What Makes Us Change The Values Of Life?

627.2Question: We see that even being on his deathbed, a person continues to think about nonsense and does not change his values. It is scary even to imagine what scale the crisis should be in order to change us with its pressure. Who or what will make a person radically change the values of this life?

Answer: Changing the values of life is possible only under the influence of a higher power, a higher light, which lifts us above our world, pulls us out of purely animal desires. In this case, animal desires are replaced by human desires, proceeding from the next level of nature. Then we can talk about our growth.

And so in man the desires of our world prevail, nothing else. He simply does not understand what the Kabbalists are concerned about. He thinks: “If you live – live, if you die – die. What can you do? This is life.” And only if the higher light shines upon a person and under its influence does the person begin to think and make other decisions.

Who comes to study Kabbalah? Those people who have questions about the meaning of life. They are already from the next level, the so-called “faith above reason.”

We live in our flat knowledge: It is what it is. But there is still a level called “faith above reason.” It is not blind faith to believe, to be religious. This is the next level of perception of reality.

Know The Root That Starts Our Lives

Laitman_198Question: What kind of force is pushing us to find the answer to the question “What is the meaning of life?” It would seem, enjoy everything, throw this garbage out of your head, and live a full life here and now. What constantly drives us to search?

Answer: It does not depend on you, but on the root of your soul.

In man, besides the desire to enjoy this world, this life, to be better than others, stronger, more respected, etc., there is one more small, but the most internal desire—to learn the meaning of life. After all, without comprehending it, everything else seems very small, temporary, and transient.

The desire to understand the meaning of life, to find out why a person is born is very good, but it must be realized. For this it is necessary to rise above life, because in life itself, in simple existence, there is no sense. And to rise higher, you need to master a special technique.

Question: What does “higher” mean? What is above life?

Answer: It’s root is where our life starts, where it is controlled, where all the signals come to us, and where the signals from our world come.

Is Man A Spiritual Being Or An Animal?

712.03Question: What is a person? Is it a spiritual being or an animal?

Answer: It depends on the person in question. If we are talking about a person in our world, then, in principle, this is an animal that is triggered by an egoistic instinct. At every instant, he explores what is good for him, and tries to do only this. In this respect, he or she is no different from animals except for increased desire.

Our world is built on the desire to enjoy, and a person has a higher desire than others. Therefore he basically conquered the world. At the same time, this desire belittles him the most because it does not work for his benefit. In general, we do not go beyond the animal world.

There are four levels of nature: inanimate, vegetative, animate, and human. Man is the next level of our development, when we begin to rise above our egoistic desire to the opposite altruistic desire and can see nature, the world, and the forces that rule our world from above.

That is when we are called “Man” from the word “Adam” meaning “like the Creator.” The Creator is the whole universe with all its integral forces.

Once Again About The Meaning Of Life

Laitman_511.01Question: Many people believe that the value and meaning of life are in family and they do not need any Creator. Life is very difficult now. Therefore, will the one who overcomes all the problems in the family be the one who reaches the meaning of life?

Answer: I cannot agree with that. How can the meaning of life be in something that ends? It means that the meaning ends too.

Of course, family is important. It is important to fulfill yourself in the fact that you have a home and children. However, these are the necessary conditions for further growth from them and not only to remain in your cocoon, in your nest. What is the point in that?! To wait until you are carried feet first out of there?! I believe that this is not the answer to the question of the meaning of life.

Question: Why can’t the meaning of life be in life itself? After all, we see from nature that this is how all communities are organized: birds, fish, and ants. How do people differ? Why should we suffer more than animals?

Answer: If the meaning of life for me exists only at the level of birds and fish, and I am the same animal as they are, then there is nothing else. Then I live this life as long as I live, and that is where everything ends.

However, if this does not satisfy me and a question arises in me about the true meaning of life, then I must look for an answer to it. For this, I need a method that reveals this meaning. And it is in the wisdom of Kabbalah.

Or people turn to religion, engage in all sorts of calming techniques. But that is their business. It all comes down to luck.

Is There A Meaning Of Life In The Life Itself?

Laitman_198Question: Does the finiteness of life give it a special meaning? The meaning that is missing in life without the fear of death, eternal life?

Answer: And what’s the point in such a life? That I will die like an animal and all will end?

Comment: There is some kind of sharpness in this.

My Response: What kind of sharpness? The Marxist kind? “Live for the sake of others, and they for the sake of others, and so everything for the sake of everyone, and nobody for yourself!” What for? This is not the meaning of life.

There can be no sense in what ends. There can be no meaning to life in life itself. This is a primitive, materialistic philosophy, which believes that there is nothing more than matter.

When there is no answer to the question, then you satisfy yourself with this, forgetting about other things, convincing yourself that this is true.

Question: If I am the desire to receive pleasure, what more value can there be besides pleasure, enjoyment?

Answer: The fact is that receiving enjoyment is the goal of material life. Is there anything outside this? If a person does not think about it, he simply engages in the search for pleasure. Of course, it is better to enjoy than to suffer. Everyone will agree with that. But this is not meaning in itself.

Nature did not create us so that we simply live our lives quietly enjoying the years allotted to us. In our development, there is a pre-prepared requirement: “Why?”

Rise Above The Old Values

laitman_962.2Question: In the times before the virus, the main values of a person were family, earning money, maybe having a small business, not to mention a large one, etc. And now, when people are slowly beginning to come out of self-isolation, it is unclear what to do. Many businesses will not recover, there will be no tourism, planes aren’t flying.

How can a person live? By what values will the world exist after the crisis?

Answer: I think that a person, on the contrary, will have real values. All the flights around the planet, running around on sales and other unnecessary activities for which you only work, earn pennies, and spend, while someone else is profiting from you, making billions, and in general doing nothing with it—all this will come to some kind of averaging. If not completely, then at least it will fall to some normal level, “deflate,” as they say.

Therefore, a person, first of all, will look for values in their life. Will ask what you live for and try to find the answer, which is already valuable. I believe we are on the right track.

Then it all depends on people so as not to succumb to deception and some promotions, which they are spurred on by fools and the nouveau riche who do not see any value in life except adding another billion to their bank account, and then another billion. I hope that people will start looking for something higher.

And high values are not inside our life, but above it. What is there to look for in it, if it ends? Moreover, we see there is no happiness in life. We need something different, more powerful, eternal, and perfect. To the extent that a person can grasp the whole of this life and what is beyond it, he must give an answer to the question: “What is this life for?”

If we would care only for our physical existence, like animals who see nothing more, then we would provide for ourselves instinctively and would be satisfied with it. That would be enough.

But if we look a little higher, without wanting to lock ourselves in the narrow confines of our world from birth to death and no more, then we need to answer the question: “What is life itself given for?” Where is the answer to quench the thirst of searching for the meaning of existence?

Nature doesn’t do anything for nothing. And if the question of non-biological existence arises in us, in our biological life, then we can and must find the answer to it.

There are people in whom this appears as an urgent demand, and there are those who still have to develop until they ask this question; they cannot push it away from themselves and will have to find an answer to it. It’s not easy. But still, the very fact of generating this question, which occurs in us at the call of nature—is a great thing.

How To Find One’s Soul

laitman_204Question: The Netherlands has a museum of the human body. It is created so realistically that it takes the visitors’ breath away. Inside the museum, there is actually a whole city comprised of different parts of the body that you can wander through.

The visitors feel like they are tiny and moving through the corridors of an artificial human giant while watching how the blood circulates, how the digestive tract works, and the giant heart beats, how the auditory and muscular systems, vocal cords, bones, and teeth work. All this can be studied in detail and seen in action.

While traveling through the body, visitors can clearly see how harmful habits negatively affect the work of organs and systems.

What transformations occur inside a person when he becomes acquainted with the world around him and the system of connections in it? Does it somehow change his inner attitude to the world, to himself?

Answer: It can change, of course,

Question: Why does this impression, this inspiration, not act in a person for the long term, so that at every moment of time he would remember the system of connections?

Answer: Does he enjoy it or not? If he does not enjoy it, he forgets immediately. If he enjoys it, it remains to the extent that it is pleasant to him.

Question: Is it possible to make the same simulation, the same museum of “relationships between people”? Can we create such a model?

Answer: It can be an imaginary one, but it will not teach a person anything because it is against human nature. All this will be unpleasant for him.

He will be happy to see such a beautiful picture, but not to participate in it against his egoistic nature!

Question: But if everyone treats him well, does everything for his benefit, does he not get involved in this game?

Answer: It will occupy him for some short period of time, like going to a movie.

Question: And what does it take for a person to want not only to get involved in this game, but also to change himself so that this becomes his?

Answer: To do this, he must, of course, already acquire significant life sufferings. How else will he want this? After all, this all is against our nature.

Question: When a person suffers, he always wants to run away, that’s the easiest thing. And here he has a choice to acquire something else. How does the tipping point of choice happen, when he no longer wants to run away, but wants to choose a new path?

Answer: When there is no other way. When he has to find the meaning of life, otherwise life is worth nothing. I just do not want anything other than the meaning of life! Why do I need all this? Why do I exist? Why was I born? If it bothers him very much, only to the extent of this concern, to the extent of this suffering, will he be able to change.

Question: Walking through the corridors of such a museum, which are also being created in Toronto, and New York, will a person have no thoughts about the meaning of life if he is suffering?

Answer: Absolutely not! This is about physiology, not about the inner world of a person. About his innards, but not about his inner world.

Question: Where does the question about the meaning of life arise?

Answer: It is not inside a person. Not in the heart, not in the mind. It is in the soul. And the soul is not inside a person. It is next to him.

Question: How does the awakening of this question happen within a person?

Answer: The soul makes such a suggestion to the brain of a person that he begins to think about it.

Question: What is the soul?

Answer: The soul is the question about the meaning of life. For now. Later it will develop from this question.

Question: And what will it become?

Answer: It will become a capacity, in which one will begin attaining the meaning of life. The desire to attain the meaning of life is called the soul, the initial state of the soul.

Then this desire begins to fill with all kinds of spiritual attainments, spiritual—about the meaning of life. And thus, it develops.

A person begins to ask more intelligent questions, more eternal, more elevated, and receives answers to them. This is the development of the soul.

Comment: The attainment of the meaning of life is different for everyone.

My Response: And we cannot compare. How can I pull out my soul and place it in you so that you could compare two souls there?

Question: A person has a growing desire for the meaning of life. This is what we call the soul. Everyone has their own desire, which is not like the others. Then what happens to these desires? Do they connect with each other?

Answer: They do not connect. Why would they connect?

Comment: They say that there is one big soul for everyone.

My Response: This connection is different when we have one common goal. When we need to achieve one common goal, the souls connect in order to reach the common goal. But they connect with each other through opposition.

Question: Why do they oppose each other?

Answer: In order not to annul themselves. And once they connect, we have one common whole consisting of many parts.

Question: How do they connect?

Answer: Through the qualities of bestowal and love.

Question: And what do these connected desires discover about the meaning of life?

Answer: They discover the interaction with each other above common egoism.

Question: Is there some kind of single definition of this interaction between them above the qualities?

Answer: It is the common soul, Adam. The common network of connections is called “Adam” from the words “similar to the Creator.”

Question: Do people, by building all these systems of connections, subconsciously want to reach the upper network of connections?

Answer: Yes. The soul is yearning for this.

Discover What We Are Living For

laitman_293Question: People believe they are entitled to pleasure and never think anything can happen to them.

For example, if a person buys a lottery ticket, one hopes to win even though the odds are one in a million. But it is much more likely that he will be hit by a car when he goes out on the street, yet we don’t think about that. Why is this?

Answer: A person thinks only about the things he wants. Therefore, he doesn’t think about the day of his death. Instead, one thinks about how to gain something for tomorrow.

Question: Since nature has developed us this way, how can we use it?

Answer: What is good and what bad is measured against the result, what you finish your life with. And the goal of our life is to reach the highest level of existence, which is defined as eternal and infinite.

Relative to this result, you must cross the border between life and death.

Question: Does the fact that we are so vulnerable and neglect the reality that something can happen to us, moves us to the goal?

Answer: That is precisely what advances us so that we come to the realization of the need to understand what we live for.

What Does The Search For The Creator Stem From?

laitman_527.03Question: What does the need to see the good that does good stem from?

Answer: The search for the Creator appears in us when we want to feel the purpose of our life: what am I living for? Why is all this given to me? What is the purpose of this world? Man develops for centuries and eventually reaches the state in which he asks himself about that.

Yet the world does not answer a person, but quite the opposite it shows him its aimlessness and its meaninglessness. So a person doesn’t know what to do until one reaches a state of putting an end to life by committing suicide, or by taking drugs and so on because there is no reason to live.

It is actually in this generation that the wisdom of Kabbalah is revealed, which explains the meaning of life to a person.

When Does The Spark Of The Soul Awaken?

laitman_628.4Question: Can we say that when we begin to discern and accept our shattering, the point in the heart awakens?

Answer: No. The point in the heart awakens if a person has a resolute demand to discover the meaning of life. As for the shattering, we do not really understand it. It is revealed when a person begins to understand that he is made of an egoistic force and the altruistic force sometimes illuminates in him and he runs about between them. This is not the case at the moment.

Question: But according to what you say, the point in the heart is the spark of the singular soul. Is it right to accept it this way?

Answer: Of course.
