Unity that We Attain Through the Letter “Aleph”

629.3The Creator told her, “Although the world was created with the letter Bet, you will be the head of all the letters, for there is no unification in Me, except in you. In you will all calculations begin, all the works of the people of the world, and the whole unification is only in the letter Aleph” (Zohar for All, Introduction of the Book of Zohar,” “The Letters of Rav Hamnuna Saba,” Item 38)

Question: Can you explain what unity we are talking about?

Answer: The letter “Aleph – א” opens a series of signs with which the Creator depicts the universe, the forces acting in it, and the connection between them from beginning to end.

Therefore, the letter “Aleph” has a very complex structure in its image: the upper world and the lower world, separated by a border called Parsa.

Only in this case is it possible to imagine a system that really consists of two worlds, is controlled from above by a single force, and brings the entire system and all worlds to a single form.

Letters—Carriers of Spiritual Forces

193Question: In principle, does each Hebrew letter have its own specific form that depicts the manifestation of upper forces in matter?

Answer: Yes, there are only a few forces, qualities, that form letters in a certain combination with each other and these combinations, as if stamp their altruistic qualities on the substrate of our world, on the egoistic desire.

Question: How can this affect a person? For example, if I look at the outlines of letters depicting some spiritual forces, and I do not understand what this is about, do they nevertheless somehow affect me?

Answer: Yes. Absolutely. Let’s say a person is like some small animal. But if he works with these letters, if he tries to find something in them, to depict, to understand, and to read, then with their help he gradually approaches the great knowledge of nature.

By his desire to understand what this is about, he, as if, summons all these forces upon himself, and they begin to change him from within, to give him some kind of awareness.

Frozen Language

137Every letter in Hebrew is a symbol of some state that always includes the property of bestowal, the property of receiving, and their combination.

For nearly 6,000 years from the appearance  of Hebrew, there have been no changes in it. The writing and grammar have remained absolutely the same. They do not change because the spiritual world from which everything comes does not change.

This is a frozen language because its origin does not lie in our world. Our world is constantly changing, but the spiritual world is not.

However, during the many years since the appearance of Hebrew, people have changed significantly. Had we met a person from the far past, say Moses or Abraham, and they started talking with us, we would have a hard time understanding their oral speech. However, we can easily read written texts.

They are written in the same way as modern ones, with even more precision, since for the last hundred years of its usage on a daily basis spoken Hebrew has been terribly distorted. However, this does not change anything in the Kabbalistic sources.

Written Hebrew – Expression of Feelings

151Question: To what level can a written Kabbalistic text be attributed?

Answer: There are four types of expression of feelings in a Hebrew text: letters, signs above and below letters, inside letters, and musical signs.

There is no understanding of the text in and of itself in Hebrew. At the bottom of the words there must be vowel signs (Nekudot), meaning the light that comes from the letters. There must necessarily be Taamim, the light that enters the letter. And there must be musical signs, known as Tagin, which are crowns and all kinds of melodious sounds.

You cannot read a word just like that, because it is 100% regulated in its connection in the sentence.

Therefore in Hebrew neither periods nor commas are needed. There is none of this. But with the help of the correct intonation, everything that is needed is conveyed.

That is, there is a whole swarm of signs around the letter. In this way, from letter to letter, by transfusion of information, the feeling of the upper world is transmitted from person to person. This is why the text is so multi-layered.

Each word, symbol, and letter is very capacious. You read the text and feel what part of the letter is combined with another letter, with a third one, through a letter, and all sorts of permutations and combinatorics.

Moreover this is not just a word consisting of individual letters or an arbitrary grammar. If there are any letters here, then they must necessarily be repeated through some place, in some sequence, because the lights exit and enter these symbols. After all, every word means some kind of spiritual state.

Why Is the Human Level Called the Speaking Level?

238.01Question: What is the function of issuing spiritual information through sound? What is this property?

Answer: This is a human property because a person is at a speaking level (Dargat a-Medaber).

If in other languages this level is called walking upright or thinking, then in Hebrew it is called speaking, because Bina de Arich Anpin descended from the head (Rosh) of this system into its body (Guf), into the executive part, and there formed a property called Garon, throat. All changes take place in it, and from there the upper light descends upon us.

A person who receives his spiritual power from there, and therefore this level is called a speaker.

If you start to carefully study what is written in the primary sources about how we express ourselves through the throat apparatus, you will be amazed at how there are all kinds of small intricate tools driven by our thoughts, feelings, and subconscious, which are launched from within us, simply through the way we communicate with each other.

Virtually all of our communication takes place through this gross apparatus. Some strings, membranes, stretch and vibrate there, which form a rough vibration of the air. But this vibration is launched from a very high matter, from the head (Rosh), and very wisely, very directly.

The essence of a person is expressed precisely through the throat, in which there is a connection with our inner image. Therefore, “speaking man” is the correct expression. Not walking straight or obliquely and not looking forward, but namely, it is the ability to express himself in communication with others through the vocal apparatus, which is directly connected with our inner essence.

Why Has the Pronunciation of Hebrew Changed?

962.1Over the years since the appearance of the Hebrew language, its writing and grammar have remained unchanged. But the sounds have undergone various changes, as has its pronunciation since it depends on the person in our world.

The real pronunciation, which consists of guttural, whistling, and hissing sounds, has been lost by us. Today we practically do not produce, express, and understand the five types of sounds: palatal, dental, throat, labial, and cheek.

And they are very important. The same sound uttered by teeth, lips, cheeks, palate, or throat has a completely different meaning depending on which of the five parts of the soul it belongs to: Keter, Hochma, Bina, Zair Anpin, Malchut.

It all depends on how we exhale air, how we pump it through the throat. After all, the throat is a combination of Malchut and Bina.

When Bina descends from the head (Rosh) into the body (Guf), a throat is formed at the intersection of the human and animal levels, and huge changes occur there, which are the combinations of the qualities of Malchut and Bina. That’s why we don’t use any of it all.

Language—The External Expression of Inner Essence

525Comment: Hebrew is the language of Kabbalah. But why is it that you can perfectly convey the subtleties of the soul in Russian too?

My Response: The thing is, in my native language I can express the essence of spiritual feelings concisely, clearly, and correctly. I once had an excellent vocabulary everyone admired.

However, over forty years with limited use, both in volume and time, there is little left of it. But still I speak quite precisely, as far as one can express spiritual feelings in Russian.

It has a vast scope of necessary words for spiritual expressions, not precise, but sensual. On our earthly sensory level, this is an excellent language for explaining the spiritual. But a little above, it won’t work anymore.

Over time, as we delve into the upper world, we will see the roots of all languages. But the Kabbalists did not give us the key to them. After all, any language still comes from our nature, from our essence.

Therefore we can express the spiritual essence also in English, Hebrew, Russian, or almost any language because they express the inner essence of a person externally. But we don’t have the key to them.

Should we go up to look for that key? Do we need to? I do not know if this will still be in our future. We don’t have much time left to correct this world and rise above languages, above all the sounds and symbols that separate us. We just need to connect in feelings. In the spiritual world there are no differences between souls, which is called “soul to soul.” So there will be no need for languages.

Languages originated in ancient Babylon, as people stopped understanding each other. Everyone began to speak different languages. But if we speak the same language, then in the end I think it will still be Hebrew because all the symbols, sounds, and the structure of our speech organs are explained and spelled out in it. All the methodology, literature, and sources have already been prepared for us by the Kabbalists of antiquity.

Thus, except for the two related languages Hebrew and Aramaic, all other languages appeared in Babylon when egoism delivered a blow to the small humanity who lived there and began to divide it. The egoistic division between souls was the reason all other languages were created.

But the moment we begin to connect, all these languages will also connect among themselves. I do not know how to describe it, but they will combine together again into one common verbal apparatus.

“All The Letters Came Before Him”

276.02When the Creator wished to create the world, all the letters came before Him, from last to first (Zohar for All, “Introduction of The Book of Zohar,” “The Letters of Rav Hamnuna Saba,” item 23).

Question: Why do the letters come to Him in reverse order, starting with the last letter in the alphabet “Tav” and so on to the letter “Aleph“?

Answer: It is because we are talking about letters as vessels and about the light that creates them in reverse order. The light moves from above downward, and the letters rise from below upward. In this way, the light is connected with the desires that it creates.

Therefore, the letters approach the Creator in reverse order and allegorically ask Him to create a world with their qualities. It all starts with the last letter.

Question: Does it mean that, for example, Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai, who wrote The Book of Zohar, revealed how the light created his desires in him? Have people attained what we are studying now?

Answer: Of course. Kabbalists have revealed this, attained it, formalized it, and passed it on to us.

Comment: This is not like the Big Bang theory that seems to have happened billions of years ago, but no one saw it so it is all theory.

My Response: No, here we are dealing with the passing of the heritage of Kabbalists’ attainments from generation to generation.

Why Is It Forbidden to Pronounce the Name of the Creator?

294.3In the News (ati): “Interesting Words From Other Languages We Wish Existed In English” “Mamihlapinatapei, Yagan (language of Tierra del Fuego)

“This word is mentioned in the Guinness Book of World Records as the most succinct word, and is also considered the hardest word to translate. Roughly, it means ‘the wordless, yet meaningful look shared by two people who both desire to initiate something but are both reluctant to start.'”

Question: What is the depth of the word?

Answer: The word is the universe, the word is everything. “In the beginning was the Word.” In general, this word is “Yod-Hey-Vav-Hey.

This is the four-letter name of the Creator that explains the four steps through which the upper emanation descends on His creation. And everything else comes from this word.

Question: If you say that everything else comes out from it, then is this word in every word, in every action, in general, in everything?

Answer: In everything! “Yod-Hey-Vav-Hey” includes absolutely everything.

Question: What is this magic? What kind of secret is it? What are these four letters that are in everything, in absolutely everything?

Answer: This is the name of the Creator. That is, it includes the four stages of the expansion of the light from the Creator Himself to all creations.

Question: Does the light exist practically, in every word, in every action, and in everything?

Answer: Yes. And this word, the name of the Creator,  includes all the words, practically everything, and everything that happens.

Question: These are four letters. What does the first letter “Yod” – “י” mean?

Answer: Yod” is the source of the light. “Hey” – “ה”is the expansion of the light. “Vav” – “ו” is its descent downward. And the last “”Hey” – “ה” is the clothing of the light in the lower ones that already exist.

Question: It is said that it is forbidden to pronounce the name of the Creator. What is meant by this?

Answer: In principle, you cannot pronounce it in any way. No matter how hard you try. This is because they are letters. And the word itself is not a word. It is just a code. “Yod-Hey-Vav-Hey” is a code.

Question: And when it is said that it is forbidden to pronounce the name of the Creator?

Answer: It means that it is forbidden to try to name His action. Because, in principle, it is hidden from a person. So do not try to do it. Forbidden means impossible.

How Do You Transmit Spiritual Information?

509Question: What are the methods of transmitting spiritual information beside texts and sounds?

Answer: In addition to texts and sounds, there may be a direct connection between two people, what is called a common screen.

Comment: But you said that you can pass by a person who is in spirituality and you do not need to talk to him, you can establish a connection with him anyway. Just like when connecting two modems: one sends a signal, and the other receives.

My Response: Yes, you can say that. First, there is a rough adjustment with a common screen, and then it becomes gradually more accurate.

Question: But in our sphere, on the earthly level, spiritual information is not transmitted in any way?

Answer: No, of course not. You do not have these tools. Can you pour water over electric wires? They are completely different qualities.
