12 Tribes Of Israel

laitman_749_02The formation of the 12 tribes of Israel comes from the fact that the entire desire has 12 parts. The desire itself is composed of four phases of development corresponding to the four-letter name of the Creator. Besides that, the desire is divided into 3 lines. And the entire manifestation of this scheme is the Creator.

Four phases times three lines is 12. So the entire society is divided into 12 parts. This is further derived from the time of Jacob. When Jacob was connected to the enormous ego of the next phase, he was “divided” into 12 parts because he could not bear that himself. And all of those called the 12 sons of Jacob began to work on this ego to transform it to altruism and mutual love. That is how the 12 tribes were formed with 12 flags for all the camps.

Question: Does it follow that every leader of a tribe: Judah, Benjamin, Joseph and so forth, is a larger or smaller part of my ego?

Answer: Certainly. A person is a small world! He has everything in him! Every name corresponds to a particular characteristic, and every characteristic has its own unique correction.

Question: What kind of ego did Joseph have, since he was sold into slavery in Egypt: the largest or the smallest?

Answer: Joseph represents the totality of all the types of ego. This means that he didn’t have any ego of his own, so he is called “Joseph the Righteous.” But on the other hand, specifically thanks to the characteristic of the Tzadik (righteous), which does not belong to anyone, he was separated from his brothers. And so he could gather all of their characteristics and enter into Malchut with them, meaning that he could turn to Pharaoh. He gathered them into himself, and so he is called Joseph, which is the symbol of “gathering” (L’Asof).

Anti-Semitic Jews Against The People of Israel

400Question: Are there anti-Semitic Jews against the people of Israel?

Answer:  In the Jewish people who should go with a single head above themselves, when they transcend egoism for the sake of connection and unity, there will always be people who don’t agree to this. This was how it also was in Egypt and in the days of the First Temple, between the First and Second Temple, and in the days of the Second Temple and this was particularly so after the destruction of the Second Temple and the fall of the people from the spiritual height that they had, from the height of love and mutual connection.

Throughout history among the Jews who lived outside the borders of Israel, there were not just a few Jews who supported anti-Semitism; the Inquisition – Jews, close aides to Hitler – Jews, advisers to the American president during the second World War, who prevented the absorption of their European brothers – Jews. The same thing has continued until today because in spite of himself no one wants to feel suffering and hatred within the society he lives in. He wants to blend into this society, wants a normal attitude towards himself and so he will always be for America or for Europe, and against Israel.

None of the Jews who are in the American administration or those of other nations do anything good for Israel. On the contrary, only bad; in this way he shows how objective he is. No Jewish organization, other than a few exceptions, supports Israel. So there is nothing better to expect from them! Lately, just about all of the Jews who live abroad, especially in the United States, have become haters of Israel. They don’t want us to exist because we lead the world into a situation in which they are hated because of us. Whereas they want to live in peace: “Let us work, live and develop in peace and quiet. What do we need Israel for? We have never been there and won’t travel there either.” They feel that they are apparently required to make a choice: either I am a liberal and progressive American, or I am for Israel.

Question: Are the Jews who live outside of Israel able to carry another message?

Answer: No they cannot because the surrounding society determines everything. They will always be against us because they feel how much the existence of Israel is not worthwhile for them; we can never entrust our fate to them. If there were no people, this would mean that there is no dependence on others. But now they feel that they depend on us as condemnations of Israel fall on them from all sides.

We will still see how they direct everyone against us. I am speaking harshly, and it could be that I also am talking before my time, but this will soon be revealed. Unfortunately, these are laws of nature. All of this will be realized, as long as our nation, our people, do not find out and sober up in time and begin to develop a new society. Only when this happens will everything change.

A Flag – Symbol Of An Idea

laitman_610_2Every camp of the twelve tribes of Israel had its own flag. Degel (Flag, Standard) is from the word “Geulah “(Redemption) and “Ledaleg” (Leap), for the people of Israel went out to the wilderness to move from one level to another.

When they began to move, they raised a flag above them, a symbol of the goal that was placed before them. It is impossible to advance without this; there must be a most serious motivation!

In spiritual work, a flag symbolizes the idea of elevation above our ego, absolute dissociation and complete detachment from the ego, using it intentionally for the sake of bestowal. So it is also in the physical world.

For a nation, the flag is a symbol of an idea, like a root and branch. Everything that exists in the spiritual world is reflected in our world, and the person acts this way in spite of himself, even without knowing where this is coming from.

Spiritual Education For The People Of Israel

laitman_938_03Today, we are shouting to the world, “Give us freedom. Leave us alone. Why are you coming to us with boycotts? Why are we hated by all the international organizations? We want to be like everyone else.”

Apparently, the world answers, “No, you are not like everyone else. We cannot relate to you like everyone else.”

We are proud that we warned the Palestinian population in advance about the Israeli Air Force attacks, while they, on the other hand, shoot at us whenever they feel like it, without warning. Why doesn’t the entire world condemn them the way it condemns us? Because, subconsciously they understand our uniqueness!

It could be that humanity is passing through hatred, without full awareness, but in principle, such an approach is real and legitimate.

Question: What do we need to do now when the clouds are gathering around us again?

Answer: What is imperative is a very large wave of education that will cover all of the people of Israel. We need to explain to people what we are, who we are, where we were created, why everyone hates us, and so on.

They must understand the core, the nucleus, of their creation and the purpose of their existence. No one in Israel knows why he exists as a Jew, and why the people of Israel and the State of Israel exist.

Look at what is happening in the government and on all levels! We need to introduce the integral method in society. Otherwise, this is not a people and not a government; it is no one and nothing.

In other nations there is an instinctive aim: we need to live, to work, and to exist together. Nothing is required of them besides survival in the circumstances they are found in.

There are no complaints regarding them from higher nature, whereas for us, on the contrary, nature surrounds us strongly. We are at the center of all of the rest of the nations, and they are all like wolves snarling and baring their teeth at us. In the meantime, the unique force of nature holds and reins them in so that we ultimately will reorganize, and if we don’t do this, the wolves will be released from their chains.

Uniting The Nation Is An Accumulative Process

laitman_570Rav Kook says: “if we are annihilated the world will also be destroyed with us because of unfounded hate; but if we are rebuilt, the world will also be rebuilt with us thanks to selfless love.”

However, on its own, the nation is not going anywhere; it cannot disappear without a trace. Everything depends on the amount of sufferings that we will have to go through in order to understand that we are doing everything wrong.

Question: What else do we need in order to understand things as a nation? I am in contact with many people and I see that people who hear this from you over and over again don’t understand how close we are to another tragedy.

Answer: That’s the way it has always been. In order to change this trend we have to prepare the nation for unity and to try to present it to the nation as a tasty dish with different spices and sauces. So people will at least understand a little about where it all stems from and will begin to participate in different unity events.

So far it seems all such efforts are in vain. In fact it is an accumulative effort during which the internal potential in the people who come, participate, and leave grows as if nothing at all happened. But on the other hand, when nature pressures them and they find themselves in some threatening situation, everything that has sunk in will play an important role and help us unite.

With Our Correction – We Correct The World

A People That Determines The State Of Humanity

laitman_942Question: The people of Israel must show that the one thing that makes a person an Adam (Man) is the quality of internal unity with others. Does this mean that everything external—which is called civilization, technology—must lose its value in our eyes?

Answer: There is a complete collection of laws found in the foundation of the existence of our people. They were established by our father, Abraham, 3,500 years ago. If we begin to implement them, everything will be okay, and, if not, then first and foremost, it will be bad for us and after that, for the entire world.

In a world in which eight billion people live, we are that small group that determines the state of all of humanity, and humanity gradually is beginning to understand and feel this subconsciously.

Whether humanity wants it or not, in any case, it will try to solve this problem, and the problem lies in this: that if we behave incorrectly and become the source of their suffering, then we should be destroyed.

What would we do in anyone else’s place if there were something that caused pain in our hearts? We would try to annihilate it!

So, there is nothing unnatural about Hitlers, Arafats, and Ahmadinejads reaching dominance. Without a doubt, they will continue to appear again and again as long as we behave like this!

Question: Does it follow that we must suffer?

Answer: We must suffer because we have not attained unity, and in this way we are causing the entire world to suffer. Moreover, through our behavior, we arouse and summon sufferings on a higher level.

Question: So, in what way does anti-Semitism help us if it doesn’t bring us to real unity?

Answer: It leads us to unity. Under its pressure, without a choice, we begin to become closer. However, this is just a preliminary unity, compulsory for softening the pressure from above, whereas we need to reach such an understanding of the process when we willingly begin to come closer!

This is imperative for us for our own sake because otherwise we are not a people. We need to begin to unite because with this we bring good to the world, inclusive unity. We become a light to the nations.

Technological Progress And Moral Regression

Laitman_004Today, once again the world faces the same problem that existed in ancient Babylon: humanity is at a dead end on the threshold of a world war, mankind is again sinking into barbarism.

It is interesting that in the past 30 to 40 years scientific, technological, and cultural development of everything that distinguishes a human being from a beast has entered a new stage.

Modern technology gives the least educated person everything he needs: televisions, computers, and mobile phones. Inside he remains a barbarian, and at the same time, he uses such developments of humanity that surpass his internal state by hundreds of years. In turns out that people have regressed.

If 30 to 50 years ago, a person was interested in paintings, books, and music, and had to absorb at least some part of what humanity has done and attained before him, today, this is not so. Everything has been replaced with sending text messages. What do people write to each other? What for?

In my time, children from a village wanted to be intelligent, modern. They were ashamed of their ignorance, whereas today this is not so. It follows that specifically thanks to technology—thanks to having everything and not needing to get anything, not needing to elevate yourself to any level—humanity is returning to barbarism.

Today, we are passing through a particular state called the “recognition of evil.” Who are we? Humanity must recognize its barbarism, which is leading people directly toward annihilation. In parallel to this, the people of Israel must develop the next state of humanity: mutual connection, oneness, and becoming an example for everyone else.

Question: So, in what way are the Jews to blame?

Answer: We should have begun our work from the period humanity began to leave the Middle Ages, from the time of the Ari at the end of the 16th century.

It was precisely then that technological advancement began, which should have been accompanied by moral development so that a person would know why this had been given into his hands, and instead of this, a person became a barbarian with an iPhone.

Question: To where must the Jews bring this barbaric mass? Is it to oneness, to love?

Answer: Today, we Jews are no less barbaric than all the rest. So, first and foremost, we need to bring ourselves to unity. We are in a very great descent relative to the level we must comply with.

Question: But at all times, the Jews have aspired for a better world: they invented socialism, the idea of equality.

Answer: They didn’t invent anything. The idea of equality has been latent in them from the beginning. This process began 3,500 years ago from around the time Abraham gathered people who wanted to know the meaning of life, “We will not be slaves to our ego. We will rise up against it, each one within himself and all of us together.”

Since this is in the foundation of our development, we haven’t done anything unique.

Question: So, how can humanity remain barbaric if an idea like this is latent in it?

Answer: Relative to the same level in which we existed 2,000 years ago, beginning from Abraham to the destruction of the Second Temple, today we are barbarians. We don’t eat each other in the literal sense; we do this through our desires and intentions.

We don’t understand that everything that is happening in the world depends on us, and we can correct this by showing ourselves as an example of a completely different existence.

Anti-Semitism: A Strange Contradiction

laitman_224Question: When we speak about anti-Semitism, one must point out one interesting phenomena: those same anti-Semites who hate Jews fiercely, at the same time love them.

For example, Voltaire wrote about the Jews, “They are the rudest of all people, the most hated of all our neighbors. All of them are born with intense fanaticism in the hearts. I wouldn’t be surprised if these people will one day become a real disaster for the whole of humanity.”

Together with this, the same Voltaire confessed his love for the Jewish people: “ I love them so much that I would like them to be in Jerusalem, instead of the Turks who completely bankrupted and destroyed their country. Work the miserable land as you never worked it before, raise the land to the exposed peaks of your demolished mountains…”

Similarly Tolstoy and Chekhov spoke contradictorily about Jews, as did other writers and thinkers. It is said that there is only one step from love to hate, and we don’t even have to take this step since love and hate are woven together to such an extent.

Answer: These are two sides of the same person. And both sides, hatred and a special respect, which are completely, mutually dependent, mutual constants and are seen by all enlightened and caring people toward the Jews.

Question: Actually, during the course of history, all of the steps against the Jews were taken as if in order to protect them, “We love them. We want to ensure their safety, so do not carry weapons, do not become involved in certain professions, and live in the ghetto.” Also today, the movement of boycotts against Israel are accompanied by declarations of love, and at the same time pressure us.

Answer: I personally welcome this kind of love since I see in this a special revelation of upper Providence that wants the Jews to implement their universal mission for the world and to carry out everything that they need to do. Anti-Semitism is very helpful to Zionists. If there weren’t anti-Semitism in Russia, then there wouldn’t be Zionists, and the same thing goes for the rest of the nations.

Furthermore, in the Torah it is written that without the hatred of the nations of the world toward Israel, the Jews would have ceased to be a nation a long time ago. Thus, this hatred is needed exactly, as in the relationships of parents to their beloved children. There is mercy and there is judgment, meaning two hands, the left and the right. The left hand sometimes punishes, and the right caresses and hugs.

Question: Where in man does the hatred appear toward Jews and why is it so difficult for him to control it?

Answer: Where there is the revelation of love toward the Jewish nation, toward their worldview or religion, know that, shortly after, will come hatred. Conversely, if you see the hatred in the nations of the world, soon it will change for the better to expressions of love.

This is manifested not only between peoples and nations, but also between many nations and the Jews. For example, after WWII, after the Holocaust, a different attitude toward the Jews appeared, “We must give the Jews a place to live, a nation, to make sure they are in charge.” This is absolutely the clear upper providence that is not dependent on people or nations. This has been observed in an exact way during the entire course of human history.

There is nothing psychological about this. It is simply the general upper providence, super human, that is above our world and is leading it to ascend above itself to the next level, to the spiritual world of forces.

It is not the material world, but the world of forces. It is the Jews who need to specify this path since it is only with them that there is the initial experience for uniting, under the instruction of Abraham, and ascending to this level. Thus, they are called a special nation with a unique quality that is not connected to the rest of the seventy nations of the world.

On The Shoulders Of The Great Kabbalists

laitman_940Question: Is there anything left of the great work of Kabbalists throughout history?

Answer: Of course! We are standing on their shoulders and therefore we seem to be so strong and clever. But we have nothing that is ours! Everything we have received is from the Kabbalists of the past, and now we can add to the foundations that they have laid.

This will be done in two ways: first and foremost there should be wide dissemination of the method of unity among the people living in Israel and among the Jews all over the world.

On the other hand, the external pressure coming from Europe, America, Russia and all the other countries in the form of different boycotts will increase.

Eventually, the external pressure and the internal dissemination explaining why this is happening and how we can change things will influence the people and they will understand that the only way to accomplish anything is by correcting ourselves.

The only way we can protect ourselves is by developing ourselves and by bringing the attributes of connection, love, and bestowal to the world. We have to discover everything on ourselves and among us, and then waves of unity and love will spread from us to all the nations of the world.

What Does The Torah Speak About?

laitman_527_05Question: Did the events described in the Torah really take place in this world? In one of your programs you said that we have to go through the whole story of the Torah inside ourselves.

Answer: Of course, all the words in the Torah took place in this world because every upper spiritual root has to develop and eventually touch its material branch.

This is why we went through the entire process in this world: Adam HaRishon and all further generations up to Abraham, and further on through our forefathers Isaac and Jacob, Jacob’s sons, then lowering to Egypt, Moshe, Aaron, the standing at the Mount Sinai, the entrance to the land of Israel, conquering the land of Israel, the destruction of the First and the Second Temples, etc.

Anything we have been through in this world is only one side of the picture. The most important thing is our current state and what events described in the Torah we still have to go through.

The Torah is not about historic events; rather, it is about what we are supposed to correct after Adam HaRishon’s sin. As a result of our correction, we will attain the spiritual world that is eternal and endless; it is here and now, as soon as we agree to go through the process of correction, as is written: “You shall see your world during your lifetime.”
