To Go Straight To The Goal

Laitman_631_3Torah, Deuteronomy 13:06: And that prophet, or that dreamer of a dream shall be put to death.

A person can’t trust any of his qualities and senses: neither thoughts nor calculations. He should annul himself to zero, adhere to the upper governance, and begin to receive everything from there.

Disclosure of the upper governance gradually enters his system and only to this extent can a  person conform to the upper force. They are ready to work with the bestowing, and then with the receiving desires.

Therefore it is written: “put to death a dreamer” in you, who will constantly instigate you to go in a different direction. You should eradicate all the qualities that lead you away from the path.

Dreamers are the basis of a person’s lack of trust in the Creator, in faith above reason. After all, all one’s thoughts, knowledge, and experience can change very rapidly to the radically opposite, to such an extent that it is hard to believe.

For example, the results of modern discoveries in quantum physics already prove that there is no time, movement, space, and so on.

Everything in this movie happens in such a way that a person in his macrocosm absolutely does not agree with the microcosm. Nevertheless, he has to agree because the frontier experiments with the microcosm obliges him to do so.

He can’t get away from these results, and, therefore, although he doesn’t understand them, he accepts them. And later he tries logically to attach his mind to it. However, he succeeds only partially and for a short period of time.

Scientists will soon reach a dead end and understand that it is impossible to advance this way further. After all, in our senses we can’t imagine events that take place outside of time and space, and are closely interconnected with each other even though they are billions of light years away from each other.

It is a terrible state when you see the whole cosmogonic picture and compare it with the earthly one: what have we done here with our little animal egoism?

“For The Lord, Your God, Is Testing You…”

laitman_603Torah, Deuteronomy 13:2 – 13:4: If there will arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of a dream, and he gives you a sign or a wonder, and the sign or the wonder of which he spoke to you happens, [and he] says, “Let us go after other gods which you have not known, and let us worship them,” you shall not heed the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of a dream; for the Lord, your God, is testing you, to know whether you really love the Lord, your God, with all your heart and with all your soul.

The Creator does everything that happens in the world. And He is very jealous. He constantly sends us all sorts of temptations so we can prove that we are still committed to Him. Moreover, the temptations are sent in such a way that we are sure that we are doing everything correctly and can’t disagree with them.

For example, I am told, “What is wrong with you? How can you act this way?! It can’t be that the Creator did this! Look, we have proof from Him! How can we listen to you? Sorry, but we’d rather listen to ourselves.”

And who says this? Not even strangers, but my own qualities within me. At this point, exactly these qualities and forces have the evidence and the authority that lead me sideways. It seems to me that this isn’t egoism but seemingly the right desires.

Did people know that they were going by the egoistic way during the destruction of the First and Second Temples?! Now we read about it in historical documents, but they thought that they were acting correctly, that there was no other way, and that this way they would be doing good and getting closer to the Creator! They were on a high spiritual level and were called the militant part of society.

We need to understand that the Creator plays with us seriously, and we must try to enlist external support in advance.

But today we are in a different tendency. The tendency at the time of both Temples was to bring people to a shattering, a dissipation, and a mixing with the rest of the nations of the world. Now, on the contrary, it is gathering and shaping people into one single system and distributing the force of connection from it outward. The connection gradually begins to emanate and spread to the rest of the nations of the world.

All of us together and each of us personally must change the direction, the paradigm, and correct many things. This is the choice of the spiritual path instead of the egoistic earthly existence.

Comment: We are used to direct evidence, experiments, and science that shows us the real results.

Response: Now, thanks to this same science, we are reaching a dead end, we’re up against the wall. Science throws its hands up and doesn’t know what to do. And it will occur on all levels.

Agricultural engineering, zoology, biology, and other simple earth sciences that people are engaged in will suddenly stop working. We’ll find ourselves in the world where we not only gradually lose the reins of control, but even the understanding of where we are and what we want to control.

First of all, we will see that we don’t have the reins in our hands, and secondly there are no “horses,” meaning the system that we used to control. There are none, we don’t see it; something revolves around, but everything is like in a dream.

Only in the wisdom of Kabbalah can we find an answer to the question of what is happening to us and what we should do in order to really take the system of control into our hands and become the creator of our destiny and the goal to which we must come.

Everything For Spiritual Ascent

laitman_236_02Torah, Deuteronomy 12:29 – 12:30: When the Lord, your God cuts off the nations to which you will come to drive them out from before you, and when you drive them out and dwell in their land, beware, lest you be attracted after them, after they are exterminated from before you; and lest you inquire about their gods, saying, “How did these nations serve their gods? And I will do likewise.”

Nations are the internal qualities of a person. When he enters the land of Israel, he reveals terrible problems —his evil qualities called the nations of the world that pull him apart. Therefore, he should be very careful. On the one hand, a new level of attainment is revealed to him, but on the other hand, at the same time, it is the level of a curse.

As it is written, “I give you elevation and descent, either rise or fall, either blessing or curse.” All this runs in parallel because you can’t climb the spiritual degrees if you don’t discover terrible, unpleasant, vast egoistic layers within you and correct them. The ascent is built exactly on their correction.

A person that advances in the attainment of the spiritual world must rejoice that his egoism is growing and he is feeling he becomes worse. He loses the desire for spiritual elevation. He doesn’t want anything and becomes harder and rougher with others. All sorts of problems appear in his life. He sees the entire world, including himself as ugly and can’t do anything about it.

It reveals an egoistic level internally on himself and externally on everything else, up to the Creator. This is the egoism that has become much bigger than before the entrance into the egoistic level called the land of Israel. Now, on this level, a person will have to work seriously on himself.

The most important thing for him is to realize that all the falls, adversity, problems, and assaults from everywhere are required for his spiritual elevation. Suddenly, he is blamed for something, subjected to all kinds of claims from the surrounding society, pouring out his dislike, hatred, and disrespect. All this seriously hurts him, gives blows to his “I.”

Moreover, the problems also come from his family: wife, children, friends, and relatives.

Therefore, the most important thing is to understand that the Creator does all this, who out of love for us, He sends us adversities, wishing to attract us to Him. And we must learn to “kiss the stick.”

When it goes over our flesh, we can’t do anything. But later a person begins to think, to compare one with the other, to slowly come to understanding, and to make a small step forward. And so he moves in small steps. Every time the revelation of evil indicates that there is a rise ahead.

Question: Can you justify what is happening at this point?

Answer: No way! It is written, “There is no righteous man on earth who has done good and did not sin first.” The Creator prepared all the sins in advance and is only revealing them to us.

From the feelings inside “transgressions,” you realize that it is your whole world and you are in it, so you can’t see them from the side. People can talk beautifully about it, but when they get into such states they become absolutely complete participants and it is impossible to say anything to them.

By sinking into so-called sins, we can’t do anything, we don’t have any freewill in this.

The freewill is only in creating such an environment, such an atmosphere, that, despite the fall, would help us with its illumination from the distance to rise quicker and to start the spiritual ascent.

The “Holy Still” Level

laitman_281_01All the great Kabbalists wrote their books only from the attainment of the upper system, upper forces, and upper governance. Exactly through his attainments, Moses wrote the Torah as a story of the crossing the Sinai desert for forty years. It, in fact, speaks only about spiritual actions.

It is the same with Rambam and other Kabbalists. Each one selected some kind of special, earthly form of presentation that was close to him and described spiritual phenomena. The interesting thing is that when you explain this on the earthly level, you receive such laws that through keeping them, the society becomes totally different. It is as if society conserves itself through protection from bad internal problems.

This level is called Holy Still (Domem de Kedusha) and it protects a person from many problems because some illumination of the upper forces descends upon him. Although he doesn’t understand anything and just keeps the traditions, he protects himself.

However, the goal is not in this; this is just a minimum level of preservation. It is followed by the vegetative, animate, and human levels where certain efforts are required from us to change our internal state.

The first level, Domem de Kedusha, doesn’t require anything apart from one thing: “Preserve yourself.” You were given this tradition and you must scrupulously abide by it.

However, if you don’t keep it, you fall from this level. To keep means to work always against constantly growing egoism. It is necessary to rise constantly in order to compensate for the descent of egoism. It is impossible to be just spiritually still because the people of Israel fell from this level.

In those times, sages taught on the spiritually still level and tried to pull people to the higher degrees so that they themselves would advance and grow spiritually. However, the people thought that it is enough for them to stay the way they are, “Why shouldn’t I be the same as my grandfather?! I perform everything as required.” A person doesn’t even feel that everything that he does is only mechanical.

Thus, there is what is called the descent of the generations to the point that we see today. And everything is just because they left the spiritual ascent. After all, it is impossible to remain on the same level without compensating for the growing egoism.

Covering Transgressions With Unified Love

laitman_938_02The soul is our desire to get fulfilled due to the correction and is connected with the desires of other people so that there are no barriers between them anymore.

This common desire is felt by us as one and is called the vessel of the soul. The feeling that we reveal in this common desire is called the Light of the soul or its fulfillment.

But we must sort our desires and fulfillments and always ensure that they are directed only to the mutual bestowal between us and from it to the general mutual bestowal to the Creator.

The vessel of the soul is constructed in such a way that all initial negative qualities remain in it, and the corrections are made above them. That revelation of the transgressions of egoism and their subsequent correction give us a sense of the depth of the connection between us.

We see in our world how in a family and in a friendship various problems arise constantly because we are egoists. And until our egoism is corrected by going through quarrels and conflicts and then correction, and more conflicts and more corrections, we can’t be sure that we are connected with each other.

Therefore, the gradual revelation of all the problems is necessary in order for us to correct ourselves continuously and to connect with each other.

At the same time, those who move forward feel the various problems and contradictions even more, so much so that they can’t cope with them. In this way the general system, the general soul, teaches them how to find the correct connection between each other and where they actually are.

And so on, until the very end! Only once all the transgressions are revealed and a unifed love is revealed above them, a person can be sure that he really is righteous. It is impossible to come to this state if he hasn’t revealed wicked in him.

The Creator reveals this in him; after all, there is nothing new, everything comes from the source of our souls. All the “crimes” are inside a person, and he is obliged to reveal this. The revelation happens in stages, not immediately, according to the qualities, abilities and relationship with the world that he is given. Here he must be in connection with the Creator, in gratitude to Him, and must cover everything with love.

A person is not given what he can’t handle. Evil is revealed only once the Creator gives a person certain internal and external circumstances so he can rise above the evil, overcome it, and cover it with love.

Do Not Add And Do Not Subtract

laitman_032_06Torah, Deuteronomy 13:1: Everything I command you that you shall be careful to do it. You shall neither add to it, nor subtract from it.

All the measurements of spiritual actions must be very precise. A person cannot do less or more. If he does less than he can perform in order to bestow, it means he was greedy and didn’t give enough of himself. And if he does more, then it means that he thoughtlessly attracted his uncorrected egoism to it.

It should be cut exactly along the verge of realizing that we can work in order to bestow up to the certain state and no further. Then there will be a clear distinction, no more and no less.

All this is decided in the head of the spiritual Partzuf. The soul has a head part and a body part. The head part finds solutions for all the problems, and the body part implements them.

Question: Can the body part disagree with the head part?

Answer: No, it can’t. But the confirmation of what you realize must be exactly in the material body part. In other words, the head should know clearly what you can allow yourself in the body. It doesn’t happen often in the material world, but the spiritual path is built entirely upon it.

“You shall neither add to it, nor subtract from it” is an absolutely clear action measured in advance.

If you make the calculation “no more and no less” in your head, it means that nothing will happen to you in the body.

You won’t go into either Klipa (impure qualities) of the right line or Klipa of the left line.

All The Creation Is Me

laitman_929With the correct connection of all the parts of the single soul, they must be joined together and incorporated into one single whole so that common knowledge, common opinion, common faith, and common “food”: bestowal and reception from each other, will circulate in it, so this single system of the hearts (desires) and intentions (mind) will work correctly, and everyone will feel the entire system.

When we together are connected to this system, each through all connects to everyone and each one feels that he is not just a small part of the system, but is the system itself – Adam. In other words, everything included in this system and everything that is created is me.

I feel that the Creator created me personally because when I connect to each piece of the soul, I feed it and receive from it. It turns out that my inclusion in bestowal and reception is absolutely unique and individual because I am the one who does it. And this is the same from your side and from his side.

Everyone feels like one whole. There is a single Creator that has a complete open contact with the single creation – each of the six hundred thousand pieces that make up the soul.

Feeling full contact with the Creator is the spiritual degree of a human. In our world it is similar to how a woman demands that a man belong to her fully, leaving nothing for him: no life, no work, no thoughts, and no mind. She instinctively wants to absorb him.

In principle, the same desire is revealed in a person with respect to the Creator; after all, a person is considered a female (receiving) part relative to Him. This is how it works; we must reach this state. It is manifested only on a spiritual degree and won’t work on any other levels.

If a person lived far from Jerusalem, and in the past, living 100-200 kilometers from the city was considered a great distance, he did not have to travel there in order to pay his tithe to the Jerusalem Temple or to donate a lamb, because he could pass it to the local representatives (the Cohens) at the place where he lived. And they, in turn, passed it to Jerusalem.

At that time, everything was very well organized locally: services, education, development, and schools. Everyone had to learn to perform certain obligations to society, to pay taxes, and all this was recorded by public servants – the Levites and Cohens.

Therefore, it was not necessary to go to Jerusalem to deliver something to the state treasury. Everything was available locally.

From the spiritual point of view, we all are in the general system, and through its power center, the Upper Light is revealed and dispersed to the entire system. However, a person does not have to be in the center of this system, it is not even his place. His place is where he is and from where he must be properly connected to the system that surrounds him in order to create an integral connection with it.

Question: What does it mean “in thy gates”?

Answer: Gates mean these conditions, according to which you connect with the common system: You affect it and it affects you; you give it everything so that it would function correctly, and it supplies you everything necessary to exist in it. Gates are the power of your internal connection to the common system of souls in order to organize a common soul – Adam.

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe study of the Torah is often perceived as a simple study of the book’s text. However, we need to understand what is written in these stories. There are four languages in the Torah: Pshat, Remez, Drush, and Sod (a simple narrative, allusion, allegory, and mystery)—four stages of understanding the material.

The text of the Torah can never be perceived in the ordinary sense as a historical narrative.

This is a code that we must decipher. It has four degrees of understanding and the deepest degree is the wisdom of Kabbalah. Through it we reach the truth, and therefore Kabbalah is called the true wisdom.

Each one can decipher this code, but in order to do it, he must change himself, develop and expand his mind and senses. Then he will discover what is actually written in the Torah.

There are four stages of presentation of the Torah, and each of them is an additional development with respect to the level where we are born and live in this world. The Torah doesn’t imply that its text will be understood literally, as in any other book. It expects that a person will change himself and understand the writing on a more internal level.

Imagine that a child reads a fairy tale with his mother, how a prince met a girl, fell in love with her, and took her to his palace. The son only receives very shallow, primitive information from this story, and a mother understands it more deeply and sees what really happened there because she is familiar with the nature of people. That is, each understands the story according to the level of his development.

First, we need to understand that it is necessary to develop a person so that he will understand the Torah. The Torah itself prepares us for the understanding of it, if we study it correctly. Advancing to the love of others, the great rule of the Torah, to the extent of the expansion of this love within ourselves, we learn to understand the Torah deeper and deeper.

We perceive the reality where we live in a wider, deeper, and more multi-faceted manner. Then we really see all four degrees in it.

Love for others begins with close friends and extends to the nation and then to the entire world. If the entire humanity becomes as close to me as my own children and myself, then from this feeling I can understand what the Torah says; there is no other way.

Question: Who develops whom? Does the Torah develop a person or does a person have to develop to understand the Torah?

Answer: A person can develop only through studying the “inner Torah,” in other words, Kabbalah.

Love for others reveals new feelings in us that allow us to exit ourselves. Now I want to draw everything to me and to investigate it within me, only for my own benefit. But if I go out and begin to love my neighbor, I feel the reality that is outside of me. It already doesn’t depend on my relation to it and how much I benefit from it. It is the way it is by itself, as if I don’t exist.

Reality is not refracted in my feelings and mind anymore. After all, once I exit my own egoistic perception, I acquire the feelings and mind of the general system that the Torah provides to me. These are the feelings and mind of the upper system, and with them I can feel and understand all of nature in its true form.

Thanks to this, I reach eternity and perfection inherent in nature. I don’t bring interferences to nature as before due to my limitations, stereotypes, incorrect understanding, and perception in the material senses and the mind that I acquired during the life in this generation.

It turns out that the Torah raises me to the degree of eternity and perfection. I even cease to depend on my body. The body can suddenly get sick and die, and I will stay in the same consciousness, in the same mind and feelings that I acquired. Since the Torah is eternal, it makes me an immortal person—an eternal entity that is called the soul.

New Life 783 – Going Up To The Torah

New Life 783 – Going Up To The Torah
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Yael Leshed-Harel

What is the meaning of going up to the Torah, what is the spiritual stage called Bar Mitzvah, and what kind of process is a person beginning to go through when he reaches this stage?

The Torah is the program of all of reality; it explains how the higher power operates on us.

Main points:

  • Two forces come from the higher power—right and left, and they are found in everything. A person must balance both of them.
  • “And you shall love your friend as yourself is the great general rule of the Torah” (Yerushalmi Nedarim Chapter 9) means that all options and situations will be directed for the benefit of others.
  • Spiritually, going up to the Torah means reaching the middle line, the balance between the two forces.
  • Going up to the Torah for a Bar Mitzvah indicates the maturation of a boy who is ready to achieve balance.
  • There were Kabbalists who achieved balance before the age of 13, but most people don’t achieve balance until the end of their lives.
  • To realize the Torah, we must be in a special society that aims toward balance between people.
  • We must organize ourselves within a Minyan, a group of ten, a group, and through these connections between us, we discover the good, balancing force. This force connects us, balancing between our ten opposing egoistic forces.
  • One cannot read the Torah except in a Minyan because reading the Torah is the discovery of the higher power.
  • There is the Torah that explains reality; there is a Torah that operates as the Light that Reforms, and there is the Torah that is the discovery of the Creator.
  • The Creator is the origin, the root of everything. All our tendencies in life are directed toward discovering our roots.
  • Cohen, Levi, and Israel are practices that symbolize the different intensities of a corrected ego.
  • The Holy Ark and the curtain symbolize the stages of intellectual and emotional development on the way toward discovery of the Torah.
  •  The cantillation signs: Taamim, Nekudot, Tagin and Otiot, are the four stages of attainment of the higher power.
  • A person who organizes his inner desires according to the Torah and everything that is in it, is called a “man of Torah.”
