Depression And The Meaning Of Life

198Remark: Billions of people who were staying at home during quarantine are now slowly coming out of it. At the same time, a lot of problems arise with a person’s psychology, with finding where to work and what to do. Psychologists say that the main thing is that reducing the pace of life will make us think about how and why we live.

In fact, they say the main problem is when a person begins to think about the meaning of life, what he is living for.

My Comment: This is natural. When he sees his life both in quarantine and without quarantine, before the coronavirus and after the coronavirus, and with new viruses, he will still start to feel, “What is happening to me? Why is nature playing with me?” This is where we need to start organizing a person.

Question: What will you tell him so he would hear, would suddenly feel the light at the end of the tunnel?

Answer: Nature is offering us an ultimate solution: You, all of you together, will have to correct yourself to the likeness to nature, that is, to create a good human community on this Earth. Through the correction of relationships between people, you will begin to feel our world as infinite, eternal perfection.

Question: Should education be directed toward this?

Answer: Nurture the relationship between people so that you create harmonious common humanity.

Remark: I was running around all the time, looking for work, filling myself with work. And now you are telling me, “You came to a halt. Stop. None of this will exist. Start thinking about how to build good connections between people.”

My Comment: Yes. This is the work. This is precisely the work of a person!

Question: Are you referring this to each person?

Answer: Absolutely everyone.

Question: Not only to those who manage people?

Answer: No. To all people. There is no management here. There is more mutual help than management here.

Question: Does it mean that the simplest, most inconspicuous person begins to think, how do I build good relationships with other people—with the inner circle, the far circle, and so on?

Answer: Yes.

Question: Do you call this work?

Answer: Of course.

Question: Should he receive some kind of compensation for this? After all, he must have something to live on.

Answer: He will receive compensation. Human society will be arranged in such a way that it will be paying for this, giving everyone a kind of stipend.

Question: That is, a person is paid for building good connections with others? This is something new, this is a revolution for humanity.

Answer: Why? This is work! Perhaps you will be able to measure it.

Question: Will humanity agree to this? After all, someone has to pay for this.

Answer: It will have to agree.

Question: Firstly, where can we get money to pay people for such work, which, in principle, was not considered work before?

Answer: Money is printed; there are no problems with this. We can print notes or maybe tokens.

People will work at necessary-for-society enterprises, which will be constantly reorganized so that they are as environmentally friendly as possible. That’s it!

Let’s say that 20% of people, constantly replacing one another, will have to work at these enterprises that produce what people need. Only for people and only what people need. They will spend all the rest of the time and effort on creating a correct connection between themselves.

Question: To do this, a person will have to study. As you already said, 20% of the people will be working, replacing each other. And 80% will be sitting at desks, from young to old. Will they be paid for learning how to build good connections with each other?

Answer: Yes. There will be a necessary living standard and that is it. And there will be a very kind, good atmosphere.

Question: There will be no depression?

Answer: No. First of all, envy will disappear. Envy will remain only in the form of, “Can I do as much for society as others, and not less?” Meaning, positive envy.

Question: In what will a person feel the meaning of life then?

Answer: He will attain the Creator in a correct connection between him and the others. This is the reward that is more elevated and perfect than any other. He will feel his life as eternal, perfect, and complete.

Question: Why will the Creator come to a person the moment he builds good connections with others? Why will the Creator be revealed to him?

Answer: According to the law of equivalence of form between the Creator and a person who builds himself in good relationships with others.

Question: Let’s say that the Creator is revealed to me, to the ordinary person. What does it mean for me? What is it?

Answer: The feeling that you exist in an eternal, perfect space. The entire cosmos, everything around you, feels like your home, your eternal, perfect state. You perceive this not through your body, not through your animalistic state, but rather through another, more elevated state, which is called “soul.” This is natural and accessible to everyone.

I am sure that this will become a very urgent need in the coming years.

Managing Stress, Part 4

514.02Targeted Pressure

Question: There are different types of stress. For example, professional stress is associated with conflicts at work. Marital stress arises around problems in the family. Emotional stress can be caused by some kind of intense experience. Physiological stress arises from trauma or illness, and psychological stress from dissatisfaction with oneself or relationships with other people. Information stress is caused by information overload and environmental stress from unfavorable living conditions.

Can a condition cause stress when a person is looking for the meaning of life and does not find it?

Answer: Of course. After all, stress is a feeling of indecision, the inability to connect the desired with the attainable. Any little thing can be stressful. If for example, I open a drawer and don’t find my glasses there, then this already causes me some stress.

Stress is the mismatch between what is desired and what is being realized. Naturally, today’s life consists of only stress.

Question: It turns out that nature has placed us in a reality where there is always pressure on desire. If you imagine yourself as a kind of desire to receive, to be filled, to enjoy, then satisfaction is achieved extremely rarely because desires are constantly growing and it becomes more and more difficult to fill them. Where is this all going?

Answer: To the realization of how we get out of this state, what it depends on, what it leads to.

Question: Can I be in such a state where nothing presses on me or I do not feel this pressure?

Answer: No, such a state gradually passes and is replaced by the feeling that something presses on you in a certain direction, and this pressure has a beginning and an end, it has a meaning, and you must comprehend, reveal this meaning. Only then can you get rid of the pressure.

And then you begin to feel that if this pressure should lead you to a higher state, then you do not need to get rid of it. You just need to understand to where you have to come. And then for you it will already be felt not as pressure, but as an accompaniment in your development.

Question: It turns out that a person begins to feel physiological and psychological pressures as targeted? Moreover, they are not only personal, but global, for example, a financial crisis or a pandemic. Many people do not understand that there is some kind of design in this.

Answer: We are moving toward a state where everyone will find themselves in a huge general crisis, not understanding how we can exist. Moreover, it will be felt not by one person, or one family, or some small society, but the whole world. The coronavirus should lead us to this.

laitman_559Stress: Disease or Habit

Question: There are three main stages of stress. The first is the stage of anxiety. It is said that it is a positive one because it mobilizes the  body’s defense forces to fight the stress.

The second stage is adaptation. If the person’s body at the psychological or physiological level does not adapt to this pressure, then the stress passes into the third stage, the stage of depletion of the body’s resources, and the person begins to get sick.

Do you agree with this?

Answer: In general, yes. However, the fact is that a person gets so used to this state that he no longer imagines himself operating outside of the feeling of stress. He needs something to cheer him up, put him in his place, and shake him up. Therefore, stress becomes as if necessary, meaning a part of life, a habit.

Comment: It turns out that stress in the first stages causes a person to aim to achieve some goal. When he does not achieve it, it makes him depressed. They say that all diseases are caused by nerves.

My Response: This is absolutely correct. Nerves regulate the entire organism. The state of various systems of the body, their mutual, well-coordinated work, depends on them. Therefore, they cause all diseases.

Question: Can a person experiencing stress be considered sick?

Answer: Stress is not a long-term disease. It can be short and impulsive. However, it is, of course, a disease.

Question: Is stress related to the development of psychosomatic diseases, or is the cause of disease in another area?

Answer: In principle, stress depends only on a lack of confidence. If confidence disappears, then there is stress.

The Era Of Stress, Part 1

The Virus Should Have Appeared

273.02Question: In what situations should a person follow the majority and in which the opinion of one person?

Answer: I don’t think that in our time when the mass media have great power, there are such concepts as the majority and the minority. After all, those who have the media in their hands, they practically have the future of society and humanity. Those in power have long understood this, and all this is at their mercy.

But the fact is that, on the one hand, this is what a person in our world wants to hold in his hands. On the other hand, the world still moves according to its own system.

Therefore, upon exiting the coronavirus, we will see that nature will not allow us to restore past production, past commodity-money relations. They have to change. Man is still changing, he will not strive for the past state, no matter how much the rich and those in power want it.

Question: Do you still hope for a change due to some external factors?

Answer: Maybe these are not external factors, but they already exist in society.

Comment: Indeed, when the coronavirus appeared, no one could have assumed that such changes would occur in society.

My Response: Yes. We can scold China or someone else who, in our opinion, was the cause of the virus, but this is not the point. The real reason is higher than our nature, higher than what we know. This virus had to appear as humanity brought itself into a crisis.

Question: Do you think it is correct to use public opinion polls for decision making?

Answer: In general, yes. At least they talk about how correct or not the processing of public consciousness is and how much public consciousness, after everything that happens to society and what it is stuffed with, comes to the right decision. So this data is very important. Whether they are correct or not is another question.

Female Commander

566.02Comment: During the pandemic, studies were conducted and found that countries led by women were more successful in fighting the pandemic than those led by men.

My Response: I talk about it all the time. Men are about appearance. And the woman takes full responsibility. Just as a woman rules everything at home, so our whole world is our home. Therefore, there must be a female majordomo.

Comment: Psychologists at Stanford University said that a female politician should belong to the “chameleon” type, skillfully combining male and female political qualities.

My Response: That’s all she has. Look at how a woman commands the house, what order she has at home. Leave your husband alone for a week—and then she’ll be cleaning the apartment for a month. This is clear to everyone.

Question: So it’s not news to you that women are running the country?

Answer: This is a fact for me! This is given to us by nature. The house is named after the woman, not the man. Therefore, we must make women the managers of countries and men the executors of these duties. In short, you need a strong, reliable, good, smart, wise female hand. That’s all. The world doesn’t need anything else. We’ll go fishing and play dominoes. 🙂

Question: Will a woman stop war? Will this stop hatred?

Answer: Sure. And internal wars, both in the state and between states. We are turning over in our time. We are entering a very different era in which a woman can command. And we see the world turning over. It is necessary to give women the opportunity to manage. And this is very good! The less men meddle with their inventions, children’s games, the better.

“A Spark Of Light When Life No Longer Makes Sense” (Medium)

Medium published my new article “A Spark of Light When Life No Longer Makes Sense

Stress, fear, loneliness and economic hardship are exacerbated by Covid-19. How will those feelings increase the risk for higher suicide rates is still a subject of study, but mental health organizations already see signs of a potential increase of the so-called “deaths of despair,” including drug overdose and suicide. Society cannot bury its head in the sand any longer. It needs to prepare for what lies ahead and organize the conditions to support those in need through care, warmth, and mutual responsibility.

Boundless satisfaction cannot be achieved by any one of us alone. It can be achieved only through a good connection with others, and this creates the necessary “field” where the eternal source of fulfillment can be revealed.

After six months of the pandemic, we thought the virus’ behavior and impact had already been sorted out. However, the global plague keeps surprising the scientific community with new mutations, and new symptoms and side effects. Until a cure is discovered, uncertainty will continue to reign and more difficult times can be expected.

As many as 75,000 more Americans could be added to the death toll of the pandemic, not due to natural causes but because they decided to end their own lives, according to an analysis by a national public health group. Suicide rates in the United States have risen by 35 percent overall since the year 2000, according to official data. Historically, economic distress — particularly deep recessions like the one experienced in 2008 — have almost doubled the number of people who cut their lives short out of hopelessness. We have entered a new stage in humanity, a new era in which we must be connected to each other through positive reciprocal bonds, where everyone in society acts toward others like a loving mother embracing her dear child.

Suicide is the worst decision a person can take. A desperate person reaches this most extreme resolution in order to escape the pain. In the minds of those who commit such extreme acts, life becomes a burden worth getting rid of, an ordeal without satisfaction. By doing so, they disregard the pain they inflict on their family and friends and manifest complete unwillingness to accept the conditions granted by life.

They seemingly run out of strength to demand what they consider they are entitled to have in life, whatever it is. Instead of involving others to help work on finding solutions together, the suicidal person retreats into his own self-absorbed thoughts and whirlwind of emotions.

While suicide appears to be the most personal of decisions, we carry a collective responsibility as a society for failing to create the necessary conditions for people to live healthy and happy lives. Such conditions would prevent people from reaching the ultimate state of despair, anguish and pain that takes them to the point where they feel life no longer makes sense.

We must create mechanisms of mutual responsibility to guarantee that each person’s most basic needs are met in order to be sure that each person has the essentials necessary for dignified existence.

The Light after the Darkness

One should always be aware that whatever torments arise, they are given for our personal advancement, for the purpose of correcting our egoistic nature of self-gratification above any other consideration. Such low states of depression awaken the deepest point hidden within each of us, a spark aimed at a higher level of existence where the dark void is filled.

As foremost Kabbalist Rav Yehuda Ashlag (Baal HaSulam) writes, “In every person, even in the secular, there is an unknown spark that demands unification with God. When it sometimes awakens, it awakens one to know God, or deny God, which is one and the same. If someone generates the satisfaction of this desire in that person, he will agree to everything.” (The Solution)

Boundless satisfaction cannot be achieved by any one of us alone. It can be achieved only through a good connection with others, and this creates the necessary “field” where the eternal source of fulfillment can be revealed.

What is the right approach to helping someone in despair? We should not overwhelm them with exaggerated sympathy or patronize them. We simply need to express care, listen, be next to them, show them that they are not alone and they can count on their friends and family.

We need to share with someone in despair the thought that there is light after the darkness. In the same way, every gloomy state is the preparation for a better reality, the perception of a new, positive state, since there is no filling without a lack. That new state of feeling that we are understood, protected, and embraced is waiting and will give us renewed passion for life and expand our horizons toward a meaningful life filled with meaning and purpose, joy and abundance.

Managing Stress, Part 2

laitman_538In the World of Disturbances

Comment: Scientists believe that today’s life is full of stressful situations. A person rushes to work and drops off children to daycare on the way. Because of this, they may be late for work, which leads to conflicts, they may be fired, and so on. However, only 100 to 200 years ago, such things did not exist.

My Response: We can define stress that a person experiences as a force of huge external pressure.

We live in a world of disturbances that press on a person every second. Besides, our life is very artificial. Previously, a person understood in a natural way where he was and what was happening around him. He had a home and family, worked in the fields, in the garden, and so on.

Today, however, he is surrounded by such a huge field of completely different sources of pressure that cause him not just a lack of understanding of the situation, but a reaction to it in the form of stress.

The Way Out Of The Vicious Cycle

962.8Question: If public service advertising of anti-egoistic values were carried out from morning to evening, would it affect a person somehow?

Answer: It depends on the advertising. It should be made in such a way that the person sees that it is profitable for him, that it is worth it to be so.

For example, we show that this is the way of life of people in prison, and this is the way of life of sick people, and this is such and such, and at the same time we show the consequences of all bad habits and actions of people at all levels: women, men, adults, even children. In general, this is a preventive parenting program.

Question: In principle, there were societies where excesses were not valued, considered a sin. Is this theoretically possible?

Answer: In my opinion, this is necessary. The only question is who will do it.

Question: There is nothing more important for a person than the opinion of others. Public opinion is formed through the media. But that is in the hands of the rich. How can they advertise anti-consumer values?

Answer: In the post-coronavirus era, this issue is particularly acute.

Comment: In other words, they are trying to bring us back to the consumer society.

My Response: The rich have no other choice. They understand that otherwise they will have nothing left. If people begin to be satisfied with normal needs, then 80% of what humanity produces will be unnecessary, and it will stop producing it.

Naturally, we will save nature, the air will become cleaner, and it will be comfortable for us to live in such an environment: easier, cooler or warmer, etc. And from what exactly will the owners get rich?

Question: This is a vicious cycle. During the first wave of the pandemic, people did not learn anything. Public opinion has not changed. It is in the hands of the media, and the media is in the hands of the rich. And it is not profitable for them to change their current values because they need to continue earning. So what’s the solution? How can a person change society?

Answer: Society needs to work on its mistakes. People need to understand that going back to the past means repeating the same mistakes and inevitably leads to an even bigger crisis. Now that society has suffered such a blow, it must learn something from it.

Question: Do you think that suffering will still make some changes in a person?

Answer: Undoubtedly. They will do it gradually. Even if society does not change itself, at least it will become more receptive to the words of those who propagate the method of changing the world.

Managing Stress, Part 1

002Stress is a Loss of Orientation in the Modern World

Remark: Stress is the mobilization of the body’s resources, a state of increased tension, as a protective reaction to various adverse factors. The physiologist Hans Selye was one of the first to introduce the term “stress” only 70 years ago. It seems that before this, either people did not have stress, or they just did not know what it was.

My Comment: Back then, people were not developed enough to feel stressed.

Question: In psychology, stress includes the concepts of anxiety, conflict, a threat to one’s own “I.” How would you define stress from the point of view of Kabbalah?

Answer: Stress is a feeling of great inner tension due to the loss of clear orientation.

Question: Indeed, loss of orientation is exactly what is happening today. If we turn to history, did people experience stress 1,000 to 5,000 years ago?

Answer: No, people did not feel stressed. They had slightly different preferences in life. They understood what could happen: death, starvation, suffering from cold, or some other factors.

These were very simple, corporeal problems of a completely different level of perception. People did not consider things that seem terrible to us today to be anything out of the ordinary, even when they were led to execution or burned at the stake.

Remark: In my understanding, stress is a state when I really want to receive something for a long time, but I cannot. This already causes discomfort and strong dissonance.

My Comment: Yes, this is also stress but of a different type, not an immediate, but a prolonged one.

Remark: The cause of stress can be any conflicting situation, or dissatisfaction with your appearance, or routine life, or long-term chronic diseases, and so on.

My Comment: The reasons can be very diverse when the desired and the actual do not match.

The Laws We Are About To Reveal

laitman_448.1Question: Over the past several hundred years, we have discovered more than 200 physical laws. In addition, there are also social laws that we have invented ourselves: ethics, civil laws, and even religious laws and traditions.

Can we assume that the reason for all our crises and sufferings lies in the fact that we have artificially invented these laws?

Answer: Yes, I absolutely agree.

Question: What does it mean to follow the laws of nature?

Answer: Unfortunately, we do not follow the laws of nature but our egoism, which puts us against nature and does everything to ensure that we destroy it.

Question: So, we have yet to reveal the social laws?

Answer: Of course. These are laws of an integral society in which we are one single whole like all of nature.

We do not separate ourselves from nature, we do not divide it into inanimate, vegetative, animate, and human. We consider it a single global system that exists and develops within itself in absolute interconnection of all its parts. And most importantly, the basic law of this nature is love.

To love means to take into account everyone and everything, to have a kind attitude toward everyone, and realize how much everything that determines my next state will be good for others. I look at nature as an integral system and only care that it is in the best possible condition.
