Question: In the primary sources it is written that the Creator Himself, the upper force, is waging war with the evil inclination, with evil forces. So, it is said that He is a warrior. How should I understand this? Whose side is the Creator on when there are two fighting sides and each prays from the heart for victory? Who is the Creator with?

Answer: The Creator is with no one. He is completely uninvolved in these problems, although He initiates them. The thing is that His task is to call humanity to understand its nature and do everything to correct it. Therefore, a person must recognize himself as an absolute egoist and, based on that, find the key to self-correction.

Question: Let’s say there is a war going on, and both sides are praying for victory. How does the Creator, the upper force of nature, react to these prayers? It is said that the Creator feels everyone’s prayer that come from the heart. I am sure that from both sides, the prayer comes from the heart because everyone wants to win.

How can you, as a Kabbalist, determine who the Creator is with?

Answer: The Creator is with those who are closer to Him according to the criteria of goodness, unification, and the desire to help close ones, distant, strangers, everyone, no matter who. That is, we must study the properties of the Creator and try to understand them, and then accept and incorporate them into our environment.

Question: But if both nations are united and go against each other and each believes that they are fighting for freedom, for their people, for their families, then who is the Creator with? Is it possible to judge by the results; whoever wins, that is who the Creator is with?

Answer: No, it cannot be said that way either. We should just study the properties of the Creator, His laws, and see how close we are to them or not. Based on this, we will understand who  the Creator is with and how He guides creation.

Question: How is the shattering of the single system of Adam HaRishon manifested in our world today?

Answer: It is manifested in the fact that all of nature is egoistic, built on so-called materialistic laws, and we live in it according to the same laws.

But the wisdom of Kabbalah is gradually being revealed and explains that there is a completely different nature that we do not see in our world, an altruistic one, based on properties of bestowal and good mutuality.

Question: It often happens that the higher the result, the more it does not promise anything good during the stages of growth.

The sourest fruit becomes the most delicious, and you already thought of cutting down the tree. The genius was failing at school; they wanted to kick him out of school, and he became Einstein.

The beautiful swan was once an ugly duckling. We know this story. The question is why is this so? Why is it necessary to be an ugly duckling first?

Answer: It is because such is the path of development of opposites that nothing can develop in a straight path but only as it is written, “through its opposite.” That is, there is a direct phenomenon, but its opposite consequences occur before it.

We need to respect a person in any of his states because they all do not mean anything. How many such examples have we had in history when completely useless, unnecessary children grew up to be geniuses and vice-versa.

Question: Then the question is how to recognize them?

Answer: There is no way! You cannot recognize it in any way. We just need to give everyone the opportunity to develop.

Question: Where can a person get the patience from? He sees that nothing will grow out of it. Nothing will grow out of this weed. Where does one get patience?

Answer: How does he know that nothing will grow out of it?

Comment: But you say yourself that we cannot know.

My Response: This is why he has to stop himself. Because nothing is created in vain, and every object in our world has its purpose. It is not up to you to decide what it should be now, and what it should be in the future. Therefore, just stop yourself.

Question: What if we give such an opportunity? Let’s say we restrain ourselves and let everything develop.

Answer: Give everyone the opportunity to develop correctly. Let him develop in him all the qualities that the Creator embedded in him, and you will see.

Question: Thus, it turns out that I am changing—the one who wants to destroy all this. Is this my ascent above my nature?

Answer: Absolutely right.

Question: Is this the most important thing by and large?

Answer: Yes.

Question: Now the question is, is our world today like an ugly duckling? A lot of people also have this state. The Internet is full of these phrases: “May it burn down! Yes, I wish that this world would not exist! Yes, we all need to start over!” And so on. What is this ugly duckling developing into?

Answer: To the fact that we recognize evil, our evil, what we have brought the world to, and give it the opportunity to develop correctly with our new attitude to it.

Question: Is that why we see this world so corrupted?

Answer: Yes.

Question: So are you saying that I am the one who is corrupted?

Answer: Of course.

Question: Does everyone have to come to this?

Answer: I do not know about everyone. But basically such a thought and such an attitude should be dominant.

Comment: But I see that they do not come to this. Quite the opposite.

My Response: They will come to this.

Comment: You are an optimist here saying that we will come to this.

My Response: The fact that we will come to this is definite. But the question is through what kind of blows.

I think we need to understand that the world is ready for the best state. We need to think about why we do not let it be like that.

The fact that we see it so sour and bad today is the result of our attitude toward the world.

Question: Why is it possible to come to absolute love and bestowal only after the shattering?

Answer: We would otherwise not feel how truly egoistic and broken the state we are in is. It is from our distancing from each other that we begin to realize how much we need to be connected.

This is all necessary for a conscious process, for freedom of choice. If we existed only in the light itself, we simply would not feel that light.

Question: How long should this take? Does nature have a deadline?

Answer: Nature has no time and no deadlines. But in principle, we are already quite close to realization.

As our great teacher Baal HaSulam writes, we are in a process called “the last generation.” It is quite possible that we will yet see the world shifting from receiving to giving, from hatred to love.

Question: There are abstract concepts of good and evil. In relation to what standard do we determine what is good and what is evil?

Answer: I believe that good is what leads people to unification, rapprochement, and mutual assistance, and evil is the opposite of it.

Comment: But we see that there are masses of people who unite and wage war against other segments of the population. That is, in relation to them, unification is good. Regarding others, it is evil.

My Response: You cannot define it that way. People must unite for the sake of common peace. This requires very serious preparation, serious training, and gradual introduction of this idea over many years into the general mass of humanity.

Good should be relative to the whole world and not relative to a certain part of people.

Question: The expression “clash of civilizations” is very common in the mass media. There are about ten civilizations in the world, but among them there are two main ones: Western and East Asian.

When you hear that there is conflict and different values between these two civilizations, what can you, as a Kabbalist, say about what is happening between them? What characterizes East and West?

Answer: At present there are no clearly defined civilizations. But if we talk about the East and the West, then Eastern civilizations are characterized by their commitment to religious problems, which they try to put into practice. And Western civilizations are more interested in the problems of their material existence. Therefore, the difference between them is quite large.

In Eastern civilization there are people who care very much whether their spiritual values are preserved, and they are ready to fight for this. Western civilization wants to preserve itself in the form in which it came to exist today. Therefore, it is very difficult for them to establish contact with each other.

Question: The great Kabbalist Baal HaSulam writes that there are two opposing forces in nature—negative and positive. They developed the entire material universe. If we talk about the human level, then these are the forces of good and the forces of evil. So, is war between these two forces the natural state of humanity?

Answer: Yes, this comes from the structure of their souls—Eastern and Western. It is unknown for how long this confrontation will continue. But so far, we see that it does not end.

Question: In one of the articles, Baal HaSulam writes that during a war there are states when governance is transferred to a destructive force, which then is manifested in the corporeal world.

Then this can no longer be corrected; you have to wait for time to pass. This happened during World War II, during the Holocaust.

What kind of destructive force is this?

Answer: This is the enormous force of the Creator, which He decides to use in educating people. Then bad conditions descend on humanity, and the Creator begins to deal with people according to the strict law.

Question: Baal HaSulam writes that when governance has already been transferred to this destructive force, even prayers do not help. Before this, you could correct something, pray, and somehow change the situation, but when the destructive force is manifested in matter, nothing helps. There are many such cases in history. Or is there still something that can be done?

Answer: Of course, there is. We still have to do something despite the circumstances. But we must not forget that there is a good time and an evil time.

Question: In Hebrew “army” is called “tzava” – “tze ve bo”, which means entry and exit from the power of the evil principle, i.e., our egoism.

When a person fights with it, he is either under the power of egoism, or comes out of it. Can we say that the most important thing is the work process itself, and the result of the war is not important? Or is winning still important?

Answer: The result is very important to us! But besides this, we need to understand why the war occurs, its reason, in what case it can stop, and so on. We must learn to work with this correctly.

Question: Does the result of war depend on the Creator or on people?

Answer: It is always from the Creator. The result depends on how much our plans and desires coincide with the Creator. And then there will be no defeat.

Question: For an external war, are the same principles true as in war with the evil inclination of man?

Answer: Yes. If a person wins a war with an evil inclination within himself, he can thereby win a war that has already manifested itself in the outside world.

Question: From the point of view of Kabbalah we see that at the corporeal level there is some harmony within the inanimate, vegetative, and animate nature; otherwise our world would not exist. At the same time at the human level wars never stop. Why is war our most natural state?

Answer: War is our natural state because the biggest egoism is in the human being within all of nature.

The confrontation between the two civilizations, the East and West, is a war of values. The values that exist in the Eastern part belong to their internal structure. While the values that exist in the Western part are more mercantile and materialistic.

Therefore, the difference between them is very big—psychological, mental. Based on this we cannot say that certain values hinder us while certain ones bring us closer together.

Question: Are internal wars with an evil inclination possible without external manifestations?

Answer: Theoretically wars fought only mentally by the desires of the heart are possible. But when we will get there, I do not know.

After all, we can come to this only after we are absolutely sure that with our own desires, we create a place for wars and all negative actions.

The Creator, as the highest governing force, manifesting itself in external war, influences humanity to realizes the futility of its attempts to correct the world.

Question: What does external war bring out in a person? Does it awaken questions about the meaning of life in him?

Answer: No, we practically do not see this. For how many millennia have people been fighting each other and still this does not help them understand the meaning of life. Suffering does not raise these questions.

I think that they can only be caused by an educational process, by soft persuasion, when we sit opposite each other and correctly explain our point of view to everyone.
