Don’t Expect Mercy from the Universe

707Comment: I thought that the law of mercy emanates from above, and that everything is held by this law. I thought this was the main law of life.

Answer: Why would it be so? I look at inanimate, vegetative, and animate nature and see no observance of such laws there. No, but humans, with their imagination, have scribbled countless books and theories about it. But generally speaking, no.

I think the worst human trait is inventing a future or surrounding reality for oneself based on one’s own desires.

Question: So this is a kind of violence? A person commits violence against nature?

Answer: Yes, and then he makes demands from nature: “Give me this!”

Comment: In other words, “You are merciful, and I want everyone around me to be merciful.”

My Response: Yes. If we reasoned soberly with nature, we would not make demands of nature, but we would demand of ourselves the correct attitude to ourselves, to others, to nature, to everything. And then, perhaps, we would get a hint about how the universe exists and in what way we can rise above it.

Question: So rather than demanding that the universe be merciful to me, I should demand that I be merciful to others?

Answer: Yes.

Question: “Merciful,” did I use the word correctly here?

Answer: It can be used like that, yes.

Question: Then what should be put into this word if we indeed come to being merciful? That I must be merciful to others, what should I invest in that?

Answer: I must do for others all the good and kind things that I would wish for myself. And under no circumstances should I imagine think that I will receive some kind of reward for it. Absolutely not!

Comment: This second part is very difficult: receiving nothing in return.

My Response: In this, in fact, lies the whole point of the first part.

Question: Then will I come into balance with the universe if I begin to move in this way, as you say?

Answer: If so, then yes. And then there will be no destruction, no self-destruction.

Make A Revolution Within Yourself

963.5I like lazy people; they do little harm to the world.

Question: So, they don’t really contribute much, but at the same time they don’t cause harm?

Answer: Yes. That’s good!

Comment: But that’s some kind of complete complacency, like a stagnant swamp.

My Response: So what? We’ll just stroll through a green meadow and graze on some grass.

Question: A sandwich in your pocket, and that’s enough?

Answer: Yes. You don’t need anything else.

Question: Just breathe the air and let nature take its course. But seriously? You actually like rebels and revolutionaries.

Answer: Inside yourself! Within yourself, do whatever you want. Stage all kinds of revolutions and wars, but do it inside yourself. And everything else, let nature live in peace; don’t disturb it.

Quietly move out to the countryside, buy yourself a little house instead of your city apartment, and live a peaceful life with a wife and children. What else does a person really need?

Comment: To see out their old age.

My Response: Yes, to see out their old age.

Comment: But at the root of all prayers lies an initial sense of gratitude, and inevitably it is followed by some kind of request. It seems impossible to have a prayer without a request.

My Response: To achieve one’s purpose. The highest, greatest purpose is to become equal to the Creator!

Comment: There is no peace in that. It is a state of constant movement.

My Response: Inner peace! Because I am absolutely certain that in this way I will reach the goal since I surrender myself to the Creator and in this I go with Him. And He can do whatever He wants. I remain in absolute peace.

Question: But this movement toward Him, isn’t that a source of constant anxiety, trembling?

Answer: It’s not anxiety. There isn’t even much trembling in it. If I am confident in Him, if I have faith that I am in His hands, then I am like an infant in its mother’s arms. I cling to Him, that is all, in complete safety, peace.

But each time I check myself so that I can remain in His arms and draw even closer to Him despite my egoism with greater fervor. I need nothing else. I am already enveloped in this cocoon, right now.

So what is there to strive for? Why engage in comparing myself with others and calculating who is greater, who is better, who is higher?

Question: But what about our constantly growing egoism? You speak about it all the time.

Answer: That is so we always have the opportunity to be in dynamic closeness with the Creator.

760.4Question: Why were we given this point of impatience, this evil?

Answer: It is so that we accomplish a great deal in life, so that we elevate this desire more and more, higher and higher, up to the level of the Creator.

Question: Which desire?

Answer: The desire for everything.

Question: You mean raising these egoistic desires to the Creator?

Answer: Yes.

Question: And what is the highest desire? What will we grow into from this point of impatience toward others?

Answer: To desire the Creator with the greatest passion.

Question: Does He want that?

Answer: Yes, that is exactly what He desires.

Question: So He wants us to have a passion for Him?

Answer: Yes. “Shuvu, bnei Israel, ad HaShem Elokecha” — “Return, O children of Israel, to the Lord Your God.”

Stay Young!

254.01Question: What would you wish people who are setting out on the path of searching for the meaning of life?

Answer: I wish people to enjoy the metamorphoses that are taking place in them. Everything that is happening in them, everything that is bubbling, that is life! Don’t grow old before your time. Don’t try to, at least not inwardly.

I may no longer be able to climb mountains or battle the waves in a raging sea. No, but deep within myself all this still exists, and all of it gives me the sense of being truly alive.

Question: So, is that what you mean by a person remaining young regardless of their age?

Answer: Of course!

Why Don’t We Hear the World Sing?

420.06Question: What does it mean “to hear nature”?

Answer: To hear nature means to be close to it.

Question: Close to nature, what is that?

Answer: A person close to nature is one who perceives everything around him as the attitude of the Creator toward him. Therefore, he does not see anything bad in it, right up to his own death. He also does not see anything bad in this: when it comes, it comes, and I go.

Question: Is it possible to live like this, in warmth and calm?

Answer: Yes, why not? Of course. It is an inner voice within oneself that simply has to be revealed.

Comment: But we have been deprived of this hearing, of hearing nature.

My Response: It is our egoism that locks us inside ourselves and does not let us turn anywhere.

Question: So, is it better for it that we do not hear nature?

Answer: It is an evil force that acts in parallel with the good force, but we give preference to this evil force.

Question: And how can we begin to yearn for nature, for this hearing?

Answer: Try to penetrate inside nature; this is a connection with the Creator. We must try to draw closer to Him. And then everything will work out for us.

Question: But this requires clarification. For a person, what is the Creator?

Answer: Everything that is around us.

Question: Is it all the Creator?

Answer: Yes. And even everything that is within us is all the Creator.

To come closer to Him means to reveal your sensations so that there would be no borders, no barriers, between you and Him. And then you will feel that in general, the whole world is filled with a subtle singing. That is how I would put it.

Question: Beautiful! I will not even try to clarify what that is. Let this feeling remain. Tell me, is this necessary for our survival?

Answer: The point is not to survive in this world, but to be in harmony with it. And that is how this harmony comes.

The Most Inconvenient Truth

36We cannot rise above what we feel. If we feel a world full of suffering, it means that we ourselves are actually like that. And inside, we do not really want to see the world differently. We actually want it to stay that way.

Question: So do we want this suffering?

Answer: Yes, we are used to it, we are in it. And this is the problem.

Comment: But this is actually an anti-life.

My Response: That is where we are.

Question: We are not living, are we?

Answer: We are not.

Comment: This is a total revolution—us wanting suffering.

My Response: Our whole history, of all people in general, is just a continuous
stream of suffering.

Comment: But we think we have been led into this. It is even written in the Torah: “Go and suffer.” By and large, it says that you will suffer. That is, we do not attribute it to ourselves; it is not us who want it, we have been launched into this cycle of suffering. It is not our fault. But you say that it lives in us.

My Response: I think it is our fault. We do not wish to rise from this level. We do not want to!

Question: So the whole task is to want to?

Answer: To want to turn it all around, to get out of this knot of suffering.

Question: What should one do to achieve this?

Answer: To achieve this, a person must stop hating others and bring himself closer to them. Then everything will change. I think we just need to forbid people from suffering, because doing so causes suffering in the world. Wake up and sing!

Question: “Wake up and sing.” That is, if it hurts you, wake up and sing. That very song: “Wake up and sing, try it for once in your life…”?

Answer: Yes.

Question: What should we figure out? What is in front of us? What is it?

Answer: The Creator! Nothing else! He makes such scenes and visions for us all the time so that we are constantly afraid and so that we would gradually come to understand these mirages.

Question: So, my desire for suffering should transition into the fact that before me is a…?

Answer: A mirage.

Question: And I have no right to suffer, you say?

Answer: No! As soon as you start suffering, it turns into some kind of corporeal actions or scenes.

Comment: Wars, and so on.

My Response: Yes. But if you do not allow suffering, everything gets better.

Question: And then I slowly begin to see the Creator?

Answer: Yes.

Question: When you say “the Creator,” what do you mean? What is before me, before us?

Answer: The force that controls the world, us, that wants to bring us to the realization of the right state of nature and ourselves.

Question: What is it?

Answer: Joy!

Inside of Us, there is Absolutely Everything!

137Question: What do we have to manage to do in this world?

Answer: In this world, we must manage to feel His entire system, the upper mind, and the will of the Creator that governs all of it.

Question: But we begin from a state where we absolutely do not feel this?

Answer: We do not feel anything. Then we begin to feel that we are completely confused. There is a period when a person simply does not know the why, the wherefore, or the how. Then gradually this goal begins to appear in us, the reason why everything is arranged this way. Starting from this goal, we, as if, unwind our life back to our birth and begin to understand how it all came to pass.

Question: And this point —the goal—that suddenly appears within all this confusion was it already in us, or is it put into us in response to our efforts?

Answer: Inside of us, there is everything. Absolutely everything! But we must sort all this out, and while holding on to the beginning and the end of life feel that we have lived through it precisely with the help of the Creator, in accordance with His intention.

Question: So, in principle, throughout our lives, we clear away all this garbage in us? We clear and clear until we find this point? Is this what human life is?

Answer: Yes.

Question: Is “garbage” all the other desires, other thoughts?

Answer: It is that which deliberately confused us so that we would dig deeper and figure it out.

Question: “Deliberately confused,” so we are given this on purpose?

Answer: Of course.

You Don’t Need Your Body

707Question: Suppose I am blind, how can I not feel that I am blind?

Answer: Look within yourself!

Question: What will I see there?

Answer: You will see everything: the sky, the stars, everything! Within yourself.

Question: And if, for example, I am deaf, can I be a musician? Will I hear music?

Answer: Anything you want. You do not need your five senses. You do not
need your body! If we did not have a body, we would be so happy and perfect!

Question: So, in that case, would I not feel any deficiency if I sort of live within myself?

Answer: Yes.

Question: Can you teach me how to live like that? How can I get to this? It sounds so good.

Answer: I cannot explain it.

Question: Why do we become still when we look at the stars?

Answer: Because it is a part of the universe that is opposite to the one in which we exist. And it immediately tells us about its infinity and our finiteness.

Question: So I see infinity in this? Can I find it within myself as well?

Answer: You can find it within yourself. You can connect with these stars. You can feel how they exist.

Question: And by this, do I sort of pass into a state of infinity?

Answer: Yes.

The Upper Force’s Answer to Man

202.0The world has dried out. There is no literature or art as they once were. All that was left in the 18th and 19th centuries. There is nothing like this today.

Question: Why? Do we not want to enjoy life?

Answer: A person is becoming mechanical.

Question: Why is the upper force doing such things to us? What is the purpose?

Answer: I will speak on behalf of the upper force. “First, it is so that you would realize the negativity and insignificance of your existence and would want to change it.”

Question: May I speak to the upper force on behalf of humanity?

Answer: Go ahead.

Comment: But you, the upper force, have created us like this. You did it!

My Response: “This is correct. I created you. I created you in such a way that you would choose the correct way of life.”

Question: Wasn’t it possible to place us in the correct way of life right away?

Answer: “Absolutely not!”

Question: Why?

Answer: “Because you would be an automaton. But now, you have a choice between this and that. And I want you to exist precisely within this choice and gradually, gradually, gradually choose the optimal existence for yourself in which you would be similar to Me.”

Comment: Meaning, the upper force has…

My Response: There is a program, there is a goal! Everything is prepared, of course.

Question: He is so egoistic: “So you would become similar to Me”?

Answer: Perhaps you can say it this way. However, to become similar to the Creator means to become absolutely kind, absolutely loving toward everyone, and so forth. Here, on the contrary, a person should grow anti-egoistic properties.

Question: Does it mean that You, the upper force, want precisely this from us? Is this the only and the most important thing?

Answer: The only thing! We absolutely do not agree with this.

Comment: Certainly, I do not agree with suffering.

My Response: Yes, but, I see that if I think in a sensible way, then I will probably have no choice but to agree with You.

Question: Are you speaking to the upper force on behalf of humanity?

Answer: Yes

Question: So, should we agree?

Answer: Ultimately, yes. If we create such a society and connections between us where we will support this idea, it will be very easy for us, and we will reach this state pretty fast.

252Question: What do we have to clarify? What is lies before us? What is it?

Answer: It is the Creator! Nothing else! He constantly presents us with such scenes and visions so that we will remain in a state of fear all the time and gradually, little by little come to understand these mirages.

Question: So my inclination to suffering should transform into the understanding that what actually stands before me is…?

Answer: A mirage. The moment you begin to suffer, it takes on the guise of various corporeal actions and scenes.

Comment: Wars and so on.

My Response: Yes, but if you do not allow yourself to suffer, then everything is corrected.

Question: And then I slowly begin to perceive the Creator?

Answer: Yes.

Question: When you say “the Creator,” what do you mean? What stands before me, before us?

Answer: It is the force that governs the world and governs us; the force that wants to bring us to the awareness of the correct state of nature and of ourselves.
