Don’t Try to Outrun Time

243.01Question: What does it mean that a person examines all his states with the help of faith?

Answer: He rises above himself in faith above reason and feels in what state he is in relation to the Creator and his friends.

Question: But if he is in the right line, feels eternity and perfection, loves his friends and agrees to remain in this forever, how can he go with faith above reason?

Answer: If he is in such a state, then he has nowhere to go. This state simply fills him and that is it. And what to do? Act only through connection with the group. You will succeed if you walk correctly, not along the left or right, but along the middle line.

Comment: But the middle line seems like a rapid change of states between the right and left lines: you feel perfection, then another state; you transition from one to another and no longer understand where the one and where the other is.

My Response: Allow yourself to move forward a bit. Don’t try to outrun time.

Attaining the Spiritual World

572.01If many people examine one spiritual thing, each will attain according to his imagination and senses, thereby seeing a different form (Baal HaSulam. Shamati 3 “The Matter of Spiritual Attainment”).

Everyone attains spirituality in their Kelim (vessels). What one person reveals cannot even be compared to the attainment of another. How can I get into him and try on his Kelim for myself? We attain everything in our desire and not in the desire of a friend.

Question: What is the difference between these desires?

Answer: The difference is purely individual, it is impossible to explain. For example, when you hear a sound, you can say it has a frequency of 400 Hz, a certain velocity and pressure, but you still cannot compare it with how a friend perceives it because you feel it internally, in yourself, and a friend in himself.

Question: If we attain spiritual objects each in our own Kelim, what are our chances of mutual understanding and true spiritual unification above all differences?

Answer: You will not feel the differences. Rather, attaining the spiritual world will bring you closer and will make you understand each other better.

Continuous Pleas

534Question: We constantly ask the Creator for the whole society to become one big family. But judging by the fact that we must go by faith above reason, we cannot do it within reason in order for it to be realized.

Let’s say we asked the Creator, “Please make sure that everyone lives together in peace,” but this does not happen. Should I just annul and assume that everything is fine, because otherwise next time I will not be able to ask for it to be realized?

Answer: You must ask for connection with your friends and with the Creator in one state, in the same bundle.

But if you made a request once and left it, then your desire was not real, not serious.

Question: And if I go above reason, will I be able to see the result?

Answer: You will see the result, but after the action is over. By connecting to your source, you will begin to receive filling from it.

Consequences of Spiritual Revelation

222Question: In Baal HaSulam’s article “She Is Like Merchant-Ships” (Shamati 121), it is written that Moses is modest and patient because a person needs to accept his lowliness, i.e., at each stage, he must strengthen in the realization of his lowliness. What does that mean?

Answer: Everyone should lower themselves before the friends and, naturally, before the Creator, and hold on to them. One’s existence is hinged only on holding on to the Creator through his friends.

He should feel himself the lowest, the weakest, the most lagging behind, and if he holds on to his friends, through them, he will hold on to the Creator. Being lowered actually brings one closer to the Creator because his pride and ego are suppressed.

Comment: Further in the article it is written that the moment a person loses his lowliness, he instantly loses the degree of “Moses.”

My Response: Yes. As it is said about Moses, he always felt below others, which is why he was the greatest. He believed everyone else was above him; therefore, he just served them.

It was precisely because he cared about the people that he led them forward and was their leader. After all, on the spiritual path, one who puts himself below others is the most advanced.

If you feel all the friends are above you and more deserving in your eyes, you can be their leader. Such a perspective is a consequence of spiritual revelation.

Question: How should we behave in this world?

Answer: Like ordinary people: honest, intelligent, and so on. We should not tell or show anything of our inner work.

Answer: You should hold on to the Creator more, and you will not be afraid. And if you feel that you have even greater fear, then the Creator calls you to hold on to Him even more tightly.

Carry Desires through the Fire

527.05There is a discernment of Zahav [gold], and there is a discernment of Kesef (Baal HaSulam, Shamati 175 “And If the Way Be Too Far for You”).

The article “And If the Way Be Too Far for You” is very special. It says that we should not pay attention to how far we seem to be from the Creator, and that we can make our distance from Him turn into drawing close.

Silver Kelim symbolize vessels for receiving the light of Hassadim, and gold vessels symbolize receiving the light of Hochma.

If we clearly understand that everything that the Creator does is for our sake, then all those silver and gold Kelim (vessels) that are in us, must be put through fire and melt, meaning their external form be removed. In this way, we will be able to create new Kelim from them in accordance with our new desires.

After all, “to put through the fire” means that with my desire I want to burn everything, leaving nothing of the past. And then I can make a new shape from the same material, which has again turned into a piece of metal.

Live in a Positive Way

597.02Question: When a lack of confidence and hope appears in the ten, can such properties as envy, vanity, and honor return it to the state of the spirit of life?

Answer: Of course. If you think about the state you want to experience in the ten, try to create it, and you will see it is possible. By imagining a good future, you will thus attract it to yourself.

Question: What should we focus on when we are envious or jealous? Do negative qualities ensure spiritual growth?

Answer: No, it does not increase spiritual growth. Envy with good envy and it will help you rise. And when you rise with your friends, then you will help them.

In any case, try to live with those positive feelings that you want to use. Start feeling them more, and then you will understand what you can use and cannot.

With a Staff in Hand

232.05Question: A person leans on a staff when walking. What is spiritual support?

Answer: It is faith above reason. The staff symbolizes this quality. Everyone must annul themselves before the others to realize it in the ten. Then it is considered walking forward with a staff in his hand.

You must correct your desires from reception to bestowal to receive faith above reason. This is only possible in a group because one person cannot do it.

Question: How can you be in faith above reason, in complete faith in dissemination?

Answer: Ignore the failures and thank the Creator for giving you the opportunity to disseminate. In our world, you are His representatives.

Questions about Spiritual Work—53

268_03Question: Why should receiving the Torah happen at the top of the mountain?

Answer: “Mountain” (Har) comes from the word “Hirhurim” –  doubts. Doubts constantly fill a person on the spiritual path, but despite them, he still goes forward and climbs the mountain, although it is not easy.

Question: What happens to a person when he receives the Torah?

Answer: He reveals the Creator, is filled with the upper light, and feels himself in the upper world. At the same time, our world does not disappear anywhere. It is just that a person feels like he exists in both worlds.

Question: What should we do when hatred appears between friends?

Answer: We all must attack this hatred together and try to remove it by any means: tear it up, trample it down, burn it.

Question: If a person studies the Torah with an open heart but without a calculation of intention, does he receive its light?

Answer: He receives it. In any case, the study of the Torah attracts the upper light to us: small or big, leading him forward or not, it gives some light.

Question: What is our mistake on the path when we walk, make efforts, and the Torah suddenly becomes the potion of death instead of the elixir of life?

Answer: This happens because you are striving for egoistic fulfillment. But you still keep making efforts, and eventually, the light of the Torah will be replaced by the light of purification, and you will know everything.

Prepare the Heart for Feeling the Creator

237Question: It is said that our effort is the work of the Torah. What does this mean? Is this internal work or physical work?

Answer: You will not help yourself or others with your physical work, only with your heart.

To the extent that you want to connect with your friends in your heart, you prepare your heart for feeling the Creator and revealing His light in the common Kli, in the common desire—yours and your friends.

Question: Why is it that only a small number of people are awarded with revealing a point in the heart?

Answer: There is probably no need for more.

When we connect with each other, we will be able to influence the whole world, and the world will feel how much it needs this knowledge and will begin to move toward everyone. Then, the light will fill us to the extent of our collective desire.
