A False Prophet In A Person

laitman_610_2Torah, Deuteronomy, 18:19 – 18:20: And it will be, that whoever does not hearken to My words that he speaks in My name, I will exact [it] of him. But the prophet who intentionally speaks a word in My name, which I did not command him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die.

Everything depends on the desires that suddenly appear in us. Even during those great days when people were in the attainment of the Creator, a person could be a great saint one moment and a great sinner the next. Therefore, while reading the Torah, it is necessary to know exactly whom the Creator addresses. After all, everything happens within one person.

The Torah is written for each one individually and each of us should carve it on his heart, meaning on all his desires.

Question: Why does the prophet suddenly begin to speak in the name of other gods?

Answer: Of course, there is a difference whether or not he intentionally speaks in the name of the Creator or if he was framed and fell. It could be that egoism has suddenly exploded in him and he can’t stay on the high level of bestowal, or he moved from it due to some other reasons.

It is written, that he “speaks a word in My name, which I did not command him to speak…” Obviously, if he fell into an egoistic state, he will do everything to justify himself and to look like righteous to himself and to others. There were many such false prophets.

Don’t Be Afraid To Make A Mistake

laitman_628_2Torah, Deuteronomy, 18:21 – 18:22: Now if you say to yourself, “How will we know the word that the Lord did not speak?” If the prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, and the thing does not occur and does not come about, that is the thing the Lord did not speak. The prophet has spoken it wantonly; you shall not be afraid of him.

If you obey the prophet and he says something false, don’t be afraid to make a mistake, because everything you take from him, as if coming from the Creator, although the Creator didn’t say that, won’t harm you at all and won’t be recorded on your account.

There will be a separate scrutiny with the prophet. We also must not forget that all this happens in one person.

Question: Does it mean that the fact that a person follows a false prophet it is not considered a sin?

Answer: Suppose the prophet is wrong because he has lost a certain connection with the Creator. Perhaps this is done by the Creator deliberately in order to place the people in a particular situation and teach them something.

In other words, all the qualities of a person hear and feel the mind that says that for the sake of the Creator, a person should do so and so. If later it turns out that it was wrong, then the person is not at fault because this was a direction from above.

Advancing Through Peace, Not War

Dr. Michael LaitmanWhen you approach a city to wage war against it, you shall propose peace to it. And it will be, if it responds to you with peace, and it opens up to you, then it will be, [that] all the people found therein shall become tributary to you, and they shall serve you. (Torah, Devarim, Shoftim 20:10-11)

If you have desires which you can cover with an intention to bestow, then there is no need to fight them.

In general, one should not fight with the desires, but only with the intentions. This war ends if you turn them from the intention, “for my own sake” to the intention, “for the sake of others”. Everything depends on the influence of the environment and development of the individual.

Question: When I offer peace to a desire, does it mean that it is ready to accept the intention to bestow?

Answer: Yes. From a psychological point of view, we always need to start with this and not break ourselves. If it is possible to gently move to a different level of our inner work in understanding, in bestowal, in concern for external factors, then our victory is in this.

Everything depends on how you study, how you disseminate, how connected you are with friends. This is how you advance.

Our progress, for the most part, is not actualized through war. It is not necessary to constantly be in a state of stress. Of course, it is not to say that there may not be some battling, but it has to be controlled and appropriate. On one hand, never relent, because your responsibility is only to engage in correction. On the other hand, all intentions and desires that arise in you, need to be reframed with help from the Light, the upper force.

That is, you need to begin passing such Light, such thoughts and actions through them that would enable you, very gently but inevitably, form a connection with the Creator above them and to understand that they come from only one source, and you should only connect to that source through them. Only then all of them will become yours and will obey you. This is the challenge of our lives.

Comment: This is always very difficult because basically, you are changing your nature and it is somewhat of a forced process.

Answer: Everything depends on the intention of a person. Let us say, right now you need to take a 40 lbs package somewhere. It is not easy to do it, it is hard. But if you need to bring it to your beloved little grandchild, who needs it very much, then it becomes much easier, quickly you find the strength. Because everything depends on desire, goal, and intention.

Comment: However, the intention is given from above. That means it is necessary to ask for it.

Answer: Of course, but you have to demonstrate persistence in this.

Comment: The example with the grandchild is clear to me, but with the Creator it is more complicated.

Answer: Why is it more complicated? If everything in the world occurs only in order to turn you to Him, then there is nothing complicated. Imagine for yourself that you receive everything from Him and only in order to turn toward Him.

He is very jealous and will do everything in order to get you to pay attention to Him. It is a terrible jealousy, almost impossible to describe! In every minor detail! In whatever it is! And only when there is enough attention from you (no more and no less), then everything is well.

That being said, we are not talking about performing mechanical actions, such as making a blessing before a meal. We are talking about a person  who changes his attitude and reveals the Creator thanks to His nudges.

Direction toward Him must not only be in every action, but in every breath, in every glance, in everything, so that every cell, every fiber, yearns toward its source.

Writing The Torah On The Walls Of The Heart

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What does it mean to write the Torah on the walls of your heart?

Answer: The walls of the heart are the most evil, stony desires. That is why it is allegorically written that the Torah has to be written not on the internal, softer part of the heart, but on the external part.

To write means that all changes that we have to undergo and that are described in the Torah have to be reflected on our general egoistic desire called “our heart.” In that way, we gradually correct ourselves and the hearts that were at least partly involved in this movement.

“Life For Life, Eye For Eye”

Laitman_514_02Torah, Deuteronomy 19:21: You shall not have pity: life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.

A person must destroy the enemies, meaning his egoistic desires, that he has to correct with the help of the Upper Light, either to the desire to bestow or to the action of bestowal. There can be no concessions.

Each one must completely remake his egoism, while clearly, really feeling it in himself and applying a maximum amount of effort to it. A person shouldn’t take into account his egoistic weaknesses.

It is written, “life for life, eye for eye.” It means that you have to turn all the desires into the opposite ones and gain spiritual life instead of the egoistic one. However, it doesn’t mean that you separate from it, it just moves into a different phase, for the sake of a different ideal. Yet, you continue to exist in the material world.

Most people think that they are obliged to die and disappear from this life. It isn’t so! It is written, “You shall see your world during your lifetime in this world.” After all, we need to add to the sense of the material world, the sense of the upper world.

Question: Why it is written “life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot”? Why exactly are these parts mentioned?

Answer: Because these are the most important parts of the spiritual Partzuf called soul. The soul is divided into three parts: head, body, and limbs. Each of them has its parts. The head portion is located in every organ of the body and vice versa, each organ of the body is connected to the head part.

The eye is an organ through which you see, investigate, exist, and attain. Teeth are like millstones that grind all the data that comes to you, all your desires. A hand is also an attainment, just on the different level than an eye. And a foot symbolizes movement forward. These are the most important parts of our soul that has the same structure as a physical body.

A Book That Proved To Be Correct For Thousands Of Years

laitman_527_07Question: Can we can count on the fact that the Torah we are reading today is authentic? Isn’t it distorted by different translations and publications? Who wrote it? Was it written by certain authors?

Answer: There is no argument about that. Everything is absolutely accurate. Even Kabbalists who attain the upper world today see that the Torah describes the structures and the mutual cooperation of all of the elements in the upper world, which means the systems that manage us and all of creation, including the upper one.

The Torah is not about people, about historical events, or geographical locations, but only about the interaction between the elements of the upper forces that eventually depict and present on our internal screens a kind of an existence that drives a person toward correction.

The Torah tells us how the absolute and eternal system—which includes the beginning and the end of the whole of creation—is arranged, and tells us about how we develop inside of it from the beginning of creation to its end.

There cannot be any additions or anything that is redundant in these descriptions. It always exists the way that it is. In every generation, Kabbalists who study the Torah go over it again and again, and discover to what degree this system is absolute.

The Torah was written by Moses during the forty years of wandering in the Sinai Desert.

After the construction of the two Temples, Kabbalists came along who wrote books on a different level, a lower one that was adapted to the conditions in their generation. In their books, they conveyed the states they attained.

Thus, during the time of the First Temple, the book of Prophets was written, and closer to the time of the Second Temple, Holy Scriptures (Ktuvim) were written, but they do not nullify the Torah in any way. It is a law, and it remains above all other books. Its practical uses with regard to the lower level were actually presented by the explanations in the Prophets and Scriptures.

Together, they are called the Tanakh (Torah, Prophets, and Scriptures) and were written from a very high level of attainment from the complete knowledge of the system. This is the reason that everything that is said about them is absolutely accurate and has proven to be correct for thousands of years.

We Should Know How To Read The Torah

laitman_209Question: What is the tradition of the oral law?

Answer: The oral Torah explains the written Torah, which only Kabbalists can understand according to their level of spiritual attainment.

We should know how to read the Torah, and in order to do so, we must learn Hebrew because all of the words are terribly distorted by translation. The letters that make up the word have a very deep meaning: their order, sound, the similarity or difference between them, and so on. Every letter is made of several elements that indicate certain forces of nature, whether positive or negative, that operate horizontally or vertically by drawing toward them or by being distant. This is the reason that writing the letters is a special art.

Eventually, a person begins to understand that there is an encoded description of consecutive spiritual acts before him, not an ordinary text.

In Hebrew, every letter is a symbol, a unique signal with many elements that are connected in a special way and convey information, a bit of concrete information that contains the whole spiritual structure inside it.

It is possible to simply read Kabbalah books, and it is possible to read them in great depth and penetrate the internal meaning. When a person enters the text, he travels through it until he understands everything that happens in it and the flow of the internal information. It is a totally different attainment of the Torah, and this is actually what is called “secret” to a certain degree.

Therefore, the oral Torah is the Torah that is forbidden to be taught. The concept of forbidden refers to the fact that it is impossible since a person will understand nothing before he is a Kabbalist. On the other hand, there is no need to understand anything in the wisdom of Kabbalah. In the wisdom of Kabbalah, everything is allowed—everything is for a person, for his sake.

The Manifestation Of Unintentional Desires

laitman_571_03The Torah, Deuteronomy 19:06: Lest the avenger of the blood pursue the killer, while his heart is hot, and overtake him, because the way is long, and he strikes him to death, whereas he was not deserving of death, for he had not hated him in times past.

The cities of refuge should be within reach, with good roads and with a good understanding of where to run. A person must be granted such a place.

The Torah doesn’t speak about people but about the inner world of a person, when he feels that he has unbiased, unintentional desires that drag him down to egoism and he can do nothing with them because he doesn’t control them; the Creator does.

This is exactly how the Creator manifests these desires in him. Although in principle, they are good and normal, suddenly they become deadly, kill the soul of a person, don’t allow him to connect with others, and don’t allow him to get closer and reveal the Creator within himself. This way the Creator reveals these desires to him, the involuntary, unintentional killers of his soul, and he needs to correct them.

Therefore, in the cities of refuge he corrects the desires that were revealed in him as deadly, while previously he couldn’t identify their egoistic intentions. He will be free from them in seven years, and after that it is forbidden to pursue him because he corrected his desires.

Thus, he should treat all his thoughts and motives very reasonably, in a weighted manner, understanding that everything comes only from the Creator. It is He who revealed in a person such depths of egoism that a person himself wouldn’t be able to reveal. Therefore, he sends them to the “occupation” zone where he examines and corrects them, and after a certain time of measured influence of the Upper Light on these desires, on the seventh year, he leaves the isolation zone.

There are the Light of bestowal and the Light of reception in this system, and they, by interacting with each other, play with a person and correct him more and more so that he becomes similar to the Creator. The Surrounding Light (Ohr Makif) descends upon all our desires and they begin to change gradually under its influence, especially in the cities of refuge because the concentration of the desire to be corrected in these places, meaning in these desires that the Creator reveals in a person, is very strong.

The Torah, A Single Line Of One Commandment

laitman_527_04The Torah is one continuous sentence that begins from the beginning of creation in its initial state (the desire of something from nothing) and ends when that desire becomes equal to the Creator in size and attributes. It is all a single line of one commandment.

Question: Who divided it into words, expressions, and sentences?

Answer: It was done by Kabbalists right after Moses wrote the Torah as one undivided text. In order for us to understand the specific actions that we must perform, this single program was divided into smaller sub-programs: sentences, words, letters, and even parts of letters, up to dots. It is only by such a consistent, discrete method that we can correct ourselves.

When we open the Torah scroll, we can see that there are no punctuation marks and that, in fact, the words practically are fused together. Only a person who understands the text is able to separate them from each other.

laitman_234Question: Why do you teach the Torah on the Internet to everyone if it is so hard to understand?

Answer: Everyone should know the Torah and yearn to fulfill it because everyone must reach the level of Moses.

On the other hand, corporeal differences such as nationality, race, color, or sex are meaningless. A person’s soul does not reflect his unique corporeal characteristics in any way, and it makes no difference what his religion, nationality, culture, and so on are.
