The Concealed Meaning Of The Torah

laitman_209Question: Is there a concealed meaning according to the Kabbalistic perspective of the murders and atrocities described in the Torah, which seemingly take place according to the Creator’s command?

Answer: Yes. The meaning of murders mentioned in the Torah is that we must kill the egoistic attributes inside us. This is the only thing it refers to, not to people.

The Torah only tells us about what a person does internally, both good and evil. Therefore, the wisdom of Kabbalah is called the internal part of the Torah.

“You Shall Appoint For Yourself Judges And Officers”

laitman_571_06The Torah, Deuteronomy, 16:18: You shall appoint for yourself judges and officers in all your towns which the Lord your God is giving you….

The Creator purposefully erected gates through which one can penetrate into the spiritual world. And we have to put judges and officers so they will direct us and control our animalistic (corporeal) state.

They form the animalistic essence of a person and gradually elevate him; otherwise, we would not be able to pass through the gates of elevation.

A person himself has to appoint judges for himself because it is thanks to this that he begins to understand what steps he has to ascend.

The Torah Does Not Conceal Anything

laitman_559Question: Why does the Torah conceal secrets that are so essential to manage in this complicated world?

Answer: The Torah doesn’t conceal anything. A person doesn’t need to know more than he does; otherwise, he may become confused and do something silly. If he wants to understand more, he must study the wisdom of Kabbalah regularly.

There are no prohibitions regarding the study, only internal, natural, psychological prohibitions. In a person’s head and heart, there are safety valves that do not allow him to see or know what actually is happening in this world.

A person only sees the external wrapping of it. And the deeper internality he cannot know so he will not touch it with his “dirty hands.” Therefore, he must first engage in the study and show himself and the world that he is ready for a right, good, and sensible action. And to that extent, he can advance.

What Is The Difference Between The Bible And The Torah?

laitman_032_06Question: What is the difference between the Bible, the Torah, and the Pentateuch ?

Answer: The Torah was written 3,100 years ago during the journey of the children of Israel from Egypt through the wilderness to the land of Israel. The journey of the Jews in the wilderness lasted forty years. The sacred Torah is the only copy and cannot be changed; it is the main book of the wisdom of Kabbalah.

The Bible (from the Greek word “Biblia” meaning book, scroll, paper), and other books in a similar spirit with different names, were created on the basis of the Torah and moved through a system of correction that is useful only for particular people.

That is also what happened among the Jews in the ancient land of Israel 2,500 years ago, as well as after the destruction of Israel 2,000 years ago.

As a result, a free translation of certain passages, some additional characters were introduced in part to the Torah, and changed, canceled, and revised its laws and requirements. In general, it became the Bible and from there to a free reading.

To date, all of the historical and archaeological evidence, like the discoveries from the Qumran caves, confirms the true and original text of the Bible.

It is very important to maintain the authenticity of the true book which has become the fundamental book of humanity, establishing its social and family laws, rules, and education.

When Kabbalists read the Torah, they understand why every symbol, every letter, and every word was written, why they are expressed in this manner, and why they follow one after another in its specific form because the Torah is a code and not merely a sequence of letters.

Just as the language of a computer program is recorded using particular symbols, the Torah was also written using symbols. It is forbidden to change anything in it because otherwise everything will be lost; the entire process would be conducted differently.

In a clear and precise manner, the text in the Torah conveys the descent of the Upper Light onto the desire that was created by the Light and the sequence through which the Light brings the desire to resemble and become identical with it. The book speaks only about this.

Two Levels Of The Torah

laitman_555Question: If Moses wrote the Torah, why is it said that the Creator looked into the Torah at the time He created the worlds?

Answer: In fact, the Torah is the movement of the desire that was created opposite of the Creator toward complete resemblance to Him.

So when the Creator “decided” to create the creature, as we say in corporeal language, He first had to create it as His opposite as well as to create a complete mechanism through which the creature would move toward resembling the Creator.

With this intention, He seemingly wrote the Torah, a system of commands and instructions that must be realized by the desire that was created by Him. That is how He brings the desire He created to greater and greater resemblance with Him. Moses wrote the Torah himself, but not from the point of view of management by the Creator because that Torah remains in the head of the world of Ein Sof (Infinity).

For Moses, it was recorded in the head of the world of Atzilut as an activity. So it is talking about the same thing, but on different levels.

The Main Thing Is Not To Remain Indifferent

laitman_527_07Question: From the perspective of the wisdom of Kabbalah, is there any sense in millions of people reading the Torah? Does the Ohr Makif (Surrounding Light) work on them, or is this useless?

Answer: People receive and perceive either positive influences or negative influences from Kabbalists according to the manner in which they relate to them, in a good or hostile form.

Both a positive and a negative attitude are beneficial; the main thing is not to remain indifferent.

Therefore, it is preferable to relate to the wisdom of Kabbalah negatively than to remain indifferent because, in spite of everything, a person arouses negative forces this way that will lead him forward, even though in the opposite direction, and this road may go on for a few centuries, but he will discern his way back.

If a person does not react, but simply walks in place, even though he is not moving further away, there is no way of knowing when he will wise up. Therefore, it is useful to do something in any case.

Baal HaSulam writes that the movement of a person is independent of whether he yearns for the Creator or denies His existence because both the one force and the other force, in principle, act in the same direction.

You Shall Set Up Judges For Yourself

laitman_571_08Torah, Deuteronomy 16:18: You shall set up judges and law enforcement officials for yourself in all your cities that the Lord, your God, is giving you, for your tribes, and they shall judge the people [with] righteous judgment.

Question: What is the role of the overseers?

Answer: The entire Torah speaks about the way to rise above our egoistic nature and to become an altruist with love of the creatures and through them with love of the Creator.

If I want to change, I need overseers, assistants, and teachers who would help me to rise above myself.

The judges, help, persuade, and pressure me; that is, they do everything they can because I have become my own enemy since egoism begins to manifest within me and I relate to it as an enemy. In order to cope with it, I need a powerful environment.

Therefore, it is written: set up judges, overseers, and helpers for yourself at all the gates through which you enter and exit, ascend to the Creator and descend from Him, by the degrees of the spiritual ladder according to the level of bestowal, love of others, and so on. You must regulate all of it and hold it in your hands.

Comment: This contradicts material logic that you personally set up supervisors for yourself and they are not placed above you by someone else!

Answer: The fact is that this is a voluntary path where a person builds himself. Of course, he asks for help from above, turns to the Creator, the positive force of nature, because he himself is totally negative, but he does this independently.

If he understands that everything depends on the correct environment, then he needs to build the environment himself. He does it with the help of the upper force, but through his efforts, understanding, and prayer.

The gates that “the Lord, your God, is giving you” is the level of entry and exit: whether you fit the level of bestowal, love, and connection and to what extent you advance in being similar to the Creator. This is your idea, your goal, and your star. This is how you should move forward.

One Desire, Different Intentions

Laitman_632_3Torah, Deuteronomy 19:11 – 19:13: But if a man hates his fellow, lies in wait for him, rises up against him, and strikes him mortally, and he flees to one of these cities, the elders of his city shall send and take him from there and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of the blood that he may die. And you shall not pity him, but you shall abolish [the shedding of] the blood of the innocent from Israel, and it will be good for you.

If a person’s desires are revealed on the level of intentional egoistic actions when he wants to harm and even to murder some desire, he needs a completely different correction than when he uses the anti-spiritual desire unintentionally.

We are not talking about the desire, but about the intention with which the desire is used. If any of the intentions on the desires of a person operate this way, then this intention must be killed, i.e., eradicated from the incorrect manifestation of its activities. This is its correction.

If the anti-spiritual desire was unintentional, then it had no intention. Then a person should attach a correct intention for bestowal, love, and connection to it.

If this desire is egoistic with a coarse intention for yourself, you need to kill this desire first and only then “give birth” to a new intention. It is written in the Torah that it must be done by the judges. You have no right to kill anything and anyone, neither desire, nor intention. A desire can’t be killed at all, only an intention, and it works only through the judges.

In other words, you need to create a system of judges within you and through it judge yourself and then decide which desires with the intention for your own sake should die, meaning must be eradicated, and which desires are just neutral, without anti-altruistic intention.

Desires with the neutral intention should be corrected and desires with the egoistic intention need to first be destroyed and then a correct one added.

This is called a revival of the dead souls. Moreover, this action can happen within a person at any degree and not necessarily in what is called the end of days.

When we concentrate on the correct attitude toward everything and understand that these are just egoistic desires that should be turned into altruistic ones by changing the intention from for my own sake to for the sake of others, then we don’t have any problems at all. We just want to know how we can change the intention, and the desires remain unchanged.

They should manifest in us according to the ability to restore the correct intention on them, and therefore these desires are hidden. However, once we receive the ability to change the intention from reception to bestowal, they are revealed gradually. The question is only how we connect to the source of the force that corrects our intentions.

Question: Does it mean that the correction of the intention still comes from the Creator? Can’t I correct it myself?

Answer: No, our goal is to raise a request to become altruists so for each desire instead of the intention for my own sake, we would have the intention for the sake of others and through them for the Creator. After all, the Creator is a collection of everything that is outside of me. Such is our work.

New Life #329 – Patience

New Life #329 – Patience
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Yael Leshed-Harel

Summary

We are under constant pressure and are impatient most of the time. Why is this, how does this state influence the connections between us, and how can we reach a more relaxed environment and be more patient?

We measure patience and lack of patience according to the disturbances from others. Our ego is growing and as a result, we have become impatient. Whoever interferes with my enjoyment, get lost!

Israelis are especially impatient because they have very big egos. They want immediate results.

In the next generation, impatience will grow even more. Life will become very difficult with social problems and health problems. Due to impatience, the family unit is collapsing and people don’t want to get married or have children.

It’s possible to relate to someone with patience only if he is a very close friend, when we are connected as one.
When I feel good, people in society are loving, I am not pressed for time. I have patience, I feel free.

Try to develop a little love for the person in front of you, and then you will see that you have patience for him. When you work on a team on some project, put the pressure on the side and try to develop a warm relationship with them. If you put the building of good relations before the success of the project, you will succeed in the project as well.

In the next generation, there will be a difficult problem with patience. People won’t be able to stand each other. We must work on correcting man’s nature, providing education concerning the building of mutual connection.

Patience is the standard. Delaying gratification is better, putting something different in front of you and turning your attention to it.

If a person is impatient, it is preferable to have a few friends join him to share the tension and stress.

All solutions will come through the connection with others, through developing the ability to look at life through various viewpoints.

Midrash Raba And The Torah

Laitman_137Question: There are many quotes from the Midrash Raba in the book The Secrets of the Eternal Book. What is this book?

Answer: The Midrash Raba was written before the people of Israel received the Torah and it describes the events that are mentioned in the Torah. Because the Torah tells us about the time of the correction after the exodus from Egypt, the question is how those who have not entered Egypt yet could have known about it. The answer is that they knew and studied it, but they could not yet process those actions internally.

Question: The Midrash Raba describes how the force called Abraham was born, and it is not mentioned anywhere in the Torah.

Answer: The Torah speaks about the actions we undergo. Everything else is secondary, felt beyond the actions that are projected on us, implicit in the sounds and in the letters they are written in. The text of the Torah includes everything, not openly, but as the subtle internal meaning of the text.

There is, in fact, no thought or action in human history, from the worst to the best, which is not included in the Torah. Everything in the Torah must be fulfilled at least once in our world.

Question: Does this mean that you don’t negate the historical fact that Abraham actually existed?

Answer: No, but by studying the Torah, we begin to understand what this condition is, when Abraham was born in our world, and suddenly a man appears. Who are we? Are we actually living here, or is it some sort of modulation of forces that depicts such figures? Why do we need that if we can translate everything in communication on a different level in the form of force fields or information?

The Torah is a manual for people who receive the right and the left lines, which means the forces that help them form the soul and act clearly in trying to resemble the Creator. In that case, they receive it openly.

Therefore, in the corporeal world, Moses was born, who taught people, divided them into groups of tens, hundreds, and thousands. He had students who assisted him, and they had more, and so on. The entire group that came of out of Babylon began to form itself according to the spiritual level, which was later called the nation of Israel.

All of the intentions of this group were not simply aimed at the Creator. They were aimed at resembling and being equivalent to Him. In other words, all of a person’s actions and desires in every situation in life are aimed only at getting closer to the Creator, to being more loving and bestowing.

At the same time, a person rises above all of the problems, fears, worries, and failures, above everything the Creator brings along the way on purpose in order to shape him, because the spiritual shaping is fulfilled only from the oppositeness, from the corporeal and the negative.
