What Does The Torah Tells Us?

laitman_527_07It is impossible to understand the text of the Torah directly. Therefore, religions and all their distortions appeared from its misinterpretation, and they make us think we should fulfill its precepts in our corporeal lives.

And the Torah says that the group created by Abraham went down to Egypt; that is, they began to feel greater egoism.

Then they decided to exit the egoism, rise above it, which is called the exodus from Egypt. They are ready to connect among themselves to rise above their egoism, in other words, they accept the condition of mutual guarantee.

However, in order to fulfill this condition and begin to correct the egoism by realizing it in the direction of bestowal and love, we still need the upper force called the Torah, which means Light. And they receive it. The Light should enter their egoistic desires and therefore, they inevitably build the golden calf.

Moses is the part that unites them, raises them above Mount Sinai, which means mountain of hatred. He splits this Light and it enters their desires called the golden calf, melts them, and receives the mixture of very strong mutual egoistic desires, inside which the Upper Light exists.

Now they can start working with this terrible mixture, gradually extracting the required parts from it and connecting them into the correct system.

This occurs when Moses comes down from Mount Sinai the second time with the new Tablets of the Covenant on Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement), ten days after Rosh HaShanah (New Year), that is, after the realization of the internal upheaval and the entrance of the completely different goals, thoughts, and forces for correction—the existence of a new system.

In other words, in ten days, meaning in ten Sefirot after Keter, they reach Malchut and completely attain the system where they exist. Therefore, on Yom Kippur they judge themselves, understanding what they need to do and deciding how to continue to exist. And the actual correction starts after the Day of Atonement.

The first Tablets of the Covenant are the solid Light of Hochma, the strongest Light, that eventually must fill all the desires and reach the state of the world of Infinity, endless fulfillment. They symbolize Tzimtzum Aleph (the First Restriction).

The second Tablets of the Covenant are built on the condition of Tzimtzum Bet (the Second Restriction) when we can completely, fearlessly, without making mistakes, correct ourselves because the Upper Light comes to us not with the same force as the first time, and we begin to feel what desires can be connected among themselves and how to correct ourselves properly.

In other words, the second Tablets symbolize the small state, during which we correct our nature through gradual actions. All the wandering in the desert speaks exactly about this path.

What Does The Torah Speak About?

A Hundred Million For Security

Laitman_632_1

In the News (Jewish Press): “Israel’s two new ‘Adir’ F-35 stealth fighter jets landed in Israel on Monday evening, with great pomp and circumstance at Nevatim Air Base in the Negev. They were received with great ceremony by Israel’s leadership, including President Reuven Rivlin, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman, U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter, IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot, Israel Air Force Commander Amir Eshel and top IAF officials.

“’The Adir aircraft redefines Israel’s abilities of deterrence. It re-defines the IDF’s long arm. It redefines the realm of our ability to operate,’ noted President Rivlin.

“’Anyone who thinks to destroy us puts himself in danger of extinction,’ the prime minister said during the welcoming ceremony for the ‘Mighty’ Adir aircraft.”

Question: What is your opinion of the great hopes that are hanging on this acquisition?

Answer: I don’t think that any great hopes are connected to this. These planes constitute a deterrent, just like a nuclear weapon. On the other hand, it is dangerous because when you have a weapon of this kind, it encourages you to use it. But a deterrent like this is truly imperative to have with you and not with your enemies.

In principle, it doesn’t indicate anything. We will become stronger only when we strengthen our spirit. After all, the people of Israel survive not because we have a foreign weapon or something similar, but because we are connected with our roots, which we must bring to their final state, meaning that we must bring all people in the world to a good connection between them.

So the planes will not help us; the proper understanding of our ideological tasks will. If we specifically go out with this weapon and with the power of the spirit, we can win against all the evil forces and bring the world to the correct state.

Comment: In spite of everything, this relaxes a person somewhat. He thinks, “We already have airplanes, we have the Iron Dome. Generally this is some kind of protection.”

My Response: Indeed, but this is a very small compensation for spiritual damage we are causing ourselves. We cannot cover this up with that because we need to bring the world to a good connection anyway.

And we are doing just the opposite. So the hatred toward us will grow, our opponents will become stronger; they are getting closer and closer to our borders and are equipped no less well than we are. So we need to think about what we are doing with all of this. I would turn the one hundred million dollars that has been wasted on the plane toward education. This would yield much greater benefits and security.

To Avoid Spiritual Death

Laitman_632_3Torah, Deuteronomy 18:16 – 18:18: According to all that you asked of the Lord, your God, in Horeb, on the day of the assembly, saying, “Let me not continue to hear the voice of the Lord, my God, and let me no longer see this great fire, so that I will not die.” And the Lord said to me, “They have done well in what they have spoken. I will set up a prophet for them from among their brothers like you, and I will put My words into his mouth, and he will speak to them all that I command him.”

The highest corrected quality in a person from the right side is “Prophet,” from the left side, “King,” and at the bottom, “the people.” Therefore, the people, meaning those qualities of a person that still are in the process of correction, can’t be connected with the Creator at the level of Prophet.

Desires of the people can’t value Prophet and King. This is very serious subordination.

It is written, “Let me not continue to hear the voice of the Lord, my God, and let me no longer see this great fire, so that I will not die.” This means that a person should have fear in order not to go beyond the level where he can’t resist.

For example, if today I haven’t eaten anything, I am still able to hold back and not to take anything from the table. However, if I were hungry for several days, then I’ll grab anything like a hungry beast, not paying any attention to anybody.

Therefore, “so that I will not die” means not to receive for myself, because exactly this means spiritual death.

From “Desert” To The “Land Of Israel”

laitman_747_01The entrance to the land of Israel is an ascent to the level of the implementation of freewill. The 40 years of wandering in the desert before entering the land of Israel, means being in certain desires called Bina, which is a high level, but the freedom of will is implemented there on a very weak, we can even say a child’s level – just do as you are told and everything will be all right.

The state of land of Israel represents the worst place in the world, the most terrible, hated place, causing everyone constant squabbles and fury, the land which was said to swallow those who live in it. But if you realize this desire (land – Eretz, from the word “Ratzon” – desire) correctly, you reveal the Creator in it.

In principle, a person who moves from the inner state “desert” to the spiritual state “land of Israel” rises to the bigger egoistic desires and can implement his freedom of will on the next, heavier level. The terrible problems and opposition between good and evil are revealed on this level and he must solve these problems within himself.

Upon entering the land of Israel, a person discovers new depths and new miasmas in him. He is obliged to examine them and choose love over hatred, which is very difficult because he needs to pay for it with his “animal” freedom.

Comment: The entire drama unfolds in front of the people. For example, Moses knows that he won’t enter the land of Israel, but he sends his children there.

My Response: Of course, it is a frightening state when you were ready to go with your people, but you are not allowed to. What will happen to them? You don’t know. You release them and they become independent from that moment.

Moses led people through the desert. The desert is much lower level than the land of Israel because all the contradictions revealed within a person in the desert were quite insignificant relative to the next level.

Besides, Moses was in the desert with them as an intermediary between the people and the Creator, meaning the system of governance. However, this system no longer exists on the border with the land of Israel. It is revealed before us in such a way. These really are difficult states. Unfortunately, we understand them only on our material level, not in the Kabbalistic sense.

At The Point Of Choice

laitman_760_2At any point of our spiritual state there are two ways. Therefore the phrase “Behold, I set before you today a blessing and a curse” (Deuteronomy, 11:26) is repeated many times in the Torah.

This phrase is relevant at any given time because people are given freewill. A man is a creature that understands, feels, knows, and is able to realize the freedom of choice.

If at every moment of his existence he doesn’t see that there are two ways in front of him and he isn’t certain which of them is a blessing and which is a curse, then he is not a man but an animal that is urged forward by evolutionary development as a stick prodding him from behind.

But he considers himself a man because he is in concealment, and he doesn’t even realize that he doesn’t decide anything by himself. He’s  like a marionette in the hands of a puppeteer.

Therefore the words “Behold, I set before you today a blessing and a curse” are addressed only to a person, who through the study and implementation of Kabbalah, has reached an understanding of the paths that are in front of him: a blessing and a curse, and he can choose only one of them. He doesn’t have another alternative if he is at the level of implementing freewill. And if he doesn’t realize it, he is not a man.

Therefore, it is written about all the people in the world that they are like animals, apart from those who, with the help of Kabbalah, reach the level of freewill.

To Read The Torah All The Days Of One’s Life

laitman_527_02Torah, Deuteronomy 17:18 – 17:19: And it will be, when he sits upon his royal throne, that he shall write for himself two copies of this Torah on a scroll from [that Torah which is] before the Levitic kohanim. And it shall be with him, and he shall read it all the days of his life, so that he may learn to fear the Lord, his God, to keep all the words of this Torah and these statutes, to perform them.

Each person should be a king in order to appear before the upper King, the Creator. For that, he must have procured two upper lights, two special restrictions, the Cohens and Levites (the right and left lines), and in terms of Hassadim and from the standpoint of Hochma.

With both hands, meaning in two lines, he should accept everything that is given to him from above and react correctly to it.

A king in a person is the Keter (Crown) that accepts the upper force and transforms himself through all of his other desires and qualities. In other words, the connection with the Creator extends to all people through the person receiving the upper nature.

As it is written, “He shall write for himself two copies of this Torah,” meaning that he should write on his desires so that they will be formed correctly in accordance with the upper system

In “He shall read it all the days of his life, so that he may learn to fear the Lord, his God,” to read means to explore one’s desires more and more deeply within a constantly evolving egoism, rewritten with new points and signs. This is endless work until the complete correction of a person as long as he exists in this world, going through reincarnation after reincarnation.

He keeps reading the same book because the Torah describes the depth of our corrections until we completely finish the job.

Moreover, what we have in mind is not reading the text, but that everyone should write the Torah scrolls on their hearts, in other words, to form all of your desires in accordance with the upper laws of convergence, connection, up to love.

“Foreigners” In The Land Of Israel

laitman_747_01Torah, Deuteronomy 15:03: From the foreigner you may exact; but what is yours with your brother, your hand shall release.

Earlier in the Torah, it is written “Do not oppress the stranger who came to you” or “you were a stranger in the land of Egypt,” and so on.

It is impossible to explain these conditions on the material level because they vary from place to place, and according to the description given in the Torah, from degree to degree. Therefore, we can’t look at it purely pragmatically, in the material way because everything depends on the spiritual degree.

Question: What does it mean on the particular spiritual degree: “From the foreigner you may exact; but what is yours with your brother, your hand shall release”?

Answer: After entering the land of Israel, all are brothers. There shouldn’t be foreigners in the land of Israel because it is a spiritual state when egoism is corrected to a certain extent and absolutely correct interaction, connection, and revelation of the Creator begins between them. Therefore, those who are not yet ready for this are called foreigners.

A “foreigner” in the land of Israel is Klipa (an impure state). As soon as the people of Israel enter this land,1 they immediately start to purify it though their presence and wars with those who lived there, that is, with the uncorrected desires. Therefore, foreigners or the seven nations living in the land of Israel symbolize egoistic desires of the Jews who enter this level.

Question: What was the role of the seven nations who lived there until the people of Israel entered this land?

Answer: They had no role. Internally they are in each person as the impure, uncorrected, egoistic forces that are revealed only when a person fights for the right to be on this spiritual level.

And if he doesn’t fight, he won’t feel them. Without getting closer to the level of the land of Israel, a person can’t discover the seven nations, meaning seven of his egoistic qualities.

Comment: It is interesting that when we tell an ordinary person on the street that human nature is egoistic, he replies, “I am not an egoist, I am a giver.”

My Response: Of course, because he doesn’t reveal this within himself.

What Was The Talmud Written For?

laitman_527_07Question: What was written in the Talmud if there is the commandment in the Torah: “thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it” (Deuteronomy 13:1)?

Answer: The commentary to the Pentateuch (Torah) is not meant to be an addition to what was written. It is simply impossible to understand the Torah if we read it without explanations. If we didn’t have the Talmud, we could not understand anything about the interactions between the different parts of nature. The Talmud explains the interactions between people on the levels of the still, vegetative, animate, and speaking. It describes this with different images from our world, but it is actually speaking only about a person’s inner world of a person.

To Protect The Future States

laitman_622_02Torah, Deuteronomy 12:31: You shall not do so to the Lord, your God; for every abomination to the Lord which He hates, they did to their gods, for also their sons and their daughters they would burn in fire to their gods.

In the process of correction, egoism loses everything and dies in the end. After all, the sons and daughters are future properties, future actions of man, future states, and we must make sure they will be alive and that he will not burn or kill them.

In other words, our desires must go through correction and then move forward in the correct way. Otherwise, it is like you kill your children, burn them, and give them to your gods, meaning to your egoism.

“However, There Will Be No Needy Among You…”

laitman_746_03Torah, Deuteronomy 15:04: However, there will be no needy among you, for the Lord will surely bless you in the land the Lord, your God, is giving you for an inheritance to possess.

A person should care about correcting everything that exists at the new level called “the land of Israel” by becoming closer and connecting everything.

Therefore, he must “kill” even those nations that exist there. In other words, he should kill the egoistic inclination of his uncorrected desires, i.e., stop using them. In this way he corrects them and they remain in the corrected form.

Question: What does “there will be no needy among you” mean?

Answer: You have to provide your screen to everyone without exception so they are in connection with you and can receive the Upper Light.
