“Mark Zuckerberg Is Surprised At The Extent Of The Opioid Problem”

In the News (CNBC): “Mark Zuckerberg is surprised at the extent of the opioid problem — but Facebook is full of illegal opioid marketing. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has said the scope of the opioid crisis was what surprised him most during his 2017 travels throughout the country.

“But all he had to do was look at Facebook to see how pervasive the marketing is for these powerful and addictive pain medications.

“Sellers here and overseas are using Facebook pages and videos to offer drugs that U.S. laws say require a prescription, CNBC has found.

“Searching on Facebook for the names of some of the most commonly prescribed pain medications pointed to multiple vendors selling Oxycodone, Hydrocodone, Percocet and other similar drugs.

“This illicit marketing persists three months after NBC News highlighted the problem, and weeks after President Donald Trump declared opioid addiction a public health emergency.”

My Comment: If Mark Zuckerberg is worried about opioids, he shouldn’t just do better to police his site.

As I’ve recently written in my article “The Solution to the Opioid Crisis Is More Opioids—of the Natural Kind,” the craving for opiates represents the craving for human connection. And the opioid crisis tells us exactly what we need to change in our society.

As director of the world’s largest social network, Zuckerberg could do a lot to facilitate positive human connections on a massive scale via the virtual world, as I’ve detailed in my September 27, 2017 open letter to him “How Facebook Can Actually ‘Bring the World Closer Together.'”

As Rabash writes (V2, letter 15), man is an egoist. If he studied #Kabbalah and left it, as he distances from it, he begins opposing it. The higher you were, the lower you fall. So, don’t be surprised at the many former friends now criticizing Kabbalah. It is a law of correction!

As Kabbalah predicted, #fascism is naturally rising in our time. But if we exert effort in educating the generation, it’s possible to turn fascism to its opposite—socialism. Not the Soviet kind, but one that arises consciously, as a result of educating society.

Two types of concealment: 1. Simple concealment—one senses and hence approves the Creator’s concealment, asks not for revelation but adhesion, thus gladdening the Creator. 2. Double concealment—one doesn’t sense that concealment is from the Creator, and hence cannot ask for help.

Our mind cannot understand how you can bestow to the Creator without receiving, since no movement is possible without profit. But this quality draws light, and then one already senses and understands the Creator. To draw the #light, one must exert, then despair & ask the Creator.

All creation comprises 1.Desire to bestow (light) & 2.Desire to enjoy (vessel). Changes are only possible in the vessel’s intention: to bestow for oneself or for the Creator. The filling of the vessel with #light happens as their intentions to enjoy for each other’s sakes align.

The Creator’s #revelation manifests through his alternating concealments and revelations—to discover that there’s no other force besides Him. No space free of Him. I am a black point from which this can be revealed. This state is called adhesion, the purpose of development.

The difficulty isn’t in caring only about the Creator instead of yourself, but feeling as if I’m leaving this whole world, but not sensing the Creator. I’d give up everything to unite with Him. So, most important is to achieve the sensation that the Creator fills the whole world.

Why Does Nature Punish Us? Part 3

laitman_763.3Question: Today “climate engineering” is developing rapidly. This means that instead of fighting for the preservation of the environment, people are trying to intervene in natural processes, and, with the help of advanced technologies, to manage the climate, cool the globe, change the structure of the atmosphere and the state of the oceans, and so on.

People try to restore balance in nature with the help of modern technology. Is this good for humanity, or conversely, is this a great danger?

Answer: Of course, we have to pay in this way for our wrong reaction, building earthquake-resistant homes and protecting ourselves from the blows of nature. However, this still will not help because we ourselves evoke these natural disasters through our wrong behavior.

We must understand that a person’s thoughts and desires are at the highest level of all the forces that exist in the universe. Therefore, just with our thoughts, desires, and intentions we inflict the main damage to nature.

Man is the bearer of the negative force in nature, since he is guided only by the force of reception. Therefore, we need to balance ourselves with the force of bestowal. In a natural way, every person acts in society trying to receive everything for himself. Yet, in accordance with this, we must develop an ability to give in ourselves. Then balance will be established between us and from humanity it will spread to the rest of nature.

Question: Let’s say, we begin treating each other well and there will be love and bestowal, complete harmony between all people and all nations, how can it stop volcanic eruption or a tsunami?

Answer: Our thoughts and desires are also forces of nature. Man is part of nature, the crown of its development. How are we different from all other parts of nature? We have science, intelligence and more developed feelings. Although these feelings are evil, they are more developed compared to animals, and because of this we are called man, human.

The only problem is that we do not use our forces correctly. We think that we can live as instinctively as animals, without reaching love for our neighbor, and without exploring our influence on the world. Yet, this is not right, because we belong to the human degree. And being human is first of all science, reason, and feelings, which elevate us to the very top of the pyramid.

It turns out that unlike all other levels of nature—inanimate, vegetative, and animate—that are instinctively included into one system called “nature,” man separates himself from it.

We are obliged to complement the system of nature through our participation, joining it together with all others. Due to the fact that we balance our feelings, mind, and the negative force of our egoism with the positive force, we will reach a good connection with all parts of creation.

The Way From Chaos To Harmony, Part 3

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: It is clear that all the disorder in our lives is caused by the fact that everyone thinks only of themselves. But how do you see a corrected, permanent, perfect state where everyone is in harmony?

Answer: Such a state actually exists in nature, but we do not see it. As it is written: “He who has eyes to see, let him see, and he who has ears to hear, let him hear.” Everyone judges in the measure of his own depravity and perceives the world arranged according to his egoistic reason and feeling. Therefore, we are not able to see how perfect nature is and we consider ourselves smarter than nature.

It turns out that we do not see the truth and are plunging into greater chaos all the time. Egoism grows bigger and bigger, and our ability to cope with it is melting in front of our eyes. The situation is becoming critical, and soon we will finally destroy humanity in nuclear world wars, as Kabbalists warn.

The only way out is to get to know the system of nature. We will either discover through suffering that nature is perfect and only we are spoiled, or we will begin to understand the system of nature through studying the wisdom of Kabbalah.

The power of bestowal, connection, and reciprocity reign in nature—the exact opposite to what a person lives on—that is, the power of receiving, personal domination, envy, and hatred.

Question: Where do you see mutual assistance and connection in nature?

Answer: We do not see it when we look at it with our own egoistic eyes. On the contrary, it seems to us that in nature there is a fierce struggle for existence where the strongest wins.

But if we look deeper, the question arises: where does life come from? This very life in which completely different opposing forces suddenly somehow miraculously complete each other and create all possible varieties of creatures: inanimate matter, plants, animals, and humans.

How is it possible that opposing forces wishing to destroy each other suddenly connect and even complete each other, sacrifice one for the sake of the other, because without this life is impossible. Where does it come from?

If you look more closely at nature, as, for example, bio-cybernetics does, which studies the systems existing in living organisms, you will see how one thing completes the other. All these systems operate on the basis of completely different forces, and it only seems to us in our faulty perception that everyone wants to swallow others and forcefully establish their power.

If it were so, then life would never be able to exist because it is based on bestowal, concessions, on my concern for someone who will then help me, and so generation after generation. This is completely different from what appears to our superficial glance.

Earthly Sciences And Freedom Of Choice

laitman_538Question: Is it possible to prove to a person that he is a slave to his own illusions?

Answer: If a person is in his illusions, he should not be touched. It is not that it is impossible to prove anything to him—it is not allowed! You should not go to a person and say: “You are a slave; you are a prisoner.”

He feels good. You have no right to upset him. However, if he comes to you and says: “I can’t take it anymore. I can’t breathe…,” then it is a different story.

Question: If it were possible to bring a course on the freedom of choice to schools or universities, would it be possible to prove this to students by showing them various scientific studies?

Answer: Only in a very limited way, depending on the level of development of the society, but not more: do not pull a person out of the state he is in.

The science of Kabbalah speaks about a person’s life in this world, how he is controlled by desires that are constantly evolving, etc. From this perspective you can explain everything. It is completely rational, realistic, correct, scientific, and here, there can be absolutely no contradictions or objections from the scientific or ordinary societies.

But as soon as you start talking about having to rise above egoism, problems start to arise. What does it mean: above egoism? As if it is in control of me? I do not see that it is; I do not feel that it is. And if it is in control and, at the same time, it also happens to be our nature apart from which nothing else exists, then how can I detach from it?

Remark: Several years ago, scientists conducted an experiment. They connected electrodes to a participant’s brain and asked questions that the subject had to respond to with a “yes” or “no” by pressing a corresponding button. It was shown that the response was formulated in the brain five to six seconds before it reached the person’s consciousness and he was able to press the button.

Answer: Naturally. An impulse and a command appear in the brain and only after that does the finger press the button through strictly mechanical control. The device used in the study was able to measure when the impulse appeared in the brain.

Question: That means that the desire appears within me five to six seconds prior to my even knowing about it. This proves that the individual has no freedom of choice. Is it worth investing in such research just to prove to people that decisions are made for them?

Answer: No one is making decisions! This occurs naturally in our body. You want to say that higher order signals are transmitted to an individual’s brain, which then develop within him, and then he carries them out? That is true. So what? All this is in nature!

Question: But this type of research could push humanity to the awareness that there is no freedom of choice and to the search for this freedom. Or not? You are a person of science; you don’t think that science will come to reveal the truth about the freedom of choice?

Answer: Science cannot prove this. It already hit a wall and is now in a state of crisis. Scientists themselves acknowledge this.
After all, science can only use what the egoistic individual who created this science possesses. And no more. Science exists only within the framework of human knowledge, within the framework of human nature.

Scientists simply calculate algorithms of their own egoistic tendencies, which they then apply to the world around them. Nothing more.

If we had a different nature, we would have different sciences. And physics and even mathematics would be different. We would see the world differently. In physics, chemistry, and biology there is nothing objective. It is all only relative to the individual.

Why was Einstein’s theory so revolutionary? Because he said that everything depends on the observer. And where is this observer? First, let us bring him to its original state, and then, from this state, we will see what actually exists in this world. After all, the initial state is a rise above egoism to the zero level.

This is the restriction (Tzimtzum) from which, according to Kabbalah, we begin our study of the world.

World History In The Light Of Kabbalah, Part 3

760_4Question: What is history if the past can be changed?

Answer: We do not change anything—not the past, present, or future. We simply view all of the states that we must go through, and change ourselves. This way it seems to us that changes are taking place in the world and everything else. But we are the only ones that change!

I look at the frames that are being played in front of me like on a film, and depending on my internal state, I see them as being completely different.

In other words, I am in a state where I look around and it seems to me that I see the world.

In reality, instead of the world, this is the simple upper Light.

The things I observe on the background of the upper Light are actually being seen inside of me. All of the pictures that I seem to observe on the outside are formed inside of my brain.

Every person has his own picture depending on his state. That is, all of the parameters are set inside of me: Reshimot (spiritual informational data) and all my possible data. According to my development, I depict all of these pictures within me on the background of the upper world.

So what is happening in reality?

On one hand, I have bad desires. On the other hand, there is the Light—good qualities. And between them is the so-called world, where I exist and seem to perceive its images, and where my intentions are found.

Therefore, the world has no form. All of this is depicted inside of us. Moreover, all of this is depicted inside every one of us or only inside of me. I can say, “You don’t exist, you exist only in my internal perception.”

The Way From Chaos To Harmony, Part 2

Laitman_117Question: The Torah tells us that at first there was darkness and chaos from which life was later created. How can harmony arise from chaos?

Answer: All this is said only in relation to man. And even if it seems as though we are talking about the periods of evolution that ostensibly took place before the appearance of man, this is wrong. Evolution makes sense only with the inclusion of a person who is beginning to use the whole world, and all changes occur only with respect to him

Only after the creation of consciousness and with respect to it can we talk about the creation of the world, the universe, the planet Earth, all systems, and humanity. Before the appearance of man, there seemed to be nothing. And when we are talking about darkness and chaos, they also exist only in relation to man because his consciousness is distorted, that is, opposed to the ideal system we exist in.

A person does not understand or feel this system, that is, he does not perceive it either in mind or heart. He sees the reality projected by his faulty qualities against the background of an immutable and perfect world.

He does not see the upper, spiritual world or the ideal system, but sees himself with respect to this system; that is, he sees the difference between the one and the other, between the qualities of man and the qualities of nature. Therefore, it seems to him that the world is dark and disorderly.

All of nature exhibits bestowal, love, connection, completing each other, whereas the qualities of man are the exact opposite: receiving, disorder, and the inability to connect with others and complete them. Everyone acts guided by their own benefit to the detriment of others, and therefore sees disorder in the world.

Disorder is a quality arising from the nature of man, from his egoism.

After all, if everyone thinks about himself and is guided by his own benefit, without taking others into account, he stops the entire system, like a faulty gear.

Instead of connecting with the rest and turning together like a working clock, everyone spins in his own direction, as he pleases. As a result, we resist each other, break our gears, and the whole mechanism almost fails to work.

There is another system that punishes and corrects, showing how bad we feel because of this egoistic attitude. Therefore, out of hopelessness, we begin little by little to take each other into account. Although these mutual considerations are also egoistic because the main thing for me is my own good, I do take the others into account only when necessary. It turns out, we somehow manage to exist but our lives are full of suffering and chaos. Chaos and disorder in our lives are the result of everyone being controlled by the power of their own egoism and thinking only about their own good rather than the benefit of the common system. This is the main reason for the disorder that manifests in all areas of our lives.
