What Erases the Feeling of Fear?

209Question: If we come to such a state where the body does not feel taste in spiritual work at all, although yesterday it seemed you were in total bestowal, is there any point in arousing fear in yourself?

Answer: No, you can try it and you will see how impossible it is to hold on to it, because real fear comes from above.

Question: But if I do fall into this state, what is the right way to fight it?

Answer: Pray. I cannot tell you anything else.

Question: Which sources are the most useful to read in this state?

Answer: Whatever we are studying. This primarily erases the feeling of fear.

Raising a Child through a Smartphone

600.02Question: A 43-year-old father of five, Justin Smith, created his own YouTube channel. He realized that since his children were constantly glued to their smartphones, he could no longer speak with them in any other way. On this channel, he talks about himself—where he works, and how he travels around the world. He believes that from now on, he will communicate with his children in this way because the gap will be so huge that one can no longer talk to children directly. One must be where they are. What do you think about that?

Answer: I think this is absolutely right. Children have already shifted their attention solely to screens. They do not see the world, they do not see landscapes. You take them out into nature, but they still keep looking at their smartphones.

They get on a plane—they are not interested in the plane. They board a ship—they are not interested in the ship either. They are always on their screens. If you show them a plane on the screen—it is interesting; a ship—it is also interesting; a landscape—it is interesting as well. But only on the screen!

That is, they have a completely different perception now, and we have to take that into account. What else can you do?

Comment: Suppose they have been cut off from landscapes. But in the process, they were also cut off from their father and mother.

My Response: No! Their father and mother are right in front of them on the screen. For the child, it is clear. But when they see a person in real life, it is unclear.

Even when sitting in a café or elsewhere, they do not talk to each other; they communicate only through their smartphones. So how can you avoid this? What can you do? There is no going back.

Our whole world is virtual. What is the difference whether I see my mom and dad on the screen that seems real to me (even though it does not actually exist, it forms some image within me), or I see them on my smartphone? It makes no difference from the perspective of Kabbalah. It is all just a matter of perception. We have slightly changed our sensations, and children have shifted to a more “clip-like” perception of the world. We just need to adapt to that. There is no other way.

And the sooner we adapt, the sooner we will gain contact with the children. And we will suddenly discover that when we place ourselves inside this smartphone, just talking heads of mom and dad, we can demonstrate anything to them, any kind of film! And they will understand it, that is the main thing. Otherwise, they will not understand us. You talk to a child, but he is staring into his gadget.

Question: Do you not think they have simply been deprived of their childhood?

Answer: They have not been deprived of anything! For them, this is childhood. And soon childhood will become even more virtual. What do you want, to go back to caves?

Comment: I would like to go back to the courtyards.

My Response: There is no need! That is your nostalgic memory, but for them, that does not exist. For them, nostalgia is only for the smartphone. Give them an ever more advanced smartphone each time, and that is it, they need nothing more.

Question: What will this eventually lead to?

Answer: To the realization that a person can perceive the entire world through a screen, and that the world itself does not exist. It does not exist! Waterfalls? You can find waterfalls on the screen. You find this, and you find that. Everything people tell me, everything I hear, I see it in front of me.

I do not even need to travel anywhere, by the way. Why would I? Everything is in front of me. The whole universe, the entire tiny Earth, everything is there. Great! I can call any friend and have a conversation with him. There is no need to run anywhere. At most, we can get together and even then, what for? So that everyone still looks at their own screen?

I am sure humanity will create tools to replace these little phones, and we will see a great deal in front of us—whether through special glasses, without glasses, or some other way. We will feel it within.

In fact, this is an approach toward the real world, not our mechanical one, which we also perceive only inside ourselves. We do not actually know what is in front of us because this image of reality is formed within us.

Various forces draw this picture of reality inside me. So why should I break away for the sake of this “reality”? Why do I need these walls, all this stuff? Why? After all, we can live in a completely different state.

Comment: But people love to travel around the world…

My Response: We will create it, make it, and travel that way!

Question: Will the sensation be the same?

Answer: Even better! Where can I travel at my age with a cane? But this way, I can swing from vines like a monkey, swim, dive into oceans—I will do everything! It will be me.

Question: Is that a good thing?

Answer: Why not? Even now we live in an illusory world. And we are heading into the real one, the one we will create ourselves.

In the end, humanity will reach a state where it needs only a smartphone and the bare minimum to satisfy its animal body. What is wrong with that?

Robots will work to provide us with what we need to fill ourselves. And I do not care what I will be filled with when I look into my smartphone, everything else is there.

History, geography, communication, travel, flights, novels, anything you want, it is all in there. Why would I need it all outside? Why build these big towers and all that?

Wonderful! I welcome this world. I do not feel bad for my grandchildren, I am happy for them! Because, in essence, they are building a much better world than the one they received from us.

Return to the Very Best State

744Comment: You said that when a person enters spirituality, there is no desire, no Aviut, but only a Masach and reflected light.

My Response: Yes, all the empty space is filled with reflected light. It, like on photographic film, begins to reveal the Creator to you, and in this emptiness, you discover divine forces, absolute goodness.

All of this manifests around the entire mass of souls, which are inside, as if in some vast space, like a baby in the mother’s womb. This return to the best possible state is prepared for all of humanity.

Unfortunately, people will begin to feel it through suffering, which will involuntarily push them toward what are called “labor pains” There is no way around it; pressure is needed in order to give birth to the human being, to push him into this state.

Once we begin to feel it, we can consider the work of the Kabbalists practically complete. Experiencing such states, humanity will rush forward on its own.

What Gives a Person the Power of Life?

200.02Question: What is a “correct Hisaron” (lack of fulfillment)? Does it mean that a person feels bad?

Answer: No, a Hisaron can also feel good. When a person does not understand where something comes from and what it is, when he does not see the causes and consequences, the reasons, then of course it is bad. However, in general, if not that, then it is good to have a Hisaron.

There is no such notion as “bad” in Kabbalah. Everything depends on how you use it.

Imagine a person without a desire—that is it, he is dead. Look at how many people are depressed, how they suffer.

At the same time, people who have nothing, but their eyes are shining and the desired thing is ahead of them, this gives them a power of life. Do you think a person who has inner creativity would trade his “burning” for some mediocrity so he would just lie around doing nothing? No.

Thus, a lack, a sensation of aspiration and desire, when a goal is present, is always positive. When the goal is unknown, when you do not know what and how, then it eats you. This is bad. However, it is still better than callousness and indifference.

Work for the Sake of the Creator

938.01Question: An ox works under coercion, under the pressure of its owner. That is, the owner is effectively present in its life. How can we make the ten into such a factor that obligates us to move forward?

Answer: There are a few actions we can take for that. First, observe how the friends give each other strength, how they inspire one another, how they hold themselves on the path. In this way, we gradually share the bit of enthusiasm we each have with one another and keep moving forward.

Question: Can we make the ten, which is a visible factor in the work, also become an extension of the Creator, so that the Creator would be revealed in it like that owner?

Answer: No, the Creator does not do that and will not do that. Because then it would turn out that we are working for the Creator because we feel Him.

Question: But is the point not to work for the sake of the Creator?

Answer: The point is to work for the sake of the Creator because we want to give Him contentment.

Question: Can an ox reach a state where it works not out of coercion but because it wants to please the owner?

Answer: For that, several conditions must be fulfilled. The work must not be done under pressure from the Creator. A person must correctly build their desire toward the Creator, meaning to give contentment to the Creator, and they must be free in this. They must decide that their goal is to bring contentment to the Creator.

What Is a First Love For?

232.01Question: Why is one’s first love not realized? Why? What a feeling!

Answer: So you would always dream about it.

Question: About this kind of love?

Answer: About the very feeling of love, about this feeling. If you were to connect, you would have ruined this feeling. The Creator places it between people and it is in this spiritual form that you strive for it, but it is unattainable.

Question: So the Creator is saying, “Always remember it?”

Answer: Yes, it is in you somewhere.

Question: This feeling when you are ready to give up everything, forget about yourself, lose yourself in another?

Answer: Right.

Question: Is that what gets stuck in a person’s heart like a splinter and remains there forever?

Answer: Yes, everyone has it.

Question: Who do I love? Do I love this person at the time of first love?

Answer: No, you do not even see a person, actually. You are looking at them with the wrong eyes. You are pointed to some spark in a person that attracts you, and that is it. And you want to see this spark all the time.

Question: Is it so I would always look for this kind of love?

Answer: You do not even have to look for it; you are already hooked on it.

Question: Does this happen so I know that love exists?

Answer: Yes, so you know what longing is.

Question: And strive for it?

Answer: Yes, but, as a rule, no one marries their first love.

Question: Is there, as you say, the upper force behind this? Is the Creator behind all this?

Answer: Of course, it all goes according to the upper program! It is well thought out; this is how we get educated.

Question: Can we say that this means that the next sentence will be: “The Creator is love,” “God is love”? Is that what He wants to tell us?

Answer: In the end after you have lived one or more than one life and have accumulated several more such impressions from your first loves. Then you will feel what it truly is, “What is true love?”

Question: Then I will feel it was not about her, but all about the Creator?

Answer: Of course not about her. You did not even see her. They just put a spark in her you have been pursuing all along. So nothing is there.

Therefore, it is very, very rare that people meet for the first time (at school or somewhere else), fall in love, get married, have children, start a family, and so live out their lives. I have seen a few cases like this… I was always interested in watching them. As a rule, they have many children. And they somehow understand each other very, very clearly.

Comment: Yes, these are happy couples.

Answer: This is very rare.

Comment: It is some kind of gift from above.

My Response:: This is given so we realize that we need to seek eternal, upper, true love. Not man to man, or man to a party, or to the motherland. Only to the Creator. Through other people.

Comment: Through love for people, to love for the Creator.

My Response: Yes. Love for the Creator.

See the Creator through the Prism of Our World

423.02Question: What do the Kabbalists mean when they say: “Everything must begin and end with the Creator“?

Answer: It is said that everything must begin and end with the Creator because the Creator is the cause of everything that happens in me; since I include this entire universe, I feel it, it is imprinted in me.

Through everything that I feel—inanimate, vegetative, and animate nature and people—the Creator speaks to me and helps me tune myself so that through these sensations I can come to Him and sense Him.

If I act in this way, I begin to understand the language of the Creator, how He speaks to me through all the influences on me, through my inner qualities, and how I treat myself. It is precisely He who initially evokes all my sensations and realizations in me.

He makes me understand that He does this so that I would want to discover Him in everything, as the root cause of myself, my sensations, and thoughts, and then try to figure out from what I received from Him in my heart and mind how I can find Him through this picture. By sensing the entire picture, I perceive it as His dialogue with me.

This is how the Creator communicates with me, without hiding behind this picture, and I must evolve in order to be able to feel Him. After all, when you are talking to a small child who still does not know how to speak, he is kicking his arms and legs, looking at you, and not knowing how to understand you. But gradually, through such efforts, he begins to understand you more and more.

The same thing happens with us. Like a small child, we must “kick” with all our qualities and capabilities and try to understand through this picture that is constantly imprinted in us what He wants to tell us by this; we must penetrate through it with a penetrating vision and see the Creator.

Everything that happens around us resembles a mother who bends over a child and speaks to him, and he does not know how to react to it. This is exactly how we should feel in relation to the world, and then we will gradually enter into contact with the Creator.

Where Can You Find the Creator?

938.03Comment: I remember when I first came to you 21 years ago to make a film about Kabbalah. I expected to see all kinds of Kabbalistic symbols like red strings, holy water, and burning candles. I walked into your room, and there was nothing. I thought at the time: “There is nothing to film.”

It turned out that Kabbalah is not about “holy artifacts,” but rather about the levels of connection between people.

My Response: Indeed, the Creator is revealed between people, but only between those who have reached the next level of attainment and understanding. After all, Kabbalah speaks of what lies beyond our consciousness, beyond material perception.

That is why two ordinary people cannot perceive anything between them except the material world and its various problems. Only through proper connection can we gather into a special spiritual state where our connections begin to reveal the Creator, and the many variations of these connections begin to tell us about the Creator. That is how we are built.

Practically speaking, a group of ten people needs to come together, but not around a round table with crystal balls and burning candles. Those props are completely unnecessary. In proper connection with each other, people attune themselves to an altruistic relationship.

But it is not simple. The right kind of interconnection is achieved through studying Kabbalah and understanding the next inner stage of human development, above egoism, when each person rises “above themselves” in relation to their friends, and uses a special higher energy for this.

It may sound mystical, but it is not. This higher energy simply exists outside of us. The point is that the force in which we currently exist is an egoistic force of reception. There is an opposite, altruistic force, but it exists outside of us.

When we draw the altruistic force upon ourselves, and try to establish mutual altruistic relationships between us, then the higher force influences us, and alongside the natural egoistic connections between us, altruistic connections, which are unnatural for us, gradually emerge. These are called spiritual.

The proper interplay of egoistic and altruistic connections (like black and white intertwining in all vast metamorphoses) grants us the awareness of the Creator, the upper force.

At the same time, on the one hand we do not disappear as created beings because the egoistic force remains within us. On the other hand, we acquire the altruistic force and begin to perceive the Creator through it.

That is how He is revealed—in the correct connection between us.

Comment: You constantly say that our egoistic desires remain, and yet a contrary, altruistic structure is built over them. That is very hard for a person to imagine.

My Response: This is the unique and exalted state of a Kabbalist. He does not simply drift off somewhere unknowable, but alongside his egoistic perception of the world he also acquires an altruistic perception. Upon these two opposite forms of attainment, he builds himself between them, and there, in that fusion within himself, he discovers the Creator.
