Can We Learn How To See The Future?

laitman_928Question: I really can relate to your explanation about man’s place in nature, that as a result of his egoistic evolution, he becomes lower and more miserable than all the other creatures. Sometimes I look at my dog and envy his life. He isn’t troubled by any questions and has no problems. His only problem is what to eat right now.

In the past, when humanity was struggling to survive, it didn’t ask about the meaning of life. Now, when we have reached relative affluence and don’t have to struggle for our daily bread, the question of “Why do we need this whole game called life?” suddenly comes up.

It turns out that all of our wisdom, our evolution, and our brain are worthless because they don’t provide us with the answer to this basic question: what should the next phase of our evolution be? Can we see our future?

Answer: If there is a question, an unfulfilled desire, a deficiency, for seeing the future, then we probably can find an answer. There were people in our history who could foresee the future. Interestingly, the future exists! The question is whether we can connect to it.

If we evolve according to nature’s plan, then apparently we can discover, read, understand, and feel it. After all, it already exists in nature in the form of balanced forces. Astrophysicists who study life in space also say that the entire universe is one thought. Scientists who explore nature are quite materialistic, and, at the same time, they claim that we exist in a field of thought.

The software of evolution that operates us is embedded in nature. We are the product of this software, and we evolve according to this scenario. This software manages the balance between the forces of nature. As a result of this balance, elementary particles have connected into objects and bodies, and this is how our entire universe has evolved since the Big Bang until today.

How can we discover this hidden layer of nature? We know that the main law, and, in fact, the only law of nature that determines all our feelings, our understanding and our perceptions, is the law of equivalence of form. According to this law, if I feel something, it happens only because this attribute exists in me in some form.

If I see a yellow or a white color, if I hear sounds and feel flavors, it means that I discern something in my senses, which means that these forces, these attributes, just like the phenomenon that I perceive, exist inside me. This is actually the reason that I can feel that phenomenon. One thing determines the other; my internal model matches the external picture.

We can see that in children who don’t notice many phenomena around them until we explain these phenomena to them, give them suitable games, and help them see, feel and taste things. This means that a person can develop the feeling of the unknown future internally.

We can discover the future if we first explore nature that is above us. If the entire universe is a great software, like in a computer, and what affects us is this one thought, one idea, then we should learn how to become more familiar with it and learn its plans regarding us. How can we connect to it? Which senses, flavors, sensors or thinking do we need? How should we prepare our hearts and minds, which means our desires and thoughts, in order to feel the future?

Here, we encounter a very serious problem. After all, nature, being the upper thought that sustains us and controls us, is absolutely integral, round, and mutually connected. It doesn’t break up into separate components, still, vegetative, and animate nature, and man, or into separate colors and sounds. In nature, everything is connected into one whole that is tied internally.

As a result of the evolution of humanity on this planet, it gradually discovers the connection between people, which is growing stronger. This is despite the fact that we don’t want to connect, and each of us would rather sit alone and have no one disturb him. But it doesn’t work, and each day we discover our increasingly greater interdependence.

Even different scientific fields are becoming integrated today. The same laws, the same relationships, operate everywhere, but in a slightly different manner, and as a result, we divide them into laws that operate on solid bodies, on liquids, gases, and plasma. In fact, there are no differences in nature. We are the ones who divide it into different areas—biology, zoology, mechanics, electricity—and study each area separately. We simply cannot perceive everything as a whole, as one integral form.

We divide nature into different areas so that we will be able to understand it a little. However, there are already many trends that connect several areas, like my first profession, bio-cybernetics. We create more and more interdisciplinary sciences since we realize that, in reality, everything is unified.

In ancient times when science wasn’t so developed, scientists had universal knowledge in all areas, like Leonardo Da Vinci, for example. Each of these great men was a genius in philosophy because philosophy included all the knowledge about nature. However, later, we developed our knowledge of nature to such an extent that one person cannot perceive it all. This is the reason that we had to divide our knowledge into different areas, but it is actually the same system.

Therefore, we should learn, feel, understand, and know the upper plan that operates us at the moment that will operate us tomorrow and in the many years to come. When we get to know it, we even will know what will happen to us after we die. After all, our consciousness, our feelings, and our knowledge, will not die together with our protein body when it ceases to exist. It is an absolutely different matter. These are forces that don’t disappear. We will learn about life outside the body if we become integral like all of nature and become familiar with its plan.

In order to do that, we must develop an integral sense so that all of the people all over the world and all of nature, will connect into one unified system so that there will be no differences between them. If I build my perception this way, I will feel that I and all of the other people connect into one. I suddenly will feel that I live on a higher dimension than the one I live on today. I will begin to feel the plan of creation and the forces by which it operates all of us as one.

You may be afraid to lose yourself as a result and afraid to tie yourself to others, but you should know that it is actually thanks to that that you will begin to get to know yourself.

Four Levels Of Freedom And Servitude
Grow To Be Human

The Making Of A Good Year

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What should we do so that this year will be a real new year for us?

Answer: It is very simple. The Torah says: “I have created the evil inclination.” And indeed all the division and shattering of our world, all the contradictions and the oppositions, the ego and unreceptiveness, the lack of understanding, everything that humanity has been through during its history, is of course, the Creator’s doing. So a person has to come out of his own ego in order to understand Him.

Weak or very egoistic people, who are ready to trample the whole world, are not attracted to this kind of work. On the other hand, they have big egos, are not satisfied with this world, and it doesn’t interest them. They want to control the whole of creation, know everything that happens, and discover everything so that there will be nothing that they don’t know, feel or control.

The revelation of such an ego in a person is indeed a gift from the Creator. This means that a person is ready for attainment and ready to pay everything he has to in order to reach that. Then he finds himself in the right group, where people like him get together.

This group is under the influence of the Kabbalistic method where people come and eventually undergo very serious states of resisting their ego, rising above it, and connecting to one another. They learn all the processes on themselves and feel, discover, scrutinize, integrate and do everything necessary. Eventually, the right picture of the world is formed within them. They build the Creator in the connection between them, because this is the only way He can be revealed.

It is impossible to reveal Him other than by this connection and other than this platform on which He is revealed. It is a force that requires matter in order to reveal Him within it.

Electricity, for example, can be revealed in something such as in the form of a dial moving, wires heating up, or an explosion. Only then can we say that there is some force there. It is the same with the Creator who is simply a force without matter. We have to provide the matter ourselves, so that this force can be revealed according to accurate physical laws.

There is nothing irrational or mystical here. It isn’t religion, but the science of Kabbalah. Therefore, all our attention and all our efforts are focused on how to create the conditions in which the Creator can be revealed. We need to put this matter together by its separate parts, combining the attributes of bestowal, mutual guarantee, and mutual incorporation so that the spirit will appear within this matter.

We sculpt it for a long time and suddenly our statue comes to life. Thus, a man is created out of the dust, out of still matter, becomes a corrected man into which we have poured life. We celebrate this wonderful opportunity we were given during Rosh HaShana.

A Taste That Cannot Be Compared To Anything In This World

laitman_572_03Question: What special Light should we feel during the holidays? Why have I been celebrating the holidays for twenty years, dipping apples in honey, fasting on Yom Kippur, but, at the same time, have never felt any Light?

Answer: We must correct ourselves into people who can discover the Light so that we will be able to feel it during the holidays and throughout our lives. We are in an ocean of love, but we need a vessel in order to feel it.

Each of us has only a shard of this vessel, so we need to collect these shards and put them together. When we adhere to one another, we will begin to feel the inner filling in our common vessel. If several people want to discover the Light, we can connect and unite, and then feel the Light in our unity.

Question: What is the feeling when the Light is revealed?

Answer: It is impossible to describe it just as it is impossible to describe the flavor of some exotic food that I tasted when I travelled in Latin America. If we speak about ordinary flavors, we can describe them somehow because we compare them to other flavors that are familiar to us.

But the Upper Light is unlike anything else in our world. We can say only that it is a pleasure that totally fills a person to such an extent that he loses the ability to speak. It is such a complete filling that a person doesn’t even want to move, to say anything, or to think about anything, just to totally enjoy this harmony. I wish everyone to become able to attain this.

Traditions And Meanings Of The Rosh HaShanah Meal

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What does the food we eat on Rosh HaShanah symbolize?

Answer: On Rosh HaShanah, it is a Mitzvah (commandment) for us to eat the head of a fish to emphasize our desire to be the head and not the tail. This means that we want to find an understanding for the entire structure of creation, the entire spiritual project, and not just to understand and recognize our actions, goals, or our role in penetrating into the entire wisdom of creation, but also to find the power and courage to realize them within ourselves.

The pomegranate symbolizes the correction of the 613 egoistic desires in every person for rapprochement, unity, and love. The seeds of the pomegranate create one collective, common fruit. Each one of us is a small seed, and we need to unite, which represents the completion of our common collective spiritual work, a fruit in which all components are connected in the right way.

The apple is that part we took from the sin that happened with the Tree of Knowledge. We dip it in honey to sweeten whatever is waiting for us as we continue forward, so that the instructions and help that we receive from above will be correct and precise. The correction of the sin of the Tree of Knowledge is called mollification. If a person places before himself the same goal that exists in nature and finds harmony within it, there can no longer be anything in life that is bad for him. He will constantly feel mutual, harmonious help from nature that surrounds him.

If we think about unity and connection between us, we can balance the climate on Earth and do everything that we want, such as preventing all suffering and war. But before we teach humanity to connect and unite, we need to learn this ourselves. Studying the wisdom of Kabbalah will explain to everyone how this is done, andI hope that we attain this unity.

All these customs are simply external in character. But in fact, this is a huge, major holiday from which the right attitude towards life truly begins because a person now begins to restore himself.

Adam Was The First To Break The Ceiling Of This World

Those Who Skip Over The Section Of Time

Dr. Michael LaitmanBaal HaSulam, “A Speech for the Completion of The Zohar”: An exception is Rashbi and his generation, the authors of The Zohar, who were granted all 125 degrees in completeness, even though it was prior to the days of the Messiah.

Hence, we often find in The Zohar that there will be none like the generation of Rashbi until the generation of the Messiah King. This is why his composition made such a great impact in the world, since the secrets of the Torah in it occupy the level of all 125 degrees.

Hence, it is said in The Zohar that The Book of Zohar will be revealed only at the end of days, the days of the Messiah.

And since The Zohar appeared in our generation, it is a clear proof that we are already in the days of the Messiah, at the outset of that generation upon which it was said, “for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord.”

In the past we studied very little from The Book of Zohar. A person’s individual path of his spiritual development, that of the group, and the general path of the development of the world are connected to one another, because the individual and the general are equal. We couldn’t rush ahead and start studying The Book of Zohar until now because we were unable to hear it, so for many years we hardly touched The Book of Zohar in our study.

A special time had to come and our inner impulse had to ripen. About four years ago I suddenly felt that we have to do something with The Book because it is impossible to study from an authentic source in our times. There was a need to simplify The Book of Zohar so that an ordinary person would be able to understand it, and so we had to remove the many obstacles one encounters when studying this Book and also to translate it to other languages.

I felt a great elation in doing this work. I gradually went over all the writings of The Book of Zohar, day by day, volume after volume, and I greatly enjoyed it, feeling that I was drinking from the spring of life. Many other people took part in this project. We can actually say that it wasn’t work but a gift from above. Now we are glad to bring the outcome of our work to the whole world: the first complete edition in Hebrew and abridged editions in Russian and English. The Book of Zohar will gradually be published in other languages so that everyone will have a chance to study it with us.

No other book has ever been written by a group of Kabbalists as a result of ten connecting. Moreover, there has never been another book that was written in such a special time when people were both on the spiritual level that was before the destruction of the Temple and after the destruction. This means that they were exactly in the center of the shattering, between the two parts of the shattering, and managed to connect the shattering, to skip over it, and to connect its two parts.

There have never been Kabbalists who managed to attain all the 125 levels, which means to attain complete connection with the Creator. This is actually the reason that The Book of Zohar is on such a high level and belongs to the end of correction. It wasn’t written by one Kabbalist, but is the product of the connection between people who attained the Creator. This is very important. So when we study this book, it takes us back to that connection, to the correction.

All the other Kabbalistic books were written by people who attained spirituality but not as a result of the connection between people in a group. This is the reason that we wanted to make this book as close to everyone as possible. If a person reads it, the Light that comes through the high souls that connected begins to operate on him.

This Light operates among us and raises our sensitivity to connection. It operates whether we want it or not. Therefore , it was so important to simplify The Book of Zohar and translate it into different languages. This book includes everything we need for our correction!

A Kabbalist Is Not An Ordinary Scientist

laitman_214Question: Who is a Kabbalist? What does he see that we don’t see? What does he feel that we don’t feel? Does he have supernatural powers? How does a person become a Kabbalist? Will you reveal to us all the secrets of the wisdom of Kabbalah?

Answer: A Kabbalist is a scientist, only not an ordinary scientist. He explores the world and wants to reach the root of everything that is happening, to discover and know why everything is arranged in such a form, from where this appears and where everything is going.

This is a person who has an inner need to reach the world in which he lives and discover what this world expects of him. This is a person who is born with a question that burns within him and doesn’t let him rest: What were we given this life for? What is its meaning? Why was I born? Today this question bothers many people, but in the past it was the inheritance of selected people.

The first Kabbalist was Adam HaRishon (The First Man), a person who lived 5,775 years ago. Adam discovered the secret of life and wrote a book about this. Certainly people lived long before him, but Adam is considered the first man because he discovered the inner essence of nature and the hidden power that stands behind all the external and individual forces that appear before us.

We live in a reality in which part of it is clearly revealed, whereas the other part is hidden. Each time we disclose some other part of reality, and so we advance. But there is a reality that always remains hidden from our discernment if we don’t change ourselves.

The hidden reality is imperceptible to our senses; we are limited by the five senses: sight, hearing, taste, smell, and touch, but reality is much more extensive than them. We know nothing about anything that doesn’t enter into the range of our senses.

We are only ready to expand their range a bit: increasing vision through microscopes and telescopes, hearing through radar and range finders; we invent all kinds of sensory instruments. But in principle, these are only small additions to our natural senses so that the eyes will see a greater distance and the ears will hear better.

In principle, we cannot even guess what senses we still lack. The world is much more rich and diverse, but we don’t know a thing about it. There are other, higher dimensions, more expansive than the usual mundane reality, and they could be revealed to us, but we are not ready to discover them.

The development of science brings a person to a line; he feels that there must be something else beyond the limits of our world. But where is its door, the way through which it would be possible to go out of our nature and enter into whatever dimensions we are unaware and don’t feel now?

Suppose that all people were blind, then we would get along in this world without sight, even without suspecting that we are missing something. In the same manner, we don’t suspect that we are missing a very important sense, the feeling of the general Higher Power that organizes everything and manages everything.

We don’t feel this power and our connection with it; it is concealed from us as if it didn’t exist at all. But in fact, we simply lack the development that will make it possible for us to discover and attain it.

If I Were A Rothschild

Dr. Michael LaitmanOpinion (Rothschild Wealth Management):  “Economic prosperity and consumption are the measure for realizing my ‘self’. The GDP (Gross Domestic Product) per capita measures the state of society, and it seems that we have created a religion of consumption which we have nourished through a system of credit.

“The financial crisis in the year 2008 halted economic growth: 50% unemployment among the youth in Europe, the impending pension crisis and other difficult problems all paint a bleak future for Europeans and Americans. This is the end of the consumer economy.

“Western youth have entered a cooperative economy, an economy of common consumption, commerce of barter, recycling. Its foundation is joint interaction, human relationships.

“When Western man was compelled to enter into connection with others while exchanging goods or services, from the connection with strangers itself, he began to feel benefit. From well-established relationships there is economic benefit, which is to say, measurable benefit.

“I am not trying to promote the collective economy, but it is useful as an allocation of new economic resources and social interaction among people which didn’t exist in the world before the crisis. This is more than a theory of group work, than all kinds of economic dividends from correct relationships between people within the framework of the existing economic system. This is speaking of social interaction (mutual influence) as a goal, as fulfillment of the person, as an independently standing product having independent economic benefit.

“If previously the self-realization of the person and the popular consumer culture were synonymous, today there is an element of social interaction which is a new component whose weight in the realization of Western man is great. The Western economy, where consumption by the middle class has been its central flywheel, is encountering changes in the orders of preference of the new generation for the first time. In that they have learned to consume less through replacing the benefit of consumption with the benefit of relationships between people, the younger generation today is making the first step towards changing the economic paradigm.”

My comment:  The thoughts are correct because the right conclusions about what is happening are being made. But Lord Rothschild doesn’t see that beyond the changes of the economic paradigm of society, there is a transition from an economic component to a social component.

Long-range perspectives are more understandable only to someone who learns the wisdom of Kabbalah, the program of correction from the egoistic paradigm of society to an altruistic paradigm. Its realization is possible only through the creation of new connections between people under the guidance of Kabbalists. Lord Rothschild would have to agree with this.

The Wisdom Of Kabbalah And Evil – Two Things That Don’t Go Along

laitman_627_1Question: Is anyone who feels love and goodness towards others a Kabbalist?

Answer: If it is true love and bestowal towards others, it means that he is a Kabbalist. The problem is if we are mistaken and only seemingly love and bestow unto one another. There is no love in our world.

Comment: Many people believe that they are good and loving.

Answer: This is a mistake. A Kabbalist develops a special attribute of true love and bestowal, which is not the disguised receiving that is only a more developed and sophisticated ego.

The attribute of love and bestowal is built above the ego, above our nature. Then we can actually feel what is external to us, which is only one force called the Creator. The revelation of His love and bestowal unto us is called the upper world. A Kabbalist is someone who fulfills the principle of “love thy friend as thyself,” which allows him to feel the upper world.

Question: What is the upper world?

Answer: The upper world is the sum of forces, influences, and actions of the upper force upon us. A Kabbalist sees forces that other people cannot see. He begins to cooperate with the upper force, with all the individual components of this one force that stems from the Creator. Thus we begin to respond to His call, to act in response to it, and become the Creator’s partners.

A Kabbalist cooperates with the upper force and thus changes reality. By constantly changing himself, he can make the world and people’s lives better.

Question: Can a Kabbalist use his superpowers to cause people harm?

Answer: This is impossible; after all, to begin with, it is the force of love and bestowal that he acquires.

Comment: But we often hear on the news that a person who engaged in the Torah was also involved in prohibited acts.

Answer: A Kabbalist cannot cause anyone harm. The wisdom of Kabbalah changes a person’s nature into an altruistic one. First and foremost he restricts his ego.

The Torah contains the Light that Reforms that can turn our egoistic inclination into the good inclination. A Kabbalist uses the Upper Light and corrects his nature from evil to good. This is the first sign. If a person causes others harm, he is not a Kabbalist.

The Sixth Sense

laitman_276_01Question: Is there any connection between Kabbalah and religion? Is Kabbalah a religion?

Answer: Kabbalah is not a religion; it is a science. Kabbalah is about the part of reality that is hidden from us but with which we have an opportunity to work, like in science. Therefore, Kabbalah is called a science.

Through special actions that we perform on ourselves, we can reveal our senses for perceiving a higher level. We have five corporeal senses—vision, hearing, taste, smell, and touch—through which we perceive this world, but in a very limited form. Yet we perceive it to some extent and live accordingly.

We cannot even imagine that in this world around us there are so many other phenomena because our senses do not reveal them in a manner similar to that we cannot see what happens far away without binoculars, or without a radar we don’t see what exists in the air except the sound waves that are in our voice diapason, and so on.

We have so many instruments that we created in order to broaden the range of our senses. But they can only expand them while the science of Kabbalah creates an additional sense, “the sixth sense,” through which we can reveal the rest of reality, which is hidden from us. Then we know what we live for and how to live correctly. This is precisely what a person needs to attain.

Question: What kind of additional sense is it?

Answer: This sense works like our corporeal senses, only our five senses act in the form of receiving, consuming, attracting within all the data that is outside. And this additional sense, which we develop through Kabbalah, operates according to the desire to give, bestow, and love.

We come outside of and rise above ourselves, and thus we are not limited by our body with its five senses. Our spiritual sense exists outside of our corporeal body. It is like we deploy this sense onto all of reality. Then we can perceive everything. In fact, this sense is the soul.

What Does The Wisdom Of Kabbalah Give Us?

laitman_222_0Baal HaSulam writes in the article, “The Essence of the Wisdom of Kabbalah,” that the wisdom of Kabbalah is the revelation of the Creator to the creature in this world.

This means that every person who exists in our world can discover the Creator, i.e., the higher force that encompasses everything, manages everything, holds everything, is responsible for all activity of every atom, molecule, still, vegetative, and animate nature, and humans, surrounds everything, and fills everything, and there is none else besides Him.

This is the one and only higher force, and we can discover it with the help of a method called the wisdom of Kabbalah.

Throughout all of history, there were many people who discovered this force. They are called Kabbalists from the word “Kabbalah” (Reception) since they work on this discovery and receive this revelation.

To the degree that they discover the higher force, what is happening will become clear to them: why we are alive, for what do we live, how do we move correctly in this life, what must a person achieve as a result of his life, with what is he connected every day, what guides him, how must he respond correctly to the world that surrounds him at every moment of his life, how something is changed in him and in the world, why these changes happen in the world, and where all of this is leading.

A person begins to feel that he exists in a unique universe filled with forces and achieves the purpose of creation. This fills his life. He knows why he is alive, what he got up in the morning for, and with what is his day filled.

He isn’t advancing toward the end of life, but discovers the higher force more and more every day until he begins to feel it as the force that animates and guides him. He achieves this intellectually and emotionally.

Every person in our world can achieve this, as it is written, “…for they shall all know Me from their smallest to their greatest…” (Jeremiah 31:33), and “…for My house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples” (Isaiah 56:7). But first the people of Israel must achieve this and after that the entire world.

There was a time that Abraham wanted to bring all the Babylonians to this method, to truly carry out a spiritual revolution, but only a small number of the inhabitants of ancient Babylon joined him. He brought them to the land of Canaan and built the people of Israel from them. However, from the start, he wanted to bring all people to this spiritual level, so the wisdom of Kabbalah was intended equally for all.
