Michael Laitman, On Quora: “Why did the Coronavirus come to all the world? Why is this virus active?“

As much as we have been affected by the pandemic, we are still unaware of its true effect on us.

The pandemic has affected us very deeply. It emerged in order to create a new humanity, to upgrade our attitudes so that we would relate more positively, considerately, compassionately and constructively to each other and to nature.

If we look at ourselves a year ago, and if we would be able to see ourselves a year from now, we would see completely different people. We cannot return to the kinds of people we were before the pandemic. On one hand, the pandemic has isolated, detached, and estranged us from each other more and more, but by doing so, it has given us space to think about who we are, where we are, why we are here, and also, what kind of attitudes we have to each other and to the world in general.

Nature has placed us onto a new level of development from which we will be able to very quickly transition to a whole new kind of positively-connected human society.

It seems as if we have been struck with a very contagious viral disease, but when we understand nature’s purpose and plan, then we see how this state came about precisely as a means to upgrade our attitudes to each other: to become detached from our egoistic-consumeristic values that had been running rampant leading up to the pandemic, and to let us further develop in a more refined manner toward the purpose of creation, to the discovery of who and what we truly are, and why we are alive here in this world.

My new article on Linkedin “People Aren’t Unemployed, They Simply Do Not Need to Work”

Although Israel is recovering from the Covid pandemic, it seems as though the job market is still in the midst of a lockdown. It is not that there are no jobs to occupy; it’s just that people aren’t keen to occupy them. In fact, so many Israelis prefer to remain jobless that the government has initiated a campaign to encourage people to return from furlough or from unemployment. So far, however, the campaign has had only marginal success.

Truthfully, I understand these people. I think that before we rush back to our pre-Covid life, which apparently wasn’t something we so terribly miss, we must reflect on what we want. People now realize that they can have a good life even if they earn less. They have more free time to spend with family and friends, and once you are among people you like, you don’t need to spend a lot of money to enjoy yourself. A day at the beach with the family hardly costs a thing, but is very enjoyable and emotionally rewarding. When you think about it, how much more do we need?

We do not need to love, or even like each other, not yet anyway. All we need is to realize that those I hate are precisely the ones on whom my life depends. If we do that, we will have a society where people truly do not need to work, where they can spend their days in peace, since we’ll be watching out for one another.

Besides, the job market needs fewer and fewer workers. We’ve gone from measuring things in kilometers and meters to measuring things in nanometers. Everything has shrunk, and everything requires fewer working hands. Even computer related jobs require fewer workers than before; the whole society is shifting toward a state where less working hours are required. It is no wonder that some countries are seriously mulling universal basic income programs instead of sending people back to work, or a shorter workweek. The days of hard work are nearing their end, and we need to figure out how we want to spend the additional time on our hands.

Food supply and other necessities will not be a problem; we are already producing more than we’re consuming and we throw away the excess products just to keep the prices up. If we improve distribution, there will be no shortage of necessities anywhere in the world.

Which leads us to the real issue before us: making sure that we get what we need so we can have a good life without worrying about subsistence. To do that, we must put behind us divisions that currently set us apart, such as racial tensions, political rivalries, power struggles of all kinds, cultural differences, and so forth. It may seem impossible to overcome these age-old differences, until we realize that it is precisely thanks to these disputes that we have developed our society, technology, and all that we have. In other words, in order to keep developing, we must preserve precisely the views that we oppose. Without them, our own views will lose their relevance.

Think of love without the existence of hate, and the word becomes meaningless. Think of freedom without captivity, and the whole concept becomes void. We wouldn’t be able to value, or evaluate anything were it not for the existence of its antonym.

Today, people are realizing that there really is no need to work so much, but unless we develop the social values to support this view, society will disintegrate and mayhem will ensue. For centuries, we have cultivated self-absorption to the point that today the vast majority of us are narcissists, plain and simple. A society of narcissists cannot build a distribution system that will see to the well-being of every person since such a system requires regard for the needs of other people, and too many of us simply don’t have it.

Therefore, the first thing to do in order to sail through the transition period toward a new society is to realize that we are dependent on each other, and especially on those who are opposite from us. We needn’t like people who think, speak, or act opposite from us, but we do need to recognize their value for us. We need to realize that they are the ones who render our own tenets valid. If we achieve this, we will realize that we can’t succeed without each other, or even be who we are. This is how interdependent we are.

We do not need to love, or even like each other, not yet anyway. All we need is to realize that those I hate are precisely the ones on whom my life depends. If we do that, we will have a society where people truly do not need to work, where they can spend their days in peace, since we’ll be watching out for one another.

Michael Laitman, On Quora: “How can we solve the worlds clean water shortage problem?“

The spiritual root of water is the force of bestowal, which in Kabbalah is called “the force of Bina.”

As such, on one hand, we develop in water when we are embryos and fetuses, we are born in water, we are drawn to water, and the human body mostly consists of water. However, on the other hand, we become emotionally drier from one generation to the next. In other words, the more we develop, the more the human ego grows, and likewise, the more our attitudes to each other dry out, lacking emotion and an inner sense of connection.

There is an abundance of water in the world, and the sole reason for water shortage is our lack of positive connection to each other. Due to our growing egoistic nature, we find ourselves lodged in myriad problems, with water shortage in several parts of the world being one of them.

If we cared about others as much as we care about ourselves, then we would find solutions to our several problems, water shortage among them. People would find themselves with access to an abundance of water, however, wherever and whenever they want it.

The patent to solving our problems is very simple and open to everyone: If we connect ourselves with a positive attitude of bestowal to each other, then as bestowal is the spiritual root of water (Hassadim [mercy]), we too would draw living water, not floodwater, from above and from below.

Question: My favorite character Don Quixote fights against egoism by trying to solve a problem with a single blow of the spear. How can we keep this boundary so that we do not force the good on people? How can I avoid this?

Answer: Only through education. There is nothing else. Only by explaining that the egoistic nature is given to us on purpose so that we can turn it into its opposite. Otherwise, we have no hope for a more or less normal future.

Nowadays, with our state-of-the-art technology, we are bringing ourselves to a dangerous line. Imagine if all the computers in the world would shut down for a moment, it is not so difficult to do, and that is it, the world comes to a standstill.

Today we do not even need atomic bombs. It is the old, barbaric way. All you have to do is turn off the computers; they control power plants, the water supply, and everything else, and we will not know what to do next.

Question: What does it mean “to attend to the toilet of your planet”? A person gets up in the morning and says what?

Answer: He does not like what is happening to him, to others, to everyone.

Comment: Now there is a pandemic, a virus, you cannot meet anyone, fly anywhere…

My Response: Yes. One must agree with what is happening because this is actually the most correct way. One just needs to justify the Creator. This is the most correct path to the best state.

We just do not understand why this is happening, what is this best state to which we must advance in such a terrible way. None of us likes this world. Everyone would rearrange it in their own way.

Question: Does this agreement: “Whatever You do is for the good. Thank You so much for everything you are doing” mean to attend to the toilet of your planet?

Answer: The Creator does all according to our state. We should be His partners. However, since we are not His partners, He needs to bend us a little and, accordingly, still direct the “boat” in this direction.

Question: That is my understanding. So, does this mean putting my planet in order?

Answer: Yes.

Question: Do I then advance without suffering?

Answer: This is, of course, not possible. On the contrary, I should accept these sufferings as corrections and be happy about them because they heal me.

Why do people like to spy on others?

Answer: Because at the same time a person, first, evaluates himself above others. This is the first impulse: they do not see me, but I see them. I’m kind of cooler than them, and that’s the most important thing. Secondly, maybe it gives him the opportunity to command them or somehow defend against them, etc.

But, in general, peeping is a great help to our egoism, which expands the ego and makes us feel like rulers, masters, owning circumstances.

Question: Is the feeling of such power good or bad?

Answer: This is neither good nor bad. This should lead us to reassess our values so that we understand that all our egoism, all our desires to be better, stronger, and smarter than others are wrong. After all, in the end, relative to nature, we act as one single whole—humanity.

To position ourselves correctly, we must unite among ourselves. And then we will be able to correctly manage our own destiny, nature, and the world. By uniting, we lower our selfishness and raise our altruism. Then we can truly rise above our selfish nature and will not abuse the idea of spying and eavesdropping.

Question: Yuval Noah Harari’s book 21 Lessons for the 21st Century talks about the challenges that humanity will face in the coming years.

Which he describes as mass unemployment, technological, political, and environmental challenges, nuclear weapons, a change of values, an era of disbelief or an epoch of post-truth, mass wars, a change in education, and constant disorientation in the future.

The author believes that former beliefs, on which the world was held until recently, have already collapsed, but nothing has yet come to replace them. We do not understand where to move, what to do, what skills to acquire. Where can this lead?

Answer: I do not consider these challenges a direct threat to humanity since it faces a more serious common goal: to rise above our nature that is constantly destroying us.

In the 20th century, we went through all sorts of technical and technological revolutions and two world wars, but this does not save us. We have reached computerization and technological breakthroughs, but even this is harmful to us. We see that our egoism is simply killing humanity, raising new elites, and they, like a hydra, devour everything around.

Therefore, we must look at the root of the problem. We can change social, political, no matter what, technologies a thousand times, but after a certain hope for some kind of “panacea,” we again find ourselves as losers because our egoism, like a “snake,” conquers everything and leaves us with nothing…

Therefore, all technologies and advances in any area will still lead us to disappointment in our development. It seemed that we could make humanity happy, worthy of the fruits of our development, but we see that, on the contrary, it feels itself falling ever deeper, hungry, unjustly dismantled into countries, nations, and classes. As a result, we again find ourselves in front of a large disillusion.

Therefore, we need to take our main goal, the egoistic nature of man, and see how we can correct it. Without this, all the principles or causes of our misfortunes will lead to nothing. We need to look exactly at the root.

Comment: 2020 stopped production, which resulted in a depression, led to poverty, destroyed entire industries, broke families, and ruined governments. “We have all failed,” says the UN.

On the other hand, forecasts for 2021 say it will be much worse. The virus will be scarier. We will be vaccinated every year or every six months, and so on. There are many dire predictions. And here a man stands between these problems and does not know what to do. He’s like a paralyzed person.

And they also say: “You look at 2020, and it will seem like a fairy tale to you.”
How should an ordinary person behave between these fires?

My Response: A person should still ask himself: “Why is this happening in the world? Can I do something about it?”

Now we can somehow answer this. We still need to correlate our life with what is happening,  why have such viruses suddenly crept out. If we were killed by a nuclear war, that would be another matter, everyone would understand. And why did some strange virus suddenly appear? Tomorrow may bring another one, then a third, and so on. Where can we go from there?

Comment: A nuclear war is understandable: Here is the enemy and he is dropping a bomb on you, or you are dropping it. And then someone invisible…

My Response: Nature.

Question: And how can we talk to nature? How does one enter into a dialogue with it, say: “Don’t touch me.” Or: “Why are you touching me?”

Answer: We do not approach nature, we do not approach it. We are constantly in opposition to nature. All nature is integral, global, everything is interconnected in it, and humanity, on the contrary, builds a system that is opposite to nature in everything!

Nature is a living organism in which we also exist as a living organism. And these two living organisms begin to oppose each other because we do not want to recognize ourselves as a part of nature.

We are doing a huge amount of anti-natural actions. We hate others, we dig in the ground and destroy the air, trees, whatever. See what happens every day! We are even told about it, but we cannot contain ourselves.

We subjugate nature in everything and everyone. We are in every way opposed to the integrality of nature and we constantly violate this integrality at all levels and in all possible forms. And that is why nature reacts in this way! This is not some kind of malicious intent in nature.

Comment: But it is attacking us now.

My Response: It is not attacking, but it is protecting itself from its main pest—man.

There is no question of any retribution here. Only a normal reaction of nature. Not some evil intentions. There is no such thing in nature. And there is just a clear reaction. We have reached the point where nature will have to destroy us. We are the only and greatest evil in nature.

Question: So what’s next? What actions should an ordinary person take?

Answer: Stop being opposite to nature. Make it so that you understand what it means to correspond to it, moreover, at the levels of physical, genetic, biological, vegetative, animate, whatever. And most importantly, as a person. With our thoughts, we are directing huge damage to nature. We do not want to be the integral core of all nature. Although we, in general, are the top of it by design.

Question: I am an ordinary person who lived my normal life. Is it enough for me to begin to understand that the world is interconnected?

Answer: I must understand! Otherwise, these pandemics will not end. What does nature teach you? That you are in a huge closed system. In this system, you excite all kinds of negative forces, properties, reactions.

Question: So you won’t get tired of repeating, repeating, and repeating it?

Answer: I have nothing more to say. I speak from a different point of view. What else can I say to humanity? After all, there is no other reason for our constant deterioration of our condition, degradation at all levels. There is no other reason.

We have created a system of our interconnection, the so-called society, which eats itself up.

Question: What decision should an ordinary person make, not the government of the world, not the UN? What do you call him to?

Answer: I think that nothing depends on government here. It depends on the attitude of a person to the world around him—to inanimate, vegetative, animate and human levels of nature. All levels.

We must protect this world. We must, as the most terrible, threatening part of it, bring this world to equilibrium precisely with our correct attitude. Except for us, all of nature, the entire universe is in equilibrium. And we are breaking this balance with our thoughts and actions.

Question: So it is enough for me to at least direct my thought to this?

Answer: And everything else depends on thought. A person does not do anything completely thoughtlessly. If we stop thinking about harming each other, then the world will immediately begin to calm down from this thought.

Most importantly, let’s calm down with our thoughts.

Question: The “Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen,” published in France in the 18^th century, speaks of freedom, equality, and brotherhood.

In the same Declaration it is written: “Don’t do unto others what you don’t want them to do to you. Do to others such good deeds as you would like to see done to yourself.”

Kabbalah also says that it is necessary to unite, to love. Everyone understands this. But how to come to this?

Answer: People perceive it one-sidedly. Regarding myself, of course, I want everyone to treat me as I see fit. Therefore, when they say: “Freedom, equality, brotherhood, and unification”—it seems good, warm, and kind to me.

But if I have to treat others in the same way, i.e., expend effort, energy, thoughts, and worries, then I no longer want this. This is contrary to my nature, absolutely opposite to it. It turns out that we all, of course, want love, but giving love to another is already a problem! This is against us.

Question: If this is against our nature, why do we keep saying all these words? Why are they always on the radar?

Answer: Because, in principle, we want it, but we cannot implement it.

Question: That is, we understand the benefits of such an attitude toward ourselves?

Answer: Of course. But then I have to do the same for others. How can I? I’m not able to! My nature does not allow me to do this.

Comment: So, it turns out that man is an irrational being. The amount of money we spend on weapons instead of improving our lives!

My Response: We all understand this, and there is nothing we can do. This is our egoism. We are created in such a way that we are not able to do good to each other.

Question: And who created us like this?

Answer: Nature, we can say it’s the Creator, it’s the upper force. There is no difference. This is how we evolved by nature.

Question: And what to do with this nature? What does Kabbalah say?

Answer: Kabbalah says that this can be corrected, but only if a person consciously desires it and makes certain efforts. There is a method that will allow him to rise above his egoistic nature and feel others as himself, to the point that he will wish to others what he wishes to himself. Then the world will come to a state of perfection, equality, and brotherhood.

Man exists on the highest developmental degree. When he starts correcting his relationships with other people, the other degrees—still, animate, and still, will instantly enter a balance. The world will calm down and become wonderful and integral. #environment

We are confident that by realizing “green” projects, we are conserving nature. However, it is not the global nature that we have to correct—rather, we must correct the person. All of nature is integral and interconnected on all degrees.

The primary way out of any #tragedy must be realization of evil of our relationships.

We need more energy as we want to produce a greater variety of unnecessary products. By making the right calculation, we would have saved on excesses. But the ego will not allow us to do so. Knowing that we will die in a year will not help us change our behavior.
I’m enjoying the right now—and that’s enough!

It’s been 10 years since the tragedy at the Fukushima #nuclear plant. But humanity does not learn lessons from tragedies. It learns only from blows. All the blows that humanity has undergone in times of war, catastrophes, and tsunamis, have accelerated the negative development.
We continue to follow a flawed path.
