Question: In what way is your organization unique and different from other organizations?

Answer: We are different not only from other groups and methods but from all of humanity, from the whole nature of this world, because it is totally egoistic.

Today, everyone in our world wants to control others and swallow them, whereas we want to ascend to the next level of our development, which is defined as love and bestowal. This means absolute altruism, when a person performs acts of bestowal unto the world not because he is born that way, since we were all born as egoists, but because this is what the Creator tells us to do, not for one’s self.

We are opposite and different from all the religions, beliefs, and philosophies because the wisdom of Kabbalah teaches a person how to devote himself to the world by performing the main commandment of the Torah, to love thy friend as thyself. We must first exit ourselves in order to do it.

It is enough to take a look at what happens in our society in order to find out that everyone has actually abandoned the main commandment of the Torah of love thy friend as thyself and everyone cares only about their self interest. This is the reason that we seem so strange and why people don’t understand us.

The wisdom of Kabbalah teaches a person how to change his nature from receiving to bestowal and how to discover the upper world and the Creator in the attribute of bestowal. When a person starts to study he doesn’t understand that yet because once he realizes that he has to go against himself he is offended and may turn against us and the wisdom of Kabbalah and even become our rival.

This is the reason that there are so few who study and acquire this wisdom and reveal the Creator.

In the News (nature.com): “A team of physicists has provided some of the clearest evidence yet that our Universe could be just one big projection.

“In 1997, theoretical physicist Juan Maldacena proposed that an audacious model of the Universe in which gravity arises from infinitesimally thin, vibrating strings could be reinterpreted in terms of well-established physics. The mathematically intricate world of strings, which exist in nine dimensions of space plus one of time, would be merely a hologram: the real action would play out in a simpler, flatter cosmos where there is no gravity.

“Maldacena’s idea thrilled physicists because it offered a way to put the popular but still unproven theory of strings on solid footing — and because it solved apparent inconsistencies between quantum physics and Einstein’s theory of gravity. It provided physicists with a mathematical Rosetta stone, a ‘duality’, that allowed them to translate back and forth between the two languages, and solve problems in one model that seemed intractable in the other and vice versa … . My Comment: According to Kabbalah, there is nothing but the 10 Sefirot (Root and the 4 letter name of the Creator, these are 5 Sefirot. One of them, ZA, consists of 6, thus 10). And yet, all that you can imagine is the private view of the 10 Sefirot, because each of the Sefirot is divided into 10 of its sub-Sefirot, etc.

Thus, we believe: 5 worlds, five Partzufim, 5 Sefirot ‑ total 125 degrees from our world to the world of Infinity. All stages have the same structure, and the difference between them is only in the clarity of details of disclosure of the Creator in the world. The higher the level, the more detailed it is and the more clearly it reveals the Creator.

Comment: Ohio State University conducted research on atheists and believers. According to the results of the study, a person who doesn’t believe in God is likely callous and manipulative. And a person who is a believer has more characteristics associated with compassion, understanding, and sympathy for others.

Atheists are also dominated by psychopathic traits associated with lack of emotional response to pain of other people’s suffering, etc.

Answer: There are many different nuances that express the differences between believers and non-believers in our world. But all of them operate egoistically.

They simply have different models of behavior. These perceive the world according to their value system and those according to their value system. In both cases, this system is egoistic, so in relation to the wisdom of Kabbalah, they are, in fact, equivalent. The only thing is that the believer is more difficult to convince that he is living according to egoistic laws because he believes that he is living correctly.

Faith in the wisdom of Kabbalah is a completely different property than the “faith” of religious people. With them, faith is the acceptance of the existence of a higher power, and if I follow the rules that seem to be detailed in the Torah, I will earn the world to come. In contrast, a person who is a non-believer (secular) believes only in the payoff that he will get directly in this world. This is the entire difference.

In The Book of Zohar, there is a description of three types of awe (fear). The first type of awe is typical of an ordinary secular person (non-believer) who is concerned about everything being okay for him in this world. The second type of awe is that of a religious person (believer) who is concerned about his life in this world and in the next world after death.

The third type of fear is typical of the Kabbalist who only yearns to be like the Creator, meaning that he will have a characteristic of bestowal and love for others without receiving anything in exchange since being like the Creator is his reward.

Everyone thinks that the wisdom of Kabbalah is a part of religion, but it has nothing to do with religion. The wisdom of Kabbalah brings a person to fulfill the law of the Torah, “And you shall love your friend as yourself” (Leviticus 19:18), which all the others not only don’t touch upon, but don’t even talk about.

Although they give lip service to “Love thy neighbor,” nobody thinks that this is the main general rule toward which all implementation, resolution, and realization of the Torah is directed.

Question: Is it important to re-read Kabbalistic texts over and over again?

Answer: No, not necessarily. Read what you enjoy, what is close to you, so that you will feel that the text is written for you. Basically you don’t have to do it at all. In principle, it does not matter what you read from the true Kabbalistic sources, because the most important thing—is your aspiration to the Light that you feel in your heart.

You will gradually feel that you are getting closer to the Creator in response to your yearning—to feel it above the problems, that are brought by the same force, so that you will turn to Him. After an appeal to Him, the problems disappear, there is a short respite, and again a problem, and then your aspiration to the Creator.

Everything stems from the Creator and everything is solved by getting closer to Him.

Question: Should I unite with the friends if I want to solve a certain problem and then read a book together in order to summon the positive force?

Answer: Yes, the solution to the problem is in the connection with friends, but this doesn’t mean that you are free from solving it on the level of our world.

You cannot solve corporeal problems in a spiritual way only. You have to actually act physically, and the solution will come through your connection with the friends and the Creator.

People have been developing for thousands of years, and at some point they start to awaken the question of the meaning of existence; it is the main concern of a person if he has raised a bit above the animal level.

People don’t evolve like animals, which actually don’t change from one generation to the next. The desires of each generation change as every generation feels the desires of the next level of development and the feeling of emptiness constantly grows. Consequently, the question about the meaning of life begins to preoccupy us more and more.

We suddenly begin to wonder about things we hadn’t thought of before, and the sciences also develop according to the questions that come up in every generation because the questions that preoccupy a person in the 20^th century are different from the questions that concerned him in the 10^th century.

The question about the meaning of life that is manifested in humanity at a certain point is revealed only to certain individuals. Throughout human history there were special people in whom the question about the meaning of life arose that led people to compose music, literature, poetry, and to paint pictures. All this pushed us forward, developing science, technology, and machinery. A person not only aspired egoistically to a better material life, but also searched for the meaning of life.

Our desires are upgraded according to a scale of desires. First, the desires that are associated with our corporeal existence awaken: desires for food, sex, and family. Then human desires emerge, which are associated with internal fillings: desires for wealth, power, and knowledge. All the desires are transformed from one generation to the next and become finer, sharper, and more internal.

People began to feel the question about the meaning of life at the end of the Middle Ages and the beginning of the Renaissance. The technological, scientific, and cultural revolutions in Europe were the trigger for the emergence of a totally new attitude to life and religion.

People no longer feared to be non-religious or to be prosecuted for dissent, which means that the ego grew to such an extent that a person could longer act like stereotypes anymore.

In the beginning of Introduction to The Study of the Ten Sefirot, Baal HaSulam writes: Indeed, if we set our hearts to answer but one very famous question, I am certain that all these questions and doubts as to whether we should study the wisdom of Kabbalah will vanish from the horizon, and you will look unto their place to find them gone. This indignant question is a question that the whole world asks, namely, “What is the meaning of my life?” So this question remains unanswered.

We may say that everything that happens today is because we cannot find an answer to the question about the meaning of life. We can see what humanity engages in and what it leads the world to! And it is all because people don’t understand what they exist for. “In other words, these numbered years of our life that cost us so heavily, and the numerous pains and torments that we suffer for them, to complete them to the fullest, who is it who enjoys them? The years that we spend, we spend searching, chasing, and suffering or even more precisely, who do I delight by living the way I do?” No one! It is indeed true that historians have grown weary contemplating it, and particularly in our generation. No one even wishes to consider it.

Why should I be preoccupied with the meaning of life if I understand that I will not find an answer? It is better to abuse drugs or alcohol in order to suppress the internal question that makes a person feel worthless.

After all an animal doesn’t ask that question, it simply exists by fulfilling its basic desires for food, sex, and family, while desires for wealth, power, and knowledge do not exist in the animal nature. It is the same with humans on that level so it is easier for them to live, while people in whom human desires develop feel miserable.

Yet the question stands as bitterly and as vehemently as ever. Sometimes it meets us uninvited, pecks at our minds and humiliates us to the ground before we find the famous ploy of flowing mindlessly in the currents of life as always.

That’s what we are trying to do subconsciously. We eat sleep, work, meet with friends, watch a football game, engage in hobbies, only to keep ourselves busy and avoid asking this question. After all, this question is worse than death; death is a momentary solution to the problem while one can live with this question for a very long time and come to nothing at the end except for self-torture.

This is the reason that Baal HaSulam specifically chose this topic as the introduction to his book Talmud Eser Sefirot. In this introduction he wants to show that a person doesn’t need any special thoughts or high goals in order to study the wisdom of Kabbalah.

If he feels bad, doesn’t know what he is living for, and this question keeps bothering him—because he cannot live for no reason and has to justify his life—then he has to discover the wisdom of Kabbalah because it actually provides the answer to the meaning of his personal life.

Question: The famous British astrophysicist Stephen Hawking believes that in order for the human species to continue to exist, it must settle on other planets. He is convinced that in another 100 years we will live on Mars, we will get energy from black holes, and we will create our own black holes. Hawking has lots of vitality and imagination.

Answer: Of course, these are fantasies. So, it would seem that we have had enough of life on Earth and we would run away from it to Mars. Then, we would jump from Mars to other planets and leave behind us everywhere the same civilization that we have on Earth.

What would force us to leave Earth and move to living on Mars? Our miserable, wretched development! So, would we run away from ourselves to Mars, establishing a colony there identical to the one on Earth? Why do we need to do this? What do we need energy from black holes for? Must we make black holes inside ourselves?

Without a person’s changing, there is nowhere to move! What is the point?!

Hawking is always dreaming that the conquest of heavenly bodies, which are actually stones, will provide humanity with happiness.

I remember how I dreamt about other planets in my childhood. I was ready to fly there and not come back.

Then what? What for? How would that be beneficial?

Suppose that I landed on Mars. I would go out, look around, and see that everything is empty and quiet. What would we do there? Would we reproduce in space suits? Would we sit in hermetically sealed houses?

Relationships between us would remain the same as they are on Earth. Well, we would duplicate the Earth in some additional forms? Unhappy Earth!

As long as we don’t change humanity, we have nowhere to go. Why do we need to spread the infection across the cosmos? Does this sum up the dream of the astrophysics? I don’t understand this scientist!

Question: Can the same text or the same book be understood differently when reading it again? If so, what is the reason for that?

Answer: It depends only on the person because two people who read the same book are in totally different states.

The book was written by a Kabbalist who felt the spiritual world and expressed his impressions from his high level in words, sentences, and characters. Therefore, while reading the Kabbalistic text, we must resemble that Kabbalist as much as we can in order to feel, at least to some extent, the state he was in.

At the same time, we do everything that we can to fulfill what is said in the writings with the help of our teacher, according to the advice given to Kabbalah students to get together, read from Kabbalah sources, and then discuss these topics.

We must focus on Kabbalistic sources and yearn to resemble the spiritual vessels as much as we can in our relationships in the complete connection between us when we get together, ten people studying from a source. We should try to attain the spiritual root, which means the height of the person who wrote it.

We must connect and resemble the spiritual state, expecting the same Light to affect us that the Kabbalist discovered and described in his writings.

Question: What’s your opinion about Albert Einstein, was he a great physicist, a philosopher, or maybe a Kabbalist?

Answer: I would say that Einstein is somewhat of a Kabbalist and that’s why he introduced the concept of relativity, more precisely  relative to the observer, a person, and thus introduced into science, into the world, the concept of the relativity of our perceptions, knowledge, and life.

It all depends on the observer from his or her properties—and this is exactly the Kabbalistic evaluation of man on the person himself with respect to the absolute, the Creator, the property of complete communication (bestowal of love), all the (opposite) parts, and the properties of nature.

And besides, everything we perceive is perceived by the person, in relation to the person, and as if what exists outside of a person doesn’t matter. The wisdom of Kabbalah speaks about what we achieve, and so, specifically, it is the science and foundation of all sciences.

My Comment: The revolution is in understanding a new picture of the world that will change all the values of humanity and reshape its consciousness. People will not live for the sake of work. The existence of the human body will not be primary, but will be a means for attaining the spiritual level, the highest eternal existence; people will not be egoistic, but will have an altruistic attitude toward the world.

Our development will necessarily lead us to this new level. This picture has been revealed to the Kabbalists and it should begin to be revealed to the masses in this generation.

Question: Why do you believe that only the wisdom of Kabbalah gives a correct and true answer to the questions about the meaning of life, building a family, human society, and education?

Answer: Simply because that is at the same level; as a consequence of the nature that created it, a person cannot reach the need to become aware of the question about the meaning of life, all the more so in solving it when he himself is within nature.

Einstein talked about this when he said that in order to jump on a table, one must jump above the table. What this means is that we need a system that is “above ourselves.” This is what the wisdom of Kabbalah provides. By studying its wisdom, it becomes possible to attract the power that will elevate us, the Ohr Makif (Surrounding Light).
