Make Room For Everyone

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: How do we use our ego correctly, and how do we nullify ourselves to realize the goal of the group?

Answer: Our ego is our faithful helper. If we hear it correctly, if we understand how it is necessary to work with it, then we will thank the Creator that He made us like this. Unfortunately, we don’t work with it correctly.

Whatever people come to the group, however they may be, and however long they stay with us, it could be that they will come today and will leave tomorrow, that doesn’t matter to us. We must accept every person (as long as he is not harmful) as someone who is missing from our whole Kli. It doesn’t matter with what “craziness” he reaches us. We must accept him as desirable.

The group must make room for everyone, support everyone, but only if he does not begin to disparage it, if he does not begin to be too condescending or harm the studies, or won’t express disagreement with the main requirements for the group that were given to us in the writings of the great Kabbalists: Ramchal, Ari, Baal HaSulam and Rabash.

We must be concerned about the friends because each one of them is a fragment of my soul. After all, every world group, all of humanity, everything still, vegetative, and animate, are my soul. But, in the meantime, I perceive only that part that the Creator gives me so that I somehow will begin to build myself spiritually.

Unity In Yearning For A Common Future

Dr. Michael LaitmanEurope includes a number of nations and as many languages, opinions, and ideologies. How would it be possible to begin to unify such an egoistic, fragmented situation?

I think that this is possible and even more than in any other place in the world because due to this fragmentation, it is felt how weak Europe is, how much it has lost its power in the world, its culture, and its spiritual and ethical foundation. What is left of it? It is devouring itself, and, in addition to that, immigrants are streaming into it from all over the world, conquering parts of it.

Today, it exists thanks to the past, thanks to several decades of development after World War II. I think that if you scrutinize this situation—highlight, examine, and describe it correctly—it can become a springboard for bringing the Europeans to a good upheaval.

I have met with the leaders of the European Union. They have no plan for the future; the future is absolutely lost to them. Emptiness and lack of faith in the future is all that is left to them because they don’t have any kind of mechanism in their hands for correcting the current European situation.

Europe truly needs unity, but not under one financial roof. This is the worst possible thing to invent, so nobody wants it, but there is unity in yearning for a common future.

This unity doesn’t exist now, but, in the future, they will need to reach this. So, there will be possibilities for Europe to survive and remain a strong continent. Let it  be a United States of Europe, speaking different languages with different cultures and environments, still it will be a  united states.

We call upon them and  explain how to do this. After all, in the wisdom of Kabbalah, there is a method—as it is written, “Love covereth all transgressions” (Proverbs 10:12)—and we need to give that to Europe.

For this, it is necessary to rise above all the differences and conflicts to the point of rejecting the reality among us. We know that between neighbors, for the most part, there are disagreements, but if there is a desire, it is possible to rise above them and attain an agreement so that our “Concorde” will fly and not fall.

I think that everything must begin from consolidation between the groups, from understanding that this process is the most important thing for the continent. When you begin to engage in unity between the European groups, you will feel the need to unify within each group.

Then, you truly will begin to work among yourselves, organizing meetings, conventions, and putting together a plan of action; and to strengthen your group in every nation, you must expand it, disseminate, and so forth.

After the ground is ready, it will be possible to organize a large, serious, and true convention for all of Europe. I consider this to be the most important thing. However, again, this requires work on all levels: each one within himself, we within a group, we in dissemination around a group, we in connection between the groups, and we in connection between nations on a continental scale.

This must be done. We won’t escape from this.

Turn Toward A Person’s Desires

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What actions and efforts must be taken to create a unified European group?

Answer: In general, it is necessary to turn to the desire of a person that has not been fulfilled within him, that pains him. This could be security, health, critical problems of the nation, or the family.

According to what is happening in the world today, we cannot say that people have such desires that we can grasp and attract them to us.

We see how many drug addicts there are in the world. People are running away from problems and taking antidepressants. In this aspect, Europe is not the happiest place in the world. In the undeveloped African nations, people feel much happier than in advanced Europe.

The feeling of happiness doesn’t depend upon a high quality of life. It is impossible to calculate this in terms of wealth or comforts in life. This is the inner state of the person. It could be that he has nothing and he feels free, easy, and simple. He doesn’t think about what will be tomorrow. This doesn’t concern him.

On the other hand, Europeans are concerned about that in another ten years that, all of a sudden, they wouldn’t have a pension. So, they are already in a panic now. In this regard, everything is very personal.

It is necessary to examine this “market” of desires, what the person wants. In every nation, the groups must be involved in examining how to approach this question. We need explore all kinds of sociological surveys, look at the advertisements through which all kinds of charlatans promise people freedom from all problems, determine what the people are turning toward, what are the people’s desires, what catches people on the hook the most. In every nation, this can be different in various layers of the society.

If you do this, you will have a clear understanding of how to go out to the public and what to talk about. You will begin to come in contact with them by reading these materials, and you will begin to absorb their needs and empty and unfulfilled desires into yourselves.

These desires will begin to work in you, and you will begin to think, “How is it possible to approach people? What workshops should be organized? What should I ask them so that they will understand that they don’t have this and this is bad for them here?” That is how we gradually bring them to the conclusion that, with the help of unity, the connection, it is possible to solve the painful problems.

So, the first step toward European unification is to determine the main needs in every region in every issue and their lack of fulfillment, and offer to fulfill them. It is possible to attract people to us only through fulfillment of their ego.

We are not lying because we truly can help them do this.

A Group Is A Unique Entity

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Is it possible to relate to people with whom we work and communicate in daily life as we do to Kabbalistic group?

Answer: No way!

A group is a unique organ that is selected and created strictly and carefully under the guidance of an experienced Kabbalist or a few Kabbalists. The group is created over a long period of time, like a high-quality musical instrument.

For example, to create a fine musical instrument, first the materials are prepared: wood, strings, and so forth. Everything goes through drying and processing for many years. After that, separate parts are glued, dried and adjusted. And only after this does the instrument begin to produce sound.

So the group must also be created over much time, adhering to itself, going through drying and adjusting before it begins to play in full harmony. This is not very easy!

For this we must carry out specific actions among ourselves: study together, organize meals, go out to disseminate, travel to conventions, and accept friends among us with the same opinions and views. And only after that will a group emerge out of us, meaning as some kind of perceptive organ with which we feel the upper world and begin to learn together what we are feeling.

This feeling is eternal. The body can die, whereas we remain with the same sensation, the same perception, because it doesn’t belong to an egoistic body.

To understand how much this group is a unique entity that we have created, try to assemble the same gathering from the egoistic people of our world, try to change them to a mutual altruistic connection like this so that they will play the melody of the spiritual world together.

Then you will understand how difficult and complex it is to create the proper Kabbalistic groups! In history isolated groups were known. Today we are trying to do this in various nations in the world.

Wait Until The “Child” Grows

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: If I enter a group as a new student and begin to criticize it, then I can only discover this later?

Answer: If a new student enters a group, it is necessary to tolerate him until he adapts, acclimates, and understands that the people who are studying here are not dumber than he is, that there exists an entire system that he must understand a little first and become familiar with before engaging in criticism.

You cannot come thinking that you supposedly know and understand everything, and that we must do everything differently. First, one must understand what they are learning here and not t try to change everything immediately according to how you would do it, as a regular egoist behaves. Certainly there are problems with the absorption of new students in a group, but for this we have created an education center and classes for beginners.

Question: If I criticize a friend, it follows that I am detached from the right connection. And conversely, if I admire him, apparently I am approaching the right connection. Is this so?

Answer: That’s right, but this is in relation to a person who is already in the group.

But what if he just joined the group? So what if he criticizes it? He doesn’t understand anything. We must accept this and wait until he will absorb and understand the method; there is nothing else to do.

It is like with a little child,  he is allowed to do everything until he grows up. He can break something, get dirty, or smash something. That is also how it is with beginners in a group; it is necessary to wait until they grow up and understand that there is Jungian psychology and there is the wisdom of Kabbalah.

You Reap What You Sow

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Currently, there are wars all over the world. Is it possible to stop this through our study of Kabbalah?

Answer: Kabbalah does not perform any miracles. If we could only apply Kabbalistic knowledge to ourselves and make the Upper Light that fills the Upper world start to fill our world as well, through us, if we will make ourselves equivalent in our structure and unity to the higher elements, then the higher energy will start to pass into our world too.

This energy will flow through it and connect all the fragmented, opposite, antagonistic elements of our world into one single system. Then we will see our world full of kindness, mutual connection, and support.

We must reach this state. This is why the wisdom of Kabbalah is being opened to us, because only through realizing it inside of us can we achieve peace in the world.

This needs to happen within the next few decades. We see this from the rate at which the world is developing.

Until we begin to draw into our world the upper energy, the property of bestowal and love, which we will cultivate in our groups, the world will continue to enter into more and more cruel, unpleasant states: wars, suffering, enormous ecological shocks on a cosmic scale. Our imbalance with nature will trigger all sorts of disasters on every level.

This is not a result of actions of some benevolent or evil forces relative to us. We bring about all the disturbances through our lack of balance, through our bad relationships with each other and the world around us. Therefore, what can we expect: You reap what you sow.

Can A Person Alone Expect Success?

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Why is it so important to study Kabbalah specifically in a group and not at home alone?

Answer: This option is possible. You can get on the Internet and receive all of the information; the entire archive is open to you filled with video, audio, and text files. Certainly you can sit at home and study Kabbalah by yourself, but how will you realize it in practice?

If a person wants to become an expert, he must go through practical experience. Imagine a chef who learns how to prepare dishes by the books, but never sees a cucumber or tomato and so forth. What kind of chef would he be?

How can you implement the wisdom of Kabbalah on your own? Nothing will result. You must realize it in a group with friends because only through the right connection between you will you begin to feel what is written in the books. Certainly you can study at home, but you won’t get anywhere from this at all because you will not know what you are studying.

There are friends who study at home and don’t even want to come to conventions to meet with other people. They think that it is enough for them just to study. What can one say to them? They don’t realize their lessons at all. They don’t feel the material; they don’t discover the same world about which they are reading.

I could say much about this, but a person must understand that the wisdom of Kabbalah is grasped only in a group. All of the Kabbalists write about it.

If a person comes to us for lessons and opens Kabbalistic source books, in all of them they talk about it. But he doesn’t read them because he is too lazy. He doesn’t want this because then he would have to work against his ego: come to a group, take part together in events, be involved with dissemination, and so forth. So people like these leave us, and with this their Kabbalistic development ends.

Spiritual Genes Determine Everything

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Dear teacher,

I would like to thank you for keeping your promise to come to us. When I traveled to this meeting, my heart was filled with love and warmth, as if you were a person close to me.

Answer: Of course, we are close since we are from the same area of Reshimot (spiritual genes). So they were revealed together since we arranged a connection between us in this world. Therefore, we all found each other in the same time and space. It is amazing!

I have a student, who, when I saw him the first time, I was amazed at how he looked at me with deep contempt, with such a look of hatred. That was a few years ago. Today, I look at him and he’s a completely different person.

This indicates that the Reshimot under the influence of the Light determines all of our behavior and all that happens to us.

You can’t imagine what kind of influence these summer months of dissemination to the general public will have. It isn’t important how they are conducted. External success doesn’t imply anything or shouldn’t cause any disappointment. However, the efforts that you invest, both corporeal and spiritual, go toward the calculations of the Masach (screen). Therefore, you need to appreciate that the Creator gave you this opportunity, even though He brings you through great difficulties in this decision. However, in any case, He chose you.

Diagnosis: You Are In Good Health

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: When I started studying Kabbalah I started seeing the egoism within myself and within other people. As a result I feel negativity towards myself and others. Is it normal?

Answer: This is absolutely normal! In the beginning of your Kabbalah studies you will feel worse and worse. This is a good sign. It means that you are advancing. I will explain why. First of all, you begin to see our world deeper: how everything is tied around egoism.

Second, you still exist at a small egoistic level: inanimate, vegetative, animal, levels of nature, and human. However, you have to be raised above this level and your egoism has to be developed to the next rung so you could start transforming it into the property of bestowal, into altruism.

Therefore, when you begin your Kabbalah studies, you feel worse about yourself and about the surrounding world. Every person goes through this period. It has to take place.

As an example, students who study medicine feel that they have all the diseases they study in school. The same happens with us.

In reality the egoism is not growing within you, but you begin to study it and you become engaged in it. As a result, you see it in brighter shades: how egoistic you are and how you don’t like and hate yourself and others. This is precisely because you study this disease called “egoism.” Therefore, everything is fine; you are in good health.
