From One Moment To The Next

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe highest level a person attains is called Moses, and only from this level does a person begin to understand how to connect all the desires inside him in order to work for love of and bestowal to others, and through that, the Creator. This means that only the level of Moses can attain this state of the soul when it is clear how it should be stabilized, connected, and collected.

Collecting all the parts of the soul requires a special penetration into the senses, into the attributes of the egoistic material that leads to the understanding of how it can be presented and connected so that it will work like the altruistic attribute of the Light. This is the work of Bezalel.

Moses is the attainment of the Creator, while Bezalel is the realization of the form and the image of the Creator inside the egoistic desire. Bezalel is in practice, but in practice with a wise heart. There is the wisdom of the mind, attainment, which is Moses and there is the wisdom and the work of the heart which is Bezalel  (which means in the Creator’s shadow in Hebrew).

Moses creates a shadow of the Creator and Bezalel attains this shadow and sculpts the ego from it, and from the ego, the resemblance to the Creator. This is like projecting a picture on a wall and then drawing it. But all the work is done inside a person.

At the same time we don’t create anything new, but simply take our ego and sculpt it into different forms like clay by putting the focus on the importance of certain forms instead of others. If in the past I used myself for my self-benefit, if I abused or stole, now I do the opposite, I use myself for your sake.

There is a change of variables by which everything changes from for my own sake to your sake. Who is ahead, who is more important, determines the whole difference between the worlds.

Question: If I hold on to Moses inside me, will I never leave it?

Answer: This cannot be because the desires and the attributes in you change. This means that you have to hold on to Moses every second. Every moment is different from the next in that the desires change and each time you have to hold on to him again.

The same thing happens in our world, but we simply don’t pay attention to it. In spirituality all the work is done from one moment to the next, from ascent to descent.

Desires For The Sake Of Others

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe Torah, (Leviticus),”VaYikra,” 1:5: He shall slay the young bull before the Lord; and Aaron’s sons the priests shall offer up the blood and sprinkle the blood around on the altar that is at the doorway of the tent of meeting.

Blood is the force of life, the innermost part of the egoistic desire. So before eating the sacrifice, all the blood must be drawn from it, it is forbidden to eat it in any form (as strange as it may seem, this is actually what we are accused of).

The four corners of the altar are the four egoistic phases: the root phase, phase one, two, and three, which are the four phases of a person’s nature, corresponding to the still, vegetative, animate, and speaking levels of nature. So the innermost egoistic desire that the blood symbolizes has to drawn from them.

Sprinkling the blood on the four corners of the altar means that a person pulls out all his desires and sprinkles them on the outside. Thus he confirms that the part that has been cut off from his egoistic desire, the altar, is actually altruistic and is aimed at love and concern for others.

In the spiritual world, the Surrounding Light works against the external vessels (the desires), which we cannot correct. So only the inner attributes are called the altar.

This refers to the correction of the desire that can be used for altruistic work. It isn’t about anything else in the Torah because our correction is only to gradually transform our selfish desires into desires that benefit others for the sake of the Creator.

A Live Replica Of The Upper World

Dr. Michael LaitmanA person should understand the egoistic nature of our world and see it through the next world since one Sefira is inside the other. When I see through every object in our world its root in the upper world, I build our world in the same way. This is called building by the force of Bezalel.

In the future we will have to compare the two worlds. This is the very last phase of the world of correction when our whole world will change according to the form of the upper world.

Then all the objects, the volumes, all of people’s attributes, and everything around them will be connected in this form and for this use. All the movements and the relations between them will be identical to the next Sefira in the upper world.

If I give something, say something to someone, or perform certain actions on the level of still, vegetative, animate, and speaking nature, it is because in the external world, in the external spiritual attributes, there are also such actions and changes. This means that we have to bring ourselves to complete resemblance and equivalence to the Creator, since the external world and its actions is the Creator while we have to make a live replica of it in our world when all our attributes, desires, and movements should match what happens in the external world. It is the same for all of us. This is called complete adhesion of our world with the Creator through a corrected person (the general image of man).

This is an inevitable state which the whole world will reach. Then our world will pour into the upper world and the whole system of the worlds will disappear, as it will fold into the world of Infinity.

One can claim, of course, that at the same time people will become the Creator’s slaves or robots. However, their resemblance to the Creator is gradual according to their work on themselves. They become like Him by voluntary efforts, attainment, adhesion, according to their understanding that this is the uppermost, perfect condition of the existence of nature.

Towards The Purity Of Intention

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe Torah,  (Leviticus) “VaYikra,” 1:3: If his sacrifice is a burnt offering from cattle, an unblemished male he shall bring it.

“An unblemished male” is the attribute of complete bestowal because it must be true at every level of work, one must examine if the intention is really directed to bestow, if it doesn’t deviate to the direction of receiving.

After all, if we begin to receive in the intention to bestow, we will immediately find defects within ourselves and that we cannot object to the great incoming pleasure and are not able to give it.

Let’s suppose that you are poor and hungry, and you are to transport bags of gold or portions of food. How would you act? Would you be able to resist the temptation?

Of course, we understand that there are other desires and stimulations of our ego that are bigger. But it is not just food, hunger, or riches but huge envy and hatred towards the one you need to give to. Since you see that to your enemy who tortures you and to the people closest to you, you must do only good, without any kind of reward, and you must do so so that he won’t even know and will continue to hate you.

Question: It looks like the desire for the sake of bestowal with a defect is unsustainable?

Answer: It depends on which level. At every level there are requirements.

Question: Even at the corporeal level. For example, starving Africa is assisted with a large supply masses of goods, but it starves more and more.

Answer: So we provide, and they starve. Africa is the richest continent. If it had been developed, it would have been more successful than America today. There is everything there!

But in our providing it with cheap merchandise, we killed domestic production and agriculture, and transformed people into a generation of idlers, and that was it. And now we are teaching them to fight with each other.

The intention to bestow must be pure, and only then will it bring benefit.

A Concealed Intention

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe Book of Zohar, “VaYikra,” Item 411: The root of all the sins is the increase of the left over the right. Every person has a root Above, and a person who sins increases the left and separates it from the right and creates a dispute between the right and the left, just like the dispute between them before the middle line included them.

All our actions in this world are characterized by nothing but the intentions. If, for example, I kill a man, it all depends on whom I kill. If I kill an animal, the main point is why I do it: perhaps I kill only for the fun of it and perhaps I want to give someone a present.

This means that all our actions are characterized by the intentions, because the same action can lead to a terrible outcome and it can lead to a good outcome, but our intentions are concealed. So the wisdom of Kabbalah is called the concealed wisdom. It teaches us how to control our secret and true concealed intentions which are behind our decisions and our ideas.

When we begin to search ourselves seriously, we come to the conclusion that we are total egoists who seem to act for our own good, but who actually only cause ourselves harm. How can we change ourselves so that we will really do ourselves good? This is a problem.

All our work is internal and so it’s called the concealed study. Another’s eye doesn’t see how a person works on himself, who he is and what he is, since the great changes are internal and not external.

When a person begins his spiritual work, he withdraws into himself and becomes simpler, but at the same time, he seems a bit strange to others because totally different values that are not accepted in society gradually develop in him, which may appear strange to those around him. But on the whole these are trivial phenomena.

The Angel Raziel

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe Book of Zohar, “VaYikra,” Item 324: Blessed are the righteous whom the Creator teaches the deep secrets of Above and below. And it is all for the Torah, since whoever engages in the Torah is adorned with the crowns of His Holy name.

Since the Torah is the Holy name and whoever engages in it is registered and is adorned with the Holy name, and then he knows the vague deep secrets of Above and of below and never fears.

The Torah is the extension of the upper Light which can be drawn only by the connection between us. Therefore we have to create a certain circle of people who yearn to ascend above their ego and discover in the connection between them the force of love and bestowal that exists in nature but which is concealed from us.

Adam was the first to attain this secret force, which exists in nature but which is not felt by us, and described it in the book The Angel Raziel. We will have to do the same thing.

Although it seems that Adam was alone, it is actually a general figure. If we reach this state as we become one whole, one heart, Adam, we will discover the force called the angel Raziel.

A Man Is The Head And A Woman Is The Neck

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe Book of Zohar, “VaYikra,” Item 63: A person shall sacrifice means to take out the one who has not wedded a wife, since his sacrifice is not a sacrifice, and he has no blessings, neither upwards or downwards.

This means that it says a person shall sacrifice, and he is different, and he is not a man and is not part of mankind, and the Shechina does not dwell upon him, since he is flawed and is called an invalid, and an invalid should keep away from everyone, and all the more so from the altar in order to bring a sacrifice.

An unmarried person is a person who doesn’t want to work with his ego. He has only one part, the male part.

In our world it’s expressed in a person who doesn’t want to take upon himself the special burden of worrying about a family and prefers to lie comfortably on the sofa, reading the paper, or watching a football game on TV. Whereas, in the spiritual world, he doesn’t want to work with his ego. Therefore, he cannot be called Adam, a human being, since Adam is the image we gradually raise inside us by correcting our ego to altruism.

By building an image inside us that resembles the Creator, we attain the state of Adam, which means the one who resembles the Creator. A person who really engages in spiritual correction always clarifies his ego, struggles with it, and discovers its correct form. It’s the work a man has to do with his “wife,” with his other half, which he builds inside his corrected ego.

Question: How is this expressed in our world?

Answer: Today the role of women in the process of spiritual correction is very important. They understand the method of correction correctly and take an active part in fulfilling it. I truly bless their actions and their serious impulses and their yearning for the goal. They help each other greatly and they also help the men.

As our world develops, there is an increasingly greater need for their participation, which confirms the saying that the man is the head and the woman is the neck, and when the neck turns, the head also turns in the same direction.

Spiritual Actions In The Allegories Of The Torah

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe Book of Zohar, “VaYikra,” item 73: All the sacrifices are male and female, since the sacrifice is above the heart, which is about the thought that is above the heart. And it shall be known what is about the heart, which means the thought.

The thought that is clever is considered a male, and the heart is considered a female, Bina, the heart understands that it receives from Hochma and because the sacrifice rises upwards, it is all male.

There is no point trying to picture all the allegories in the Torah (the sacrifice, the fire, the smoke, etc.) according to corporeal concepts. Everything has to be above the thought, and the thought is totally abstract.

This refers to inner emotional corrections only, which a person performs on his desires and his intentions, and nothing more. The Torah doesn’t oblige us to perform these actions on the physical level.

We know that in the last days of the second Temple, people did everything that is written in the Torah very enthusiastically and even burnt poor animals, but did not engage in inner correction, so the second Temple was destroyed. The same thing happened with the first Temple, which was on an even higher spiritual level.

This is how the complete fall of humanity to the corporeal level gradually happened, and the inner correction gave way to mechanical actions.

We shouldn’t take all the instructions in the Torah literally, because if it says that we have to eat the sacrifices, it means that we have to receive the Light of Hochma, the Light of wisdom in the corrected desires, and not that we should literally eat meat.

The allegories in the Torah are so confusing for a person who is not prepared that they summon totally different images and feelings in him that are related to our material world. The transition from this language to the real meaning of the Torah, that speaks only about spiritual actions, is a great problem.

Understanding The Meaning Of The Torah

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe Book of Zohar, “VaYikra”(The Lord Called), Item 88: …this indicates that there is nothing in the Torah that is weak or broken. When you observe and know it, you will find it is as strong as a hammer that breaks the rock. And if it is weak, it is from you, as it  is written, “For it is no vain thing for you,” and if is empty, it is from you.

If we don’t keep all the conditions, the principles, the definitions, and the rules that are in the Torah, we are left empty. We cannot be filled with the Light that was prepared for us according to our correction.

Unfortunately, an empty reading of the Torah is typical of most of humanity. But a person’s real condition should be revealed to him carefully. It is better if he discovers it by our leading questions. Then, it will be his achievement, and thus he will change himself.

No pressure, not even minimal pressure, will lead to anything. A person must be brought to such a society and to such conditions that he will learn everything in the lessons and the workshops by himself where everyone mutually complements one another. The teacher should sit nearby and correct his students only from a distance.

The Secret Of The Creator’s Name

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe Book of Zohar, “VaYikra” (The Lord Called), Item 16: And the opening of the Lights of the four letters of Yod-Kof-Reish-Aleph (יקרא) [Yikra, “will call”] is considered a calling and an invitation for Moses to come to the tent of meeting.

The Creator is revealed in a name of four letters. Since our desire is made of four phases, its correction is gradual—from the lightest phase to the darkest, most egoistic one—and it is the gradual revelation of the Light of the Creator that corrects all our desires and fills them. We reveal the name of the Creator, which means that the Creator is revealed in us.

The attainment of the Creator is according to the four letters, according to the four levels of the correction of the ego. The Torah tells us about the Creator’s name, which cannot be pronounced and which is a secret until a person reveals it inside him. Reveal it and the secret will become a revelation.

This name is not expressed since it is impossible to write or to express it as it is revealed inside us. This is a person’s problem, as it is said, “If youth knew and if old age could.”

We cannot tell or show others what each of us attains because the person you want to convey this to must have the matching attributes.

The prohibition of expressing the Creator’s name is not a taboo, but the inability to put the spiritual sensations into words . One can pronounce His name endlessly, but it won’t mean anything to anyone.

This is the reason that most of the holy books were concealed from humanity, so that people would not get confused with anything in them. Now, when our ego is ripe and can use these books correctly, more or less, in order to correct itself, they are revealed to the world.
