to be aware of our state of impasse, our wrong behavior, and all the bumps we have felt so that then we have something to fix.

It is from the realization of evil and its gradual, consistent correction that we will begin to understand the program of nature. We must definitely see that in this I was wrong, in this I went wrong. We will remember the entire history of mankind—how we gnawed, killed each other, fought, divorced, got together, died, lived, and corrected it because it was egotistically wrong.

Correcting it now, in ourselves, we should not go back thousands of years. Everything will happen very quickly, within months. But it is by feeling, realizing, and correcting our various past problems and mistakes, which we have accumulated throughout the entire development of civilization, that we come to know the upper layer of nature, the upper governance.

Why did it negatively affect us? It is according to our negative behavior. And if I change this behavior to a positive one, how will it affect me? In practice, I follow the same program, only I correct it.

Calling Up The Creator

934Question: Suppose I asked the teacher to call the Creator and the teacher responded that the Creator is expecting my call. How based on this can we arrange a permanent, constant connection that includes everyone?

Answer: If you are connected in a ten, you can call upon the Creator. Imagine that you can reach the Creator only if together you dial His number, which consists of ten digits.

You reach the Creator and He answers all of you at once. If one of you drops the connection, then a certain digit is missing and the connection with the Creator is cut off. That is the way it works.
