The next degree of our development is “Adam” (Man). It lies in the fact that we begin to understand nature and behave in accordance with it. It is not nature that pushes and leads us, pulling all the strings, but we ourselves learn from it and arrange ourselves in accordance with it, each one of us and all of us together in a new society.

For this we need to learn and acquire a different nature. How will people realize this need and overcome their inertia and self-confidence? How will they get out of them? By what blows? Will it take a lot of blood or a little?

Look what is happening in the world! We suddenly find ourselves in a completely new world; it changes so quickly. All this is in order to lead us to the next state.

The inanimate, vegetative, and animate levels are automatically involved through a single law of nature; they exist in harmony, although we do not see this harmony with our egoistic feelings.

A person, however, is egoistic, contrary to nature, and must bring himself into conformity with it. We need to get into contact with each other in order to create a system within ourselves that would come into contact with the general force of nature. Then the inanimate, vegetative, and animate levels of nature will also connect to the degree of “Man.” This is where development ends.

This is what we must come to. Now we are on a very seriously advancing segment of the path. It’s an interesting time!

Question: The year 2022 seems to be a year with the call to countries to take up arms.

The French president opened the door to increased military spending by re-evaluating the military planning law and his aim to put the country on a war-economy. Turkey’s President Erdogan and Greece are disputing Greece’s arming some Aegean islands. Germany approved 100 Billion Euro revamp of its army. Poland is rearming actively and quickly. Japan doubled its military budget. And I’m not even talking about South Korea, North Korea.

All the time you say: “Unite!” The world says: “We will arm ourselves!” Where are we going?

Answer: I believe that we are moving toward a normal world. The world is beginning to realize that it must look at itself soberly. Meaning to arm, defend, and soberly treat those who bully. And then there will be peace in the world.

I believe that everyone should be responsible for their own security, and everyone together should be responsible for the common security.

Question: What about all the calls for peace, then?

Answer: And then there will be calls for peace. Then they will actually work. How else? Our whole world is built on egoism; therefore, as long as there is no umbrella over egoism—in Kabbalah it is called a screen—nothing will happen.

Question: But this way we will get to the point where it will continue, modernize?

Answer: No, it will not continue. In fact, the aggressors are permanent. And they see what is against them, that they will not be allowed to play out, and therefore, they will shrink.

Question: Let’s say everyone sees that it is not worth bullying. And then what?

Answer: Then it will still be necessary to move toward the realization that the world should bring itself to life not from the threat of mutual destruction or such but from the fact that it needs to realize the movement toward peace, toward balance, tranquility.

Question: How does it realize this if it feels that the enemy is in front of it all the time and is rearming?

Answer: The enemy will also see that there is such a thing in front of him that is not reacting.

Question: When will we get to the point where they will say: “Stop! We have scared each other enough, now we need to slowly negotiate and turn around”?

Answer: Everyone will understand that the future of the world is in cooperation.

Question: After they become equal in strength?

Answer: No! Not equal in strength. The state of the people must change internally. They have to go through this transformation. And then they will stop scaring others and stop thinking they are exceptional.

Question: The moment will come when they will begin to disarm little by little?

Answer: Of course! It will not make sense. Thus, the world will come to the need for cooperation. And then there will really be unity.

Michael Laitman, On Quora: “Why does crisis bring people closer?“

I recently received a letter from a lady who explained that she and her husband had to move into their basement after their house got destroyed, and they felt liberated as a result. In her words, she wrote that “caring for others supplanted all thoughts of self,” and she continued to ask about how that happens, requesting an explanation.

Indeed, we host an inner quality where we try to escape from suffering, fear, hatred and other negative states due to our desire to feel good. As a result, we suddenly find ourselves caring about others, and we then realize that it feels right to come together.

Such states of crisis make us lose the feeling of corporeal fulfillment that we usually seek in money, honor, control and knowledge, and all we have left is spiritual fulfillment, where we fulfill ourselves by helping others, and feel like we need nothing else in our lives. It is a spiritual state that emerges out of suffering.

However, the state where crisis and suffering brings people closer together—that we then feel fulfillment in caring about others in order to run away from our problems—is only an elementary spiritual state. Later, we will care about others simply because we receive such an opportunity and feel it as our mission to do so: that we feel a strong drive to communicate the need to increase mutual care throughout the world, and that caring about each other and coming closer together also vitalizes us with new elevated harmonious, joyous and peaceful sensations. In other words, we can learn from times of crisis that caring about others and coming closer together has a special fulfillment that we previously failed to realize, but if we were to voluntarily advance ourselves to come closer together and increase mutual care in society, then we would alleviate the need for crises to bring us to such a realization. We would then progress to greater states of fulfillment, peace and harmony by attracting nature’s positive forces into our lives.

Comment: There is an outbreak of violence in Israel’s hospitals.The statistics relating to doctors, nurses, and guards being beaten in hospitals are incredible. Examples include the doctor being hit on the head with an iron stick because a patient was asked to leave an office, or for rearranging queues for tests or for not being served the right way, etc.

And I’m not talking about insults, as there are a lot of them as well. 48% of hospital employees are insulted at least three times a month and 17% are physically abused. The government’s response is to strengthen police protection in hospitals.

My Response: I don’t think it will help. Firstly, it is necessary to work with the population. And secondly, we still need to make sure that thousands and thousands of people do not generally end up in the hospital and clinics. They should receive some kind of care prior to clinics and especially prior to the hospital, meaning, help at home.

Question: Tell me please, has this surge of violence that is happening now happened before? What is it in us that triggers it?

Answer: People are nervous. They are waiting, maybe for help and they can’t stand queues and so on.

Question: Is it correct to say that you would essentially turn almost all of it back to the ministers?

Answer: Doctors are not to blame here and neither are the patients. The wrong organization of labor is to blame. Whoever is doing this, let them figure it out.

Question: Do you think the police will be able to cope with this?

Answer: No! Some grandfather came, screamed, hit the doctor on the head with his stick. What can you do? He can’t take it anymore. It doesn’t matter that he’s wrong, it is simply a fact.

It is important to sort everything out to serve a person before that so that he does not reach a nervous breakdown.

Question: Looking at modern bloggers, you see how they earn millions of likes, millions of views. Quite a lot of people watch them. There is a constant criticism with piercing hatred and lowering of others. And the more you do it, whether you belong to the right or the left, it does not matter, the more people listen and hear you.

And those who say: “Let’s live peacefully, let’s build good connections and love each other” are not heard.

Tell me, where are we heading today?

Answer: These are such times.

Before, times were not so ideologically clear. One did not have to choose to be this or that. Everything was more common.

Comment: Yes, it was possible to talk about peace and friendship. No one was chasing views or likes back then.

My Response: Because there was no money behind it. They are not chasing those today either; they are chasing money. Either money or fame. One of those must be behind it.

Question: If this is how we develop and keep advancing, what kind of humanity will we come to?

Answer: No, this is all going to change. This is a transitional period. Besides, there are such wars going on now and these wars will continue to develop.

Humanity needs a clear, defined goal. There is no such goal today. Therefore, there is nothing to call upon, nothing to pursue, to strive for, etc.

So, the problem of humanity is that it has lost its absolute reference points. Before, at least there was communism, capitalism, fascism, and so on. There were people involved, speakers, ideologists.

But today? There is practically nothing. This is why humanity is in such a phase that it is not pulled anywhere or moved by anything. Everything is rather vague.

Question: What will this vagueness lead to?

Answer: Egoism is constantly growing. So, we need to wait for it to demand new goals, new states from us. Our focus has to be on: “Where are we headed? Why?” None of this is here today. It should be defined.

Comment: But egoism will require real, significant pleasures.

Answer: Egoism will require to be filled.

Question: What will fill it? What do you think will fill it in the future? It is clear what kind of fillings we had in the past.

Answer: Today we are also talking about fulfilling egoism: either conquering, or doing something to another, some nasty trick, etc. Or to harshly criticize—this also fulfills the egoism of both you and the viewer. These are all fillings.

But these fillings will be increasingly acute, explicit, egoistic, antagonistic: it is good for me, bad for you, and so on. Today, all this is getting relatively smoothed out somehow as we are in an intermediate phase of development.

Question: Will this flow of criticism and hatred lead to hearing those who talk about good connections and love?

Answer: I am afraid that it will not come to good connections, love, or conversations about it. People will start devouring each other. There will be such an egoistic explosion.

Question: And will this lead to some kind of a change?

Answer: I do not believe one will instantly lead to the other.

Comment: You used to be more optimistic.

Answer: Yes. Today, it is spreading more and more. So I do not think we are in a state where there will be sudden changes in society or people.

Question: So you do not have an optimistic forecast?

Answer: No.

Comment: No? This is not a good ending.

My Response: This is a realistic conclusion. It is realistic. I do not think the world is about to embrace the recognition of evil.

This is what we must come to. And then bounce back from it to good. It is not there yet. To do so, society must accumulate vast experience and understanding of what is happening today. This has not happened yet.

The world does not understand that it needs to get rid of egoism, of this petty, bourgeois fuss: who buys cheaper, better, more, etc. Just look what countries or people are busy with? After all, they must change their values to more exalted ones. But it is not what we are coming to.

Question: What values characterize the next step of humanity?

Answer: The answer to the question: “What do I live for?” The fact that I exist is clear; the fact that I need to exist, I understand. But what for? This question does not live in people yet, it does not manifest itself.

Comment: So, you say that at least this question is a question of overturning…

Answer: Oh, if such a question were formed, humanity would have already been wailing: “What do we live for?”

In the News (UN News): “A staggering 100 million people have now been forced to flee their homes globally, the UN refugee agency, UNHCR, said on Thursday, highlighting worldwide food insecurity, the climate crisis, war in Ukraine and other emergencies from Africa to Afghanistan as leading causes.

“Every year of the last decade, the numbers have climbed,” said UNHCR chief Filippo Grandi. “Either the international community comes together to take action to address this human tragedy, resolve conflicts and find lasting solutions, or this terrible trend will continue.”

My Response: But it will be constantly renewed.

Question: The UN has the same conclusions: change the situation, establish peace and stability. The same words, and the number grows and grows. To what extent can it grow?

Answer: It is unlimited until all the people on Earth run in different directions. But where to? How to escape?

Question: So it will be bad for a person at his place of birth even if he is provided with everything?

Answer: In any state, for any person, it will be unbearable! Unbearable! And they won’t know where to run. They will simply run in panic in all directions; it won’t be known where and it won’t be known why. It will only be clear that you won’t be able to stay in the state that you are in.

Question: All of my conditions will be bad? What about the homeland? This is my language, I want to continue living here. Will it all disappear? Will a person not have it anymore?

Answer: It will disappear.

Question: And what will move us from our homes? Are you saying that even if there is no war and there are no events that move you, you will still move?

Answer: You will run, not knowing to where. “We live without feeling the earth underneath us.”

Question: And why? I understand that people are running away from bad. You say everyone will start migrating, everyone will start moving. Why?

Answer: It will be bad for everyone. That’s the feeling. From the depths of the Earth, from the depths of this ball, from inside, there will be some kind of hum, vibrations like: “Oooooooo!”—and everyone will tremble in unison and take off from their seats and will not know where to go.

Question: You say: “Everyone.” Will a Brownian-like motion begin?

Answer: Absolutely everyone.

Question: Will we start running around the globe? What are we all going to look for? A good life?

Answer: We are looking, in general, for calmness. Because the upper force exists in absolute calm. We strive for it unconsciously, but we cannot achieve it.

Question: What do you call calmness? For example, Finland is the happiest country, or Switzerland.

Answer: I think it won’t be for long.

Question: Even they will move?

Answer: Sure. But for them it will happen much slower.

Question: What is the calmness of the upper force that we want to match?

Answer: Calmness is movement in unison with the upper force. And then you’re at peace.

Question: What is it? Where is it moving to?

Answer: It doesn’t matter to where, the main thing is that you are with it.

It is always moving toward greater connection, interconnection, bestowal, love, merging, and so on. If you move with it in the same direction, it’s already good. And if you’re also trying to merge with it, to catch up with it, and stick to it like a baby to his mother, then you definitely feel good. We need this.

This is the final degree of humanity; there is no higher one. And nothing more is needed! That’s how the baby sticks to the mother; that’s it, he doesn’t want anything else. This is the safest, the calmest, the best condition. That’s it! This is what we will strive for.

But before that, we will have to be shaken thoroughly on the globe and look for how we can come to some inner peace after all. Because the rumble that will come from it from the inside will vibrate in us and we will not know where to escape from it! It’s a very scary feeling.

This rumble is a call of the upper force, and we will have to give in to this vibration. It will pass through us. It will force us to be in this vibration, to search for its source, its causes, and its purpose. And we will see that we have to follow it.

Comment: There is a touching love story told of two twenty-two-year-olds; we even know their names: Jess Peak and Joe Matthews. It began 20 years ago in a nursery school and continued through kindergarten. At the age of four, Matthews proposed to Peak and they had a make-believe wedding. After kindergarten, these two British kids went to different schools and lost contact.

And now suddenly, after 14 years, they met on a social network and realized they had been waiting for this meeting all their lives. They are just as happy together as they were back in kindergarten and nursery school. They are happily planning a wedding today. That’s what the buzz is all about on social media. “This is indeed love!”

My Response: What kind of love is this? They haven’t been together.

Comment: They didn’t see each other, but they kept this longing for each other.

My Response: Well, this is true. Things that happen in childhood leave great impressions.

Question: Now they are getting married. They say that most likely this wedding, this connection, will be a guarantee that they will have a long and happy life. What do you think about this conclusion?

Answer: There is a book that begins with the words: “Rarely do we marry our first love.”

Question: Let’s say we rarely marry our first loves. But if we do, is that a guarantee?

Answer: No. Usually we go through many, many mistakes, trials, meetings, divorces, and separations. And then, at an age closer to the end rather than the beginning, we meet someone and start appreciating [this connection].

Of course, she is not the same little girl with bows anymore and you are not the same boy. Their ideas of connection, closeness, and relationships are totally different now. This is how it usually works.

Question: Do you think that until they go through hard times in their ups and downs together, we cannot say anything?

Answer: No! Only out of destruction can one learn. That explains why a person who has never gone through ups and downs is not able to appreciate things. He will not cherish a relationship.

Question: So, you’re saying that you’re in favor of a sense of destruction in a connection between people? As if everything falls apart?

Answer: Of course. It is crucial they experience such feelings also so they would protect their relationship and not let it get to this.

Question: But it will keep hanging over them, right?

Answer: By all means! They are two egotists! How can they cut selfishness out of themselves and become so sweet? It’s impossible. We meet, learn our lessons, come to desperation, and understand how to build a life where we strive only for good relationships. We no longer need to be in bad relationships as we used to in our youth, then in good ones, and so on; we need only good ones.

Question: But do ups and downs we go through at a young age lead us to this?

Answer: Of course! Without them, there is nothing. You must accumulate an arsenal of various negative sensations and states, and only then can you avoid them.

Comment: That’s interesting. You store weapons, fight, and then suddenly cast them aside.

My Response: This is how it will work for humanity.

Comment: Meaning, humankind is now accumulating various weapons, and then…

My Response: It will understand they need to be cast aside.

Question: Is that why now all wars and other troubles are happening? Is the accumulation of weapons also happening for this reason?

Answer: Everything is only for this reason. There can be no good without the recognition of evil. Not in private life nor in the general world.

Question: What advice would you give if these young people listened to you?

Answer: I don’t know if they have accumulated enough suffering and expectations or a desire to appreciate the other, to show every minute you love them, to care for them, to like them the way they are, and so on. In other words, they need to have qualities, impressions from life, which simply do not exist at a young age.

The accumulation of these impressions must take place during their lifetime. If there were such an injection to gain an instant understanding, to see things for what they are, we’d live happily. Instead, we get divorced, sometimes more than once. And only afterward, possibly, can we create the right relationships.

Comment: What is your advice to young guys and gals who enter a life together with the feeling everything will be just fine and they will live together forever!

My Response: They need to have very, very long, nagging conversations with each other. Spill out whatever each of them thinks, like two explorers. And gradually they will be able to reach a state where they will mutually explore themselves and one another.

Then life becomes interesting; it turns into research: how can we make our relationship different, to change it somehow, to get closer. And if so? What if it’s different? What if they constantly try to discover their qualities, feelings, and their relationship as vibrantly as possible? Even if people do think about such things and realize them, it’s only after about 50 to 60 years.

The time will come that people will live this way. But we can teach them about it! This needs to be said: we can train these youngsters how to become researchers. We can, so to say, “age” them by teaching them. They can gain practical experience.

Question: Even before they join together? Prepare them for this life?

Answer: Yes, of course. And then they will see for themselves how to act one way or another.

Question: So, you say young people should come to their wedding and begin their life as old people?

Answer: Yes, on the inside. Of course. Do you want them to discover who they really are through their own experience? No.

They must come with communication experience! As if psychological interaction. This will give them confidence that they will be able to overcome all sorts of challenges, to get closer and turn these problems into greater contact.

Comment: Beautiful! We talked about a scientific laboratory.

My Response: Yes. The world needs it very much!

Medium published my new article “A New Beginning for Latin America Is Possible”

I feel great sympathy for Latin America and my students there; the socioeconomic turmoil they are experiencing saddens me and I share their concerns and pain. While the whole world is experiencing more difficult situations, Latin American countries do not anticipate a good future either, especially with the high cost of living, exacerbated by the increase in fuel prices.

The recent protests in Argentina, Ecuador and Panama, as well as in other Latin American countries, triggered by the economic crisis, are most likely just the harbinger of social unrest in the coming months. It is likely that the governments of the region will not be able to meet people’s demands for a reduction in the cost of living to appease their fears and discontent.

To overcome the crisis, I suggest that Latin Americans try to lower their demands on material life and not introduce every Western pattern offered to them into their way of life. It is good for them to lead a less developed lifestyle, and to be satisfied with what they have.

Western countries should also let them go and not try to impose their culture and consumerism on them, which the West considers a sign of progress and development. Foremost Kabbalist Yehuda Ashlag rightly wrote that “we learn what a terrible wrong inflict those nations that force their reign on minorities, depriving them of freedom without allowing them to live their lives by the tendencies they have inherited from their ancestors. They are regarded as no less than murderers.” (The Freedom)

Peace and goodness for these nations will not come through materialistic development. On the contrary, the developed nations are bringing destruction to the authentic nations around the world as once happened to the indigenous peoples in the United States. Latin Americans are no longer able to be satisfied with what they have due to the Western influence and they will not be able to stabilize and remain on the same level of existence as the Western countries.

The greatest danger Latin America faces is the uncontrolled proliferation and commercialization of illegal drugs; this is very unfortunate. These are beautiful countries with good people, but they are being destroyed by the desire to artificially raise their standard of living.

The more a nation develops, the more selfishness it develops, and with this comes distance, coldness and social alienation between people. The natural connection that once existed between people and the rest of the species and all of nature, which is the feeling that everyone is connected in one system, is lost. It must be rekindled through education and implementation instruction to truly experience lasting change for the better.

I really like the character of the Latin Americans. They have a straightforward approach to others and to the world. They are not disingenuous people who talk nicely to you while holding a knife or a machete behind their back, they do not have malicious thoughts. But today, they develop without their beneficent intention, only according to what the pocket dictates, not according to the soul. They need to make an effort and put connection between them to the forefront and exercise the mutual care and responsibility that has been lost in a conscious way.

Comment: There is a kind of emptiness in the way the world talks about connection, and in your words about connection there is a feeling of being filled with light. And even when your students talk about it, it feels like there is light there.

My Response: But people from the outside will not feel it right away.

There is a story written two and a half thousand years ago about how King Solomon suddenly found himself on the street in the guise of a beggar and could not prove to anyone that he was a king. No one believed him: “Who is this ragamuffin? He trudges along the roads and claims that he is the king.”

And instead of him, the devil Ashmedai sat on the throne, conducted all the business, and no one could understand that there was a substitution because everyone was at the simple level of this devil. This continued until King Solomon came to the Sanhedrin.

Sanhedrin was a meeting of wise men like a type of parliament. Before the ruining of the Second Temple we were commanded by wise men, and everyone had the right to address them with any question.

Solomon came to this meeting and asked them only one question. All 70 sages stared at him and could not answer. Then they asked: “Who are you?” He said: “I can answer all your questions, and from this, you will understand that it is I who am the wise Solomon and not this man who sits on the throne instead of me.”

The sages checked and made sure that it was so. Solomon returned to his place as a king, as the wisest and spiritually highest person, and Ashmedai was kicked out in disgrace.

Why am I saying this? Until the great sage Solomon came to the Sanhedrin, no one could understand that he was talking about something correct.

That is how we are. We say a lot of things, expose ourselves to the outside, but in most cases we seem, putting it mildly, unrealistic, immaterial: “It is all beautiful, good. The guys are great; they believe that the world can be made better so that people love each other…” and so on.

The world absolutely cannot believe that connection is its necessity, its goal, to which it goes to like a train. It must crash into something because the goal is in front of it and it cannot turn anywhere; it is getting closer to it every minute.

And if you put a system of balancing the similarity between yourself and this goal, then the train will slow down and gently enter it, like a pink cloud: happy, soft, kind, filling, illuminating, and giving a sense of eternity, perfection!

And if not, then this goal will collide with the train like a huge granite rock, will crush everything into a pancake, and then you will slowly begin to recover. But this recovery will be terrible and difficult and will take tens or hundreds of years during which you will, literally lick your wounds and heal yourself.

It will be something incredible—the world after the catastrophe where it will gradually learn and realize on its miasmas what the opposite of them is.

But I am an optimist. We need to disseminate more, and then everything will work out.

Question: Many believe that in the near future AI will be able to pass fair sentences and thus replace humans. What do you think about such a scenario?

Answer: I am certain it will happen because a person is in fact, predictable, limited, corrupted, and a lowly being above all. And prosecutors are clearly no exception. They will be ashamed to see what this electronic prosecutor reveals, what it is able to bring to the surface.

Question: Why, when looking at present day judicial systems, don’t we express some kind of an outcry; “Let’s get rid of them all”? We see it is all so corrupt and that it is basically rooted in egoism.

Answer: We can’t currently replace it with anything. It is a consequence of a society that is uncorrected and egoistic. So there’s nothing with which to replace it.

Question: To be clear, you’re talking about this judicial system?

Answer: Yes. In general, you have no way to fix anything. You can only say: it’s a little softer, it’s a bit worse, it’s better in one place or another, etc. But it all falls within the framework of human relations. All in all, we can’t do anything to directly fix it.

Question: If we talk about the ideal judge, what would he or she look like? I mean a human who is a judge; what does it mean to you?

Answer: A judge is a person who is in practicality a defender of the Creator, who stands as an intermediary between the Creator and the rest of the world. The rest of the world can bring any charges against the Creator and the judge can justify almost all of these charges. That is, he should not be a judge or a prosecutor, but a defender, someone who justifies.

Question: That is, the judge does not pass a sentence, but must instead always pass an acquittal?

Answer: That’s right. How can you justify a person despite the fact that he, a human, is controlled by the Creator? He is 100% under the control of the Creator.

How can we justify a person in this case, when the Creator committed such a crime through this person. Here we must rise to a level above the court, investigation, toward kindness and mercy. And consider before whom will he do it? Before the people who will judge the judge in this way.

Question: Are you saying that he is like an intermediary between the Creator and the people?

Answer: The people and society.

Question: So he essentially has the attainment of the Creator?

Answer: Yes, he must understand the claims of the people as well as the justification of the Creator in order to somehow coalesce them. It’s not easy. This is what is said about judges in the Torah. There is a whole “Book of Judges”.

Question: Could we bring it down a notch to our level? What should a judge feel in order to pass a sentence? Must he have some kind of empathy…or fear? Maybe his verdict will be unfair?

Answer: No, judges were collectively appointed by the people. Naturally, they were held to great standards and expectations back then.

Comment: Well in any case, nothing should “stick” to the judge, neither to the heart nor the hands.

My Response: That’s for sure! He is, on the one hand, a representative of the Creator, on the other hand, a representative of the people and must unite them; while also being above both of them.
