Formation Of Consciousness

530Question: When I break away from my “I” and integrate with the group, is “we” kind of my new self-identity, or does an expanded “I” still remain?

Answer: “We” is “I,” only at the next degree. When you rise to the next degree, this “we,” becoming “I,” turns into an even greater “we.” This is how it is all the time.

Question: This means that Kabbalah is the science of expansion. In this case, is it possible to identify the stages of planning and creation of consciousness itself in the main textbook, say, in the Study of the Ten Sefirot? Could you please name them?

Answer: First of all, we study how the environment was created, how from this environment the inner structure was segregated from which consciousness emerged.

The environment is the five so-called worlds, the five filters. In the center of this environment there is a manifestation of consciousness, which is born by itself. We call it Adam. This consciousness absorbs the entire environment, connects with it through the quality of bestowal naturally, instinctively. This is called “Adam before his shattering.”

Then there is the shattering of the structure of Adam. At the same time, all the qualities of the upper nature, the qualities of bestowal, in the opposite, egoistic form, enter into every particle of the general desire, which was shattered into many pieces. This is the basis for the development of egoistic desire and its transformation into the opposite, into the altruistic one.

“I”—The Original Point In The System Of Adam

264.01Comment: We are unable to perceive whole phenomena; therefore, we do not understand what the universe, life, consciousness, or reason are. We try with our mind to break them down into some acceptable pieces and study each one separately. Thus it is difficult for science to explain a lot of things.

My Response: Science cannot have anything to do with consciousness. It uses consciousness as a given, but it cannot explore it. To do this, you need to be on a level higher than consciousness. We always use the top-down method. And how can we rise above our consciousness while in it?

Consciousness is the ability of a person to connect to the higher information layer.

Question: You said that “I” is what I feel in the semblance of an information field. That is, it seems to coincide with the definition of consciousness. What is the difference between them? What is the “I” that has consciousness? Is it a collection of my thoughts, a feeling, a sensation?

Answer: No. “I” is some kind of basis that does not disappear anywhere even with death. It goes through all the metamorphoses of our life and death cycles.

“I” is our original point in the system called Adam. Each of us has such a point, which represents our initial data, our coordinates. And we can’t get away from them, that’s how we were created.

Every person in our world has a place in the system of Adam, which exists so that we can change ourselves so that each point can connect to this higher system, to the field in which it is located, and fully comprehend it.

Question: How can we explain to a person who does not know that there is a system of Adam and in it one’s point, what is this “I”?

Answer: “I” is a part of the Creator from above.

Question: So it cannot be explained without the Creator?

Answer: The Creator is an upper force, the same field. We don’t attribute this power to some grandfather sitting somewhere. We’re talking about nature. The Creator and nature are one and the same. This is the highest consciousness, the highest thought.

Adhesion With Infinity

712.03Question: Is there a difference between the concepts of “I” and “my consciousness”?

Answer: It depends on you: with what you identify.

Do you identify yourself with a part of the higher consciousness or just with how you feel in your mortal body? Do you identify yourself as existing in some kind of “organism,” for example, in a group? It all depends on your definition of yourself.

How else? Who will give you such a universal definition? Even if Kabbalah speaks about it, it still means nothing. The main thing is how you define yourself.

In fact, you are the highest consciousness. Moreover, you are not just a part of this consciousness because by revealing it, through it, you achieve merging with the whole consciousness, call it the Creator. This is your highest attainment, merging with it, but proceeding from an individual point, which is your “I.”

Question: And what is the individuality?

Answer: In the fact that in this case you represent what is called “Adam.” On the one hand, you comprehend the peak of possible revelation, which is no longer in nature at all. On the other hand, only you comprehend this, proceeding from your individual point.

Question: It turns out that “I” is something that includes absolutely everything, and at the same time something very individual, which no one else has?

Answer: Your individuality does not disappear anywhere. This is your primordial data from the general system.

But due to the fact that you connect with the entire system on the property of bestowal, you want to enter it, you seem to acquire the whole system. It becomes yours in individual receipt relative to your point. And it turns out that your very point, narrow, rough individuality, in fact a point, adheres with the entire system, which is infinity.

Assembling A System Of Separate Desires

929Question: Why is it so difficult in our world to kindle a desire in people to attain and discover the upper light, the Creator?

Answer: A system exists in which an immense number of desires are concentrated. In the initial state, all of its parts were connected and the system was in an absolutely balanced state of eternity and wholeness.

After that, a breakage occurred, meaning that the connection between the parts in the system disappeared. Those broken parts that do not make it possible for the system to connect are called, “egoism.”

Why is this good? It is because the creature became distant from the Creator and therefore independence appeared in it. A system that was completely similar to the Creator became contrary to Him.

After the breakage, the system continued its egoistic development to our world. We have reached a situation in which the egoistic forces have become in complete control over the entire system. But the Ohr Makif (Surrounding Light), the Creator, still continues to operate on it.

He is beginning to shape the system, taking out and isolating the outermost circle first, then the next circle and so on, from a small egoism to a bigger and bigger egoism to the biggest egoism.

Under the influence of the light, the system first began to recover on the still, vegetative, and animate levels of nature. But when it reached the human level, a problem appeared since here a conscious understanding was required, which is where we are found, and it is up to us to assemble and manage it ourselves. In this way our mission is concluded.

Starting with our time, the system has stopped developing; it completed its development in the previous form on the still, vegetative, and animate levels, and we have reached the human level. A conscious attitude, an understanding of what we are doing is required here. So, we are living in a time which is not simple.

We must restore and reconstruct among us all of the various parts, gather and assemble the entire system into a single whole.

To do this, we must unite and participate in its assembly. How can we do this? Humanity is constantly trying to assemble itself because nature and society are pushing it toward this, but nothing has been successful. This is because to do that, we must arouse the higher power so that it will influence us.

The wisdom of Kabbalah has been given to us for that purpose. It explains how to attract the same force that will shape us. We just need to ask correctly. Before we ask, we must formulate the question, the need. It is precisely for this purpose that we are studying. Where are we, what must we ask, how do we ask? Which is to say, how do we develop a desire that is ready to correct. The entire wisdom of Kabbalah is preparing us just for this.

To A Single Field Of Consciousness

928Question: How is the information field related to the concept of the soul of the first person or Adam HaRishon? Moreover, phenomena such as consciousness are purely spiritual phenomena. Is it possible to trace some kind of connection in this?

Answer: The soul is an information field. Consciousness is also a field. They resonate and affect the still, vegetative, and animate nature. Not being isolated from it, they affect the material world, and it, in turn, affects this information field. So everything is in dynamic interaction.

But when we come to the level of influence on the spiritual field, the field of the mind, the field of information records, then we do not need to work with matter because it is a very rough, very weak instrument of influence on the field of information.

With the help of Kabbalah, we rise to the level of this field and are included in it, like resonators, peculiar antennae that excite this field. This is our strength.

All this must be aroused in order for this field to act on all its elements and bring them to one single whole, to become a huge single field of consciousness. The science of Kabbalah pushes us to ensure that our influence through our desires on the information fields would create such conditions when these fields and these desires would be combined together into one single field.

This will be what Einstein dreamed of, although he was hardly thinking about a unified theory of a unified field.
This will be the soul of the first person.

Through The Sea Of Egoism

115.06Question: Philosophy justifies egoism. It is no coincidence that one of the theorists of the modern postmodern paradigm, José Ortega y Gasset, said: “I am I and my circumstances.” Ninety-nine percent of people now live by this formula. How do you think about this?

Answer: I try to live not according to circumstances, but according to the way Kabbalah interprets it. It shows that the world is undergoing very serious changes. We see this every day.

But the question arises: What can we change? On one hand, circumstances give us some framework within which we can act. On the other hand, we have no right to agree with them because otherwise our egoistic nature will lead us into such states that we may not get out from.

Therefore, according to the wisdom of Kabbalah, we must still fight with our nature, that is, understand it but not agree with it and be creative about the egoism that underlies it.

Kabbalah shows a very simple way to this, which we have never used. If we try to connect correctly according to certain laws, we will come to the point that our individual vectors will join together and become one common vector.

In the Torah this is described as follows. There was once one great soul of Adam. But the fact that he allegedly ate the forbidden fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, that is, let egoism inside himself, he shattered into tiny parts—all his thoughts, all desires. Naturally, it was not a person, but a common image. And we are his children, so we are called ” the sons of men,” the sons of Adam.

This means that in each of us there is a small soul (soul means desire and intention). But all our souls are divided: egoism has gone inside this huge, massive structure, has torn it into parts and is between them, like the sea, whose waters cut the earth and form an archipelago. That’s how we are separated from each other.

If we want a different future for ourselves, an exalted, spiritual one, then we must turn this sea of egoism that separates us from each other into the opposite, into connection between us. Then we will reach another dimension, another world, in which our egoistic intentions and desires will not separate us, but, on the contrary, will altruistically connect us, and we will again gather into one single image of a Human with a capital letter.

This is what we must come to. And our nature pushes us precisely because it constantly proves to us that in our present nature we will find neither peace nor rest.

The Perspective Of The Development Of The Soul

944Baal HaSulam, “The Prophecy“: I raised my eyes, and behold, the Lord stood over me and said to me: “I am the Lord, God of your fathers. Raise your eyes from the place on which you stand before Me and see the whole of reality that I have created existence from absence, upper and lower together, from their very creation in the unfolding of reality through their continuous evolution to their completion, as befits the work of My hands by which to be glorified.

The Creator shows Baal HaSulam the perspective of the development of all souls during the period when they begin to correct themselves starting from our generation onward until all of humanity gathers together in one single group in love, in mutual guarantee, mutual connection with each other.

Humanity will represent one single soul in which the Creator is revealed. This state is called the world of infinity, a complete correction that we must achieve in the near future.

For this, we are given The Book of Zohar with the Sulam Commentary.

Why Did Adam Taste The Forbidden Fruit?

260.01Question: Did a man or a state called Adam HaRishon, the first man, ever exist? Did he suddenly feel the tree of knowledge of good and evil within him?

Answer: Yes. The tree represents states that one can aspire to and grow.

By tasting the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, he sees that it is detrimental because he begins to receive from this life in his egoistic desires instead of rising above them, and at the same time, he completely loses the whole upper world.

We exist in a certain space that is unfamiliar to us. This space can be perceived by us in its entirety only if we reveal all our inner potential, all our desires. Then it will be called the upper world.

This same space can be perceived by us in a very limited form, in our small gray world that we now feel.

The difference between the worlds is the difference between life and death, because the existence in our world is like death. I always desire something, but can never find it. Since birth, my life is a slow death.

Question: Why was Adam suddenly compelled to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil? After all, everything was so wonderful.

Answer: The Creator deliberately set him up so that he would understand the state he was really in. As created beings, we can only feel something relative to something else.

When Adam HaRishon was in a perfect state, he did not feel it as perfect. He did not yet have analysis or synthesis, doubts, desires, aspirations, or their fulfillments. He did not know that there were differences between them. Everything is understood in comparison. Everything is felt through its opposite.

But he did not have that opposite. He had to fall into our world in order to gradually rise from it to the higher attainment, to the upper world, to see what the Creator had in store for him.

Arvut Obliges Bestowal

941Connection, incorporation, all of these are signs of broken souls, broken desires coming closer together when they feel how far they are from each other but try to come closer. They have a goal to reach the most correct form of the corrected soul, to become one person with one heart, and to restore the system of Adam HaRishon.

The next step in this rapprochement is Arvut (mutual guarantee). This is no longer a simple incorporation, penetration into each other’s desires, but a willingness to exist instead of a friend. It is an active action.

Incorporation can still be egoistic, but mutual guarantee obligates each of us to act for the sake of the other. Therefore, mutual guarantee is an action that completes our corrections.

Complete mutual guarantee means that each one includes qualities of all the others in himself, all the qualities, desires, and thoughts created by the Creator in the common soul of Adam HaRishon. The entire complete soul and every part of it become completely identical, that is, the general and the particular become equal to each other. This equality of the general and the particular is the sign of the corrected spiritual Kli.

It is important the mutual guarantee to come from our sense of responsibility toward the Creator. That is, I am ready to be a guarantor for everyone in the system of Adam HaRishon, for the entire common soul, replacing anyone in his place, and answer for him before the Creator. It turns out that I am responsible for correcting the entire common soul of Adam.

In an effort to reach mutual guarantee, I try to find in what I can replace my friends in order to take upon myself more and more of their responsibilities. I find out what they have to do for the created beings and for the Creator, and I am ready to take it upon myself. The mutual guarantee obligates me to this.

We are able to replace each other because we originally belonged to the same soul and only the shattering separated us from each other, made us opposite. It is precisely this distance that separates us that we can fill with love, as it is said: “Love will cover all crimes.” Then we reach a truly powerful Kli, which is 620 times larger than before the shattering.

The complete correction of the soul of Adam HaRishon is reached through the complete guarantee of each part for all the others parts: everyone is included in everyone, each part includes the whole, and thus, we reach the perfect Kli.

In spirituality, the particular and the general are equal and there is no difference between them. Therefore, the mutual guarantee can be realized only after complete incorporation and responsibility like people sailing in the same boat, if they drown, they drown together.

Through incorporation and mutual guarantee, even the smallest, secondary Kli contains all the Kelim within itself and is able to perform the functions of the entire common soul. There is no difference between this particular soul and the general soul.

Because of the mutual guarantee and the willingness of each one to replace the other, it turns out that everyone includes the entire soul of Adam HaRishon and is capable of serving everyone if the need arises.

Help Your Soul Grow

944“They Helped Every One His Friend” is the most important topic because it is dedicated to our mutual integration through which we build the Partzuf of the soul of each one of us and all of us together. Without such mutual integration, we will not be able to build a spiritual vessel and feel spiritual phenomena, the upper force, the Creator, in it.

To achieve this, I need friends, not just for external communication, but those with whom we will merge heart and soul and help everyone in the ten to get impressions from others, to be imbued with their qualities. So each one will form a Kli in which they can feel the whole ten. Everyone will include everyone, and our Kli will be built through this.

This work continues until the very end of correction. More and more people are coming together, each in their own ten, building themselves up. And then the tens connect to each other. When the ten begins to feel as one, it feels the desire and the need to unite with other tens.

The same method of connection applies here, and the Kli grows and becomes more complex. The first spiritual vessel consists of ten friends, and the second one, where twenty people are united, already has the power of one hundred people because it is ten times ten, etc. This is not linear growth, but exponential.

Therefore, when you come to a group, it is not enough just to learn together with your friends. I need to be imbued with their qualities and to collect the special aspiration to the Creator from each of them. It turns out that we all include everyone.

Otherwise man does not have a soul if he does not build it. Therefore, it is not enough just to be in a group and participate in all the activities. The main thing is to try to adopt aspirations for our connection and for merging with the Creator. By doing this, we build a network of connections between us in which we reveal the upper force according to the equivalence of form with it.

At the congress, we must try to achieve this mutual integration, to help each other in this. This will be facilitated by the general atmosphere, the participation of a large number of tens, as well as the connection within each ten, which will affect everyone both from the environment and internally.

This is how I build my soul. It is not by chance that Kabbalists decided that the tens, ten people in each, should unite. In the ten, everyone annuls himself in order to integrate with others, to adopt their qualities and spiritual aspirations.

I no longer care about any personal qualities of my friends except for their aspiration to spirituality. I need only to be imbued with them and build out of them the first nine Sefirot of my soul. I myself am the last Sefira Malchut, which annuls itself in order to receive the first nine Sefirot from its friends and use them to build the Partzuf of its soul. And so does every friend in the ten.

And then we are impressed by what everyone has built within themselves through mutual integration with their friends, and we have a real, independent spiritual Partzuf with which we continue the same construction. Each ten tries to be impressed by another ten and absorb their mutual integration, their aspiration to the Creator, and so we build an increasingly complex and larger soul until we build the entire soul of Adam HaRishon.
