It is impossible for a man to raise himself and break out of his circle. It is like trying to lift myself by my own hair, and it is clear that I cannot do it.

Therefore, a person must get sustenance from one’s environment, that is, gain strength, the correct intention, and loftiness and greatness of the goal from the environment. If a person receives all this from the environment, then he will be able to raise himself above himself, above his egoism.

And we have many environments we get sustenance from: home, work, former acquaintances, and friends. But the most important thing is to put my group above all of them because as far as it will determine in me the highest properties and preferences of development, so I will be able to develop and not otherwise.

A person should check himself about how he can rise above the rest of the world, above all its potentials and attractions, so that the group can give him the utmost greatness, strongest feeling of the goal, which is that there is nothing higher than attaining the Creator and no possibility, no other means, of reaching the Creator except through the group.

Each of us already knows for sure that there is a little egoist inside him. And as we advance, we will reveal an even bigger egoist in us. It will grow and grow in us, as it is written: “Anyone who is greater than his friend, his inclination is greater than him.”

Therefore, we must constantly take care that the environment, the group, that shows us the path to spirituality, to higher development, from everyone in our surroundings, always prevails over all our other groups and values.

Therefore, if a person chooses a good environment for himself, then he gains time and effort. But the environment itself cannot be good or bad, it is the way we make it. We cannot change ourselves, but we can affect the environment we find ourselves in.

The Creator brings us into a group, puts our hand on good fortune and says: “Take it, I give you this opportunity!” And now it depends on a person how to realize this opportunity the Creator has given him. It is only to strengthen oneself in this environment. And strengthening depends only on how much we will raise the group in our eyes, move away from all our natural calculations, prerequisites, and engage in raising the right environment that will show us our goal and within which we can achieve this goal.

Therefore, if a person chooses a good environment for himself, then he gains both in time and effort. That is, each of us can very quickly achieve the goal. We determine the time, the amount of effort, and shortness of the path by raising the environment above ourselves. And then, by adhering to this environment, we fly straight forward to the goal of creation, to the full revelation of the Creator in us.

Without our unity, we cannot attain and reveal the Creator. After all, the Creator is revealed as the central point of our unity that everything came from and everything must return to.

The greatness of the friends is first in the fact that the Creator chose them. That is, they are the ones chosen by the Creator.

Second, I see how much they are aiming for the same goal. That is, the Creator placed in them a desire that I value and it is precious to me.

Third, friends can help me, and I cannot achieve my goal without them. Without them, I am absolutely nobody and nothing. Everything I can receive for attaining the Creator comes only from them.

Therefore, by receiving from them all kinds of qualities, intentions, and yearnings, I can come to the Creator. I myself have nothing with which I can come to the Creator. I am completely disconnected from the Creator with my qualities and thoughts.

The group is a connector that connects me to the Creator. Without a group, I cannot adhere to the Creator. It is for me like the placenta is for a fetus, a place for a fetus in the uterus. The fetus cannot attach to the uterus itself. It must first attach to the placenta and then to the uterus through it. The uterus is a female organ, and the placenta connects the fetus to the uterus.

The Creator is the spiritual womb and the entire upper organism, and the placenta, which connects the growing soul with the Creator, is the group. Therefore, if I do not attach myself to the group, to the friends, and do not connect with them into one common whole, then I have no connection with the Creator and no opportunity to reach it in the future.

Therefore, there is only one solution: always forward and not a step back.

The proof of my inclusion in the environment is that I care about this environment more than about myself. And I see myself only as a result, as a product, of this environment.

A person begins to feel that he himself does not exist but only the environment of which he is a consequence. That is, he has nothing of his own but only what he receives from the environment. The environment shapes him and constantly gives birth to him.

And this is where the real freedom of man manifests. He broke away from himself, from his egoism, and completely united with the environment, which from that moment onward completely defines him. Rabash, “Purpose of Society 1”: And to achieve bestowal upon the Creator, we must begin with bestowal upon man, which is called “love of others.”

Why is this needed? We cannot talk about our feelings if we do not perceive something in them. If I have to approach something, then from the object I am approaching I must receive some kind of feedback, some opposite property, feeling, and repercussion.

Therefore, everything is built on learning to perceive a neighbor, another, everyone, not as an inanimate, vegetative, or animate being but exactly as we are. And from the similarity of our relations with each other, we can learn to tune ourselves to the relationship with the Creator.

Egoism will help us in this. It will repulse us and show how much we are not in connection with each other and not ready to unite with the Creator. This is what we will feel in the separation between us. That is, the connection between us is the indicator that shows me how far away I am from the Creator.

This is a wonderful divine idea when a person feels that he is in the world created for us so that we learn to feel and understand who we are and gradually rise from the state of feeling the inanimate, vegetative, and animate nature to the state of man And in these relationships, we must begin to feel that we are ready to reveal the Creator.

And this is why we gather here—to establish a society where each of us follows the spirit of bestowing upon the Creator (Rabash, “Purpose of Society—1”).

Our most important task and goal is bestowing to the Creator. And the Creator is perceived by us only as a common force, a property, a spirit that will fill the entire space between us. The Creator is called a place. This is the place between us.

The relation of a person to the Creator is the relation of a person to a place. Therefore the most important thing for us is to take care of the place between us, that is, about our relationships, about what can manifest between us.

And to achieve bestowal upon the Creator, we must begin with bestowal upon man, which is called “love of others. Why? Because there is no Creator as such. We create this quality from the relationships between us, and the quality of these relationships determines the Creator we create.

Just as it is said “You created Me” and “You create Me,” it is not the Creator who creates a person, but it is the person who, through his own efforts, having received the instruction, creates the Creator.

Just as in our world we build everything around us and equip ourselves, similarly we must adjust ourselves, connect with each other, and arrange connections between us so that the Creator is revealed in them.

Here we are already beginning to work together with the upper force, which is absolutely hidden and cannot manifest itself in any way but only to the extent of the similarity of qualities. Depending on the way we relate to Him, we can reveal Him. Therefore, our principal relationship to the Creator is called the quality of bestowal.

But since the Creator is hidden and is impossible for us to feel by touch how we can reveal Him, get closer to Him, and do all that gradually, step-by-step, we need to have something in our hands. For this, the Creator created a connection between us egoists, and from it we must understand our states, where we are, that is, to start treating the connection between each other as something fundamental, the basis from which we draw understanding about ourselves and about our world.

If we change our relationships, we will begin to feel how we are opening up this space more and more. And so we will build not some material, imaginary world, but a world that is a result of the connection between us. In these gradual, step-by-step approaches to each other, we will reveal the power of connection, the quality of connection, and its special manifestations, which are called the Creator.

Initially this force, these qualities, created us to be the opposite of ourselves at the most minimal level. And if we move further toward revealing this quality, we will feel ourselves to be in two opposite states: that we know nothing, understand nothing, don’t want to be in connection with one another, and are opposed to the connections between us; that is, we are opposite to the Creator; and at the same time, that we can get closer and connect together.

Love of others can only be through revoking of one’s self (Rabash, Article 1, Part 1, “Purpose of Society—1”)

Self-denial is the annihilation of oneself in relation to others. At the same time, a person does not just disappear, but is engaged precisely in the fact that everything that is in him—in feelings, in thoughts, in actions—he does only for the good of another. This is called love. You exist only for the sake of another.

On the one hand, each person should feel lowly, and on the other hand, be proud that the Creator has given us the chance to be in a society where each of us has but a single goal: for the Shechina [Divinity] to be among us.

That is, so that we return to the original state from which we were created when the Creator began to develop within Himself the desire to receive, the opposite of Himself, in order to create creations. And the creatures must be opposite to Him. And therefore, gradually within the Creator, within the upper light, a desire to receive was created, which then broke into many parts, sub-parts, sub-sub-sub-parts, and so on, along 125 degrees of descent from a single primordial desire, which we call Malchut of Ein Sof (the world of infinity) to our state and even below it.

All this happens by breaking a single desire into a multitude of desires, so that we can begin the return journey, our evolution, our development to begin to reveal the Creator from opposites.

Question: Why is it important to annul myself in order to come to love between us?

Answer: I think we can also understand this from what we feel in our world, in our relationships with each other. How can I love another if I love myself? It is impossible. The expression of love is only when you take the quality of the other, his desire, his life, as your own above yourself, and exist in order to do everything that he desires.

There is no other definition of “love” but integrating with the desires of the other in order to fulfill them. Everything else is an absolutely unrealistic expression: “I love you.” No! Give me a concrete, material definition.

Our world is built on desires. What should I do with my desire and with the desire of the other? What states should I create between us that will be called “love”? Only to direct all my qualities to fill and to satisfy the other, this is called that I love him.

This is a clear manifestation, an expression of my attitude toward him. This is why we are all created in the will to receive. If I put the will to receive of another person above my own in order to fulfill him, then it is called that “I love him.”

There is no other material, clear, pure definition, that can even be fixed over time, to measure to what extent we sacrifice ourselves for the sake of the other. There are levels in this self-sacrifice where then how much I do not just do something for the sake of the other, but rise above myself in spite of myself, and everything I would do for myself I do for him.

This attitude, when you place the other person above yourself, is called love. You can find other words: inclusion, conjugation, commutation, but the simplest one between people and in all languages is love.

Question: We have been talking for more than a year about “bestowal” and “to bestow upon n a person or the Creator.” Now it feels like we are at the starting point of the path. I would like all of us to understand this concept of bestowal in the same way; otherwise a discrepancy will begin, and the further we go the more it will grow.

What kind of bestowal are we talking about? What is it? In material terms, I can give each friend 100 rubles and everything will be fine, but what are we talking about?

Answer: We are talking about helping each of us. And help can only be in helping to reach the Creator.

And we can reach the Creator only when we are united together in the most assembled Kli (vessel), with as many parts together as possible, with the strongest possible connection between all parts. That’s what we have to do.

But one cannot do without the other in any way. We cannot reveal the Creator within ourselves. I can only reveal Him in a good connection between myself and a friend. When we relate to each other in some way similar to the Creator’s quality, then we reveal Him.

Therefore in order to reveal the Creator, someone else is needed besides me, a person with whom I will have such a mutual relationship that I will treat him as the Creator treats us. In principle, we have to do this.

Therefore our work is purely practical. Studying will in no way replace it for us. We should simply change our relationships and make them more similar to the qualities of the Creator. Then we will be called “man” (Adam), from the word “edome“—similar to the Creator.

The smallest group is the ten. The large group is all of humanity.

All my pleas must go through the ten. Only through my small group can I turn to the Creator and not otherwise. The group is my switchboard, my unit through which I connect to Him.

To the extent that I want to establish connection with my friends, I turn to the Creator. And I cannot address the Creator directly at all, the Creator will not hear me. If at least two friends do not unite in bestowing to each other, then they cannot connect to the Creator. This is the minimum condition.

And the optimal condition is all of humanity. The rational condition is the ten. When I annul myself in front of others, I enter the connection with the Creator.

We all are different and each has his own qualities and feelings, but if we do the same action of annulling ourselves, then we become closer, similar to each other. The Creator shines upon us and starts creating completely new forms of connection between us.

Then we begin to understand that it is not by chance that we are so diverse in this group. We are gathered in a group by the upper light that separated, shattered, and broke us, and now it begins to connect us. We feel how He gathers us.

The closer He brings us to each other, the more we resist. We feel how different we are, but He gathers us. This is where we should be His helpers in faith above reason and begin together with Him, with the upper light, to connect into one common, harmonious system called the soul.
