Lack of Harmony in the Material World

738Question: When we look at the nature of our world, we see that there is still harmony at the inanimate, vegetative, and animate levels. Is the manifestation of egoism observed mainly at the level of human nature, at the level of society?

Answer: No, egoism affects all the lower degrees too. Are animals not egoistic? Are plants not egoistic? They have an egoistic intention to act only for their own benefit; it is just that it is not as complex as ours.

Question: So there is no harmony at all in our earthly nature, at all degrees?

Answer: No. In nothing.

Attain HaVaYaH

263The four phases in the desire are the four letters HaVaYaH, which are KHB TM (Keter, Hochma, Bina, Tifferet, Malchut)” (Baal HaSulam, Study of the Ten Sefirot (TES). Vol. 1. Part 1. “Inner Observation”).

Question: How do Kabbalists attain HaVaYaH? Do they attain it as something whole, including all the elements, or in parts?

Answer: HaVaYaH is a system that starts from the Creator and ends in the depths of creation. Kabbalists attain it as something complete.

We study the desire that changes under the influence of the Creator. In other words, we learn how the Creator influences the desire until He brings it to the best state.

Attainment of HaVaYaH begins with the Kabbalist dissolving into it, if I may say. He understands that everything in him is created by the Creator or received from the Creator, and there is nothing from himself.

Question: If so, how does he reveal the entire structure of the development of the desire, from the Creator to the creation?

Answer: The Creator shows him how opposite to the upper light he was created, and in these two opposites, he attains the entire creation. The Creator does not need darkness and light, but man needs them to pass through all the intermediate phases between him and the Creator. That is how his spiritual development occurs.

The Shattering of the Unified System of Adam HaRishon

264.01Before the shattering, one system of Adam HaRishon existed in the universe.

This organism was in complete harmony with the Creator with a positive desire to bestow, to nourish, to love.

However, in order to create something opposite and create our world out of opposites, the system underwent a shattering, which is called the sin of Adam.

More precisely, it was not the desires themselves that were shattered, but specifically the connections, that is, intentions. Thus, the entire nature turned out to be completely broken into the smallest parts, which then began to reassemble but no longer according to the law of mutual bestowal, attraction, and love, but on the contrary, on mutually beneficial terms. This is how the egoistic nature of our world was created.

In other words, the breaking of altruistic connections between all forces caused the emergence of egoistic connections. All of this, as Kabbalah describes, happened before the Big Bang in the world of forces. And then, through the gradual coarsening of these forces, our earthly nature and we emerged.

Build an Image of the Creator

294.4Question: In your blog you wrote that with the help of the shattering, the Creator gave us the opportunity to exist and express ourselves. After all, if the parts of the common soul were not broken, we would not be able to build the image of the Creator and feel ourselves. How can we understand this?

Answer: It is precisely because we feel others (beside ourselves) that we can transition from receiving to bestowing and thus, through us, correct the entire nature.

We can correct inanimate, vegetative, animate, and human nature, and achieve mutual bestowal and unification and thus reach complete connection.

Question: How can people build an image of the Creator in their relationships?

Answer: The image of the Creator is absolute bestowal, complete love or rather, not He Himself but His powers. People can and will have to come to the properties of absolute bestowal and love.

715Question: Why is it possible to come to absolute love and bestowal only after the shattering?

Answer: We would otherwise not feel how truly egoistic and broken the state we are in is. It is from our distancing from each other that we begin to realize how much we need to be connected.

This is all necessary for a conscious process, for freedom of choice. If we existed only in the light itself, we simply would not feel that light.

Question: How long should this take? Does nature have a deadline?

Answer: Nature has no time and no deadlines. But in principle, we are already quite close to realization.

As our great teacher Baal HaSulam writes, we are in a process called “the last generation.” It is quite possible that we will yet see the world shifting from receiving to giving, from hatred to love.

Based On the Plan of Creation

226Question: Is the plan of creation some kind of goal toward which the entire creation is moving, or is it a thought that is in every part of creation at every moment of time?

Answer: Both. The purpose of creation is the creation of creatures in order to ultimately delight them, fill them with the highest light, and help them reach the level of the Creator. In this way their perfection is achieved.

Question: In every state of creation is there a piece of the plan of creation? For example, in every human thought, in every human desire?

Answer: Yes, in everything. Because all this comes from the Creator’s decision to create a single creature.

Under Complete Restriction

232.05Question: Where in our world can we see the manifestation of the first and second restrictions? These are, as if, two basic laws that Kabbalists revealed in the spiritual world. So, should there be some consequence in our world?

Answer: The fact is that our world is under complete restriction. We can bestow to each other or receive from each other, but these are not the same bestowal and reception that we talk about in Kabbalah.

These are exchanges of a completely different type. If I give something to someone, then I automatically calculate the benefit for myself. Therefore, even though I give, I feel that I receive.

That is, in our world these two laws do not operate explicitly. We are below them. It turns out that we act instinctively, like animals.

Memories of Pleasures

282.01Comment: TANTA is a process when pleasures enter desires; when they exit it, they leave Reshimot, that is, memories of these pleasures.

My Response: The interaction of creation with the Creator is the interaction of the desire to receive with the upper light.

The light is inherently bestowing and desire is receiving. If the creation can make a restriction on its desire to receive and work in the same way as the light, with the desire to bestow (which means that it will still receive, but already for the sake of the Creator, with a different intention than initially), then it turns out that the Creator gives pleasure to creation in the form of the light, and creation, by receiving it, gives pleasure to the Creator.

Comment: In principle, Kabbalah explains the most natural processes that occur even in our body, in our world. How to receive pleasure, what memories remain from past pleasures and future pleasures, Kabbalah studies and describes all this.

My Response: The only problem is that we cannot reproduce them in ourselves quickly, as if by a textbook. We must work at this for a long time in order to begin to receive the force that would raise us above egoism, and we would be able to receive and bestow according to our own decisions.

Parsa—The Border between Worlds and Desires

631.1Question: Between the world of Assiya and the worlds of BYA there is some kind of limiting line called Parsa. Is that where the second restriction took place?

Answer: Yes, the Parsa is a certain border below which the upper light cannot descend. Therefore we can divide all worlds, all spiritual space, from the world of infinity to Parsa and from Parsa down to the basis.

Our work is to raise our broken, egoistic desires, from below upward, and there, above the Parsa, connect them and fill them with the upper light, the presence of the Creator. All the egoistic desires that we cannot yet raise remain empty and dark below the Parsa.

In other words, there are a great number of desires. Before the Parsa, these desires are lighter and only the first restriction applies to them (the prohibition of receiving for one’s own sake). But if not for one’s own sake, then you can use them.

The Parsa is the border beyond which our dark desires exist, and we cannot use them even for the sake of the Creator because there cannot be such intentions there.

Thus, the entire path of correction that Kabbalah talks about is the correction of egoistic desires, both light and coarse. The coarse ones are corrected by rising above Parsa. And all these desires are only in relation to the Creator. How can we use the connection with the Creator?—For the Creator’s sake or for your own sake. For one’s own sake is below the Parsa, and for the Creator’s sake is above the Parsa.

Spiritual Laws and Our World

234Question: Does every spiritual law have an effect in our world?

Answer: No, not everyone. In our world the spiritual laws do not manifest at all with the exception of the most primitive ones—“give and take.”

Nevertheless, there is a tendency to unite in the world. For example, molecules unite into more complex substances and so forth. We see that this force exists. Gradually our world is moving toward unity in any case.

Question: If the spiritual laws do not manifest in our world, does it mean that the first and the second laws of restriction do not exist at the inanimate, vegetative, and animal level? Are they only at the human level?

Answer: Practically yes. The first law is a ban to receive for the sake of oneself. We cannot cancel or change it. It does not exist in our world. We do not see its application.

Whereas the second restriction, i.e., the second law, speaks that at some stage Kabbalists reveal the presence of egoistic desires that for now we cannot use even for the sake of the Creator since we do not have the screen. However, when we correct them, we will be able to receive into them.
