I Don’t Want to Suffer, I Want to Enjoy!

43Question: Where does the transition occur so that I act not out of a desire to avoid blows, but start advancing at my own will?

Answer: No, you do not need to go by your will. Can we advance just because the idea is beautiful, abstract, and offers a chance to rise above the animalistic degree? It does not work like that; such a thing does not exist.

I follow this idea because I feel bad! What is the meaning of my life? I ask this question only because, like an animal, I want to escape a blow. “What is the meaning of my life?” That is an animalistic question! It arises when I feel bad, when I feel it in my body.

I do not think: “How miserable the Creator must be! Maybe I should keep Him company? Me and Him, that is already two. Maybe someone else will join too.” A person is incapable of such an attitude! It is an illusion. We are made of the will to receive, and only from this substance arises the demand: I don’t want to suffer, I want to enjoy! Or if not to enjoy, then at least to suffer less.

Question: When does my attitude shift from fear to love?

Answer: It is very simple! As soon as you turn to Him out of fear and feel that you have received a good response, you begin to love.

Let’s say someone constantly hits you and seemingly hates you. But then, from these blows, you begin to see a good result, and then you start to understand His attitude toward you. He does not want to hit you, but does so only because there is no other choice. Only based on the result do we begin to change our attitude toward the Creator.

How Can We Achieve Peace on Earth?

933Question: Are we allowed to give away parts of the Land of Israel?

Answer: We must not involve ourselves in politics or anything of the kind, but only in intention! You cannot hold onto the land by force. You can see for yourself that it does not work.

The more a person acts with force, the more he loses; much more than his predecessor. You can see; Golda Meir did not give anything away. Now the generals come and each one concedes more than the one before. Why? The lower he falls, the more he gives.

It is clear to us that we will not be able to hold on to even a millimeter here by force because our world is structured according to the spiritual world. Therefore, we must correspond to the roots. Even those who want to achieve peace or security at any cost are unable to do so.

This is possible only through the forces that govern all of creation. Our world is a consequence. If you bring the forces of the spiritual world into order, this will inevitably bring about a result in our world.

Never through any action in this world that a person wishes to carry out through matter will he succeed in doing something that will truly benefit him. Sooner or later, he will feel it.

No matter how seemingly good a person’s intentions may be, if he uses forces, matter, or laws of the corporeal world alone, he will discover the evil contained within them. This is how nature is built; correction, order, and change must flow from above downward. And above it, we act only through our intention.

No matter how insignificant our attitude toward the world may seem to us (after all, what difference does my attitude make, I cannot measure or truly understand it); nonetheless, it is exactly this that has power! This is what humanity must reveal and arm itself with, intention, the correct attitude. If not, the world will continue to fall apart, faster and faster.

Enter the World of Intentions

272Question: Why did you say that the realm of intentions at first feels like death and then will feel like life?

Answer: You asked how it is possible to live 24 hours a day with thoughts about the Creator, because it gets boring, you see nothing in it!

I answered that you have no point of support in this: the Creator is not revealed, you do not feel that your relationship with Him is life, you are not filled with it, and you do not constantly live in that dimension where you are always with Him, where you see the corporeal world as something inanimate, absolutely inanimate, as if you are looking at stones.

Right now, the world seems full of life, full of people. Later you will see that they are not really “people,” because they themselves have no free choice. They are the consequences of actions and not their masters.

When you enter the world of intentions (Assiya, Beriya, Yetzira, Atzilut, Adam Kadmon, and Infinity are all intentions!), you begin to feel life—eternal, perfect, full of possibilities for growth, understanding, and realization. All of this is endless, without any boundaries that would not depend on you; everything depends on you! That is life.

But at first, before you enter this, it seems like death to constantly think about the Creator. How can you think of Him, what He wants from you. What He wants from you is still felt as death because you are not yet receiving any fulfillment from it.

Deal Only with Intention

281.01From the beginning of creation to its end, we must deal solely with the intention against the background of the will to receive, above it. Therefore, when someone says to me, “Let’s change the world! Tell me, what needs to be done?” I answer: There is no need to destroy this world or build it anew. All actions lie in our attitude toward the world, toward reality, toward one another. That is all, nothing else is needed.

That is why our work does not intersect with any other kind of work in the world. You do not interfere with the world behaving as it always has. Let them do as they please; after all, no one is dealing with intention.

But you add only one thing to the world: intention. That is all you seek to bring to humanity, to add to it what it truly lacks. To the extent that you do so, the world begins to change for the better.

Keep The Intention

608.02Question: It is said that intention can be either for the sake of bestowing or for the sake of receiving. Are there really only two states or are there gradations?

Answer: This is exactly what we are studying: how to move from the intention to receive to the intention to bestow. There are many actions between them.

Question: But the question is, are there multiple intentions between them?

Answer: This is exactly the passage through the states of Ibur, Yenika, Mochin, etc. We are talking about intention, not action.

Even when we talk about a Partzuf being filled, what is it filled with? With what its intention is filled with, the intention becomes manifest. This is not a physical action.

The same with the Zivug DeHakaa: the intention for the sake of bestowing gets filled. What kind of filling is this? The way your intention came to fruition: to what extent you built a certain common part with the Creator. Him for you, and you for Him: you have built the place where you are together. This is called the inner part (Toch) of the Partzuf.

Your attitude toward Him is your head (Rosh); the place you are unable to do this is the lower part (Sof) of the Partzuf; the place you are with Him is your Toch. That is, it is the manifestation of an intention, a kind of conclusion of your intentions: now, inside the Partzuf, you see and know that this was your intention.

So these are all intentions. What actions can be there? Whether you are in this world or you have already died, freed yourself from the animal body and everything that is here, nothing ends, because you remain in intentions!

It is in them that life is, and everything else, this whole world, is a state preceding the acquisition of intention. When you transition to the intention, and start creating your own spiritual Partzuf, you will not need this life anymore.

Renew the Intention

222Question: Should the correct intention be attached before every action or is it enough to set it once in advance?

Answer: The correct intention must be attached before each action and renewed every second because it constantly slips away. The difference between moments lies in the change of intention! Focus only on it and you will discover that intention changes the action.

Each time it must be “revived” anew, or you must remain continuously connected to that intention and pay attention to it alone. Then you will discover that it is through intention and not through actions that you change reality. You will reveal that you are in a world of intentions.

When Correction Comes from Above

261Kabbalists are not planning a nationwide return to religion so everyone stands in line to put on tefillin. None of us even think in this direction. Especially regarding the nations of the world. Even if they become corrected, will they also have to fulfill all these commandments? Of course not!

Baal HaSulam writes that a person can even remain in his religion, as it has nothing to do with what we do. All these things are carried out only spiritually anyway: in relation, intention, and one’s inner connection with the Creator.

It may not be easy to explain this, but it depends on the measure of internal, personal suffering and the degree of general, collective suffering. If we actually reach a state where we have to take it upon ourselves, this will serve as our internal preparation, and people will hear this and understand we have nowhere else to look for help.

This is called a cry to the Creator. This is a prayer, raising MAN—all this is, in fact, the same thing. You have no choice, you must. This is how a person who is in pain, who has a seriously ill loved one—his inner concern, his fear, his anxiety is about it. This is surely revealed in him. These things, in general, correct his state, and we see this is how it is.

What does it mean, they correct it? Of course, they do not correct anything, but they lead to correction coming from above.

Live in Intention

276.04Question: How can I gain the strength to remain in intention 24 hours a day?

Answer: A group can obligate you, not by force, but through influence. It can make you want this; you will think about it day and night, and this idea simply will not leave you.

Question: In an elevated state, I can still maintain such an intention, but what should I do when there is no desire?

Answer: You must begin to live within intention, rather than through actions. It is a different dimension: I do not live by actions and relationships; I live inside the intention! Me and the Creator—how do I relate to Him? To remain in this intention at all times.

If you enter such a state for the full 24 hours, it means you cross the Machsom and enter the spiritual world. After all, the spiritual world is your attitude toward the Creator based on your intention toward Him.

Of course, when this happens, you are filled with something entirely different, your concerns shift; you live by this! So do not be afraid!

Then, whether you are studying, eating, drinking, indulging in material pleasures, whatever it may be, you remain in this intention. We are capable of this. I promise that it will happen.

The Importance of Our Attitude Toward Reality

294.2Question: We see how difficult it is for us to maintain the correct intention. So what can we even say about the whole world?

Answer: That is true. But as we study in the wisdom of Kabbalah, there is nothing but intention. The whole issue lies in realizing its importance.

Either you will attain the importance of your attitude toward reality and toward the Creator, through your own free choice or He will instill this importance in you through suffering. Choose one or the other, but you will have to do it based on importance. Importance is what you must attain. Either blows will provide it for you, or attention. That’s all. Now decide!

Today when you tell the people of Israel that another catastrophe could befall them, one even more terrible, you hear in response: “God forbid! What are you talking about?! How dare you?!”

But I only want the full importance, the full seriousness of the situation to be realized; therefore, I speak of potential disaster before it arrives. “No! Absolutely not!” they say, burying their heads in the sand.

In the Field of Intentions

910The field we find ourselves in is a field of feelings, of good and evil, of pleasures and sufferings, of information, and all sorts of relationships. Within it, one can discover that it is a field of intention, of our relationship with the Creator, from complete opposition to full equivalence. There is nothing else.

To the extent that your intention resembles His, to that same extent you will see that you are already acting. In truth, there are no actions, rather you see that intention is what is being carried out.

Even in our world, there are no real actions! It only seems that we must do something because of the gap between intention and action, between the desired and the actual.

The smallest revelation one receives upon crossing the Machsom is that the whole world exists in a certain field, and everyone fulfills the commands of this field according to their place, each one in accordance with their potential, their soul, relative to this field. Change your place in the field and accordingly, you will perform something else.

Haven’t you felt that sometimes, suddenly, you forget everything you’ve seen, felt, remembered, as if your “computer” was wiped clean and you were left a blank slate? A few hours or moments later, something is inserted, and you’re “switched on” again, like a puppet. How can this happen to a person? After all, before we began studying Kabbalah, we weren’t like this! We remembered everything, had control, knew our way around.

But once we started studying Kabbalah, we suddenly become emptied out and then filled with something else. States arise in you that you have no control over; you feel they are not “you.” A “disk” is inserted or removed in you, and you don’t know where it is coming from. This happens because you’re changing and moving through this field from one place to another.

By yourself, you are a Kli (vessel). What does that mean? Wherever you are located, that is what you are filled with. You change, move, and from that location comes all your fulfillment. Suddenly, you feel emptied out. “What happened? Where am I? Where are my feelings, my inner world?” Nothing is left! You barely recognize yourself.

Suddenly, you discover that you are in a different state, with different filling. Because you are a vessel, what fills you depends on where you are in the field of light. Then you will realize that it is intention that moves you through this field, and according to it you are filled.
