Know of a certainty that the Lord your God will not drive these nations out from before you, anymore; and they will be a snare and an obstacle to you, and a goad in your sides and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from this good land, which the Lord your God has given you. (The Prophets, the Book of Joshua, 23:13)

“They will be a snare and an obstacle to you, and a goad in your sides and thorns in your eyes” means that if we try to correct egoistic desires that cannot yet be worked with, we will find ourselves in their trap.

Then the body will suffer, the vision will suffer, and you will not see how you are wrong. You will work with these desires in such a way that you will not be able to approach the Creator.

It is about sorting desires at different levels, meaning how we can work with ever-increasing egoistic desires that constantly arise in us and correct them with the intention to bestow, to love others.

Question: Now, when Jews live in the land of Israel, and the Arab people live next to us, what kind of relationship should there be between us?

Answer: Jews should do their own thing—correct themselves—and not touch anyone or anything until we, with our inner corrections, do so, so that the forces of nature will free us and everyone in the world will understand that this is the Creator.

He is one, the only one for all, and it is in this way that He must be revealed in fusion between all and with Him.

Then we will be able to stop all clashes and outrages by working on ourselves. The spiritual and material must be balanced.

Prophets, Joshua, 23:1: And it was after many days, after the Lord had given rest to Israel from all their enemies round about, and Joshua was old and come along in years.

“The Lord had given rest to Israel from all their enemies” means that He gave the people the strength to establish the intention to bestow above all egoistic desires that are our enemies.

“Joshua was old” means that almost all of his egoistic intentions turned into altruistic ones. It means that Joshua, who used to fight with himself and with others, became a wise old man. Although he fulfilled his mission, he continued to lead the people until the kings of Israel replaced him.

Question: Wisdom—is that  what he corrected?

Answer: Yes, that is wisdom, that is strength. But at the same time, his degree exhausted itself, and he must give way to others.

Comment: It is generally believed that Jews are not liked. But I recently heard the following reaction from one of the readers: “You might think that Jews love someone. Even in their sacred books, they do not recommend close communication with other nations. Go to any Jewish site and you can see a mixture of nationalist hysteria and praise of their own merits—both true and imaginary.”

My Response: Absolutely. Open the Shulchan Aruch (Code of Laws) and you will read there that you must stay away from other nations, deceive them, have nothing to do with them, and so on.

But we must understand that all these laws were written for our inner world where each person breaks himself into two parts. One part wants to correct itself and be called Yehudi, Jew— meaning uniting with the Creator—and ascend to the level of bestowal.

And in everyone, regardless of their earthly origin, there are egoistic properties that still need to be corrected and one should stay away from them, twist them around the finger, deceive them into correction. That is, we are talking about a person’s inner corrections.

In general, the entire Torah, the entire Jewish religion speaks only of this. And the fact that it is used in the literal sense and associated with earthly customs generated all misconceptions about it.

All primary sources speak only of the inner properties of a person: This in me is called Goy, this is Yehudi, this is Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, etc. And then it explains what I have to do with them: deceive, kill, raise, correct. But when this is transferred to the world around us, then everything takes a completely wrong form.

However, if a person reacts correctly, then he transfers everything to his internality. And so people slowly begin to understand: everything that they see shows only a person’s inner world.

And there is nothing to say about our external world. How can we fix something in it? Our world is completely ruled from above, and therefore, we must just exist in it to the minimum. And all corrections can be done only with the help of Kabbalah through the higher management system.

And he [Joshua] said to them, saying, “Return with much wealth to your dwellings, and with very much cattle, with silver, and with gold, and with copper, and with iron, and with very many garments; divide the spoil of your enemies with your brothers.” (The Prophets, the Book of Joshua, 22:8)

Joshua thanks for the devotion of the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and half of the tribe of Manasseh, who return to the land Bashan.

“Spoil” means that the corrected qualities they have acquired in the land of Israel must be expanded to the qualities that they will discover on the other side of the Jordan River. They have the opportunity to live anywhere in the world, meaning “in the desire,” not in the country or on earth.

These two and a half tribes are special in their structure and correction capabilities. Practically they have the same desires for correction and attainment of the Creator, only they have an additional burden: They continue to work with the egoistic desires from the land of Israel.

They corrected them within themselves with the help of others, together with the whole nation, and now they are going to correct them in new conditions. And the new conditions are, in general, uncomfortable. And they should be such in order to prepare the people of Israel to someday transition the actions of correction to the correct the whole world.

Question: So it is no wonder these two and a half tribes had to be the first to assimilate in the world?

Answer: Yes, they had a special mission. They immediately asked for this allotment, and Joshua told them: “Please, you feel that this is yours, then you shall receive this allotment but only after the nation conquers all of Israel.” That is, they take what has already been integrated in Israel and transfer it to work outside of Israel.

Here we see a very interesting phenomenon: the work of correcting desires inside the land of Israel, meaning inside the part of the soul of Israel, and outside of it, is different.

Question: What do the characteristics of the spoil mean: “cattle, silver, gold, copper, iron, clothes”? The corporeal meaning is clear, but what is the spiritual meaning?

Answer: We are talking about various desires that need to be corrected and brought to the point where they belong to someone who is able to use them only for bestowal.

This is why all desires manifest themselves. Otherwise, what would be the point of conquering anything? What kind of robbers are those who came out of Egypt and went to plunder the land where people lived peacefully, quietly and happily?! This is the turning over of our desires.

A person has no right to leave a correction without completing it totally. All those remaining desires that could not be corrected in the previous generation for some reason come to light in the last generation, and we are obliged to correct them.

Where are Joshua, Moses? Where are all the great leaders: Rabash, Baal HaSulam, the Ari and thousands more? They are not here. But everything is arranged exactly in such a way that the Messiah comes in a generation in which either all are the great ones or all are the lowest ones.

We fit the second definition, as it is said: “The face of a generation is like the muzzle of a dog.” But since we have come to this, since they are pushing us to this, then we will do it. I have no doubt about that.

Comment: It’s easier for you, you grabbed hold of it and that’s it, you went ahead!

My Response: No, you are wrong. First, I cannot show anyone to what extent I myself am nobody and nothing. On the contrary, I must demonstrate confidence, understanding, and openness.

If Moses, Joshua, all the prophets, and all the great Kabbalists behaved in this way in their states, then what is there to say about us! We need to do what we are given. And it doesn’t matter that maybe you’re not good at it. Be that as it may, you need to go forward: “I tried, and this is what I did.”

We need to try to do better, and how it works out, let it be as it may. Everything is in the hands of the Creator.

The Torah speaks only about the inner states of a person. Therefore, we need to rebuild our understanding of it.

A person should take all his desires and direct them to the Creator, that is, to bestowal and love, to connection between people and the Creator. This is our correction and “taking possession” of the land of Israel.

This is done gradually as we immerse ourselves in the attainment of the Creator and approach Him, and then it is considered that we are conquering the land of Israel—Yashar-El (Straight to the Creator).

Thus, Joshua guides the children of Israel and teaches them how to reach this stage. Therefore, there is a struggle, a confrontation with one’s own egoism. There are no external enemies here. All enemies are internal.

The prophets are Kabbalists who are in direct contact with the Creator, in communication with Him. They seem to be communicating with Him.

And people who are considered Israel strive to conquer the land of Israel so that the desire called “earth” (“Eretz,” from the word “Ratzon”) would be directed straight to the Creator (Yashar-El). This is their task.

Prophets, Joshua, 21:43: Not a thing was lacking from all the good things that the Lord spoke to the house of Israel; all came to pass.

The Creator promised the children of Israel that they would receive the land as an allotment if only He would be with them. Everything is in their hands. They are already settling on the land, turning all their desires (“land, Eretz”—from the word “Ratzon, Desire”) into bestowal, connection, and love.

Everyone cultivates the land, i.e., sits on his part of the desire. It cannot be otherwise because everyone received their part from the shattering of Adam, the common soul. Therefore, a person understands what to do, what to correct, and how to be connected with others to eventually come to one common desire, to a common system called Adam. Everything is on a schedule here.

The children of Israel know what they need to do. The Cohanim (Cohens, Priests) and Levites patiently explain all this to them, and then new steps are revealed to everyone.

Therefore, even though greater egoism is manifested, they successfully master the land, these broken desires.

Everything happens within a person. It is about fixing the connection between him and others.

Question: In what case does the Creator’s promise come true?

Answer: In every case: either by suffering or by diligent, serious work. Everyone is obliged to complete their lesson. But how do you do it? Either in a short and kind way or in a long way of suffering. But one way or another, you will still come to what is said.

Question: The two and a half tribes that went over the Jordan will later depart from the people and be the first to go into exile. Is it possible to foresee in advance where unity will be violated?

Answer: Of course: in the advancement toward the goal. What is happening in Israeli society today is an absolute disintegration because there is no advancement toward a single goal. Liberalism or so-called freedom is deadly for any nation, especially for the Jewish people.

Question: Was it possible to foresee in advance that this would happen?

Answer: Undoubtedly. You can say as much as you like that to have a lot of trends in society is contemporary, it is a sign of a developed society, and this is how it should be. However, this is not a developed society, but a developed, uncorrected, decaying egoism, and any of its actions divides the people into parts.

Question: Does it mean that when we just started building the country, it was already possible to say that this would be the case?

Answer: This country was created on the basis of war, and is governed only by war, including the war with each other. All members of the government are thinking about how to push each other aside. If it were not for the help from above, our country would have been gone for a long time.

Joshua Ben Nun says that the desires of Israel should be shaped in us.

“I will send them,” that is, “I will push, lead, support them on the steps of mastering the property of bestowal and love, and they will rise above their egoism.”

In spirituality, we distinguish states of lying, sitting, and getting up, which personify the small state (Katnut) and the large state (Gadlut). When a person sits, this is a small state, Katnut. When he gets up, this is already the middle state, that is, he can be associated with others but only with the properties of bestowal. And the large state is when he can be associated with other properties of reception as well.

“And they will rise” means that you can transform the property of reception into property of bestowal by building the right intention.

“And go through the land,“ that is, the children of Israel will master all their desires and will be able to mix them together and work together on them as one common desire with one common intention.

Everything that they learn, receive, master, they will be able to absorb into themselves. This is the meaning of “describe.”

“And they will come to me,” they will return again to their mentor, who brought them here, and they will go on with him.

The mentor supports them, directs them, corrects them, helps them, explains why they exist. Why is it necessary to overcome such obstacles, to overcome your egoism for the sake of connection and love with each other?

It is about how to perceive the teacher correctly and implement what he says. All this is the process of entering the land of Israel.

Answer: I believe that everything that a person experiences can be suitable. It only depends on the idea.

Question: What genres do you personally like the most?

Answer: For conveying Kabbalistic information, I cannot imagine anything other than a conversation in the form of a dialogue or a monologue.

What else could it be? When actors are running around the stage, it does not mean anything. It all depends on what they want to convey. Therefore, nothing can be said in advance.

Comment: But the Torah is written in dramatic language. There are always some events occurring: wars, love, hatred.

My Response: It is not exactly what we think. We do not understand what is written in the Torah. It speaks about something completely different. It is a story that allegorically conveys the elevation of man above his nature to the level of the Creator.
