Attack from the Bottom of the Heart

931.01Question: How can we come together to a common attack from the very depths of our hearts in order to get out of the state of faithlessness?

Answer: You should talk among yourselves about the fact that the success of the entire operation depends on your attack now. When everyone tries to defeat their enemy inside them, then in the end you will feel that you are facing a common enemy.

In order to fight against egoism and not against each other, you must connect with each other and, as a result of the connection, fight with the ego.

Question: The external salvation of the Creator is the importance of connection, and the internal salvation is the war in man?

Answer: No, war is not salvation. We must see the help of the Creator in all our states, He pushes us forward to unity and to the feeling of one heart, one desire.

630.2Question: If it weren’t for your explanation of Kabbalah, I would never even want to hear what it is. But when faced with your explanations, I felt that there is truth behind it. Usually, this feeling holds you for a while, and then gradually goes away. And you are left alone with a lot of criticism. What should a person do in this case?

Answer: I do not care about lulling a person, appeasing, calming, or giving him the strength to resist those criticisms that begin to brainwash him as if sympathizing with where he, the unfortunate, has ended up, and so on. I am not interested in that! This is the fate of man, he must cope with it himself or he will not become a Man!

I am not going to come to anyone’s aid! I am being completely serious. Not because I am indifferent to the fate of a person but because he will otherwise not survive! It is necessary to push the little chick so that it flies. There must be a push! There is no escape from this.

This will only make you stronger! Only in the fight! In no case should this opportunity be taken away from a person. That is why I never help anyone! I watch with compassion how one suffers and how he cannot find himself!

I remember how once, emotionally I said to my teacher with pain: “Well, help me!” And he grinned right in my face. I was ready to tear him to pieces! I was in such a terrible inner state that I could not see day and night. I was tormented, boiling, smoking three packs of cigarettes a day, I could not see anyone, I ate myself up. I had such inner experiences, searches, misunderstandings, malfunctions, that death is better than such a life!

And my teacher, who, in principle, was to blame for the fact that I felt this way, grinned and did not even help! In anything! He only said: “It is okay. A little more, a little more. It will pass.” What “will pass”? And so on for months and months.

It is a very complex process when a person acquires the quality of another world and accommodates two worlds: the material world, acting under the egoistic force of reception, and the altruistic world, acting under the force of bestowal. These are completely different, opposite, contradictory worlds! At the beginning of the journey they are not connected to each other. A person is either in this or that half. And only then can he build a middle line.

It is in such a struggle, confusion, and clarification that a person consisting of two parts of the world is born.

But this is not an endless process. For each degree there are a certain number of states that we must go through. This is our evolution. This is the only way we can develop. In fact, this is a wonderful way of development!

The Truth Is Ugly, But It Is the Truth

202.0

Finally in this dull, secluded village to find him gone. In the ramshackle hut by the fire sat true.
He had never seen a more old and ugly women.
– You – Really?
Old, wrinkled hag nodded solemnly.
– Tell me, I have to tell the world? What kind of message to convey?
Old woman spat into the fire and said:
– Tell them that I am young and beautiful! (In Search of Truth, Robert Tompkins)

Question: We are looking for the truth, and if it is the truth, it is often just such an old hag. And if it is a lie, then it is beautiful. So is it really necessary to seek the truth in this world?

Answer: Definitely. It is necessary to seek truth. And we must strive for truth. It does not matter what it looks like externally. It may indeed be a very ugly truth, but it is the truth. As a result, it is the only one, the upper one, above all, and it is unique.

Question: And when is it said, and it is often said, “beautiful truth”?

Answer: “Beautiful truth,” I do not know anything like that. The beautiful truth is the one that blurs your vision so much that you cannot see normally, and you simply sell yourself to it.

Question: Can you tell me when you feel the truth?

Answer: In order to feel the truth, I must rise above my earthly egoistic properties and disconnect from them. And then I can see the truth, discover it, get close to it, and it will be the real truth for me.

Question: That is, “rise above the Earth,” does this mean to rise above the concepts of beautiful, ugly, and so on?

Answer: Yes.

Question: Pleasant, unpleasant?

Answer: No, I will evaluate it in completely different values.

Question: How can you accept the truth then?

Answer: One must rise above himself and keep himself at some level in order to look at the world from this level. And then to understand what you are looking for, where you are, and where this truth that you are looking for should be.

Comment: It seems that a lot of courage is needed to get to the truth.

My Response: This must be really great courage. I would say that this is a forced state, because a man himself runs away from this.

And sometime almost near the end of his life, when he begins to look for the truth, he can still find it. If it is not too late.

Question: What is the person looking for? Tell me, please, what is it—the truth? What is a man looking for all the time? All the time, as it were, he is looking for the truth, and at the same time he is not looking for it.

Answer: Meaning. And he cannot find this meaning. As a result, he understands that he can find, achieve, reveal, understand, evaluate, and feel this meaning if he rises above himself.

Question: What is “to rise above oneself”?

Answer: To rise above oneself means not to evaluate anything in the world based on one’s tastes, understandings, all kinds of evaluative feelings, and systems.

Question: And how can I cut myself off from myself, from my “I”?

Answer: That is the problem. But if we do not cut ourselves off from ourselves, we will always be under the thumb of our egoistic desire. And this is always a lie; we will not find anything.

Comment: And yet we are looking for the truth. This is what amazes me!

My Response: Yes, we still are.

Question: But you have to be prepared for the fact that it is old, that it is terrible. Should we be ready for this?

Answer: You can agree to it precisely because it is like that.

Inner and Surrounding Light

260.01On one hand, the light constantly applies pressure on our desire, wanting to enter it because the purpose of creation, as Baal HaSulam writes, is to delight all creatures.

On the other hand, with the help of the screen, the creation does not let the light enter because it does not want to feel shame. This collision between the light and the screen is called striking.

The light that enters the Kli for the purpose of enjoying for the sake of the Creator is called inner light, while the light that cannot enter is called surrounding light.

You accept only what you can get for the sake of the Creator. Whatever you still cannot, you leave, as they say, for later; it exists around you, like a surrounding light.

Question: But can you enjoy it too?

Answer: You can enjoy the fact that it exists, but it is not the same pleasure you get from the inner light.

Question: So the purpose of creation is for us to receive 100% of only the inner light?

Answer: Yes, in the end, the Kli, the creation receives all the light.

Ask Without Stopping

534Question: In an ordinary society, we are afraid that our egoism will be hurt and we try to pacify it. Why is it in the ten that egoism breaks through without restrictions; why is it so uncontrollable?

Answer: Because it is in the ten that we have to correct it. But we do not know what the level of initial egoism depends on. This is how our initial conditions and many other parameters with which we are born are set.

Question: What can I do if I understand in my mind what the recognition of evil is, but I cannot feel it in my heart?

Answer: Ask all the time without stopping like a child who wants something and you cannot get rid of him in any way. This is the way you should ask.

Questions about Spiritual Work—14

626Question: A person wants to be good and not just to pretend, but flaws are constantly being revealed in him. Can he build an intention that the Creator would change this in him for the sake of the friends?

Answer: He can ask the Creator for this.

Question: To what extent should the recognition of evil develop in us so that we can come to love of others?

Answer: The recognition of evil must be complete.

Question: Where can I find an example of an image of a person that I can follow and imitate?

Answer: These are your friends in the ten. Without this, you will not advance.

Question: When we work for the sake of bestowal and do not want anything in return, it is similar to the feeling of losing taste in a meal. What should we ask for in a place of this emptiness and lack of taste?

Answer: We must always ask the Creator to work with us.

Question: We should not wait for compensation for our egoism. But what if there are a lot of thoughts about this compensation in my head? How can I calm them down, how can I fight them off? It is impossible to find a foothold; there is confusion in my head.

Answer: Hold on to the Creator through the group. It only depends on Him to what extent you will be corrected.

Feel the Friend

565.01Question: You say we should feel the friend, connection, and merging into one heart. But I have never felt this. Although I feel the result of my friends becoming greater for me, and I see our commonality, I am glad that we are together, but nothing more. What effort should I make to make these feelings more accurate and more precise, or should I not strive for this?

Answer: You need to try to open your heart a little. Do various exercises to connect with your friends and you will be able to expand your heart gradually so that you will be closer to the Creator.

Question: No matter how hard I try, I do not feel the friends. Can I pray to the Creator to give me this sensitivity?

Answer: Of course you can. This is a very good request. The Creator will hear it with pleasure.

Question: How, without adding my egoism, can I pass a friend’s desire to the Creator in its purest form?

Answer: Do not worry about the Creator. To the extent of your exertion, desire, and yearning to pass to the friend, the Creator will feel it all perfectly.

The Weakening of the Screen

509In the “Preface to the Wisdom of Kabbalah,” Baal HaSulam describes a process known as “Hizdakchut of the Masach“—the weakening of the screen.

The point is that when the screen (the anti-egoistic force) begins to operate inside the egoistic desire, the desire and the screen gradually as if weaken each other. Therefore, there is a gradual thinning (weakening) of the screen and a decrease in the size of the Partzuf, that is, the desire that is capable of receiving the light for the sake of bestowal.

Thus, in a person, in any desire, there is a process of the disappearance or diminishment of all screens, Partzufim, Sefirot.

Comment: In principle, in our world, it turns out that if pleasure (light) enters a desire, it immediately extinguishes that desire.

But in the spiritual world, there is a screen that prevents the pleasure from extinguishing. But you said that there is still a process of weakening or disappearing of the screen.

My Response: This happens gradually, because the Light constantly presses and wants to enter fully the desires directly from the world of infinity. And when the screen weakens completely, then the expansion of the light in the Kli ends.

Just like in our world when you start to eat something, you gradually lose the desire, lose the appetite, the craving for food, and it comes to an end. But in spirituality, you consciously limit yourself so as not to receive in your egoistic Kli, and therefore, this restriction gradually reduces portions of the light.

The patent for infinite pleasure lies in the fact that since you cannot receive pleasure in the egoistic Kli, you use the screen to build a new Kli in which you can receive, but only for the sake of bestowal. And since the Creator is infinite, naturally, you can receive pleasure infinitely.

Causal Similarity

243.01A spiritual Partzuf is a spiritual desire, meaning, a set of forces and vectors that want to work for bestowal, not for reception.

The place where the decision is made about how much light to receive for the sake of bestowal is called the Rosh (head). The part into which this light falls is called the Toch (torso). The part that cannot be used for the sake of the Creator or society is called Sof (lower limbs).

The place where the screen is located—an anti-egoistic quality that allows the creation to do all these calculations—is called the Peh (mouth).

It turns out that the spiritual world is a world of clear calculations. That is the only way it acts.

Question: Is it possible to say that all spiritual forces and vectors, as a cause-and-effect relationship, draw a person into our world? Is that why we see the body of a person who also has a head, mouth, and so on?

Answer: Of course. Our biological body is arranged exactly in accordance with how the upper spiritual body is arranged.

In principle, there is no connection between our biological body and spiritual vectors. It is just that the spiritual body has given certain powers and qualities to create a biological body.

In the spiritual world, there are certain relationships between the head, body, legs, arms, and so on, which are practically embodied in our animal body. This is how we are built. This is a purely causal similarity.

Prayer Opens the Heart

625.02Question: Should I feel the pleasure that a friend gives to the Creator in the heart?

Answer: Yes. We have to work hard to be strongly connected with the hearts of the friends, and we will be able to feel the Creator through their hearts.

Question: How much does a prayer contribute to the development of the feeling in the heart?

Answer: Prayer opens the heart. If you want to increase its sensitivity, then this is done through the prayer.
