Question: What is the difference between the Egyptians and the mixed multitude? What do the Egyptians inside us want? Are they also egoistic desires?

Answer: The Egyptians just want a good life without any connection with the Creator. This is the usual consumerist attitude toward our world, like with most people. But there are also people who say: “No, we will do what the Creator wants from us,” that is, all kinds of commandments. The Creator’s desires are called commandments.

“We will fulfill these commandments, but not to be similar to the Creator, not for the sake of bestowal and love (after all, all the commandments boil down to “love your neighbor as yourself “), but in order to earn the future world by ourselves.”

Question: When the counting of the twelve tribes was taking place, the mixed multitude was not included there. Are they not related to correction at all?

Answer: No, the mixed multitude is those desires that we do not want to take with us from Egypt, to raise them from there. We cannot lead them across the Yam Suf, Final Sea (Red Sea). Although they chase us and try to bring us back to Egypt by force, we go on further and they either drown at theYam Suf (Red Sea) or return to Egypt.

Question: In the Midrash Raba (Great Commentary) it is written that the mixed multitude provided horses for the chariots of Pharaoh to catch up with the Israelites. What does this mean in spiritual work?

Answer: This means that they give everything to any egoistic forces so to stop those people who want to get out of Egypt.

Question: From the point of view of Kabbalah regarding spiritual work, the whole society can be divided into three parts:

“Israel“—people who strive for the Creator.

“Egyptians”—people for whom spirituality is not important at all and they are busy fulfilling their material needs.

The “mixed multitude”—people that on one hand fear God, and on the other hand want to use the connection with the Creator for their own sake, which is identical to working for the Pharaoh.

The question is: How is it possible to use the Creator or connection with Him for oneself?

Answer: If you look around, the whole world more or less believes that there is a higher power, the Creator. Look how many temples have been built on Earth and all kinds of denominations have been created! And all of it is an expression of man’s desire for connection with the Creator. In fact, there is practically no real atheist in the world who completely cut themselves off from the Creator.

Comment: They say that only two percent of people in the world are atheists.

My Response: If you really dig into this issue, then this is not the case because the point of connection with the upper force was initially established within us. Any person can be driven to a state where he demands faith in the Creator because without this he will have no reason to live and somehow hold onto this world.

Therefore, all people are clearly divided into two classes. One kind are those who live a normal life and use their connection with the Creator in order to add confidence and all kinds of sensations to themselves. These are ordinary believers of all colors and denominations, no matter what kind.

They can be very different, opposite, even opponents, but they still believe in an upper force, they call it differently and clothe their connection with it in different stories. All of this refers to the cultural framework of humanity’s connection with the Creator.

And there are people who want to reveal this connection for real. So they demand it, they want it to appear, they want to reveal the Creator Himself so that He manifests in them just like a person we know would appear before us.

Just as in the surrounding world we see the still, vegetative, animate, and human nature, they want no less obvious manifestation of the fifth type of reality—the higher power, the Creator. In what form and what conditions are there for it to manifest itself, this must be clarified. But in principle, such a desire exists in a person.

Therefore, the wisdom of Kabbalah says that if such an aspiration exists in a person, then it can be fulfilled, one just needs to know how it is done. And then you will feel how in our world, in addition to the inanimate, vegetative, animate, and human species, there is also a higher level—a force that controls all of them and determines absolutely everything: past, present, and future. This mighty, great, omnipresent force can manifest and reveal itself to any person.

The science of Kabbalah is the system of knowledge that prepares us for the revelation of the Creator, and we can gradually understand Him. This is the subject of its study and implementation.

Comment: In the primary sources it is written that certain forces must be destroyed, erased from memory, for example, the force of Amalek (the abbreviation of “Al Menat Lekabel” meaning the intention for one’s own sake). But it is not written anywhere that it is necessary to exterminate the “mixed multitude.”

My Response: The power of the mixed multitude is close by, in parallel with those people who are constantly leaving Egypt and rising above their egoism in their desire to unite, to love, and to reveal the Creator in connection between them. But this is a person’s struggle with their own egoistic inclinations. It continues throughout history until they are completely corrected.

Question: That is, these forces are like wolves, orderlies of the forest, who are looking for some sick desires? They help a man figure out his intentions?

Answer: Yes. We have no right to destroy them. We must simply move forward despite their resistance.

Even in our community, we see how people who have been with us for a long time suddenly get up and start saying: “Guys, you are acting incorrectly! You have to follow a different path! We just need to fulfill the commandments without delving into their inner essence! Only in this way can we do what needs to be done. ”

And they say it from the bottom of their hearts. They simply do not attain a higher level of the intended purpose of the commandments. As a result, we cannot agree with them, and they leave.

Question: Does the mixed multitude include people who consciously demand payment from the Creator for their actions, otherwise they are not ready to work?

Answer: Yes. But what is the reason? If a person went by faith above reason, he would find the strength to act further for bestowal, love, adhesion, and unity. And if he does not go for it, since this urgent need has not yet matured within him, then he has nothing to do but to remain in his egoistic state, and he has no other choice. Then he becomes Erev Rav (mixed multitude).

All nature—still, vegetative, and animate —develops according to its own laws. We humans are also part of animate nature. But there is another part in us, which is called “human.”

It is interesting that the constantly growing egoism in us is the human component that drives us toward development. But we are misusing it.

That is, our body is an animal, and our spiritual component, the human in us (in this animal there is something else called a man), does not develop according to natural laws. It is given to us so that we ourselves develop it correctly, but we cannot manage it.

First of all, we must reach the realization of evil, that by natural egoistic development we cannot bring ourselves to a right life, to a good, kind state. When we put ourselves on the brink of disappearance, extermination, destruction, then humanity will come to its senses. This is stated in Kabbalah, and this should be decided in the coming years.

Question: What if people don’t listen?

Answer: They will listen, they will make you suffer. After all, our nature is the desire to enjoy. Therefore, if we experience suffering, we are ready to do everything to get rid of it. And now we are stuffing ourselves with bumps, we are introducing ourselves into suffering, which ultimately will unite in such huge, unbearable sensations that we will be ready to change everything.

Question: But what way out does a person have today?

Answer: Find out what is happening to us. This is revealed by the wisdom of Kabbalah. It tells about the history of our development, starting with the higher forces of nature, how the network of forces in the universe was created, and then gradually the universe and everything in it was formed, and where this should lead us.

The wisdom of Kabbalah has nothing to do with religion. All religions are only 2,000 years old. And Kabbalah originated in ancient Babylon. The first Kabbalistic books date from this period.

Today Kabbalah is becoming so popular and in demand because by studying it we begin to understand the origins of our nature, our life, and our development.

Question: Inside a man there are desires called “mixed multitude.” On the one hand, they fear the Creator, but on the other hand, at the same time they are workers of the Pharaoh. That is, a man uses the connection with the Creator for his own sake. This, as it is written in the sources, is the most insidious impure force (Klipa).

What does it mean that they fear the Creator? If the Creator is the property of bestowal, the power of emanation, the altruistic power of nature, how can one fear it?

Answer: The point is that we can use the connection with the Creator in two ways: egoistically and altruistically. That is, I may not relate to the Creator at all, but I can relate to Him with the understanding that I have a certain attitude toward Him and I want to deserve something from Him.

I want to reveal, to understand, to become aware of Him. I want to earn a connection with Him and get something from this connection. Thus, my attitude to the Creator is purely consumeristic: I demand from Him. And then my connections with the Creator represent a continuation of my egoistic inclinations in our world.

That is, I am already going further as it were, into the spiritual world, into my connection with the Creator, and demand that He reveal to me, reward me for my striving for Him, and so on.

Question: It turns out that, in principle, I fear the Creator. He is great in my eyes, but for my actions I demand payment from Him?

Answer: Yes, I demand either a reward in this world, or, as we die, then perhaps a reward in the future world. Such an egoistic attitude toward the Creator is called a “mixed multitude.”

When we think of religion, we usually think of prayers, ceremonious garments, perhaps fragrant incense or candles burning in designated dents along the walls, and people’s lips moving silently as they speak to their God. They ask for what they need; they pray for themselves, for their loved ones, and they believe, or hope, that God will grant their wishes. They’ve never seen God, never spoke to God the way we speak to one another, but their faith is steadfast nonetheless. Indeed, their faith is all they have. Religious people exchange proof for faith, seeing for believing; they act on faith as though it were the proven fact.

Where matters are vital for our lives, we mustn’t follow blindly, but experiment, try for ourselves, and see what is true and what is not.

However, if you think about it, people who believe that a political view, a social doctrine, or a scientific theory will yield certain results for them, and change their lives accordingly, such people act the same as believers of any traditional religion. So, essentially, since we all believe in something, be it a deity, a political party, or a scientific theory, we are all religious. Who, then, is not religious? Only those who do not say “Amen” to anything, but check it for themselves. Indeed, they are a rarity.

Clearly, sometimes we have no choice but to accept what is given to us. Not all of us, for example, can hop on a spaceship and fly to outer space just to see for ourselves that the Earth is round. But such notions, however interesting, do not change our lives. Where matters are vital for our lives, we mustn’t follow blindly, but experiment, try for ourselves, and see what is true and what is not.

When Kabbalists, from whom I learned everything I know, write that the Creator is benevolent, they do not expect you to believe it. They tell you how they conducted their experiments, how they reached the conclusions they had reached, and it is up to you to try it for yourself. Until you repeat their experiment and reach your own conclusion, you will not be regarded as a Kabbalist. You might be regarded as a Kabbalah student, but not a Kabbalist. If you choose to act on blind faith, you will never become a Kabbalist and you’ll remain religious. If you choose to question everything they tell you and perform the experiments on yourself, then you just might attain what they have attained, and you’ll be worthy of the title “Kabbalist.”

Question: One of the challenges of the twenty-first century is the agony of religions. Since the end of the 20th century and literally the first two decades of the 21st century, there has been a return to religions. It’s like a bright flash before fading out. What would be the alternative?

Answer: Attainment of the upper force. Moreover, there is a clear attainment, a clear contact between people and the manifestation of the upper force in this contact, within humanity. Attaining it in sensation, humanity will rise to the level of this force.

No religion, no beliefs! There will be no room for them because there will be a clear sensory and mental sense of the upper world. Humanity will come to the level of a different existence, higher than its nature. This is the goal of our development.

While remaining in our bodies, in the sense of this world, we will simultaneously attain that huge computer, that huge system that controls us, and we ourselves will begin to control it. We’ll get to the point where we can reprogram this computer.

And then, when we reach this stage with the whole of humanity, then those people who gradually enter and are in this program, will begin to lose the sense of this world, because in reality it does not exist. It is only felt in our five bodily senses, and they are purely conditional.

Thus, our world will gradually disappear from our senses, and we will feel ourselves existing on the next, spiritual level, inside a huge computer, which is called the universe.

Question: Is it like a human-made robot suddenly understanding the human brain, the one who created it?

Answer: Yes. Our task is to understand the one who created us, and to be equal to Him, to be His partner.

Question: Would you be interested in anyone contributing to the revival of Sufism? This is also Kabbalah, but Islamic. At the same time, it is more comprehensible because it is intended for a greater mass of people.

If Sufism is reborn in some way, could these two streams exist simultaneously without creating a conflict?

Answer: First, Sufism and Kabbalah will never contradict each other. There cannot be any conflict between them.

Second, both Sufism and Kabbalah have been ostracized because both teachings are hated by religious leaders of both Islam and Judaism.

Third, there can be no connection between Sufism and Kabbalah yet because they need revival. We must breathe life into both of them. Sufism is in exile.

I have met Sufis abroad: in the Netherlands, in England, in America. They were compelled to flee from Iran and Iraq. But they were mature or old men. I don’t think they are with us anymore. And they practically had no students.

But I really hope that just as Kabbalah is being reborn in Judaism so will Sufism be reborn in Islam and spread throughout the world. Those who are interested in Sufism will start to practice it. Those who are interested in Kabbalah will practice it. It doesn’t matter! The main thing is for a man to work on himself and improve himself.

Practically, both Sufism and Kabbalah teach the same thing. Sufism, like Kabbalah, originated from Abraham. But he passed Sufism as a spiritual teaching to his eldest son Ishmael, and Kabbalah to his second son Isaac. But in fact, these are related techniques.

There are no contradictions between them. The main thing is to develop and spread them.

However, I would not recommend blending them. Let them grow. And later you will start to think and to understand whether it is appropriate for them to be blended and how.

People follow the religious commandments with great enthusiasm because they feel great support for their desire to receive pleasure; they are willing to make efforts to receive rewards in this world and most importantly in the future world, forever. Therefore, a person is ready to work all the years of his life in order to receive eternal life.

But how can one avoid the shame of receiving such a thing so as not to work for the Creator out of self-interest? That is why the whole reality was created, so we could work in it and instead of being rewarded for our work, the work itself will give us new organs of perception that allow us to enter the world, the whole of which is a reward.

Kabbalah can never become a religion because a Kabbalist goes through changes all the time. Religion is based on rigid attitudes that are forbidden to be changed, on dogmas that cannot be deviated from,  which clearly define everything that needs to be done.

And Kabbalah, at its core, as a method of advancing to the Creator, presupposes constant changes in a person. Each time, the Creator is new, and I am new, with a new relationship, a new group. Therefore, Kabbalah is not considered a religion.

Every second, every time, every person and the whole ten together check themselves and constantly change. After all, everything is subject to change since it is being realized in our desire to receive pleasure, which is constantly changing.

People who like to obey clear orders prefer a religious framework and derive content from following them.

A Kabbalist is always in doubt, in clarification, in uncertainty, and must cling to the Creator through the group in order to attract some light that illuminates his path. And this is the right way for spiritual development, because in this way we build ourselves in the likeness of the Creator and become people, “sons of Adam,” having made our way through all this confusion and turmoil.

According to the definition of Kabbalah, Bnei Baruch is a movement aimed at revealing the Creator to the creatures in this world.

Abraham was a very famous, respected person in ancient Babylon. Therefore, his Kabbalistic teachings successfully spread among the Babylonians. It is said that he presented them with the whole idea of future spiritual development.

Rambam, the great philosopher of the 12th century, wrote that thousands of people followed Abraham. Thousands! He led them away from Babylon into the Land of Israel. Those who did not follow him, because they did not feel an inner predisposition to become similar to the Creator, decided to scatter around the globe. The original sources say that Abraham gave them so-called “gifts.”

The gifts mean that he has taught them all sorts of other methods that are based not on overcoming egoism and not on correcting it in the middle line in order to advance above the ego and rise from HGT to HBD. On the contrary, these methods are based on reducing egoism, belittling it, and being satisfied with modest and small things. In other words, Abraham gave the Babylonians the beginnings of beliefs and religions. This is how they settled all over the Earth.

We see that those spiritual teachings, especially the Eastern ones, as well as religions, are built on being modest, not standing out among others. They do not encourage the development of egoism and even the development of machinery and technology.

These theories are completely opposite to the method of Kabbalah, which says: the more egoism, the better because with its help we can rise and correct ourselves.

However, if a person has no desire for correction, then it is better for him to belittle his egoism and keep his head down.
