One Percent That Made A Human From A Monkey, Part 4

laitman_754Animals live in the current moment and don’t feel past, present, and future. They have a very short memory, and they can’t know what happened to their ancestors a thousand years ago or what could happen in a thousand years. They don’t care about the distant future, and they do not sit on international committees discussing the future of the world.

A human, however, constantly worries about his future or regrets the past and almost never lives in the current moment. It turns out that we are worse off than animals. If we knew the answer to the questions: Why do we live, where did we come from, and where we are going?, we would have been higher than animals because we would see the whole perspective.

But we don’t know this and every moment we ask ourselves about the purpose of our existence, which makes us the most miserable creatures. Nature won’t allow us to concentrate on the current moment, but makes us explore the past and the future in order to discover our source and ultimate goal.

We don’t want to be tied to our body and live like animals. Human life is not limited to one physical existence; a person wants to see the entire world from end to end, to see the future and understand why he lives.

The law of cause and effect acts everywhere in nature; each phenomenon has its cause and effect. I also want to know what the cause of my life is and what is its effect? Why was I born? There must be an answer to this question established in nature, because everything in it is consistent and obeys higher logic.

If nature develops such a clever and unique creature as a human and gives him such questions, it means he is obliged to find the solution and discover what he is living for and why.

Question: Doesn’t a chimpanzee want to find out why it is living?

Answer: No, chimpanzees only care about how to live this moment better, how to establish a life for themselves and their descendants, but nothing more. Animals even care for their children only for a short time. Then the young grow and the connection between them and their parents ends.

Question: So it turns out that all the special abilities of a human have a completely different purpose that we are looking for, but haven’t found yet?

Answer: Of course! Nature designated a special mission to us that we haven’t discovered yet. We are probably not yet ready to use it correctly, and therefore, it remains concealed from us. However, questions we ask ourselves now and the disappointments we face push us to develop, causing us to clarify this question and answer it. This is the main task of the current period.

Question: Does this explain the chaos that rules everywhere now?

Answer: Crisis” means the birth of a new degree. This is the correct translation of the word.

Laitman_088Question: It is not by chance that the human level is called “speaking” in Kabbalah, since speech is what distinguishes humans from animals. We can talk, express our desires and thoughts. However, it turns out that animals, and especially monkeys, also have their own language. How is it different from human language?

Answer: Animals have their own languages within the framework required for their lives. They don’t feel any need for anything more.

Animal language passes between each other all the information relevant for their lives, existence, and the maintenance of relationships between them. Whereas for the people, the most important thing is to convey information to each other about our development.

This is why human language must be very rich and complemented by pictures, drawings, writing, all sorts of characters, singing, and the transfer of information through written letters and other types of memory.

Our development obligates us to this. An animal is attached to the current moment in which it presently lives. A human, however, feels the connection with the past and the future, and therefore he requires some kind of addition to his memory that will help him store the information and pass it on from one generation to another and within a few generations. This is the only way he can advance.

Although this is not the most important thing in a human. We haven’t yet touched the main difference between a human and an animal, which is his special and high destiny. So far we are discussing only things that distinguish us from animals in this material life: language, culture, education, building human society and government with all its systems.

All this was developed by people and organized naturally, and it is present in different cultures: in South America, China, Africa, and Oceania.

But the special destiny of human is reaching the human level that is called Adam (Man). This is not an animal that is just a little more developed. All human life that raises him above the animal level is to know the source of his life, its cause and purpose.

These are the questions that separate man from any animal, including the chimpanzee. A monkey doesn’t ask itself about the meaning of its life and therefore it doesn’t develop. And the human does, and this question forces him to create religions, beliefs, contact with the hidden forces, to look for something that exists outside of this world, life on the other planets, and to think what will happen to him after death.

A person is extremely concerned with these questions. That is, he is not attached to the current moment only, to this physical, material life. On the contrary, he is ready to dedicate his entire life to find out with whom he is really connected. Who is he? Who controls and obligates him? What is he living for? What is this program that constantly pushes him to develop and makes him ask about the purpose of life and its meaning?

This part of a person develops more and more and demands an answer.

Laitman_182_02The ultimate goal of evolution, its program, remains hidden from a person. Everyone naively believes that he knows where he is going, or simply doesn’t want to know. People are already disappointed in all of this life and prefer to go with the flow passively—today is the same as yesterday, until life ends.

We give birth to the next generation without thinking about its meaning, but simply fulfilling the program embedded in us. Nobody can answer why we need this life that isn’t easy, and why all this race? No answer, we prefer not to think about it.

The protective force of the body suppresses this question and doesn’t allow us to ask too much. After all, this question reduces us to the degree that is lower than animals. Animals don’t have this question; they act automatically according to their natural program. But people can’t live like this, they ask, and can’t find an answer.

That is why this question is very depressing to us; it shows us our own insignificance and worthlessness. Animals don’t ask questions, they simply live. Humans, however, try to find out what force enlivens us and why we are the way we are? We don’t know the answer, and yet we have to continue living and realize someone’s program.

This is a very humiliating form of life that brings us a lot of suffering. If we compare ourselves with a monkey, we see that it is much higher than a human. After all, a human knows that his life is meaningless and nevertheless continues to live. He fulfills the program of nature that is imposed on him. A monkey, however, knows nothing about this and therefore lives in harmony with nature. With every action that I perform at the order of nature, I confirm that I am worse than a monkey, since I don’t understand, but nevertheless act.

Therefore, nowadays a person runs out of patience and asks, “How much longer will it continue like this? Why? What is this suffering for?” If I hadn’t suffered, I would live my life somehow. But the problem is that we suffer all the time, from birth to death, and today this suffering increases more and more.

It seems that we have everything, but the question about the meaning of life awakens more and more forcing us into a deep depression. Poor, pathetic people, they are smaller than ants because all the creatures act instinctively, without asking, in full agreement with nature.

And in us nature left a question, as if mocking us. It makes us obey it fully, and it laughs and says, “Look what I am doing with you, and you have nowhere to escape!” It turns out that we simply must answer the question about the meaning of life.

One percent of the genetic difference between a human and monkey are just the external differences. The question about the meaning of life isn’t in this one percent. Animals also differ from each other genetically, so this is not the reason at all. The reason is that this question lives in the human and it evokes in him a great need to know what is the basis of life, the cause of it, and the purpose for which we live? We just have to find the answer.

Who Is The Wisdom Of Kabbalah Meant For?

laitman_254_01Question: Who is the dissemination of the wisdom of Kabbalah meant for?

Answer: The wisdom of Kabbalah answers the question about the meaning of life. Man has evolved for years yet he hasn’t asked himself about the meaning of life, but lived just like all the other animals. But as his egoism grew, he began to wonder, “What is the meaning of life and the meaning of suffering? Why do we suffer or for whom?”

In our generation many ask these questions, as is evidenced by the statistics showing half of humanity is depressed. The wisdom of Kabbalah tells us what the reason is and what the meaning and purpose of life are, not those invented by man, but as determined by nature.

The meaning of life is to reveal the next level of our existence, to ascend to this level in this lifetime, to transcend the barrier between life and death, and to break away from our corporeal body. There are many people who want to do so. And there are those who come, listen, and leave since it doesn’t interest them yet. There are also those who having heard our ideas turn to religion.

We don’t force anyone to stay because the wisdom of Kabbalah is meant for those whose ego has developed to the fullest. These people ask themselves the question about the meaning of life and feel that they must get an answer for it, and they need to know its purpose.

Laitman_709Above The Universe

If we rise and look at the whole picture, besides humanity, at inanimate, vegetative, and animate nature, then we will see a special, uniform law that treats all of us as a general system. Moreover, this system is closed, integral, and perfectly interconnected in all its parts.

This is the way that nature treats everyone, and only we, people, are opposite to it in our essence.

This implies the following: If we are opposite to nature, then we can study, understand, and perceive it from the side and become like it. However not naturally, like the inanimate world, flora and fauna do, but by solely and independently rising to the common, upper degree of nature that lies even above our Universe, and above the Big Bang that started it.

This is the real human degree, the level of man, from the word “Adam,” which means similar (Domeh) to the general system. In this way we will take control over it, we will understand and perceive all of nature, penetrate its depths, and be included in it. This is where the essence lays, the purpose of our lives, and our freedom of will. Only this is worth living. Otherwise we remain miserable ants that execute the commands of our body.

And this means that we need to find a method that will allow us to stand in front of nature, to study, reveal and research it, and at the same time, through this, to form ourselves in equivalence to this universal and global nature that includes in itself the entire Universe, humanity, and who knows what else.

This is what we must reach. Only if I attain this universal system, if I open it, if I find out what I exist for, how I was created, how I live and develop, and what form of comprehensive nature I must reach, only then will I realize myself.

This is my free choice: to achieve this or not, to enter into interaction, into connection, with nature, or at least into familiarity and understanding of it, or not. A person can freely build himself by absorbing the entire system, up to the smallest details into his mind and feelings. And then he will be called a man (Adam).

In this state he combines two opposite forces within himself. On one hand, according to nature of this world, he is an egoist, but on the other hand, according to nature of the global world, he is an altruist. He has a chance to acquire the second force. And this chance is waiting for its implementation. A person is led to this opportunity and then everything depends on him—does he want it or not? He discovers the method, meaning books, mentors, and a group for its implementation, in other words, the place where he implements his connection with nature. In this way a person can move forward and develop toward the stage when nature will reveal itself to him.

And he is free on this path. After all, he can, on his own accord, freely be included in the group that teaches him how to connect, to join to the comprehensive system of nature.

Why Do We Suffer? Part 3

laitman_600_04Question: It is hard for a person to overcome suffering: the loss of loved ones, illnesses. What is the essence of overcoming?

Answer: Suffering has a special role in our lives; it develops us. During its history humanity went through many phases of evolution developing societies and families, and all this was due to suffering.

This follows from the fact that we emerged from the shattering, from the one shattered soul called Adam HaRishon. Therefore we find ourselves more and more shattered in order to be able to correct ourselves more and more.

This is why from generation to generation, even from year to year, and in our time already from day to day, new phenomena, deficiencies, personal and general problems, and a crisis of humanity and society are revealed in the world. Previously these problems didn’t exist and suddenly they have arisen seemingly from beneath the earth, but this is exactly what moves us forward.

Suffering develops us, but to what extent?

The correct response to suffering, first of all, is to understand its purpose. Otherwise, we are like animals in a field running away from blows but suffering reaches them again. People rush through life until they die without reaching anything good.

And what is really the purpose of life? Is it just to escape from suffering the way we do? What is its meaning?

We rejoice giving birth to children, but they grow up and leave home. We study so much in order to get a profession, and then work all our lives and are left with nothing, because everything ends with death.

A person looks for some compensation for his continuous suffering. Even our pleasures are a way to escape from suffering. Obviously this is not the purpose of life. Actually the greatest suffering eventually revealed to the person in the modern world is the realization that with all our intellect, high level of development, strength, and technical capabilities, we don’t understand anything about life.

Why do we live, for what purpose? This is completely unclear. Suffering keeps us alive because we are afraid of death and we invest a lot of efforts in order to somehow distance ourselves from this moment. Although eventually we agree with the inevitable and humbly surrender to the current until we die.

It means that the greatest suffering is that a person doesn’t feel that he is the master of his life. He doesn’t know what he is living for and what the benefit of it is. Therefore young people don’t want to get married, have children, and get a profession, but are attracted to drugs, trying somehow to fulfill themselves.

Now, we do a thorough audit of our lives, and against the background of the unfolding crisis we still want to understand the meaning of life and its essence. The suffering from the meaninglessness of life becomes overwhelming, and this is the result of our high level of development. Previously people didn’t even think about this.

A hundred years ago there wasn’t less suffering, but the question about the meaning of life never arose. And today this question even torments children who don’t understand why to study and obtain a profession. The spiritual development has reached such a level that a person must know whether he should live and why. Therefore, antidepressant and drug use are so prevalent.

We need to make a big effort to uncover the source of the common suffering of man, i.e. teach them how to fulfill this common empty desire. Above the usual desires for food, sex, family, money, honor, and knowledge, an additional question arises, what do I need all this for? Why do I need food, sex, family, money, honor, and knowledge?

All these fulfillments are a kind of a drug with which I fill and soothe my desire to enjoy. So why chase fulfillment, isn’t it easier to just take a pill? This approach kills a person.

Shopping centers are crammed with a variety of products and all kinds of clothes. People go somewhere, fly, travel; they just don’t know how else to fill themselves, what other “drugs” to take in order not to feel suffering. But suffering still comes.

Therefore in our time the wisdom of Kabbalah is revealed, and I hope very much that it will help humanity to understand that it is not enough to soothe ourselves with all kinds of “drugs” in the form of food, sex, family, money, honor, and knowledge. It’s time to reveal the true, original source of suffering and begin to fill it with real fulfillment.

The real fulfillment doesn’t lull us to finish the material animalistic death. This suffering raises us upward and instead of the earthly death, we find an eternal life. Let’s hope that humanity will understand what opportunities are opening for it.

But all this is due to suffering, therefore we must not soothe it, but appreciate it. After all, in it is the foundation of life. The correct management of suffering and its fulfillment in every moment is an engine for the correct development that leads to the eternal life.

What Remains After Life?

Laitman_709Question: If a person wants to fundamentally “cleanse” his personal life, what is considered the “garbage” of life?

Answer: A person must reach the end of his life with having created connections with other people, connection through which the Creator is discovered. This is the only thing that remains after life and all the rest is total “garbage”!

Unfortunately, almost all live their lives in vain, except those who in time come to the wisdom of Kabbalah and properly implement it.

Question: So what does a person establish a family for?

Answer: If a person is living to attain the meaning of existence, which is to discover the Creator in this life, then all of his actions are justified and in the right direction.

The revelation of the Creator to the creatures is attainment of the entire system of creation, the system of management in our world and all the other worlds.  A man discovers a huge “computer” and acts in its intelligence, and is connected to and fully identified with it. He completely understands this intelligence, is connected with it, and begins to manage it.

Everyone must reach this state, as it is said, “My children have won” (Baba Metzia 59a). We must acquire this higher intelligence and it can be done during our lives. I invite you!

The Creator’s Trial

Laitman_182_02Every person in this world complains about his life, and of course everyone is right to some degree and perhaps completely. After all, he isn’t the one who puts himself in troubles, his nature, his lack of understanding, and his inability to see the future, in an unpredictable world. So how can we blame a person?

If we look at the fate of every individual and at the way he behaves, we will discover that each of us was born, lives, and dies forcibly. And one’s actions are determined by our set circumstances and attributes, not by our will. So in all things, a person is not free.

And in this case, there is nothing we can demand of him!

But here the true culprit responsible for everything that happens is revealed, the one who has created everything and is also ready to be blamed and judged. Because in the Creator’s trial, with all our accusations and complaints, we will discover His attitude toward us, the reason He created us so small on purpose, and why we are punished by ourselves and by nature. We will learn the purpose of our creation and our fate, why we are born, live, and die in great pain. Eventually we will begin to understand that all our complaints are to our Creator, and it is actually He whom we want to put on trial!

The only wisdom in the world that can help us is the wisdom of Kabbalah. It clarifies the problem of the mutual relations between a person and the Creator and so it is the main wisdom in the world because there is nothing more important for a person than the clarification of these mutual relations, and actually nothing but that really matters. The reason is simply that there is nothing other than that in nature! The Creator does everything, but is a person is ready to forgive and then to thank Him for what He does to him in order to bring him to the complete state?

Why Did The Creator Make The Evil Inclination?

Upper Forces Or How We Can Change Our Fate

laitman_572_03Question: Can you define the term “upper forces?”

Answer: The forces that operate in the upper world are altruistic forces, and the lower forces that operate in our world are egoistic forces and therefore we are all egoistic. The Creator says from the beginning, “I have created the evil inclination…,” which means that if you have any problems or complaints, turn to Me personally, and then He immediately adds, “I have created the Torah as a spice.”

Our world is the embodiment of all the evil that was created in us. The evil force, egoism, is the force that generates thoughts and actions only for its own sake, for its own pleasure, momentarily, which is revealed at the moment on all levels of nature: on the still, vegetative, animate, and the human. Living within ourselves is called evil because such a life is short, flawed; we are always locked on ourselves, on satisfying our immediate needs in order to maintain ourselves in a more or less comfortable state.

Let’s imagine that we have created a machine that operates for some time only in order to maintain its functioning and then to happily die. What is this inefficient, unproductive product of the Creator—a person who thinks only of itself, and, consequently, has negative efficiency?

Initially, there was no intention to create a biological machine, as a man and in general all of nature, to live only in order to multiply in great pain and great trouble. In our current state, all of a human life is a desire to survive somehow, to suffer as little as possible and eventually leave this hard, temporary life, to disintegrate into elementary particles, and to put it simply, to rot. Of course, you can not see any perfection or anything in the action of the Creator that would speak of it as of something higher, wise, purposeful.

Therefore, we don’t see anything wise about our life, but quite the opposite: from the first moment a person comes into this world he begins to get closer to his death. And if life is so short, there is nothing inherently good. This creation can not be created by an absolutely perfect Creator, and that we live, does not fit into His plan of creation to delight.

We don’t understand how the Creator, who is absolute and perfect, created such a world; what we undergo in life does not fit into His plan of creation to delight His creatures.

The thought of the creation is to bring the created beings contentment so that they should praise the Creator, resemble Him, so that we would attain the same level of perfection and eternity on which He exists. In order to raise us to His level that is totally opposite from the level we are born and live on in this world, we were given the Upper Light, the upper force, and also a manual telling us how to spur, summon, and fulfill that force so that it will gradually change us and raise us to His level of eternity and wholeness.

This level is totally different from the corporeal level that is characterized by the temporary egoistic desire to fill ourselves right now, no matter what will happen later. A true altruistic level is not what we call altruism in our world, but an intention to ascend above our egoism and to acquire a form that is opposite from it.

Therefore it is written: “I have seen an opposite world.” This is what we must attain in our world. In other words, while living in our egoism, we have to begin to change it, to rise above it, and to turn it inside out. But we don’t have the forces, the capabilities, and understanding to do so. We only suffer from our existence inside it.

According to the wisdom of Kabbalah, if a person suffers, it means that you can already speak to him, because as an egoist he wants to get rid of the suffering, of the ego. If we offer him to help him get rid of what constantly oppresses, beats and humiliates him, he will probably agree. This is what the wisdom of Kabbalah offers us.

Kabbalah was hidden as long as we were not disappointed with egoism and believed that it was somehow possible to live with it and to establish some kind of relations between us. And when we realized that we are advancing to the worst possible state, the wisdom of Kabbalah was revealed. When a person begins to feel that the end of civilization is near, when he no longer believes in a bright future and asks himself about the meaning of life, this is the state for which the wisdom of Kabbalah offers a solution. The solution is to change man’s nature into an opposite nature and thus acquire an absolute eternal happy state instead of the current state, which is finite, miserable, and vicious. This is how we can change our fate.

Why Do We Suffer? Part 1

Laitman_182_02Question: Suffering is an integral part of our lives, no matter how much we try to live well. What is suffering, and why do we suffer?

Answer: The wisdom of Kabbalah considers everything, starting from the bases of creation, of which there are two in nature.

First is the Light, the force of love, bestowal, and unity that is called the upper force, the Creator (Boreh), which means “come and see” (Bo-re), because we must reveal it. This force created the creature, the desire to enjoy, the lack of fulfillment.

The Upper Light develops a desire and forms it as a need for all sorts of fulfillments. All creatures, including ourselves, are various desires. Human desires can be divided into six types: food, sex, family, money, honor, and knowledge. Each person feels a natural need for all of these fulfillments, but in different proportions.

If a person lacks these fulfillments, he feels suffering, emptiness, and even pain. Sometimes, this suffering is so strong that it becomes unbearable.

Food, sex, and family are desires of our body, natural instincts that are inherent to all animals. Money, honor, and knowledge—that is, the desire for power, fame, position in society and in science—are purely human desires.

The source of suffering is the lack of fulfillment of these desires. When the Light doesn’t fill the desire, it begins to suffer. Suffering can be big or small, lengthy or instantaneous, general or personal, and so forth.

The wisdom of Kabbalah states that it has a method to get rid of suffering. Not by chance is it called the wisdom of Kabbalah, which means the wisdom of receiving because it teaches how to fulfill all desires.

On the one hand, this is a very popular topic, but on the other hand, this wisdom is hidden. If people knew that there is a method that enables us to fulfill our desires and become completely happy by getting rid of suffering, from the smallest to the largest, global, and universal ones, then, it might seem what could be better than this?

Indeed, there is nothing better. If we used the wisdom of Kabbalah, then we would be able to fulfill all of our desires, all the created material of creation, and feel in it only pleasure and eternal fulfillment that is called eternal life. Suffering would disappear from the world and we would be completely happy.

Conversely, all other ways and attempts to avoid suffering and fulfill ourselves will end in an imminent collapse.
