The Choice Is In Favor Of Spiritual Development

557Question: We understand the unification at the level of inanimate elements. For example, we combine hydrogen with oxygen and we get something else—water. And what should happen when people unite sensorially?

Answer: They will complement each other until they are united into a single system called “one soul” or “Adam.” In this state, they will fully accommodate the properties of the Creator.

Question: Is it in this state that there is freedom of choice?

Answer: No. Freedom of choice appears at the very beginning, when we choose that we will follow the path that makes it possible to feel the common soul. Choice is a consequence of what we choose in our relationship with the Creator.

Question: By practicing the Kabbalistic method can we accelerate our spiritual development? And can we somehow influence the earthly, corporeal?

Answer: Corporeal changes can only be a consequence of the spiritual. Through the spiritual, I can influence our earthly life both negatively and positively.

Adam Is A Collective Soul

275There are only two parameters for people, objects, and every phenomena that we observe in the world: the Creator is the force of bestowal and the only creation is the collective soul. Humanity is a single creation that develops as a whole.

Therefore we divide everything that exists into two parts. One part is a force called the Creator, which holds everything in itself. The second part is what He created, which develops and leads to the purpose of creation.

The Creator is the power of bestowal, the power of love, positive emanation. And creation is the desire to receive pleasure, comprehension, and fulfillment. Their mutual correspondence with each other gives rise to all versions of the existing creation.

Humanity is developing as a whole. It exists inside a huge control system launched by the Creator who is in it as an animating, developing, and controlling force. Through this system the Creator controls all creations: inanimate, plant, animal, and especially man, in order to bring them to one single state: full connection with each other and their full connection with Himself.

This common creation, which includes absolutely everything, is called the desire to receive, or the soul. The soul (the common creation) must come to complete connection, to complete convergence, union, or merging with the Creator in the likeness of properties. This is where we are going.

Our path is that we first realize the evil of our nature, which is opposite to the Creator, and then we want to change it, enter the so-called period of correction, and by gradually correcting ourselves create an image of our likeness to the Creator, and to this extent comprehend Him.

As soon as we begin to become similar to the Creator and further, we will be called a “soul” since our desire aimed at bestowal and love in the likeness of the Creator is called a soul.

In addition, the common soul is also called “Adam,” from the word “like the Creator.” All private souls of inanimate, plant, and animate nature, and man must be united together in the correct system of communication over their rejection and egoistic separation.

And then in their assembled form they will be called Adam, the collective soul. This soul comprehends the Creator and is completely identical with Him.

632.3Attain the property of the Creator

Question: How can we attain the property of the Creator in sensation and mind?

Answer: Only in a group.

We must reach a state where mercy, truth, justice, and peace will interact between us in such a way that we feel that we are creating a balanced system, which is called a spiritual body or a common soul.

By starting to create it, we will see what we are missing: add a little mercy, a little truth, a little justice, remove this world, and so forth. We must understand how to dynamically, correctly interact with each other. The constant maintenance of the balance of all four categories is spiritual life.

This is our job. In this we will feel ourselves advancing in the spiritual world and feeling the Creator in ourselves and among ourselves. In general, this is life.

This is not difficult, because the upper light, which acts on us in accordance with our efforts, does this work itself. We do not have to think about how we recognize these categories. We just need to strive for unity, and thus the categories “mercy,” “truth,” “justice,” and “peace” will unite between us.

Then each of these parts is the first, second, third, fourth part of our soul, that is, Hochma, Bina, Zeir Anpin, and Malchut will begin to correctly interact with each other. And if they reach at least the minimum correct connection and begin to restore inner balance, we will feel the Creator in it, as we feel life in balance between the organs of the body.

Build the Creator Between Us

Baal HaSulam, “Peace in The World”: That is, truth necessitates us to equalize all the individuals in the collective, to receive their share according to their labor, no more and no less. And this is the one true basis, which cannot be doubted, for it is certain that anyone who wishes to enjoy the labor of his friend, his acts are against the above-mentioned reason and clear truth.

The category truth states that I cannot receive more than I give or give more than I receive. There should be a law of universal balance between everyone without exception. It depends on the individual properties of each person, on the amount of his efforts, and the state he is in. Maybe one got a little sick, or a person had some issues, etc.

That is, the category of truth is not universal. It is not something written in stone that can be calibrated as in some device and used consistently.

In the same way, there are  a huge number of organs in our body that are constantly in dynamic balance. They must balance each other out or the body will be constantly out of balance and a person will not feel well. This condition is called a disease when organs cannot maintain the overall internal balance of the body.

Therefore, the categories of mercy, truth, justice, and peace are designed to give us the understanding of how we can balance ourselves so that our soul will start being manifested and exist on its own. Otherwise, it will simply not exist.

We must unite with each other and then our correct connection will give us what is called a soul. In it, we will reveal the life of the organism called the Creator, which we will build between ourselves.

Question: So, we must become an active part of managing the whole system?

Answer: Not just to become an active part of the system but to create it. The Creator says: “You have made Me.” It was not the Creator who created man, but man who created the Creator!

264.01Practical Difficulties in Determining the Truth

Baal HaSulam, “Peace in the World“: “When we discuss good attributes in theory, there is certainly no better attribute than the attribute of truth.

This is because all the good that we have defined above in the relationship between the individual and the collective is when the individual gives and fully plays his part toward the collective, and also takes his share from the collective justly and honestly. All this is but the truth, but the drawback is that in fact, the collective does not accept this attribute at all. Thus, the practical difficulty in the above-mentioned truth is proven from itself: There is some drawback and a cause here that makes it unacceptable to the collective. We must examine what is that drawback.

When you closely examine the above-mentioned truth from the perspective of its practical feasibility, you will necessarily find it vague and complicated, and it is impossible for the human eye to scrutinize it, since the truth requires that we equalize all the individuals in the collective, so they receive their share according to their labor, no more and no less.”

If we are talking about correct interaction between people, then how can we come together to a state of truth, because this is simply impossible. Everyone has their own truth and everyone sees it in their own way.

The fact is that everyone should bestow, everyone should receive, everyone should correctly interact with society in all possible qualities of connection. But how can we connect all this together?

We are connected by 620 threads of connection. How can we make sure that all the threads of connection between us are aligned correctly and work in a balanced way? This is where the “flaw” in the very call for mutual complementing, bestowal, and love is revealed that does not allow us to do it.

Question: In the egoistic world everyone sees mercy, truth, justice, and peace in their own way. Does a variety of these categories exist in spirituality as well, or is there one understanding for the common soul?

Answer: There are different understandings in spirituality, but they depend on the degree a person is at. At each degree where I am now, have been, or will be, these correlations change because each time I see my attitude to others and their attitude to me more and more internally, more deeply, and I try to balance them.

283.01To Revive the Spiritual Body

Baal HaSulam, “Peace in the World”: Four attributes are provided for that purpose: mercy, truth, justice, and peace. These attributes have been used by all world reformers thus far. It is more correct to say that it is with these four attributes that human development has advanced thus far through the government of heaven, in a gradual path, until it brought humankind to its current state.

The Creator controls us through four forces, four attributes, four qualities—mercy, truth, justice, and peace. He causes them to manifest in us both in a positive and in a negative form. As a result we are adjusted by these four attributes to our perfect state in which we complement each other like cells in the body.

Take, for example, the human body, disassemble it into the smallest cells and try to fit them together. How will you compare them with each other? How can they connect, complement each other, interact, integrate? This is an incredible job!

But this is how it happens. However, if we could see our physical body operating, then we will see that we do not have such a spiritual body, it is broken.

We begin our journey by Adam being shattered, and he must be assembled together piece by piece through mercy, truth, justice, and peace. This is the work of a person in our world.

It has already been written that it would be better for us to take the law of development under our own hands and government, for then we will rid ourselves of any torment that the developmental history has in store for us henceforth.

If we took this law into our own hands, we would understand that each of us has absolutely broken qualities of mercy, truth, justice, and peace. We have nothing in common with them, and therefore, we cannot communicate with each other. After all, we can connect only based on these four categories.

This is our job. Let’s study them and try to put them together. Each of us consists of all parts, but we need to understand how we can connect them.

How Can We Become Part Of The Integral System

117Question: What is the right action on my part in order to become part of the integral system? Or perhaps I have no part in that at all?

Answer: You do! That’s the whole idea! Now when I feel connected to the whole mechanism of the integral system, how can I act or its advantage?

This means that I am not an individual entity, but I am only a source of benefit or harm to the whole mechanism. It is just like every cell in the body, which doesn’t exist by itself, but only in order to sustain the multi- functionality of the whole body.

Question: How do I integrate in this system correctly?

Answer: We need to feel all the cells around us in order to do so, and also the Creator who fills them with His force of life. Just as there is a spirit that keeps the body alive, we too need to feel all the cells of the body and the spirit that fills them, and work accordingly for the wellbeing of the body and the wellbeing of the corporeal spirit. This is what is meant by “from the love of others to the love of the Creator.”

Question: How can we mutually cooperate with these cells? On what basis if I don’t have these attributes at the moment?

Answer: These attributes will appear in you. You will gradually begin to feel how you mutually cooperate with others, and how together, by the cooperation between you, you can bring the whole body to the form of the creation.

Question: Does this mean that I have to feel them and to feel this attribute that connects us in order to discover such a desire?

Answer: It isn’t a problem. Just start thinking in this direction and you will understand that it is possible.

939.01A Special Stratum of Our Generation

Question: Who are the friends in the group? Is it the entire world group in relation to me and my work?

Answer: These are the elements that are closest to you from the construction of a common soul. They are among you, and they are a little further from you, they are here and around the world.

All of us in the world group Bnei Baruch are parts of one big soul called Adam. At the moment, our group is a stratum of the current generation in which you, me, and all others interested in spiritual development are located.

Question: And what is Adam’s task?

Answer: Any person has only one task—to reveal the Creator in connection between themselves and others.

The Fall Of Adam—Shattering Of The Common Desire

283.02Comment: The shattering of the vessels, desires, is, in principle, a Kabbalistic term. However, many who have read the Pentateuch (the Bible) understand its allegorical language.

My Response: Actually, this is not difficult to understand at all. If my desire is directed for the sake of others, for the benefit of others, then it is considered complete, perfect. If it is for my own sake and as a rule against others, it is called shattered.

Question: Does the fall of Adam represent the shattering of the vessels?

Answer: It is said about this that all the desires that were in the prototype of man Adam were practically a desire that has not yet been clothed in our protein bodies and was directed only for bestowal. Yet, as a result of certain actions made on it, it turned into a desire to receive. This is the shattering of Adam.

Adam is a system that was one single desire, and when it suddenly began to feel itself consisting of many elements, it shattered. That is, every desire included in the general desire wanted to receive for its own sake. This is the fall, the shattering of Adam.

Question: Can we say that the term “the fall of Adam” is in the language of feelings and “the shattering of the vessels” is a Kabbalistic, technical language?

Answer: Of course. It is the same thing, just explained in different languages.

Comment: Kabbalists have identified all Kabbalistic terms from nature itself just in order for a person not to have corporeal associations. After all, when I imagine the fall of Adam—a tree, an apple, and so on—it takes me away from the true picture: everything is inside my desire.

My Response: Today, of course, no one believes and cannot believe in these stories. This is all completely unreal.

In fact, with these stories Kabbalists explain the most internal, most complex laws and connections in nature.

Comprehending The Hidden Part Of Nature

222Question: How can we work with people in order to bring them closer to an integral state?

Answer: Through conversations with them and between themselves about the meaning of life: “Why do we have such questions? Why, during the many thousands of egoistic developments of mankind, have we come to such a state when we have no idea where to develop further?”

Although the new generation is still striving for money by inertia, in principle, it is already beginning to show its fatigue and unwillingness to develop in the same form.

We see that egoism is no longer the driving force behind our development. We are ready to bury ourselves in our apartments with our phones and have no connection with anyone. The egoistic force of our development leads us to something completely opposite to it. Where did it come from? Why? Etc.

In general, there is a whole technique when, with the help of such clarifications, people begin to understand that the next level of development is supra-egoistic. It is aimed at ensuring that in unity we begin to comprehend the hidden nature—not inanimate, vegetative, and animate, but spiritual.

In principle, despite the fact that we are so developed, we are animals because we use the same egoism as all the previous levels—still, vegetative, and animate—only in a more exaggerated form. We must go to the next, collective level, Adam, to which the whole of humanity is gradually moving.
