Comment: When you explain something, the same message always comes from you, but its presentation is different all the time. From the outside it looks like you are changing your mind and contradicting yourself.

My Response: What can I do?! My teaching is designed for serious people, let’s say people who study physics, especially those associated with such breakthroughs in science as the collider where they are looking for the Higgs boson and so on. They are in the middle and do not know what to do. This is how we live because we attain everything in comparison.

Matter always consists of two opposite elements, plus and minus, which gradually expand and connect with each other. The more complex matter is, the more contradictory, opposite are the elements it consists of that connect and complement each other. All of it is built on a contradiction.

If some people cannot comprehend it, what can I do?! They want to live like some kitten and nothing else: this is my mom, my bowl, and a box of sand.

Question: Baal HaSulam wrote the “Preface to the Wisdom of Kabbalah” after the Second World War as one of the four prefaces to The Book of Zohar.

My Response: Any lie that is supported by a multitude of people becomes the truth for them even though it has no real connection to the actual truth or what may be factual. Humanity has many such misconceptions.

We are like small insects on a tiny planet in a small galaxy somewhere on the outskirts of the universe. We know nothing about anyone or anything. We just tamper with nature a little bit, and we have already ruined it. We have dug ourselves into a hole where we no longer desire anything. So there is no point in talking about any truths. What truths are there? Everything is relative to a person, as he imagines it.

If you talk to astrophysicists or specialists in quantum physics, i.e., people who deeply study matter, they will say things that the average person would not agree with. They are already considering that there is no time, no space, no movement, and that our universe is not what it seems, that it is folded, holographic, and that man is not how he feels and perceives himself at all.

In principle, we currently have a completely distorted transitional picture. We are in a phase transition, at a point of bifurcation where all sorts of inexplicable phenomena are happening to us, and we do not know what to do with them.

And what is the truth here? Every time we make mistakes, and again search for the truth, and again accept something as truth only to find that it is not accurate. Everything is relative, and it should be that way!

The main thing is for a person never to be deceived by the belief that they have caught the truth by the tail and now it is absolute. Nothing is absolute in the world because our understanding, our perception, is just a reflection of our internal changes: we feel ourselves and not the universe, not the cosmos.

By feeling ourselves, we constantly see a variety of completely different pictures because we ourselves are changing and are in the process of some kind of evolution that we do not understand.

Now we are also going through a very serious stage of evolution. How we will perceive ourselves after passing through this state is unknown, but it will be completely different. Many scientists are already talking about this. We will perceive the world not individually, but through a collective lens, in general. And it will feel completely different.

Question: In the “Preface to the Wisdom of Kabbalah” Baal HaSulam describes the four stages of the development of the desire. We understand that desire is the basis of man. How did the Creator create it in four stages?

Answer: The fact is that initially, there was a source of light. Light is defined as the force of pleasure from everything that the Creator wants to fill the world with.

The force of light generates desire because the main and only quality of the light is the desire to fill, saturate, and delight the future creation. The Creator’s desire is to bestow, to love, to fill. In general, this is what comes from the Creator, and this determines His relation to creation.

The Creator’s intention to create and fill the creation is called “the first stage of creation”—the Creator’s attitude to the future creation. It is considered to be the first light that comes from the Creator.

Then this degree begins to create a desire within itself, the desire to receive from the Creator. All that comes from Him is the desire to receive. This desire to receive, which almost simultaneously comes from the Creator and is filled with light, is called the first stage of the development of the world, the universe.

Then the desire develops further under the influence of the light that fills it and begins to express itself in a certain way, meaning, to perceive from the light not only the filling, but also the qualities of the light to fill, animate, and love, all that is positive that the Creator or the upper light carries. Thus, from the first stage arises the second.

The second stage, first reacts to the fact that the Creator created it in the desire to receive and enjoy. But the light that works in it transmits its qualities to it—the qualities of bestowal, love, and fulfillment.

Therefore, the second degree, which is formed from the first, is absolutely opposite to it. It does not want to receive, but wants to give just like the Creator.

If the first degree, that is, the desire to receive, and the light that fills it are called Hochma, then the second degree, which is absolutely opposite to it, is called Bina and does not want to receive the light. It would like to give in the same way, but what can it give? Therefore, the second degree, in principle, remains empty except for the fact that it is filled with a sense of existence emanating from the Creator, in the sense that by wanting to bestow, it is still somewhat similar to the Creator.

Then comes the development of the first and second stages. Closing in on each other, they build the third stage, which is called Tifferet or Zeir Anpin.

But they had children without any need for this. They lived by sometimes studying Kabbalah or simply reading Kabbalistic books, some of them more and some less. They had no desire for more. I met them at RABASH’s.

Look how many students come to me—thousands! And then they leave because they see: “We need to work on ourselves, do something with ourselves.”

They are trying to find some secrets and interesting “gadgets,” just not to change themselves in order to feel the world around them through this.

But it is necessary to work seriously on yourself, to change the whole setup of your egoistic perception and thinking. “Why? Better show me some kind of trick,” but there are no tricks! They confuse Kabbalah with mysticism, become disappointed, and immediately leave.

Question: Is it possible to develop a sect from Kabbalistic teaching?

Answer: A sect is a certain structure of a closed organization where there is an unquestioning submission of the members of the sect to the guru and the so-called truths they blindly bow down before. It is possible that sects have their own paraphernalia, some conditional actions, mantras, physical techniques: dances, postures, etc.

It is impossible to make a sect out of real Kabbalah because the most important principle of Kabbalah is the spiritual development of a person. Therefore, entry and exit are absolutely free! This is the first thing.

Secondly, Kabbalah is based on personal comprehension. Third, there is no pressure on a person to do something or think this way and not otherwise. As far as you can, you adapt this knowledge inside you.

In addition, all Kabbalistic literature, which has existed for thousands of years, is absolutely open to everyone.

Comment: But sects also use well-known literature, for example, the Bible.

My Response: Maybe. Frankly, I do not know. Sect, not a sect, I have never been interested in this. I am interested in teaching Kabbalah and spreading it.

And what they say about us… People will always talk! Sometimes such opinions are suddenly revealed about me that I cannot even imagine how people can think like that if we are open to everyone.

Books in all languages, television, the Internet—everything is absolutely available. Please, come to a lecture. If you do not want to leave the house, there are virtual classes. What is there to stir up the mystery if we act quite openly? And yet, sometimes people have such ideas!

I attribute this to the fact that a person must work out his understanding of nature, society, and the universe. Therefore, these representations are formed in it. A person needs to pass them.

So it was at all times. Kabbalists have always been in a terrible state of exile, even from their own society. They lived as if within the framework of the Jewish religion, but they were not perceived there, not revered in any way, in no way respected. It was very hard for them!

Every time we read one of RABASH’s articles, it seems to us as if we are seeing it for the first time. It is because we are changing and everything is changing. After all, each of RABASH’s articles is connected to the upper force, and therefore receives replenishment from it and it passes to us. It works this way every time, like an adapter connecting us to the upper force.

These are amazing articles. RABASH achieved what no one had done before him. You still do not realize what is happening, and cannot access the correction he has made in the entire creation. RABASH was so modest that people did not understand who he was. He was extremely discreet concerning his spiritual work.

And in material life he was completely different, he could joke, tell an anecdote. He worked for many years as an ordinary laborer on a construction site and could easily communicate with other workers, just like everyone else, so that no one even suspected that he was a great Kabbalist. He was a special person.

Hebrew and Aramaic are two spiritual languages that are spelled the same but pronounced a little differently. In ancient Babylon, both languages were spoken. But their origins go back to Adam. His first book, The Secret Angel (Raziel HaMalach), Adam wrote in Hebrew. “Angel” is a force of nature, and “secret” means that this force was hidden from us 3,700 years ago, Abraham wrote The Book of Creation in two languages, Hebrew and Aramaic, because they are interconnected and complement each other—one from the side of light and the other from the side of the vessel for the light.

The Great Commentary and other books are written in the same language.

Comment: But Hebrew letters are symbols that come from Kabbalah.

My Response: It does not matter where these languages come from. On one hand, people spoke them, and on the other hand, they corresponded to spiritual symbols because Kabbalists translated them into Hebrew and Aramaic.

Language expresses a person’s feelings, his ideas. There is no language that is worse or better. But if you have taken it as a basis, then you are already following it. Kabbalists did just that. And those people who wanted to study Kabbalah had to learn this language. Just like if you want to know a programming language, you have to go inside that language, mainly English.

How many things in our lives do we take on faith without having the facts? We do not even realize how much we rely on what is going on outside. It is done purposefully and comes naturally. Thus, previous stages are worked out in us before the real attainment. Nothing in the world should be destroyed!

Baal HaSulam writes that all religions must remain. And even at the very last stages of the development of humanity when it will be able to see the whole picture of the universe, all religions and beliefs will remain in the culture anyway. Nothing should be destroyed. What dies, dies. What does not, does not.

The question arises: when everything is revealed to man and the complete picture of the worlds is attained, will there be room for faith? Of course not. After all, faith is what I accept without verification, analysis, and without making sure of anything. This will no longer be the case. But Baal HaSulam claims: whatever they want will remain as culture.

That is, everything should work out naturally. Man must go through all this, or he will not develop. You cannot drag him through a stage like through a class at school. He must gradually attain all this. Therefore, there is no violence in spiritual development.
