It is very easy to determine whether a path is spiritual: everything we agree with is not spiritual!

What does belong to it are precisely the opposite things, which are not accepted by our reason and feelings and are unwanted and hated. Those are exactly what we must work on.

If I do not feel any benefit from some state, neither emotionally nor mentally, then only by rising above that state can I begin to build the spiritual. After all, in such a case I am certainly not bribed or seeking personal gain, and in order to rise above it, I will need the help of the Creator.

So I constantly check myself: to what extent does my body resist my work? And this becomes a sign of correct advancement for me.

Then I need to look at why I am doing this. Maybe I want to rise above myself and pursue some personal goals.

Or maybe I want to find the love of the Creator, which is repugnant to our “body”—the egoistic mind and feeling. And I am looking for love that is entirely built on hatred of egoistic thoughts and desires about myself.

But often we do not try to rise above our body, but regret that we cannot work according to the mind and feelings contained within the body, rather than seeking the state that lies above reason and feeling, and desiring to be in it.

First of all, we must push the body down with all its feelings and reason, be above them, and not take them into account. That is, we take them into account only in order to rise above them. This is called faith above reason.

Instead we lament: why is everything not revealed to my mind so that I could act like a sensible person, and know that I possess intellect and my own strength for proper advancement?

Comment: Desire develops the mind. You say that it is not the intelligent one who learns, but still a person becomes smarter.

My Response: But this reason appears as a result of new feelings, sensations, and changes in one’s desires.
Comment: So a stronger desire emerges, and because of that the mind increases as a side effect.

My Response: No, it is not a side effect. It truly is auxiliary. It serves the increased, transformed desires.

But we always thought that desires were just some kind of passions, something else, and that the mind is something we can rely on. In reality, that is not how it is. You begin to see that everything is completely different, the world is arranged the opposite way, precisely because desire is the basis of matter.

That is, if you act only within our world, then knowledge is above desires. But if you desire to enter the upper world, you begin to understand that all your advancement depends on the change and correction of your desires. Therefore, they become the main thing for you to address. And knowledge and reason are adjacent, as something auxiliary.

Comment: I wouldn’t say that. After all, all your previous knowledge allowed you to express certain things.

My Response: But nothing more. Only in my profession as a teacher, but personally, I don’t need it.
Inner intelligence, that is, internal development does help, of course, but it depends on the type of soul.

I’m serious. I want people to understand that the level of earthly knowledge, whatever it may be— psychological or scientific—gives a person absolutely nothing for spiritual advancement. For explanations, for work, for something external perhaps it does. But not for the person himself.

Question: You always speak about annulment before fate, before what the Creator determines. When you say this, what exactly do you mean?

Answer: I mean that I consciously agree with what is placed before me.

Question: Even with my illnesses and so on?

Answer: Of course.

Question: Meaning that this is from You, and it is necessary for me. Like that? And what happens then with my pain, with my suffering?

Answer: Agreeing with it creates serenity within a person. He agrees with his fate, he agrees with the Creator, he agrees to accept everything that is allotted to him according to his destiny.

Question: Is it like an anesthetic?

Answer: Yes.

Question: And this is called annulment?

Answer: Yes.

Question: And one must reach this?

Answer: I believe so.

Indeed, you should know that the reason for our great distance from the Creator, and that we are so prone to transgress His will, is for but one reason which became the source of all the torment and suffering we suffer, and for all the sins and the mistakes that we fail in (Baal HaSulam “Introduction to The Study of the Ten Sefirot“).

It is necessary that the question of why we are distant from the Creator, why we do not feel Him, should burn within us.

Clearly, by removing that reason, we will instantly be rid of any sorrow or pain. We will immediately be granted adhesion with Him in heart, soul, and might. 

Baal HaSulam says we should know that the true reason for our distance from the Creator lies in the lack of our feeling, awareness, and knowledge of Him. After all, we do not feel Him as the One who is within us and who governs us.

Comment: A person stands not knowing where to go. He hears this deliberation of paths: at the end of one is hell, at the end of another is heaven. Still, he does not move anywhere. It is as if he is torn apart; he does not know which way to go!

My Response: This is our feeling every second.

Comment: So, these roads, it is not just that I stand and make a decision right now. I am always in this state.

My Response: You are always in it.

Question: Am I always at a crossroads?

Answer: Yes, every moment.

Question: So, how do I eventually decide which path to take?

Answer: You decide nothing. You decide nothing; everything is decided from above. You are led as you must be led. And this is already known and predetermined in advance. So the main thing is to agree with it, not worry, and connect with the Creator, who is arranging everything. He will take you by the hand to where you must go. You just obediently correct yourself, that is, be in agreement with Him at every moment.

Question: One way or another, do I stop at this fork for a moment, for some time, and then I need to agree with Him and go where He directs me?

Answer: Yes.

Question: Is this what it means “to go where the heart leads”?

Answer: That is how it is said. According to the definition of a straight line. A straight line is actually a curve in every point of which there is a turn.

Comment: I did not know that. For me, even from the first grades in school, it is two points and a straight line between them.

My Response: No. You cannot draw a straight line; you do not know the final point. But at each point, you make a turn, and that is why it becomes a straight line.

Comment: A person does not choose his path is what you say. The Creator chooses it for him. And you always emphasize that the line is to agree with the Creator.

My Response: Yes.

Question: Why do I agree? Is it out of exhaustion, out of wisdom? What is stronger here?

Answer: Because this is the only correct option. I am not tuning myself to something supernatural. I am not making any special decisions. I simply want to flow with the current of life in agreement with the Creator because it is above me from the beginning.

Question: How do we come to this wisdom? We keep choosing something all the time.

Answer: Then be a revolutionary. Go ahead!

Question: It is already clear that this is a lost cause. Is it a true revolution when I agree?

Answer: It is when you agree with the Creator because that is against your nature.

Question: Is that what it means to rise above my nature?

Answer: Yes, our life is a struggle with our own egoism, with what we would like for ourselves. Therefore, only such an approach is truly rational.

Question: So does “I decide” live inside us live? Is the real reversal: “You decide, not I”?

Answer: Yes, that is why we must jump up, hold on to the Creator, and in this way fly forward.

Question: I must hold on to the Creator, what is that?

Answer: It is the nature of the whole universe. A great force, the wisest force that revolves everything. And we are tiny particles within it.

Indeed, we are given the ability to realize that above us there is something that controls us. To agree that He governs, this is our wisdom if we can reveal it.

Comment: And this additional element, which you always say, that all is good, that is the hardest to accept.

My Response: If He governs and there is none else besides Him, then what remains for us? The most rational thing we must do is to submit to Him. To submit, not out of weakness, but out of understanding.

Question: Then do I automatically understand that I am moving toward good?

Answer: Yes, and then we will move toward good.

Question: What is faith in the wisdom of Kabbalah?

Answer: Faith is bestowal above reception. We use the force of faith because within a person, there is no inherent force of bestowal; one must receive it from the Creator. Through the influence of the upper light on a person, the ability to bestow is created within him.

It is like a magnet holding a piece of metal. The ability to bestow is maintained in a person only because he is under the influence of the upper light, and that is why it is called faith. He must be permeated by this impression from above, and only then can he perform altruistic actions, selfless calculations. That is why it is called faith.

If bestowal arose from his own strength, it would not be called faith. It exists only on condition that the upper light conveys its quality to the person and creates the ability to bestow within him. The quality of bestowal in a created being comes from its similarity to the upper light, its aspiration toward the upper one, and therefore, it is called faith.

Comment: You have a very broad mind, but the human brain cannot perceive and sense the entire universe so broadly. There is wisdom in you.

My Response: This is a consequence of spiritual attainment, not because on the earthly level I am intelligent. On the earthly level, I am not Newton or Einstein.

Question: Then where does your vast knowledge come from?

Answer: The fact is that I have a completely different volume of desire. In my desire, I look at everything that happens in this world as a game of little children. I see our world on a level that I can easily grasp, understand it through-and-through from top to bottom and from bottom to top in its entire volume, in all its connections. For me, it is like a sandwich.

I see it consisting of four parts: still, vegetative, animate, and human levels of matter, and see how they interact with each other and gradually develop so that the human level will finally rise upward, into the spiritual world, and pull all the other levels along with it.

I see this purely speculatively, visually, but precisely because I have developed a spiritual Kli, a spiritual desire, within myself. Otherwise, I would not be able to see with such volume and such clarity from top to bottom and, so to speak, manipulate it.

I have spoken with scientists in our world with great minds who contain so much information based on the fact that “someone said,” “someone thinks,” “according to this,” NS “according to that.” They drown in an enormous mass of information, unable to chew it. Because they rely on knowledge, and therefore, it is difficult for them.

Question: But you cannot see through all the states of other people, can you? You are not omnipresent to see everything as if on a plate.

Answer: Yes, I see nature in general. Of course, I do not know all the states, all the metamorphoses, everything that happens and passes through each one. I simply know the general plan of development. I have gone through it myself and therefore understand what the others must go through since the path of the individual and the path of the whole are absolutely identical.

I know the nature of all transformations and changes, and therefore, it is no secret to me. I do not know a person’s private states; I am not a psychic who can look at another person and say what he is thinking, like Wolf Messing.

Kabbalah, by the way, does not give such abilities at all (to do some kind of extrasensory tricks in our world, perform various stunts, add twenty-digit fractions, numbers, and so on). It does not allow seeing the past or seeing the future in a private sense; it simply gives the general system of all development. You feel how you pass through this system, and understand from what you are now going through, how it must develop further.

You do not enter private souls. And why is that needed? What difference does it make what I might see in others?

Question: So, you recall the states you went through, and only because of this can you understand what is happening with a person?

Answer: Of course, only from my own experience and only up to the degree on which I am today. If you ask me about what is above this degree, I can only guess, I am not certain, absolutely not certain.

Moreover, all my experience tells me that all this is absolutely incorrect. On the contrary, if you tell me: “What do you think: will it be this way or that way,” I can tell you anything, and it will still be unpredictable.

Question: If I know that I will eventually reveal the Creator’s open governance, how can I use this knowledge without egoism? I believe that sooner or later I will attain the Creator and it seems that I can already apply my future state now.

Answer: How can you apply it?

Comment: Through faith that I will reveal the Creator.

My Response: You do not yet have the quality of faith. You simply think that someday in the future you will attain it. Whether you attain it now or another time is unknown.

Therefore, focus on further advancement together with the group of friends toward the revelation of the Creator through ever-greater unity. Everything depends on the strength of your connection.

Question: If I go by faith above reason and justify the Creator yet still experience suffering—is this a correct work?

Answer: If you are experiencing suffering, then is that really the correct work?

In the beginning, you agree with the Creator, intending to correct yourself according to what is written in the sources. But then it turns out to be the opposite.

I hope you understand what I mean.
