The Torah, “Leviticus,” 23:4 – 23:8: These are the Lord’s appointed [holy days], holy occasions, which you shall designate in their appointed time: In the first month, on the fourteenth of the month, in the afternoon, [you shall sacrifice] the Passover offering to the Lord. And on the fifteenth day of that month is the Festival of Unleavened Cakes to the Lord; you shall eat unleavened cakes for a seven day period. On the first day, there shall be a holy occasion for you; you shall not perform any work of labor. And you shall bring a fire offering to the Lord for a seven day period. On the seventh day, there shall be a holy occasion; you shall not perform any work of labor.

Question: Why is it forbidden to work on the first and last days of Passover?

Answer: It is because we distinguish between two states in the spiritual work: awakening from below and awakening from Above.

During the awakening from below we evoke the cooperation between the Light and the vessel by our yearning. The Light corrects the vessel and gives it the right intention. During the awakening from Above, this work is fulfilled from Above but only because we have created all the right conditions for it in advance.

We make efforts, thus creating the right conditions for the first and last days of the holiday since the week of Passover has to be closed at its ends by states in which we don’t do anything since the upper Light does all the work. The first day of the holiday is the beginning of the exodus from Egypt. The last day is the end of the exodus that seals it.

It is important to say that the nations of the world have different calendars. The Christian calendar is based on the movement of the sun. The Muslim calendar is based on the movement of the moon. While the Jewish calendar takes the movement of the sun, the moon, and the earth into account since the earth is the central object between the sun and the moon.

On the one hand, we take the year into account, which means the revolution of the earth around the sun, and on the other hand, we take the month into account, the revolution of the moon around the earth, and compare the two. Thus the Jewish calendar doesn’t change and so, for example, we can calculate in advance which day of the week will be the first day of Passover in another 35 years.

What is more, based on the comparison between the movement of the sun, the earth, and the moon, we can say that Passover cannot be on certain days of the month. This means that everything is accurately related to the general astrological system.

Question: The Torah refers to holy assemblies several times. Why do we have to gather in Passover?

Answer: Holy assemblies during Passover are the most important thing for the Israeli nation since it is actually thanks to their desire to unite that they need to come out of Egypt.

A person’s union with a group of people, with the society, with the nation, or with the whole world is actually different levels of the exodus from Egypt (from the ego). When we attain the force of unity, a certain tension, this exodus, the detachment from the ego, takes place.

It is always among us, separating us and making us feel repulsed by one another. If we begin to compress and condense it, try to unite and connect to one another, then the exit from the ego begins the moment we first attain unity.

On the first day of Passover (the exodus from Egypt) we begin to tighten this connection. Then we work on it during the week and totally unite on the last day of the exodus from Egypt. From that moment on we are a united nation.

But in the meantime, people don’t understand what they should do, although there is a direction that spurs the desire to escape from the ego. But it is merely an animalistic instinct without the proper awareness. People will acquire the recognition when they gather at the foot of Mount Sinai.

According to The Book of Zohar everyone should reveal an action below. Therefore Aaron performed an action below, seven days of holiness during which he didn’t come out of the Tent of Meeting, and then he offered sacrifice on the eighth day in order to invoke the action from above by which general unity is revealed. Then all the worlds that the priest (Cohen) awakens receive the blessing, and the priest himself is filled by the wholeness as required.

It is about the need for Aaron’s bestowal (the complete attribute of bestowal) unto the people (the other attributes) just as unto a group, which by gathering, affects the force that is above it since Aaron cannot influence it.

He has to perform an action below in order to unite the people and then they influence the upper force. Then the upper force can influence Aaron even more so that he can unite the nation even more strongly and then they influence the upper force even more. This is a continuous cycle.

It turns out that Aaron and the nation depend on each other. The upper force responds to the request of the nation, to its call, to its prayer (the prayer of many).

Aaron can only be a teacher and raise the prayer of the nation upward, but the nation operates him. It is thanks to the nation that Aaron receives spiritual elevation and all the others ascend through him in their turn.

The Zohar, “Shlach Lecha” (Send Forth), Item 83: Israel are happier than all the nations in the world for the Creator wanted them, called His name by them, and was glorified in them, for the world was created only for Israel, so they may engage in Torah. It is so because one connects to one, ZA and Malchut, and Israel below, in this world, are His existence, whereby their good deeds they raise MAN for their Zivug, and they are the existence of all the other nations, who exist for Israel, who do their Master’s will.

The general soul was divided into two parts: GE and AHP. The desires that belong to GE received the sparks of bestowal during the shattering, and are therefore attracted to the Creator. They live in this world and ask about the meaning of this life, about their goal, and about the purpose of our existence here.

These questions don’t stem from a practical useful benefit but from an inner instinctive aspiration to discover the Creator, the source of our life. Such desires are called Israel, which means Yashar-El (straight to the Creator), and therefore, when the Light operates on the desires, it is this type of desire that emerges first before all the others.

The scrutiny is focused on the connection between us above our ego, which we define as the force that prevents unity. These circumstances were first revealed in a state called ancient Babylon.

There for the first time began to appear these desires feeling the urge to reveal the Creator, while all the other desires yearned for the revelation of their ego. Thus, they drew apart in different directions, according to their vector. Some went to one way and the others to another.

Israel were those who discovered the method of correction and fulfilled it. This entire method is about attaining “Love thy neighbor as thyself” with the help of the Light that Reforms. Thus, a person resembles the Creator and wants to delight Him by all these actions.

All the other desires didn’t yearn for that at the time but only wanted to fill their ego and began to develop in a capitalistic manner. They lived a simple life in groups, as one nation, as one community in ancient Babylon before the ego erupted in them. They cared only about their simple wellbeing and about how to provide their bread and the basic necessities for human existence.

However, when the egoistic desire to enjoy grew in them, and some of the people began to aspire for the revelation of the Creator, the other part continued to develop its desire to enjoy, the ego. This ego pushed them to acquire more than they needed. This is where the evolution of human society begins in the form that it has evolved until this very day in order to acquire greater wealth beyond a person’s basic needs.

This determined an entirely different  lifestyle and goal of life, compared to the goal of life of those who yearn for the Creator, of Israel, and, so, the two groups drew further and further apart. The Babylonians who called themselves Israel focused straight to the Creator and began to fulfill this work and thus drew further away from the others.

With time, newer parts of the Babylonians began to join Israel to the extent that the Light operated on them and clarified the desires from one generation to the next. Thus, more and more people began to feel the yearning for the Creator according to the correction of the desire to “Love thy neighbor as thyself.”

Question: Why is anti-Semitism growing all over the world?

Answer: It is in order to push you and bring you closer to the goal. This is apparently necessary in order to awaken Israel to correction. What can we do if we don’t awaken any other way?

According to the general plan, we have now come to a state that we have to correct in order to ascend to the next level. But we are not doing this, and therefore it is necessary to spur us by pressures. It is because this is the only way the desire to receive understands.

If you wave a carrot in front of a person trying to tempt him, he will run and his egoistic desire to receive will grow. But then, having a big ego, he will not want to correct himself if he refused to do so when he had a small desire. If life were beautiful and wonderful all over the world, people wouldn’t want to think about anything but corporeal comfort.

It turns out that there is no other choice but to be pressured. This stems from the adaptation between the Lights and the vessels and not because someone Above has decided to punish us. If we are influenced by the lack of Light, don’t correct this lack and don’t take care of it properly, this lack of Light keeps growing. Then it increasingly accumulates until it explodes in the form of a pogrom or a holocaust.

These are the laws of nature that are only fulfilled in ways such as through Nazis and others that emerge throughout the world. They don’t determine or decide anything by themselves. Everything comes from Above as a result of the lack of adaptation between the Lights and the vessels.

After such a blow, the nation that should have already advanced and disseminated the wisdom of Kabbalah, which means the method of correction, reaches a peaceful period. It is because those certain vessels are gone now since they all died, and so there is a certain limited period of peace. But at what cost! The pressure between the Lights and the vessels forces us to perform the correction in some way, and if we don’t advance along the path of Achishena (hastening time) then it is along the path of “in its time – Beito” (the path of suffering).

Don’t delude yourselves that we are in a better situation today than we were before. Then we had a place to run to and now there will be nowhere to run and the whole world will be like this. Anti-Semitism is growing all over the world and it is because we are not advancing and are lagging behind in our corrections.

If we see how evil increases each day, it is a sign that we are not doing our job each day.

Question: What else should we do so that anti-Semitism will disappear?

Answer: We must go out to the public even more actively and explain and gather people around the idea of mutual guarantee, which is the condition for reaching “love thy friend as thyself” by the Light that Reforms.

In the meantime, however, we don’t manage to advance in the necessary speed according to the timeline. This is the reason that our debt keeps growing every day. No matter how much you profit, your debt to the bank only grows. What should we do if our profit isn’t enough and we don’t have enough time? This is a great problem. We must hurry!

Baal HaSulam, “Matan Torah” (The Giving of the Torah), Section 17: From all the above, we can understand one of the most perplexing phrases of our sages: “All of Israel are responsible for one another.” This seems to be completely unjust, … But according to the above said, we can understand their words very simply; we have shown that each of the 613 Mitzvot in the Torah revolves around that single Mitzva: “Love thy friend as thyself.” And we find that such a state can only exist in a whole nation whose every member agrees to it.

We truly will have nothing to wait for and no hope that we can reach such an intensity of connection that is called love of others from our egoistic state, even though we have a group and study, unless we work in a dimension called the entire nation.

There must be an integration of very many connected desires here in which each one discovers his unique character, and then, to the degree of the full mutual integration between them, it will be possible to reach such a powerful desire that will attract the Light that Reforms, bringing them the quality of love.

The sons of Jacob were unable to reach this love, this intensity of desire, as long as they were closed within their family, and there was even hatred among the brothers, which testifies to the intensity of the desire required for correction. This is because each one had a different mother, his own share in the house of his father, and his own character.

However, even this was not enough for their connection, beyond rejecting each other, which would give them a fulfillment called love. Only when the great ego called Pharaoh was added to them and after they had gone through 400 years of the Egyptian exile and discovered all the levels of the ego, was the intensity of the separation sufficient for them to be called a nation instead of a group.

The idea here is not quantity, but speaks only about quality. Therefore, after they received additional ego, additional density, they began to call themselves a nation and merited to receive a means to make a correction that became imperative for them. This is because they no longer could correct anything themselves as brothers who felt themselves to be members of one family before their entry into Egypt.

With the exodus from Egypt and the heaviness of heart, after they took all the vessels of the Pharaoh, they already began to require the Torah.

My Comment: Anti-Semitism is an imprint of the behavior of Jews: to the extent to which they fulfill their purpose, to lead the world to unity and adhesion with the Creator, to that extent, the world and the Creator treat us. And vice versa…

Question: Where are we today? The people of Israel left Egypt, received the Torah on Mount Sinai, understood that they had some kind of task, a mission, and what was next? What kind of task has been placed before us today?

Answer: Our actual task today is to develop the people of Israel in the land of Israel so that they will know what they must do to sustain themselves and continue to exist.

When our people will ensure their existence, they must explain why they exist, for what higher purpose. Only if we carry out this higher purpose and yearn to bring all of humanity to adhesion with the Creator do we merit being connected with Him.

This knowledge must reach the people, and we will attract the Light that must illuminate us when we go to meet it through our yearning to connect and provide an example for the entire world. However, if we don’t connect, then that same Light will illuminate us through its backside.

If we are not ready to approach this Light, it will be revealed to us in an opposite way, and as a result, we will experience terrible misfortune such as wars, disasters and another holocaust like we passed through 70 years ago.

We see from day to day how the world situation is developing and becoming worse. Everyone in the world is beginning to talk about anti-Semitism as if it were a normal phenomenon. No one is ashamed anymore, and no one considers it to be bad. England, Scandinavia, and Spain, essentially all of them, are recognized as being openly anti-Semitic, as if it were self-evident.

In fact, they are right, after all, we have not transmitted the method of correction to the world. We have not carried out our obligation.

Comment: The problem is that not everyone believes that this is really our obligation, our function.

Answer: It is necessary to listen to what the sages, the Kabbalists, say. We have no other choice. We will never attain the truth as long as we have not corrected ourselves and have not attained revelation. So we cannot sit and wait until the truth becomes known to us. It will never be known to us if we don’t advance toward it.

We welcome everyone in this world to connection and a simple unity. We are not required to wait until the heavens open and we see the spiritual world. Sit in a circle with others and in 20 to 30 minutes you will see how you begin to feel this higher power. In the center of this circle, in the center of our connection, we feel the origin of a unique force.

This is possible and this must be done quickly among all of the people of Israel! The problem is that it is not for nothing that these people are called “stiff-necked.” In spite of it all, you must not despair, for the people of Israel in relation to the entire world are like the Cohens and Levites among the people of Israel.

Although we are not ready to be Cohens and Levites, the people of Israel who yearn to be Yashar El (straight to the Creator), will be required to become them, since the world will require this from us.

The moment that we begin to seriously realize this task together, and the moment we begin to carry out this unification of the people of Israel, the entire world will settle down. Everyone will look at us and say, “See what they are doing! We will wait. They have initiated something special.”

The nations of the world will feel this because within them are the roots of the shattering due to the sin of Adam HaRishon with the tree of knowledge, and if Israel begins to correct this sin, then the nations of the world will feel this, “Oh, they are making this correction! We didn’t even know that it was possible to correct this at all and come closer, whereas the Jews are doing it!”

The nations of the world will immediately change their attitude towards us. We will begin the correction and it will be known immediately to the entire world. We don’t even need to advertise anything about it. Not long ago, I published a large article in the largest American newspaper, The New York Times and, after that in the English newspaper The Telegraph and in the Italian newspaper Corriere Della Sera. However, in the future, there won’t be a need to advertise anything. The nations of the world will write about it themselves because they will feel it themselves.

However, if we don’t bring them this correction and don’t carry out our task, the anti-Semitism, which we are now witnessing, will continue to grow. So, come. Let’s cross the wilderness quickly and reach the land of Israel.

Opinion (John Hagee, founder and senior pastor of Cornerstone Church, San Antonio, Texas,  CEO Global Evangelism Television (GETV): “John Hagee declared on his Hagee Hotline show last week that God will destroy America because of the way President Obama and the Democrats are treating Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.  ‘It’s proven by history,’ he said.

“’I am a student of world history,’ he said, ‘And you can wrap up world history in 25 words or less and here it is: the nations that blessed Israel prospered and the nations that cursed Israel were destroyed by the hand of God.’

“According to Hagee, the Egyptian, Babylonian, Ottoman and British Empires all fell because they did not give the proper respect to Israel, the only country ever to exist because God ordained it for his favorite people.  Of course, real historians all agree that those empires all fell from their own weight because they became too large to control.

“’God could care less about our relationship with other nations,’ Hagee said.  ‘But he’s watching what America does as it responds to Israel. If America turns its back on Israel, God will turn his back on America. And that’s a fact. It’s proven by history.'”

My Comment: On more than one occasion I have heard the same opinion from various people who are not historians or preachers. It apparently applies both to love and to punishment. But that is what makes it the Israeli nation as it performs its mission to be the Light to the nations of the world and bring the method of revealing the upper force to the world.

God will punish America and the entire world, but even before that it will start to punish Israel again because it is our incorrect behavior that causes the American attitude toward us.

It is not Obama who makes decisions, but us, through our attitude towards our responsibilities in this world! Indeed, we are the only ones in this world who have the freedom of choice (see the article “The Freedom”) to reveal the Creator in the connection between us.

This is the only free action that was left to humans by nature, the Creator, and it was given only to us, and for this we are hated. The nations of the world feel their dependence on the people of Israel, and anti-Semitism is their natural reaction to our behavior.

Rabash, “If He Merits, His Work Will Be Done by Others”: If he merits, his work will be done by others. But if he doesn’t merit, his work will be done by himself.

And what is to be understood is what the importance is of the “merit” that his work comes through others. If so, then this is the phase of the “bread of shame” after all; so of what benefit is this?

And it is to be explained that “others” are called the Achoraim (backside) phase. That there are vessels of Panim  (face), which are called vessels of bestowal, and vessels of Achoraim, which are called vessels of reception. And because of this, before a person is made whole, when he still hasn’t reached the level of “merit,” his work, which is the sacred work, is through the vessels of Panim, which are the vessels of bestowal; with them he can work on the sacred work.

Which is not so when he has merit. Then, his work, which is the sacred work, is done by others, meaning in the vessels of Achoraim, which are the vessels of reception. He can use them for the sake of heaven.

Vessels of the face are called Israel (straight to the Creator), for there are sparks that yearn for the goal of creation in them, even if in the meantime this is for the sake of reception. Their yearning is weak because they do not have great force of desire (Aviut).

And so if they are ready to activate the Achoraim, then they get energy from there to advance towards the goal of creation, to connection, to adhesion. There is an immense power in the vessels of Achoraim, yet it has no direction. This means that they are not directed towards the goal of creation, yet they have lots of energy. And if the vessels of Panim are ready to see that the vessels of Achoraim are theirs, then they join them to themselves and see part of themselves in them.

And that is how they get energy from the Achoraim, and give the right direction to the whole of the complete vessel that is already made up of the desires of Galgalta ve Eynaim and AHP.

And so the right stage follows: The direction comes from the vessels of Galgalta ve Eynaim, the vessels of Israel, and the energy for movement towards the goal of creation comes from the vessels of Achoraim, AHP, directed by Israel. So they reach the goal of creation together.

This is called, “Their work is done by others,” for they get the “work,” the energy for advancement itself, from the vessels of Achoraim. But this is on condition that they see the vessels of Achoraim as an inseparable part of themselves, as a single system.

And if not, then they need to advance through the energy that is in them, in the vessels of Panim. And since this is a weak energy, they are certainly not ready to advance quickly until they finally turn to the vessels of Achoraim.

So they need to sense the time and place where it will be possible to turn to the vessels of Achoraim to connect them to Israel and advance together. They need to acquire experience and build some kind of method to approach them. As it is written: “Train a child according to his way ” (Proverbs 22:6). This means that it is necessary to search for some form to approach people and connect them with us.

To the degree that Israel invests energy in the vessels of Achoraim, to the degree that they feel that everything is part of a single vessel, to this degree they can advance quickly. The feeling of movement comes in the vessels of Panim, but the clarification of the advancement comes specifically with the merit that the vessels of Achoraim is included in them.

At a particular stage of development, humanity finally gets the opportunity to understand his evil egoistic, lowly nature. If we look at it closely, it seems that there is nothing good in us. We perform even the loftiest and most generous deeds with a single goal of exploiting others.

This also happens regarding our beloved children; we do everything only for our own benefit and pleasure. A person is such a great egoist that he acts solely and only in one direction, for himself. He is not capable of performing any other action. The question is, why did nature create us like this?

First of all, it is up to us to be aware of our place in the enormous mechanism of creation. We are found in it like little children who don’t understand what they are doing on this Earth, which is very small in relation to the dimensions of the infinite universe. This Earth is like our children’s room where we break everything like naughty children whose parents left them unattended.

And we suddenly remember that outside of this room there is still a big house and as it seems, the parents are the ones who created us. Nature is not a blind and wild environment because it cannot be that this world appeared by itself and by chance. It seems that there are laws in it that we must study and feel, changing somehow.

The time has come for us to stop running wild like little children, fighting among ourselves all the time. Come, let’s at least stop for a moment and cease quarreling like tenants living in the same apartment. Instead we should see things with a broader view, looking around and seeing what is happening. Maybe we will succeed in finding more meaning in our lives than we do now?

After all, we are suffering from the conflicts between us and don’t see anything good in this life. This question occupies humanity more and more and requires thought. Maybe the time has come to abandon the arrogance and hatred that are not beneficial to anyone?

This is a typical feature of our time. If previously someone thought that he could attain everything through force and dominate the entire world like Genghis Khan, Julius Caesar, Alexander of Macedon, Pharaoh, or Nebuchadnezzar, in our time there are no more great dictators, neither Hitler nor Stalin.

The person of today sees that there is nothing eternal in the world and that everything is over very rapidly. So there is no reason to waste the life that is given to us only once. The person subconsciously reaches conclusions like these and enters into despair.

And yet deep at the bottom of this despair there is a wonderful pearl that can be taken; it is called the month of Elul. This is when we finally begin to understand that everything that is happening is for teaching us something. After such a discovery we already begin with a new development and don’t remain within the mutual conflicts that draw in entire nations. Instead we rise to another level of existence, a sublime level.

The month of Elul is designed for renewed, decisive thinking about our lives. We must feel our present state as intolerable and understand that there cannot be anything else with our egoistic nature. It is up to us to see ourselves in the framework of this enormous and comprehensive nature that is pure and exalted, completely perfect and infinite, and then we will be shocked by our state.

How can it be that a human being with such developed emotion and intelligence that places him above all of creation is found in the lowest, most vile and despicable state of all, harmful to himself and the rest of nature? No other creature is ever so harmful!

All the rest act not according to their intelligence, but obey instincts that are always directed towards the best possible situations. Therefore an animal doesn’t err. The smallest kitten will not fall from a height because it protects itself instinctively, whereas a small child can fall because he doesn’t feel danger.

What results from this is that along with our developed emotion and intelligence we also get freedom of choice and the possibility of using our highest potential to develop correctly or incorrectly. This is the entire problem.

Inanimate nature, plants, and animals do not have the freedom of choice that makes it possible to use emotions and intelligence differently. With them everything is simply directed towards the most self-benefit, here and now. With humans there is nothing like this.

And therefore the human, unlike a cat or dog, can harm himself. Essentially this is what happens. We possess greater intelligence than the rest of the creatures, and yet we use it to our detriment and cannot even understand this. It seems that we want to utilize this intelligence for our own good and the detriment of others. Yet ultimately it follows that we are digging a pit for ourselves.
