Independent Desire

236.02Because the vessel is the root of the darkness, as it is opposite from the light, it must therefore be activated slowly, gradually, by way of cause and consequence (Baal HaSulam, The Study of the Ten Sefirot, Part 1, “Inner Observation,” Chapter 6, Item 25).

A Kli is a desire that is generated by the light and develops gradually up to the point that it really becomes the opposite of light (the Creator) and at the same time is ready to perform its function.

The emanated being itself must independently reveal the will to receive in him, in practice, meaning of his own choice.  Independent desire appears under the influence of light (the Creator). There is nothing independent that would appear out of nothing.

Only the initial desire in phase zero appears out of nothing. The light comes out and begins to develop the desire in which it is located. All subsequent phases come out of the previous ones. So, there is nothing new in creation except the first, initial phase, which is not yet a creation. Only the last, fourth phase can be called creation.

The Essence of Sacrifice

509Question: From the point of view of all religions, there have always been sacrifices of plants and animals. Several thousand years ago, there was even a Temple in the State of Israel where animals were sacrificed. How should we relate to it?

Answer: Simply like it is—that it was necessary to sacrifice inanimate, vegetative, and animate, and as if to atone for one’s guilt by it. But in fact, this was done for a person to understand what the real sacrifice is.

It comes down to a person not to kill another but to limit himself, his animate, vegetative, or inanimate nature so as to use it sacrificing his feelings, his desires, his intentions, and thus correct himself.

But since people could not fully realize this or do it inside themselves, the sacrifice began to manifest itself in external actions. It existed among all nations, all religions, all communities.

Perform All Corrections within Yourself

209Question: Why are there two gradations in writing: printed text and cursive writing?

Answer: In principle, there should be no printed text. A person should be minimally concerned with his livelihood, and all the rest of his strength, time, and abilities he should use to unite with others in order to reach the level of similarity to the upper force, upper nature. This is his purpose. Everything else he does is completely unnecessary.

This entire worst, small world that appears in our distorted ideas is necessary only to ascend from it to the upper world.

Therefore, there is no need to invent anything, write anything down. You must immediately perform all the corrections within yourself and feel them internally.

Therefore, it is enough to verbally convey to a person the instruction of ascending from our world, and he must live by these laws, revelations, and wisdom. He does not need to read and memorize them. He must see them for himself.

To transmit verbally means that they tell me something, and at the same time I feel and perform, I am in the place that you are talking to me about, at this level, in these halls of attainment.

What was the point of writing or reading?! There was no point!

Records appeared only when there was a descent of generations, and a person no longer had the possibility of direct attainment. There were no teachers, there was confusion, and the mix-up began. Then they began to write books for subsequent generations, in particular, for ours.

What if we didn’t get these books? It is scary to say what we would do. We would be in terrible depression to the point of suicide.

Question: But the Torah originally was written?

Answer: No, it was not originally written. It was written by Moses during forty years of wandering in the desert, describing the states that people went through with him. This is called the “Torah.”

Then he gave his notes to Joshua and everyone else as a spiritual diary of what they went through together. There is nothing else in this book.

It describes how they tried to come together and then separated from each other, whether they were similar to the Creator or not, all the problems that they solved in their correction, why they made long stops in the desert and their crossing dragged on for 40 years. After all, this whole path could be covered in a week. But 40 years were necessary precisely for the past state to die and the future to be born.

The Light of Ein Sof and Malchut of Ein Sof

548.03All the worlds in the thought of creation, called “the light of Ein Sof,” and what contains the receivers there is called Malchut of Ein Sof” (Baal HaSulam, The Study of the Ten Sefirot, Part 1, “Inner Observation,” Chapter 6).

The light of Ein Sof (Infinity) is the light that comes to us from the Creator and fills the desire without any changes in the desire. Therefore, the light itself is infinite; there are no changes in it.

When the desire created by the light becomes opposite to the light, then it is called Malchut of the world of Ein Sof (Infinity). An absolute desire to receive, to be filled, appears in it while in the light there is only a desire to bestow and fill. Therefore, light and desire are opposite to each other.

The Light of Ein Sof emanates from Atzmuto until the upcoming end of correction, which is the end of the action. In principle, it contains all the information about everything that should take place before the end of the correction of creation.

When the Feeling of the Upper World Lives in You…

294.4Question: From where are the origins of handwritten and printed texts?

Answer: Handwritten text does not come from Kabbalah. Kabbalah has never welcomed recordings. Why record? Either you enter into the feeling of the global universe sensorially or not.

There is a teacher and a student. The teacher explains to the student what to do, and to the extent that he can adapt this technique, he begins to expand his sensors of feelings.

Therefore, relatively few books have been written in the entire history of the development of Kabbalah. They appeared only 2,500 years ago. Before that, people knew everything by memory; they had a sense of the upper world, so there was nothing to write about if they perceived it anyway.

Similarly, the method of revealing the upper world was not described since children simply adapted it in themselves. From childhood, they were taught to perceive the spiritual world through the correct attitude to others, and at the age of three to six years, they entered into its attainment. It was absolutely natural for them! The environment influenced them that way.

Not Knowledge, But Life

219.01Question: People who have been studying Kabbalah for a long time understand that when they go through difficult states, there is no point in screaming and getting nervous. They take it more inwardly. Is it due to their experience or to something else?

Answer: Of course, it is due to their experience. Over the years, you become more experienced, you are filled with all kinds of data, and you know how to react to things. It is natural.

But this happens at the stage when a person does not yet fully enter the upper world. And when he enters there, he becomes a boy again: “Ah! Ah!” constantly running from corner to corner as a child looking for something with his eyes wide open, such a Kabbalist.

All the rest are swaggering, important, and filled with all sorts of wisdom, but a true Kabbalist is not like that. He has nothing to fill himself with. He reveals everything in himself. He is as if naked. He does not have great knowledge. He lives in it.

I can tell you a lot about our world, but if you do not know this world and just have to memorize and remember the material, for you it will be just a mass of knowledge. And for a person who lives in this world, it is life. He knows that this is this way and that is that way. He does not need to memorize artificial things because for him they are life itself.

The same is true about the upper world. When it is revealed to a Kabbalist, everything becomes simple. He does not need any special knowledge.

I come to a lesson and they say to me: “Now we will read this article, or study The Study of the Ten Sefirot, such and such a world, such and such conditions, and such and such laws.” If I were a professor in some subject, I would have to prepare myself and refresh the material because I do not live in that era.

And in spirituality, I exist precisely in this. It cannot be easier for me to talk about it. You say one phrase, and I can talk about it for an hour because I live in it. With this phrase, you put me into a certain spiritual state, I see what is happening, and easily talk about it. Therefore I do not need to know anything in advance. On the contrary, it reduces the sharpness of perception.

Just Try It!

565.01Thus, you see that all these opposite forms in the whole of creation before us, namely the form of operator and operated, the form of the corruptions and corrections, and the form of the labor and its reward are all included in His singular thought. In simple words, it is “to delight His created beings,” precisely that, no less and no more.

The whole variety of concepts is also included in that thought, both the concepts in our holy Torah, and those of external teachings. All the many creations and worlds and various conducts in each and every one stem from this singular thought, as I will explain below in their proper place (Baal HaSulam, The Study of the Ten Sefirot, Part 1, “Inner Observation,” Chapter 5, Item 22).

Everything is driven by a singular thought and turns only in one direction—to bring humanity and every person to absolute pleasure. From the Creator’s side, this is the purpose of creation, and He leads people to this, although it does not seem so to us at all.

Question: Why do we not perceive it and see it that way?

Answer: In order to give us the opportunity to work and to correct ourselves.

Question: Was there no other way to do it?

Answer: No. Then we would not want to get out of our state.

Question: We could at least have some sign in all this. How can a simple person who lives, studies at a university, and so on believe this?

Answer: This is true, but there is no other way. How many people from all over the world, out of eight billion, can aspire for the purpose of creation? Just a few. Only the chosen ones.

Question: If a person suddenly hears our program or reads about it in a book, then he has doubts. How does he know that this is the case? You said that in order to receive pleasure you must fulfill one condition —”Love your neighbor as yourself.” But where is the proof? Maybe it will not work.

Answer: You just try it. After all, you try a lot of things in life in order to reach some kind of success. Here, if you reach success, it is absolute. So try it. What do you have to do for this? Just pay with your attitude to the other.

What Is Considered A Creation?

292The will to receive is set in the emanated being only through its awakening to receive of its own accord (Baal HaSulam, The Study of the Ten Sefirot, Part 1, “Inner Observation,” Chapter 6, Item 24).

Question: Is creation the emanated being that has its own personal will to receive?

Answer: Not only to receive, but even to become similar to the Creator. This is why, desire goes through four phases of development, and it is in the last phase that it develops a free personal desire to become similar to the Creator. Before that, it is not yet considered a creation because it goes through involuntary stages of development.

Hidden Calculation

559This means that after this law of the will to receive pleasure has been imprinted in us, we define ourselves by the name “operation” (Baal HaSulam, The Study of the Ten Sefirot, Part 1, “Inner Observation,” Chapter 5, Item 22).

After the law of egoism has been imprinted in us, we act only for the sake of our ego. Therefore, it takes great strength, diligence, and perseverance to understand how we can correct it to the opposite. Although the Creator is waiting and ready to help us in this.

Receiving for one’s own sake brings death to the bodies and every kind of torment and labor to the soul.

Question: Why is receiving for one’s own sake the cause of death?

Answer: It is because a person sees that he does not reach fulfillment. Eventually, this leads him to death, to exhaustion.

Comment: But there are still some fulfillments. People are receiving pleasure.

My Response: These pleasures are intended only so that we do not part with life. Just for that. But this calculation is hidden from us. If we clearly saw how much we enjoy and how much we suffer, we would not want to live.

Salvation or Correction?

283.01Comment: The group requires absolute compliance to its rules and discipline, as this is the only way to salvation, is given and a characteristic of cults.

My Response: What does the way to salvation mean? We are not talking about salvation. We are talking about correction. In ordinary society, there is a salvation army or rescue from drowning. We, however, do not have such a word. We have correction.

Humanity must correct itself and get rid of its ego, then it will come to a good life. Until then, its ego itself will be “pushing it with a stick” to happiness.

We talk about it everywhere. By the way, the Torah and all religions talk about this. They all agree that “Love your neighbor as yourself” is the main slogan of humanity. They just do not implement it. Kabbalah shows us how it can be implemented.

A cult is a closed organization with a clear, strict, and secret statute, which very cautiously lets people in and does not let anyone out. It has special norms of behavior associated with mysticism and some physical actions, like when people make self-sacrifice or self-restraint, etc.

There is absolutely no such thing in the Kabbalistic group. Everything is only within yourself and only regarding a friend, and then regarding the world with absolute kindness and love.
