Question: As a young person, what can I learn from an old person?

Answer: A young person can learn a different attitude towards life from an old person. That is, he can understand that the achievements that seem important to him now are not important at all, and it is worthwhile for him to fill his life with what will allow him to leave his footprints behind him forever. This is specifically what an old person and someone approaching old age wants.

And then we come to integral education whose task is to explain a system of eternal connections exists among us. Within it we can express ourselves and remain in a form filled with a new spirit of bestowal to others.

During the time of our egoistic reception we cannot do this, and then we die, such that nothing is left of us at all. But if I connect with the others in bestowal, then I acquire an eternal power that acts by itself and doesn’t require reception from others. And so this power operates all the time. If I am included in this power of bestowal and love that fills all of reality and go along with it, then I increase this power through my desire.

That is how I am included in this field of power and begin to live in it. And I will never die! This is my “self” that succeeds in becoming mixed with the power of bestowal in an eternal manner, for this altruistic power itself is eternal.

For this it is only necessary to change my psychological perception. Now I perceive myself as living and existing according to what I get. To the degree that I have aged, my egoistic powers weaken and dissolve. I age, and gradually lose all desire until I die. This means that the force of my needs dies as it becomes smaller and smaller, until it disappears completely.

Among us this is called “death.” But if I develop the power of bestowal and love within me, then I will not feel death. I will see how the power of bestowal fills the world, and with my new desire, I am included in this power and add intensity to it. I let this power of bestowal be revealed through me as if it is clothed in a new body. In this manner, I acquire a new life that is spiritual and not physical!

This body is beastly and I feel that formerly I was living with a single egoistic spirit, and now I live with a completely different spirit, which is the spirit of bestowal. And with this spirit of bestowal the angel of death has no control over me.

This spirit of bestowal is revealed to the people who are surrounded by it, and so it transforms them into very useful members of society. It is possible to gather people of retirement age, who already feel that they are approaching the end of their life, and explain to them how they can become eternal. And then we don’t end life along with this physical body because we don’t identify ourselves with it; instead we build a new body, a body of bestowal instead of egoistic reception.

So if a person doesn’t want to feel aging as a gradual decay until his lamp is completely extinguished, it is necessary for him to attain bestowal and discover the system of integral connections in which he will feel his eternal existence before his physical body dies.

Question: What kind of conclusion must the young person make from life being constructed such that eventually his or her time will inevitably end?

Answer: From a young age it is necessary to teach a person that this life is an ascent until the age of 30, and after that it is a descent and death. And therefore we must use all of this life to make a constant ascent from it that will never end!

M. Weisman, “The Midrash Says” (Chapter “Shemini”): There is only one method for getting closer to the Creator, and that is absolute obedience to His will. And the Lord says to Moses: “Tell your brother Aaron that I did him a great honor. Tell him where his sons are, is where the innermost part of the Shechina will be, which means the place where the Creator is revealed, His divine presence. Even you and your brother Moses will not attain such heights.

This is talking about a state that the created beings cannot attain until the end of correction. It is revealed after the levels of Aaron and Moses.

The fact is that Moses is buried on Mount Nebo across the Jordan River and his place of burial is unknown to this day. It turns out that he attained a level that no one has disclosed yet. But it still is not a level of the complete connection and unity that includes both the people and the Torah, i.e.,  all the parts of the general soul.

But at the end of the general correction, all levels will be revealed in what is called the allegorical picture of Moses’ tomb. In principle, there is no tomb since he climbed the mountain by himself and died there.

Later the state of Moses will appear again, but at a level that all the other souls below will begin to ascend to him, connect with him, and advance all the way to the end of correction. Then we will really ascend to the level about which it is said that “even you and your brother Moses will not reach such heights.”

The Torah speaks about the preparation that our egoistic desire goes through before entering what is called the land of Israel, that is, before the complete development of our egoism in love and bestowal.

It only tells us about the period when we come out of Egypt and reach the border of the land of Israel by going through forty spiritual levels and forty years of wandering in the desert (the ascent from Malchut (will to receive) to Bina (will to bestow). Then there is the descent from Bina to Malchut, when we begin to attain the level of Malchut, raise it to Bina, and then ascend from Bina to Keter (crown).

After the whole mass is corrected by the gradual ascent, there is an action called Rav Pealim Mekabtziel, a special force that unites all the corrected parts of the general (Mekabtziel is the connection that compresses everything into one unique force).

This is an additional correction. When it is fulfilled there will be an ascent all the way to the level of Keter. The level of Moses will then actually be revealed, not the way it is described here, but on the next level, when all the levels merge and ascend to the level of Keter.

Then the tomb of Moses will be revealed, that is, the state in which we attain the level of Moses, and together with him will begin to ascend until the complete end of correction.

Rav Kook’s Letters: Even the lowest person, when offered to do kindness with the whole world, which includes everything infinitely, will powerfully rejoice to do good.

All the laziness and the weakness is only a result of lack of faith in the greatness of the good that can be done to the whole universe when engaging in the Torah, the Mitzvot, the work and the purity of our measures. This is depicted by understanding the spiritual unity, which means knowing that the light of the soul of every individual is connected to the general soul of the whole existence.

Every person should say that the world was created for him. When a person does his work he generates a change in all the other souls. It is because we all belong to and are included in one mechanism, and when a person corrects his connection with the whole world, he brings the parts of his soul back to him and thus helps others connect.

It is like fishnet that was thrown into the sea during the shattering. As a result of the shattering, I am left with only a point in the heart, and my other parts dispersed in the water and remain external to me. I was born this way; it is a fact.  Now I need to take the fishnet out and to gather my lost parts and connect them back to me.

By working with the public, I connect my parts back to me on one hand, and on the other hand, I give each and everyone the spiritual force to start working with his own net. It seems that I speak to strangers but really it is me in different forms.

When I draw people to this idea, it turns out that I bring the parts of my soul closer to me. All of humanity are parts of my soul. But except for this, my part, each one has his own personality. By attracting my parts, I convey the spiritual force to them by which they can work in their own circle, with their own world.

It turns out that when I pull this net out of the water, I awaken all the parts of my soul that were connected to this net, and each one pulls out his own net and clarifies its content because everyone has his own world. Thus we understand that working with the public enables us to connect the parts of my soul; the quantity becomes quality and so each one advances toward implementing the establishment of the ten Sefirot of his own soul.

Question: Why did the Creator choose one nation for a special mission, and is this choice related to religion?

Answer: The true religion is to love your friend as thyself. This is the rule that Abraham publicized in ancient Babylon, and he gathered the people around him according to this rule into a group called Israel, which means Yashar El (straight to the Creator).

Only some of the people of Babylon followed Abraham; those who had greater vessels of bestowal. All the others had vessels of receiving. This was intentional so that they would have a chance to help one another.

First the vessels of bestowal are corrected so that they can ascend to a spiritual level. When Abraham collected them, they had nothing. So first they had to go through the hardening of the heart called Egypt, that is, they don’t ascend but rather descend.

After the exodus from Babylon, they go down to Egypt, then come out of Egypt and ascend to the receiving of the Torah. They then cross the desert, build the first Temple, and fall. They ascend again to the height of the second Temple and go through another descent to the corporeal level. This is in order to be mutually incorporated with the nations of the world and get ready for the end of the correction of the world.

The whole process, starting with the exodus from Babylon and everything that follows, is in order to reach greater connection. This is what Abraham taught. The moment they started to connect, they felt that they were in a greater and greater descent.

The Light that shone on them made it possible for them to descend more and more deeply into their ego and to see that they were far from bestowal, from the Light. Therefore, they felt the gap, the delta between the state of the exile in Egypt and the level they were on when they left Babylon, and they would have remained on that level if it weren’t for the Light. This is the gap between the Light and our ego.

Question: How is it possible to correct the negative connection between people into a positive connection?

Answer: The whole problem is in how to correct a negative connection between us into a positive one. If we were to succeed in arranging and determining a positive connection, then we would feel the higher power between us, and instead of the reality of today, we would see a reality that is completely full of Light, bestowal. This would be life in another, spiritual dimension.

But we are in a shattering with respect to this condition of wholeness, in a form which is its opposite. All of our work is to go from the broken state to the state of wholeness.

One vessel that was filled with Light was created at the beginning of creation. This state is called world of Infinity. But those who were in this world didn’t feel themselves as existing because the Light suppresses all differences and doesn’t permit feeling anything. For this reason the shattering was created, and everyone there discovers that there is no longer any Light. The Light disappeared from this world; it was removed and the world was left empty. And now all parts of creation have become egoistic; ego is revealed between them!

We need to bring the Light back so that it will again fill the world. This is our goal and this will indicate a state of the end of correction (Gmar Tikkun). But due to the difference between these two states, we pass from a negative state to such a positive level where we begin to understand and feel the higher power, the Creator.

In the first state we were suppressed and didn’t feel ourselves at all, we were completely filled with the Upper Light, like a drunkard who gets so drunk that he loses consciousness and doesn’t understand what is happening to him. We are now in the second state and are beginning to feel how much we lack the Light, how much we lack the right connection between us. This is the crisis that the world is experiencing today. The Light gradually disappeared and now we are beginning to feel that we are sinking into darkness.

And our next state is the beginning of the correction where we bring the Light back to a place to the degree that our souls will be ready to accept it and to attract it again, to the degree that we demand that the Creator be together with us. We need to vacate a place for Him, and for this we must remove our ego that takes up our entire living space. It is necessary to suppress it. So all of us together enter into the center of the group where we build relationships with each other that are like the Light. And according to this resemblance and equivalence, according to the law of equivalence of form between the Light and the vessel, the Light returns to our connection. All of this is very easy to understand and incredibly difficult to carry out.

Lag B’Omer is a very important holiday because, first of all, it symbolizes the end of the correction of the vessels. On the whole there are seven Sefirot: Hesed, Gevura, Tifferet, Netzach, Hod, Yesod, and Malchut (HGT NHYM), and each one includes the same seven Sefirot.

Altogether it is 7×7=49 Sefirot, and on the fiftieth day comes the holiday Shavuot. The correction of the vessels ends in Hod of Hod since Hod corresponds to Malchut: Hesed is Keter, Gevura is Hochma, Tifferet is Bina, Zeir Anpin is Netzach, Malchut is Hod. So the correction ends in Lag B’Omer (the 33^rd day of Omer): 7 Sefirot of Hesed, 7 Sefirot of Gevura, 7 Sefirot of Tifferet, 7 Sefirot of Netzach, and 5 Sefirot of Hod, a total of 33 Sefirot.

The 33^rd Sefira is Hod of Hod, which is like Malchut of the first nine Sefirot, where the upper bestowal ends. If we perform the correction until Hod of Hod, then the correction will certainly take place in the remaining Sefirot because the work of correction is actually over and then it is only put into practice from Yesod of Hod through the general Yesod and the general Malchut.

So Lag B’Omer is celebrated as a special day in the correction of the common soul; the work is already completed. Afterward, everything will undoubtedly be fulfilled correctly.

Therefore, it is customary to light bonfires, because it is the holiday of light. It is also clear that from this day onward, Rabbi Shimon was not obliged to remain with his students because he finished his work, and therefore he left this world.

We continue to count and clarify the days of the Omer to the end, until Shavuot, but, from the top down, all the Sefirot are already filled with Light and the whole state is ready. Therefore, it is the day the great illumination called Rashbi departs.

The system of Adam HaRishon (First Man) consisted of one desire which later was broken and divided into 600,000 pieces, like a puzzle. All of these parts are now separated by various obstacles in that they do not feel their connection and do not want to be connected. They hate and repel one another. We can see this from people’s behavior in this world.

We have to correct this disconnection and become connected. First we study our breakage, and after that we study the opposite, connection. We begin to get to know the Creator and His actions from comparing these two actions.  This is called “knowing the Creator through His actions.” As a result of our study, we elevate ourselves to the level of the Creator. We understand the thought of the creation, its purpose, and everything from the beginning to the end. We elevate ourselves higher than the creation.

The entire creation, everything that has happened to it and will happen, exists within this square, this puzzle. If we know how to match the parts of this puzzle, how to connect them together, we come to know everything about the creation and the Creator who created it. All we have to do is to put this puzzle together.

Question: Where does the sixth sense exist? Is it also within me?

Answer: The sixth sense does not exist within us, but in the center of the group. A group is called an assembly of people who are ready to renounce their egoism for the sake of uniting with one another in the center of the group and there reveal the common sensation and common mind.

This common sensation and mind revealed in the center of the group is called a spiritual vessel where the Creator is manifested. This is our spiritual level, the upper non-corporeal life.

Even when the body dies, we will not feel as dead because we have found life within the common upper system.

In the beginning one great vessel was created by means of the four phases of the Direct Light, called the world of Infinity. And then this world began to extend downward, up to our world.

First of all, the world of Adam Kadmon appeared from the world of Infinity, and after it the world of Nekudim was created, which disappeared, shattered.

After this shattering the worlds of ABYA (Atzilut, Beria, Yetzira, Assiya) were created and from them a particular internal system was born called Adam HaRishon (The First Man). The systems of the worlds can be learned from the first 15 sections of the book The Study of the Ten Sefirot (TES), and only its last, 16^th section talks about Adam HaRishon in a very limited form.

The idea is that everything that happens with the system of the worlds that extend from above to downward, afterwards happens with Adam HaRishon as well. The upper system is called the system of the worlds and the inner part is called Adam, a human being or Neshama (soul).

The system of Adam HaRishon also evolves from above downward and is shattered like the world of Nekudim. But we ourselves have to carry out the correction of this entire system since this is our work.

The external system of worlds is already prepared, it exists and influences us, whereas we have to correct the internal system.

Question: What is the difference if I realize a Reshimo or if we realize it together?

Answer: I realize my particular Reshimo as a part of the Reshimo of the group. But the Upper Light only considers the Reshimo of the group. As long as this collective Reshimo has not reached a sufficient intensity that makes it possible for us to realize it within our connection, the Light will not be revealed. A private account is not made with any of us.

This is the condition for receiving the Torah as one man with one heart, that is, according to the collective Reshimo. There can be millions of particular Reshimot, but as long as they are not connected into one collective Reshimo required for the next level, we don’t rise to it.

We are now on the level of the animate and we need to realize a Reshimo from the level of the speaking. This is a collective Reshimo that we all gather together, that must be sufficient in quantity and quality. It’s not known exactly what this must be, but it’s only clear that the amount of all of our deeds multiplied by the quality, by the intensity of our effort, must connect into one higher level Reshimo.

All of the inanimate matter is equal to one plant, all of the plants is equal to one animate, and all of the animate is equal to one speaking. Therefore, we also need all of the Reshimot of the animate to connect and give us one Reshimo of the speaking.

And this is called the collective Reshimo of the group, which could include within it a million people below. It doesn’t matter how many there are, the main thing is that our Reshimo will qualitatively attain an intensity of one Reshimo of the next level. Then we will be born.

When we are born into the new world, not one of us will be there, rather there will only be “us.” When you will be born, you will immediately feel a system there that includes you in which you are found together with Rabbi Shimon and Adam HaRishon. Then you will already begin to take account of the souls.
