The Difference Between The Wisdom Of Kabbalah And Other Sciences

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: All of the sciences are generally involved with the discovery of nature, meaning the Creator. So in what way is the wisdom of Kabbalah different from the rest of the sciences, even though it also calls itself a science?

Answer: The wisdom of Kabbalah is a science for the discovery of the higher power, the only director, which is called the Creator. But unlike the rest of the methods that speak about what a person must do to bring the Creator closer to himself, the wisdom of Kabbalah explains that the discovery of the Creator happens to the degree that a person comes closer to the Creator.

The wisdom tells us that a person must discover the Creator to a greater and greater degree until His full disclosure. This means that the entire wisdom of Kabbalah is a method for changing and correcting a person from being opposite and against the Creator to being completely similar to the Creator.

The Value Of Desire

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe Torah, “Leviticus,” 27:1 – 27:4, 27:7: And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying, Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: When a man expresses a vow [pledging the] value of lives to the LORD, the [fixed] value of a male shall be as follows: From twenty years old until sixty years old, the value is fifty silver shekels, according to the holy shekel. And if she is a female, the value is thirty shekels;

And if [the person is] sixty years old or over, if it is a male, the value shall be fifteen shekels, while for a female, it shall be ten shekels.

Value refers to the size of the desire, to its intensity, which a person must express in his relationship with the Creator. The meaning of “When a man expresses a vow [pledging the] value of lives to the LORD” is according to this value.

A shekel symbolizes the desire that is required of a person called a man or a woman at a certain age. This is determined according to the intensity they work in order to bestow and thus are similar to the Creator and connected to Him.

The People Of Israel – The Connection Point Between The Worlds

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe Torah, “Leviticus,” 26:44: But despite all this, while they are in the land of their enemies, I will not despise them nor will I reject them to annihilate them, thereby breaking My covenant that is with them, for I am the Lord their God.

The spiritual task placed on the part of humanity called the “people of Israel” is not transmitted to other peoples and cannot be transferred to them.

It depends on the inner foundation of the soul in all peoples. If he is created from that part of the illumination of the collective soul (Galgalta ve Eynaim) that once answered to call of Abraham, it cannot be changed or destroyed. This part is in every generation and creates a physical body around it. In this manner, all advance forward. Even if the people of Israel wanted to, they couldn’t give it up or deny it. This is impossible. It is a constant part of the general desire created by the Creator called Galgalta ve Eynaim, which is the smallest part, the most clear and closest to the characteristic of bestowal.

It must carry out its destiny. There is no escape; this is a physical law. The people of Israel are the point of connection between our world and the upper world.

Fearing The Sound Of A Rustling Leaf

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe Torah, “Leviticus”, 26:36 – 26:37: And those of you who survive I will bring fear in their hearts in the lands of their enemies, and the sound of a rustling leaf will pursue them; they will flee as one flees the sword, and they will fall, but there will be no pursuer. Each man will stumble over his brother, [fleeing] as if from the sword, but without a pursuer. You will not be able to stand up against your enemies.

We have to fulfill our role. This is our only salvation! What is more, it makes no difference where we live; we have a mission that we have to carry out with regard to the nations of the world, and therefore not everyone has to live in Israel. But we have to engage in fulfilling our mission! If it requires the physical return to Israel, then we will also have to do that. The main thing is to fulfill our mission.

However, I don’t believe that we can completely fulfill our mission somewhere abroad. But in Israel, we have to do everything in our power so that the people will know of our mission and will understand the reason for it. Even if they are seemingly in their right place, the situation isn’t right; we are surrounded by both external and internal enemies.

Each man will stumble over his brother, [fleeing] as if from the sword, but without a pursuer. You will not be able to stand up against your enemies. These words refer to our internal state. Although we will be affected by external problems, it will not be to such an extent, but we will begin to feel that our situation is scary, flawed, shaking, and dependent without any real basis, because we have actually brought it upon ourselves.

This is actually what a person has to understand. The most interesting point is that we can offer ourselves, our nation, the whole world, and the Creator, who is waiting for it, a bright future. But we don’t want to do anything and are ready to sit and shake with fear like scared rabbits. It is because the sound of a rustling leaf can hardly be heard, while we hear it and shake.

You Cannot Escape Yourself

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe Torah, “Leviticus,” 26:36: And those of you who survive I will bring fear in their hearts in the lands of their enemies, and the sound of a rustling leaf will pursue them; they will flee as one flees the sword, and they will fall, but there will be no pursuer.

This is about a state of absolute lack of confidence. No one in the world feels fear, uncertainty, and worry like the Jews. We have very special feelings of inferiority, fear, humiliation, dependency, and I would even say, guilt. These attributes are revealed in us in a very distinct manner because our mission and goal is to make the nations of the world feel that they are connected to one another so that the Creator can be revealed among them. Imagine how a person feels who constantly causes others harm by his inaction!

This is how everyone feels! A few years ago, my grandfather’s brother, who emigrated from Russia before the revolution, came to visit me with his family. He and his descendents have been living in England for almost 100 years. They are very well off, but there is something that they feel the same. If we dig a bit more deeply, we will discover that they all share the same feeling of guilt. It does not depend on our circumstances.

In an interview with Larry King, a famous American television journalist, I was asked why anti- Semitism is again rising in the world. This was the issue he found most painful. He is in his 80s, has Russian roots, and although he has been living in America his whole life, he feels that he came from Russia. It seems that it has been so long, all long forgotten, but he instantly understood me. The recognition of our responsibility for the world doesn’t disappear and the Creator will not let us escape it. We have to fulfill our mission, our goal.

What Is Prophecy?

Dr. Michael LaitmanProphecy is a level of spiritual attainment. The prophets appeared after the Temple was built when the nation of Israel began the descent from the level they were on. The prophets come after the Torah. After the time of the Torah comes the time of the Prophets, and then there is the time of the Writings.

The state of Prophets was revealed after the nation entered the land of Israel. A prophet is a certain level of connection with the Creator. Basically, every Kabbalist is on that level, but a prophet is a person who reveals the Creator either on the level of Bina or the level of Hochma, according to his internal attainment.

On the level of Bina he says: “I heard,” because Bina symbolizes the spiritual hearing and on the level of the Light of Hochma he says: “I saw,” because Hochma symbolizes spiritual sight.

The Punishment For Laziness

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe Torah, “Leviticus” 26:34: Then, the land will be appeased regarding its sabbaticals. During all the days that it remains desolate while you are in the land of your enemies, the Land will rest and thus appease its sabbaticals.

Eretz (land) is Ratzon (desire). If we are not engaged with the correction of our desires, certainly there must be some kind of punishment for the opportunities and the conditions that we missed, which are those needed for making a connection between us, for love, to gather together and to make it possible for the Creator to be revealed between us.

According to our unity and the pressure we create, He can be revealed between us with greater energy and in an abundance of revelation. If we don’t do this, then all kinds of negative situations that were used incorrectly accumulate, and then we pay our debt for this.

It is written, “Then, the land will be appeased regarding its sabbaticals. During all the days that it remains desolate…” This means that we didn’t work with our desires and now it is necessary to balance everything all at once and with one blow. This is received in the form of suffering.

Question: What is “the land will be appeased regarding its sabbaticals?”

Answer: The Sabbath is a seven day preparation for connection on a particular level. But if we neglect this, then as much as we didn’t carry out the connections, they remain negative and uncorrected (this could be the seventh year, the year of the Jubilee, and so forth), and become a very great debt.

The Brain Processes Words Like Pictures

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from MedDaily):” A recent new study that found the brain processes words like pictures. It doesn’t see letters and doesn’t add up sounds, but instead perceives each word as a picture. The neurons distinguish whole words and not their parts nor letters.

“The brain remembers what each word looks like and then uses a special, illustrated dictionary. We identify the faces of people we know in the same manner. But the identification of faces is related to the right hemisphere of the brain, while the identification of words is related to the left hemisphere.”

My Comment: According the wisdom of Kabbalah, only  clear attainment of increasingly newer depths of the world by our internal sight will allow a person to attain all of creation, which is the Creator. The attainment is divided into two parts: creating an internal tool of attainment, the Light of Hassadim, the attribute of Bina, which in our world is called hearing, and self-attainment, the Light of Hochma, the Light of attainment, that in our world is called sight.

Goodness In The Opposite Light

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe Torah, “Leviticus” 26:14 – 26:17: But if you do not listen to Me and do not perform all these commandments, and if you despise My statutes and reject My ordinances, not performing any of My commandments, thereby breaking My covenant, then I, too, will do the same to you; I will order upon you shock, consumption, fever, and diseases that cause hopeless longing and depression. You will sow your seed in vain, and your enemies will eat it. I will set My attention against you, and you will be smitten before your enemies. Your enemies will rule over you; you will flee, but no one will be pursuing you.

Everything we read about here is inside a person. It is the fear of our own shadow, since if we are not ready for the spiritual ascent, the Creator’s face seems as a terrible darkness to us. The greatest fears, scares, and horrors a person can experience appear when he encounters the attribute of bestowal to which he is the complete opposite.

Everything is based on the fact that we must prepare ourselves for the revelation of the Creator. Otherwise, He turns His face to us, but we are seemingly opposite to it, and so we turn this picture and perceive it as the opposite part, since we are not ready for it. Then, bestowal seems to us as the most terrible punishment, when we are actually the ones who create the darkness through our incorrect internal images.

All the troubles and the afflictions that seem to be sent to us by the Creator are perceived as sufferings because a person wrongly perceives the good states that the Creator reveals to us because the time for these revelations has come. Instead of feeling that they are good, a source of life, and mercy, a person feels them as …shock, consumption, fever, and diseases… .

Because we are not prepared to perceive the Light correctly, we feel the Light as darkness. The Creator never conceals anything from us. On the contrary, He constantly reveals things to us, but because we are totally opposite to Him, the revelation is very painful. There is no greater horror for us than the revelation of the attribute of bestowal and true love because this feeling is worse than death for our ego. It is because we cannot perceive this attribute, assimilate it, and melt it inside us.

Therefore, we are told: But if you do not listen to Me and do not perform all these commandments, and if you despise My statutes and reject My ordinances, not performing any of My commandments, thereby breaking My covenant, then I, too, will do the same to you; I will order upon you shock, consumption, fever, and diseases that cause hopeless longing and depression.

How Does One Break Into The Computer Of Creation?

Laitman_712_03The wisdom of Kabbalah speaks only about the discovery of the higher system that is concealed within our nature. Behind the nature that we see, feel, and discover with our five senses, there is a system that manages us, our entire lives, and all of our development.

The wisdom of Kabbalah is engaged with discovering this system. It explains how this same system, the upper force, created us, how we exist, how we are evolving, and what kind of state we must ultimately attain.

This entire system is called Elokim (God). Elokim and nature (HaTeva) are the same thing (they have the same numerical value according to Gematria, and this indicates that they have the same essence). However, by the word “nature” we don’t mean the physical nature that surrounds us, but an immense system, a minute part of which is revealed to us, whereas 99.9% of it is concealed.

Scientists also confirm that they have discovered only a minute part of what is happening in reality, but they hope that, through the continued development of science, they will discover what is concealed. But there are strata in the system of nature that we cannot ever discover with our five physical senses because these senses are limited—it’s just five organs of sensing in total and the tools that we create to expand their range.

Here, what we need is an additional, new method in order to discover that hidden system in which the higher management that develops us is concealed. From this system, we can see, feel, and discover for ourselves what our fate is, what motivates us, and whether we have freedom of choice in everything that we do—or does it only seem that way to us, but, essentially, we are not free, and we are only realizing the will of some force, some desire of a unique program?

Question: Does this system manage my life and the life of everyone now and at all times?

Answer: Certainly! This is a general and complete system within which we exist, as if we were within a gigantic computer that determines everything for us, transforming us and moving us through different situations from the beginning of creation to its end.

Question: Does the wisdom of Kabbalah investigate this gigantic computer?

Answer: Yes. It reveals to us the entire reality, including this world and the upper world. It explains how we move between five worlds and how we attain the final state. A person who begins to recognize and attain this system is called a Kabbalist.

Question: How does this knowledge and attainment influence the a person’s life? What does it give to him?

Answer: When a person becomes familiar with and attains the higher system, the person discovers all of the forces that operate on him and the consequences of his actions. He discovers whether his actions are planned from above or whether he can insert his free and personal component into them. Is this life a “rigged game,” as if it were, in some kind of machine, and there is nothing to be done about it? Could it be that someone is watching it and following it from the outside, carrying out all kinds of exercises and experiments on it that he doesn’t know about, only carrying out the will of the higher desire in this world—or can he attain a state in our world in which he adds something of himself, and, moreover, can he discover the higher desire and obligate it to be involved with him such that he makes his own choices? A person discovers all of these things.

Question: Are you saying that there is some kind of system that manages me now, at this very moment?

Answer: Not just now, but always! It is beyond time, motion, and space.

Question: But I don’t feel it; I don’t feel that someone is managing me. I manage myself!

Answer: Do you feel how your body behaves, how it is managed? No, it has an inner program, and it acts like some kind of mechanism. You don’t feel this, but within it there is an infinite number of states and processes.

Question: I thought that the brain manages my body.

Answer: This is only the way it seems to you. Your body manages a much more complex program.

Question: Who manages me?

Answer: That same gigantic computer, the higher power, manages not only you, but everyone together, all of reality.

Question: But what does it want from my life?

Answer: The higher power wants you to discover it and become its full partner. This means that you will discover what its purpose is, how great, complete, eternal, and good this power is.

Question: How can we break into this immense computer?

Answer: To do this, you need to be a talented hacker.

Question: Which hackers break into this computer?

Answer: Those who learn the wisdom of Kabbalah can penetrate into this computer, into the higher system.
