The End Of The Olympic Games

laitman_600_02Comment: The Paralympics, the Olympics for the disabled, began right after the Olympics in Brazil. For the first time in the 56 years since these games began only 12% of the tickets were sold (BBC). The Paralympics were moved from the sports halls to open fields so that people wouldn’t have to pay. Many disabled sportsmen from different countries could not come to the games because their travel expenses were not paid.

Answer: Unfortunately, the Olympics have exhausted themselves. The sportsmen gather in order to beat each other. These aren’t Olympic games anymore; it isn’t a sports festival nor a celebration of man’s physical achievements. Politics, chemistry, and drugs have deeply penetrated the sports because the goal is now victory at any cost and not the actual cooperation and sportsmanship itself. Instead of being a festival of friendship, the Olympics have turned into a war! This is the reason that many don’t want to be involved in it anymore.

Comment: Even if we take the Paralympics as an example, the attitude toward these games has always been of compassion and mercy and people used to come to watch the games.

Answer: Today, there is no compassion or mercy. Once drugs and other additives have entered sports, they are no longer a sport but rather a competition between chemists, and this brought the end of it all.

Question: What kind of sport do you support?

Answer: I am totally for clean sports, when the sportsmen are not bought and are not paid. Sports should be for amateurs. It shouldn’t be a political event.

But humanity will not return to this sort of event in any form because it advances according to its growing egoism, and so the Olympics have exhausted themselves. The human ego will not let us hold such an event as a festival or a celebration. Fights and rough and tough competitions will not impress the audience.  Eventually every branch of sports will come to an end, even soccer, because it is impossible to win a victory in sports with money.

Comment: Your predictions are not very optimistic.

Answer: These were my predictions even 15-20 years ago and they are even more relevant today. Some are actually beginning to come true today.

The European Union Is “Creaking”

Laitman_419Question: The European Union is “creaking” again following a referendum in Italy that is liable, as experts warn, to insert a jolt into the entire block.

Is the European Union really liable to break up as some of the experts have predicted?

Answer: The European Union already broke up a while ago; they just can’t formally allow themselves to admit this to the world. In any case, the interior is not functioning at all; nothing is left of the union!

The heads of the union are trying to do something, but the artificial formation is done with aggressive means to not allow the organization to break up and not drop Europe into the “depths,” to enter into all kinds of destructive problems.

Contrary to common sense, the Europeans are putting themselves into a big problem with refugees who are now beginning to “tear Europe to pieces,” like predatory animals who devour their prey.

So a good future is not expected for Europe. Ultimately tourism to Europe will cease, and this is the source of income and the largest basis for production in which most of its inhabitants work. The tourism industry is gradually waning. This is felt especially in France. During the past year a “dive” of 12% was measured in the tourism department; this is a significant statistic.

People have stopped traveling to these nations. A few more acts of terrorism and tourism will cease completely, just as it did in Turkey and Egypt.

And if another plane “falls” or something else happens…today this may not be a problem, but the Europeans are not yet ready psychologically to monitor and maintain their security.

Comment: It seems that the Germans are beginning to take quite strict measures.

Answer: Nothing will help. It is necessary to re-educate the population.

So I don’t expect a good future for Europe. Italy announced that as far as it seems, it will go on Brexit.

This is an absolutely natural process and after it the rest of the nations will also do this, and perhaps this will wake the Europeans up a bit. They will understand that the union is necessary; this is the direction toward which nature is pushing us. They will understand that all the peoples of Europe, including the immigrants, must achieve union.

But according to what formula will they reach union? Nobody knows. There is only one formula and it is described in the wisdom of Kabbalah: when faced with all of the problems, they can be overcome through the connection between us.

It is possible to do this only according to the method of connection described in the ancient books of Kabbalah; human nature has not changed much since then. We have reached the present situation in order to begin to use the method of connection.

Question: Even though this truth was known to everyone, “And you shall love your friend as yourself” (Leviticus 19:18)?

Answer: Yes, but until now we didn’t require it, but today we need it.

I hope that the Europeans and all of us will be able to understand this, that we will want to apply this method in every way, and that we will help in doing this.

“Women On Top”

laitman_259_02In the News (Foreign Policy): “For the first time in history, the inner chambers of global leadership may go genuinely coed. …

“Pundits who dare to prognosticate over whether these leaders will each bring a distinctive, somehow more female approach to matters of war and peace, trade, policing, or public welfare do so at their peril. They risk stepping in a minefield of stereotypes and preconceptions that history’s shortlist of female heads of major states — Golda Meir, Margaret Thatcher, Indira Gandhi, and Benazir Bhutto — have already defied. But research and theory suggest that once women attain a loosely defined “critical mass” of representation — generally accepted as between 20 and 30 percent — within institutions and decisional bodies, their influence grows perceptibly. This idea originated with Harvard Business School professor Rosabeth Moss Kanter, who in her seminal 1977 article, “Some Effects of Proportions on Group Life: Skewed Sex Ratios and Responses to Token Women,” postulated that when women exceed one-third of a group they can form coalitions, provide mutual support, and reshape the group’s overall culture. The research suggests that the relatively sudden potential presence of a critical mass — a collective of women — simultaneously leading some of the West’s most powerful countries and institutions has the potential to reshape at least certain aspects of how global business gets done. …

“Amid these challenges, it is tempting to hope — and there is some evidence to indicate — that this cohort of female leaders may turn to one another as a source of solidarity, forging effective partnerships that translate into policy results. Betsy Polk and Maggie Ellis Chotas have written a book arguing that when women team up professionally they can achieve greater confidence, flexibility, and accountability than is attainable in other working relationships. Across multiple academic disciplines, research confirms that women tend to be more open to teamwork than men. A study conducted by the National Bureau of Economic Research confirmed that women are more amenable to collaboration, partly because they tend to underestimate their abilities and overrate those of peers, whereas men are more likely to conclude that they can best get ahead by working on their own. A psychological study conducted by University of Toronto scholars concluded that women favor teamwork whereas men prefer hierarchy. In the U.S. Senate, where there are more women than ever before — 20, to be exact — many legislators have noted that cooperation among women has delivered some of the few accomplishments of a largely polarized and hamstrung
Congress, including the 2013 deal that ended the third-longest government shutdown in history. In a 2013 ABC News interview, Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) credited Senate women with surmounting an ‘us-against-them’ mentality saying: ‘I think by nature we are less confrontational and more collaborative…. We actually work together, Republicans and Democrats, and women, to try to look at solving the problem rather than just going political points.’

“Whether the impetus toward collaboration is innately stronger among women, or the ephemeral product of an empathy-driven outreach among those who identify with other members of a historically marginalized group, may not matter … If a posse of female leaders proves even marginally better at communicating, coordinating, and compromising with one another, even for a short while, the international dividends could be great. …

“Over more than 20 years, the critical mass theory of women’s leadership has been debated by scholars and analysts and served as the basis for implementing gender-based quotas and affirmative action programs. In the coming years, our front pages may tell us more than all the theories about whether and what difference having women at the top really makes.”

My Comment: Women are undoubtedly more inclined to teamwork, mutual support, and the aspiration to reach agreement instead of conflicts than men are.

But it is the “iron lady” who reaches the top, and what is typical of women who hold lower positions is totally atypical of those who reach the highest positions. They are “real men” and have all the typical characteristics of men: authoritative, tough, etc.

There may be a short matriarchal period, but then men will still have to engage in correcting their ego including the female part.

A Deal With The Creator

laitman_549_01Question: Can we bargain with the Creator and close a deal with Him?

Answer: Of course, the deals that we close with the Creator are called Arvut (Mutual Guarantee). It is as if each of us says to the Creator: “You are for me and I am for You; I will do everything that You ask of me and You will fulfill my requests.”

Thus, consciously or subconsciously we present the Creator with a condition and advance, there is no other choice.

A person who lives in this world subconsciously makes an agreement with the Creator at any given moment, whether he wants to or not. But if he understands that there is a goal to creation and there is a way to achieve it, he is ready to advance and wants the Creator to help him, and then he already consciously makes an agreement with the Creator.

Question: Does this mean that “You are for me and I am for You” also exists in spirituality?

Answer: Of course, because the wisdom of Kabbalah is a wisdom, which explains how to receive everything there is from the Creator in the correct and unlimited way. Kabbalists are, in fact, the greatest egoists since they want to attain the world of infinity, to be filled with the Light of Infinity, to live forever in wholeness with perfect filling, in absolute attainment. This is the expression of the greatest ego. We just need to know how we can fill it, and therefore our method is called the wisdom of Kabbalah, the wisdom of receiving, the wisdom of filling.

Question: What is the cost of this filling? How can we bribe the Creator in order to reach this state?

Answer: The only way to bribe the Creator is by getting close to Him. Being close to the Creator in spirituality means becoming equal to His attributes.

History Of Humanity – A Look Inside, Part 4

Laitman_421_01The Babylonian exile lasted exactly 70 years. 70 years corresponds to the full cycle of spiritual development that is required to become aware of the exile. The end of the exile is always revealed as a condition: either this will be the place of your burial, or you unite just like at Mount Sinai.

Only at Mount Sinai, it was at the request of the Creator to celebrate the Egyptian exile and escape from Pharaoh, and in Babylon it was thanks to Haman and Mordecai. Mordecai was a prophet and knew that without Haman he would not be able to do anything with the Jews. Haman played the role of the guard dog that assembled the Jews from all 127 countries of the Babylonian kingdom into one crowd.

So they were able to reach unity, return to the land of Israel, and start building the Second Temple. But this unity wasn’t as strong as during the times of the First Temple. It wasn’t their fault; they simply couldn’t do more since they brought additional egoism from the exile.

Besides, this had to happen this way according to the program of the upper system, because the destructions of the First and Second Temples correspond to two stages of shattering of desires in the world of Nekudim. The material development of our world is a direct mechanical consequence of the processes in the spiritual world.

Therefore, the Second Temple didn’t have many attributes of the First Temple. The Second Temple was on the level of Mochin de Neshama, much lower than the First Temple that reached the level of Mochin de Haya. This is a huge difference.

Mochin de Haya is the revelation of the Creator, and Mochin de Neshama is revelation of the relationship of the Creator to the creatures. It is like knowing a person himself, or receive parcels with presents from him sometimes.

Nevertheless, the Second Temple was a very big achievement. Actually, everything has its positive side. They received an opportunity to spread their spiritual knowledge and to write books about it precisely because they didn’t reach the level of Mochin de Haya. This wasn’t the case in the days of the First Temple.

There were many more Kabbalists engaged in spiritual attainment in the days of the Second Temple. The First Temple was like an academy that had only few dozen academics, and the Second Temple was like a normal university, with lower levels, but with thousands of students studying in it.

These thousands of “ordinary” Kabbalists have actually been more helpful to us because they could explain everything in the Mishnah and Talmud, and they wrote many commentaries and books. They allowed themselves to write about it because the attainment came down from the height of the deepest spiritual mysteries and approached the material world.

From the moment the Second Temple was built, it immediately began to crumble because it wasn’t the ultimate goal of development. The clock continued to tick, counting the seconds on the axis of time and leading us to the final point of the path. After all, the ultimate purpose of creation was incorporated in the initial plan and everything was predetermined.

It was clear that the Second Temple is also destined to collapse. However, Kabbalists fought to prevent this destruction, as they did in the days of the First Temple. They fought against people’s fall from the spiritual level and against all of those who welcomed Greek and Roman dignitaries in Israel. Inside the people of Israel there were terrible wars between the Jews.

Kabbalists were appealing to people, urging them to unite. Why did they fight for unity if they knew in advance that the Temple would collapse? The fact is that our work is to go by faith above reason. I don’t want to know what will be in the end in order to fold my hands and wait till the Temple falls. I must work and fight every moment to preserve the sanctity, and whatever will be, will be.

Even if I should die, I must keep sanctity as long as possible. Therefore, there were big wars to protect the Temple. After all, if the Kabbalists resigned to the fact that it will inevitably be destroyed, it would be a great crime since our work must be in faith above reason.

It’s like a sick person’s duty is to go to the doctor, take life-saving medicine from him and drink it, and then thank the Creator for his recovery. This is not clear to an ordinary person.

Today as well, people don’t understand that we need to build our life in sanctity without waiting for when it will happen by itself. This work is above reason and in our time, even inside it.

New Life #754 – Laziness And Effort

New Life #754 – Laziness And Effort
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Nitzah Mazoz

Summary

Our nature is a desire for pleasure. We are attracted to pleasure and run away from suffering.

In disseminating the wisdom of Kabbalah, I don’t feel effort or fatigue because the energy and power to act in a particular direction are the result of the importance that it has in my eyes. The importance of an idea like this or another depends on the value that the environment provides for it. The force of laziness stops a person from doing something unnecessary and causes him to clarify whether it is worthwhile to do it or not according to the equation: energy – laziness = feasibility.

In general, there is no success in anything without effort. Effort is a prerequisite for success because through it an individual builds tools. If a person were given something without his having exerted effort, he would not know how to enjoy it because we have pleasure only according to the amount that we invest in it.

“A year of work is sweet” means that someone who makes an effort to earn his bread finds more pleasure in it than someone who doesn’t make an effort.
