From Barbarism To Prosperity

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: After World War I, a crisis led to unemployment. The mass of unemployed, who were at the animate level, did not care to discover the purpose of life, which probably served as the perfect breeding ground for the Russian Revolution. At that time there were many unhappy, disgruntled workers, tough labor conditions, and starvation.

At this time, we are facing a similar situation in which masses of people have lost their jobs. It is not clear whether the people of Middle Eastern countries have enough resources to live on. One match is enough to light them up; any fanatic can become their leader. How likely is it that huge masses of people will choose the path of enlightenment and education instead of making the same mistake that was made at the beginning of the twentieth century?

Answer: Unfortunately, this scenario is quite possible. I do not deny that the bloody way is feasible, that the world may plunge into a terrible catastrophe much worse than at the beginning of the twentieth century. We may find ourselves in a terrible meat grinder so much more sophisticated that humanity will show examples of unprecedented barbarism.

During the time that we now call “barbaric,” invaders threw food over the sieged city gates so that the besieged could survive and the warriors could fight them in an honest combat. Even during the dimmest Middle Ages, as well as later in history, it was considered “noble” for knights or samurais to battle with each other openly and decently. There is nothing like that nowadays!

The twentieth century became a turning point; everything went in a different direction. It can continue like this, or there is also a chance of changing it. We are now at a crossroads.

The world may come to war, not just a nuclear war, but a war with terrible biological weapons, and humanity will die from horrible infections. In the end, only a small part of humanity will remain alive; it may only be several million people who will remain. They will acknowledge the necessity to rise to the next level of existence and will certainly attain it.

So, we are not talking about a specific number of people transitioning to the next level, but rather about the certainty of humanity attaining this level at any price. About a hundred years ago, there were only 3 billion people on the face of the Earth; prior to that, there were even fewer people living on this planet. Subsequently, on one hand, it’s not about the quantity of people.

On the other hand, humanity advances as the result of modifying human desires. If this development were only influenced by external factors, then of course we would have nothing but the pure material law of “negation of the negation”; however, in some sense it is the spiritual law that works here. The thing is that our desires change. So, no matter how fanatical our society is, even if they are led to demonstrations, propaganda, and revolutions, they will suddenly lose interest in this. The desire to exist in such a way will disappear; people won’t want to live like this.

Unexpectedly, they will feel disgust. They won’t want jobs any more since they will have lost the incentive to work. So many people in the world will feel depressed. Many won’t feel the need to work, and they will no longer have a desire to scream “Give me a job!”

People will become aware of the fact that there is sufficient scientific and technical potential accumulated in the world, and that we all can provide ourselves with everything we need without applying physical efforts. It will depend solely on the correct interaction between us.

We toss away 40% of our food supply. If we distributed it correctly, then nobody would have a shortage of food. We throw away up to 90% of “consumer goods” instead of allowing them to find their way to all customers. If we could distribute them correctly, then people would no longer have these needs unsatisfied.

Almost, as if by printing them on a copy machine, we can build houses, cities, and provide everybody with everything they need. There’s a solid foundation for this since we’ll have an internal sensation that we should not be working only in order to purchase things and throw them away; our lives should not be wasted. The sensation of life’s worthlessness should not lead us to destruction, but rather to the realization of life’s basics, its roots and essence.

I hope that we can find a group of powerful wise men in this world and create a forum that will be supported by the general public, by the scientific community, by government, and even by billionaires. If they understand that the alternative route is associated with enormous sufferings, then they will turn our society toward an alternative goal.

For that, we need integral education to become widespread and understood by all major manufacturers, the banking industry, and all financial sectors, the highest segments of society.

Understanding The Integrality Of The World

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Integral education is learning about the mutual interconnection of everything. Can we teach in our environment by way of example that there is no black and white, rather everything is variegated? Could it be that this method will awaken those around us to think integrally?

Answer: The idea is that we can think integrally, yet we cannot ourselves be integral.

What does it mean to think integrally? How can I make decisions that do not disrupt the equilibrium of the world, that are only for its good? For if they are not intended for the good of some part of the integral system, then they will only bring harm. How can I make decisions today to carry out some activities to create companies, to realize investments, create new kinds of products?

Today I can no longer do this. The world has become so interconnected that if I don’t take its integrality into account but simply implement any economic, financial, technological, manufacturing, cultural, or scientific activity, then I cause harm. Therefore, what has been done from that moment in which close to a century ago the world began to discover its integrality, is that we have been harming ourselves because subconsciously, within the soul, we have no feeling of integrality.

Suppose that I know what my family is: my wife, children, parents, and relatives. I feel all of this; within me, I have a representation of my family. And therefore if they ask me to do something for them, I automatically describe to myself if this will be for their good or will it cause harm, for within me there exists a representation of the family.

The same thing is relevant to the world as well. Suppose that I am the manager of some large corporation or the president of some nation. What kind of decision can I make today, because no matter what I do it affects the entire world and comes back to me, to my nation, to my family? No! It’s best to sit and do nothing.

We see what is happening today in the management of the nations, the businesses, and so forth. Gradually it’s as if everything is failing, disappearing because people feel that their decisions will be incorrect in every circumstance. They are beginning to feel the lack of information more and more: Where am I, what am I doing? This feeling will grow all the time. The person will begin to feel that he is lost.

We must understand the integrality of the world as without this we cannot exist. And the Wisdom of Kabbalah explains it. Therefore we will be needed because only we can reveal to the world its true structure: The mechanism of the structure of all kinds of simple decisions even to maintain and strengthen the family in the right way, to educate the children properly, to regulate the relationships within the family between a husband and wife, relationships between families, in society, and so forth.

For the crisis has already reached the person himself, he no longer lives with his wife and children, not with the parents, and so forth, rather only with himself. Therefore we are found in crisis. And so it is also in Scandinavia. People simply know how to subjugate themselves to be satisfied with what there is. They don’t see anything else; so what can a person do? He can enter more deeply into his shell like a snail and sit quietly.

We must show that we have a solution. First we must highlight the problem, reveal it, explain it correctly, and after this, show that it is possible to solve it, that it is impossible for us to wait, otherwise from the side of nature, terrible blows will land on us. Then people will listen to us.

Young Americans Are Returning To Their Parents

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from CNNMoney): “The U.S. has more than 2 million missing households, thanks largely to 18 to 34-year-olds stuck living with the parentals.

“The share of 18 to 34-year-olds living with their parents rose from about 27.6% before the Great Recession in 2007 to above 31%, where it remains today, according to an analysis by Trulia, a real-estate website. Millennials have contributed to the sharp decline in household formation, which likely will take a while to return to normal.

“Until recently, hedge funds and private equity firms drove the U.S. housing market’s recovery, buying a shrinking pool of foreclosed and distressed homes to rent. It seemed like a lucrative investment, given that rents were rising while homeownership fell to record lows.

“But as big investors turn into landlords, it’s worth asking if any considered how long it could take before junior finally gets a place of his own.

“Rents for single-family homes have now risen slower than property prices. This comes as investors flood the market with homes for lease, but it also comes as fewer young adults — generally a key market for rentals – create homes of their own.”

My Comment: The crisis will force us to live a rational life in everything. For the meantime, we do not feel it yet, we are still consuming past supplies….

Rebirth: At The Junction Of Opposites

Dr. Michael LaitmanAs we know, it all depends on the environment and the environment of humanity as a whole is nature: still, vegetative, and animate. It is in its environment that we live and, perhaps without noticing it, are in a very clear and strict dependence on it.

Nature supplies us with all the necessities of life. Due to it, we breathe, drink, eat, and live. We are a part of it, I would say, the most sensible and sensitive part. It is enough for at least one parameter to go beyond its natural range and then we do not know what to do.

In short, we are highly dependent and the problem is that if the laws of nature are followed instinctively on the still, vegetative, and animate levels because of their identity with it, the human being who developed has found himself beyond these levels in transition from the animate stage to truly human.

This situation is very dangerous. On the one hand, the same laws of the still, vegetative, and animate nature act on the human, but on the other hand, the laws of human nature relating to the degrees of similarity to the Creator begin to affect him. As a result, people experience the effect of the Creator getting closer to humankind.

If a person does not balance these influences every time, then they are perceived as very unpleasant, adding up to the path of suffering, paved by the action of the laws of nature, which, leaving no choice, push us to equilibrium whether we want it or not.

Although the still, vegetative, and animate nature is included in the human degree—although it rises and falls with it—the Creator, the Upper Light, the higher, round, integral, global world, the one and unified, constantly is getting closer to the human being, and this presence is felt by us in the form of a complex of modern problems.

After all, we discover our own nature and every time it does not get along with our surroundings. As before, we live in still, vegetative, and animate nature, but we can no longer cope with it because we have not yet understood the aspect of human nature, the degree of the Creator, the property of bestowal, of love. We do not associate ourselves with bestowal and love, with globality, with general interconnection. We do not want this, and as a consequence, we suffer more and more.

Thus, Baal HaSulam writes in the article, “The Peace,” about the necessity of a careful attitude toward the laws of nature. Of course, he primarily means the nature of the fourth stage, the human degree. However, we can study it on the basis of the previous levels: still, vegetative, and animate.

“Cocaine ‘Rapidly Changes The Brain’”

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from BBC News): “Taking cocaine can change the structure of the brain within hours in what could be the first steps of drug addiction, according to US researchers.

“Animal tests, reported in the journal Nature Neuroscience, showed new structures linked to learning and memory began to grow soon after the drug was taken. …

“The place or environment that drugs are taken plays an important role in addiction.

In the experiments, the mice were allowed to explore freely two very different chambers – each with a different smell and surface texture.

“Once they had picked a favourite they were injected with cocaine in the other chamber. A type of laser microscopy was used to look inside the brains of living mice to hunt for the dendritic spines. More new spines were produced when the mice were injected with cocaine than with water, suggesting new memories being formed around drug use. The difference could be detected two hours after the first dose. …

“’This gives us a possible mechanism for how drug use fuels further drug-seeking behaviour.

“‘These drug-induced changes in the brain may explain how drug-related cues come to dominate decision making in a human drug user.’”

“Commenting on the research, Dr Gerome Breen, from the Institute of Psychiatry at King’s College London, told the BBC: ‘Dendritic spine development is particularly important in learning and memory. This study gives us a solid understanding of how addiction occurs – it shows us how addiction is learned by the brain.’”

My Comment: Changes in the structure of the brain lead to a complete change of personality; dependence on fulfillment from narcotics makes a person weak-willed and utterly unfit to work on himself, on spiritual evolution, and removes him from society. He is useful for the old, capitalist system as a vegetable who needs only a new dose, but for a new, altruistic social structure, he is completely unsuitable.

“The Blindness of Modern Economists”

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the news (from Casey Research): “The contrast between mainstream academic economics and “real world economics” has always been stark, but today the disconnect is so enormous that it seems the two have nothing at all in common. If you were to ask Paul Krugman and Doug Casey how to fix what ails our economy, you’d get two diametrically opposed answers. …

“Mainstream economics relies heavily on mathematics, whereas real-world economics shuns it.

“In the hard sciences like physics or chemistry, fields based on immutable natural laws, focusing on math produces the best results. Economics, on the other hand, is a social science and attempts to explain human behavior—arguably the most fickle of actions, and no more mathematically quantifiable than the exact degree of mortification when throwing up on the dress of your 12th-grade crush at a high school reunion. Which, of course, has never happened to anyone we know.

“In the hallowed halls of academia, you need not be correct to be useful. In the world of business, if you’re wrong more often than you’re right, you won’t stay in business for long. In contrast, academic economists can and have made very successful careers out of being apologists for the regime. No matter that they’ve been dead wrong in virtually every forecast they’ve ever made: as long as their forecasts align with their peers’, they can collectively claim, for example, that no one could have ever seen the financial crisis coming. …

“My guess is that academics are bitter about this fact, and believe that because the free market doesn’t adequately reward them, there must be something wrong with it. They correctly understand that oftentimes, the only way for them to obtain a lot of money is to steal it via the government; and because that principle applies to their line of work, it must apply to all others too. …

“Mainstream economists believe that aggregate demand—the total demand for goods and services in the economy at a given time and price level—is the wellspring from which all prosperity emerges, and so anything that increases aggregate demand must be positive, even otherwise wasteful government spending. Economists also use these as an excuse to make laughably rosy forecasts.”

My Comment: There is the elite above economists who dictates to them what to do. It could be said as was once said by the Soviet elite about cybernetics: “Economics is the whore of imperialism.”

Re-Evaluating One’s Conditions

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from Nautilus): “It’s an odd quirk of the human mind that we tend to think we’re less likely to be affected a particular threat—be it the flu, a car accident, or a flood—than anyone else. Like the fictional town of Lake Wobegon, where all the children are above average, this is a patent impossibility: Everyone can’t be less likely than the average person to catch a cold. But we persist in what psychologists call ‘unrealistic comparative optimism.’ Even when we have actually encountered a threat, or been in close proximity to one, this warped sense of the probability field persists, as a report published last year shows.

“In the study, researchers had a chance to test how people’s comparative optimism changed after a low-probability, high-impact event: a tornado that ripped across Iowa City in 2006, causing $12 million in property damage. And their results were faintly comical: Everyone they polled, from students to randomly selected Iowa City residents to people whose neighborhoods had been damaged, felt both soon after the tornado and a year later that they were less likely to be affected in the future than the average person. In fact, six months after the events, people in damaged neighborhoods were actually more optimistic that they would not be affected again than were those living in intact areas. After a year, their optimism returned to the usual level—but still, as always, holding that they were less likely to be affected than others.”

My Comment: We are within our egoism, and we cannot objectively evaluate anything before we exit it. Until then, we will perceive the world through the prism of egoistic error.

The Clutch Pedal With Nature

Dr. Michael LaitmanBaal HaSulam, “The Peace:” Because the purpose is undoubtedly built over all the laws of nature, none excluded, … he who alters even a single law harms and damages the purposeful aim that the Creator has set, and will therefore be punished by nature. Hence, we, too, creatures of the Creator, must not pity him because he is desecrating the laws of nature and defiles the purpose of the Creator.

From here, it is clear to us that, if I see that someone is acting against the laws of nature, I must stop him for we are in one system, and if a person goes against one of its laws, then, necessarily, he has a bad influence on all of nature and on everyone.

Generally, all of your actions must be accompanied by an understanding of what you are doing. This is because you are influencing a great collective mechanism, the mutual connection of a multitude of parts, integrally and globally. If you don’t know the laws of nature, this doesn’t mean that you still won’t cause damage.

Nature accepts your action as it is, and, if the intention is good or bad or there is a lack of intention, this is already superfluous. However, whatever it may be from a materialistic point of view, we need to understand that we essentially are in a closed system, and therefore, all of us depend upon each other. No one can feel himself to be free of an obligation not to harm the system.

After that, it is possible to continue. Am I also free to benefit the system? And, if you think about it, well, you are not. This is because, in a closed system, each has its place and function, and therefore, each is obliged not to harm the system and is obliged also to benefit it, and no one has free choice about this. Rather, to the contrary, all of us are obliged to be corrected parts within it, beneficial to the system.

However, among all the parts of the system, there is yet another mechanism called a “clutch.” The more that we are pressed together—soldered together into the general system—and to the degree of our mutual adherence, this “pedal” is gradually released more and more, raising the mutual dependence, and we are obliged to act accordingly, doing no harm and bringing benefit according to the “negative commandments” and the “positive commandments.”

The Future Is In Integration With Nature

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: If we all form one system, then how can the human, being its inseparable part, make mistakes and violate its laws?

Answer: The fact is that a person is now connected to it like a baby. Adults take care of him and give him a slightly higher degree so that he would begin to integrate into it, to evolve, to connect, and to see how much he can match it, how much benefit or harm he brings it.

Only in our time are these mechanisms finally manifested: We are harming the world and it responds so much so that our very existence is threatened. Environmental hazards today are such that humanity with all its history can disappear from the face of the Earth that can no longer bear it. We ourselves cause the extinction of plant and animal species and suddenly we find ourselves on the same list. Moreover, one global war is sufficient to end civilization even before ecology would do this.

The conclusion is that if we do not learn from nature, meaning from the general system, the correct integration into it, we come into conflict with it and to an unpleasant end.

Question: The problem is that if a person comes face to face with a steadfast system that is stronger than he, then at some point he raises his arms: “Come what may…”

Answer: That’s right; today a person feels helpless and doesn’t know what to do. He doesn’t know because he is incapable of understanding the world, feeling it correctly, making the right decision, and most importantly, realizing it correctly.

That’s why Kabbalists, sages, come to our world. They are also part of the general system. And apparently, no matter how many of them appear, the world does not need more. After all, people still need to be given freedom of will to ensure the realization of evil; they have to be brought to their own decision whether to join those sages or not.

It turns out that the world has a chance, provided by the system as well. And this opportunity is us the world organization Bnei Baruch. In the framework that we were given, we are obliged to act, sparing no efforts, so that everyone in the world would know upon what his good future depends.

A “good future “is the correct inclusion in the system of nature. If we do not violate its laws, the conditions set by it, we will be fine. If I judge wellbeing on the basis of my egoism, then I behave like a small child who doesn’t want to listen to adults.

Anyway, being in the general system, I cannot choose their laws according to my taste. Either I am against nature and in helplessness follow the path of suffering, or I study the laws of nature in order to associate myself with it and move forward by the good path, drawing from nature forces which are useful for my advancement.

“Forced Mass Drugging of US Troops an Underreported Scandal”

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News ( from the Alex’s Jones InforWars.com): “The mass drugging of US troops is one of the most underreported scandals of the modern era, with soldiers not only being used as guinea pigs in a brave new world of pharmacological experimentation, but also having their rights stripped as a result. …

“As Mike Adams documents, the Defense Department notes that ‘20 percent of U.S. troops are on psychiatric drugs, and that they are often handed as much as a 180-day supply of those pills before being deployed.’

“‘U.S. troops are being forced to take drugs like Prozac and Seroquel for anxiety and depression. Troops cannot refuse to take the drugs without consequences from their superiors. …

“The mass drugging of US troops is another aspect of government social engineering. It is about creating yet another huge sector of society – just like children in school or foster care – whose dependence on the state is secured via the method of artificially creating a dangerous dependence on drugs.”
