Comment: Modern genetics can now enable scientists to change the genes of babies so that they will be healthier, more beautiful and clever when they are born and thus augment all of humanity.

Technology will also allow us to control the genes that are passed on to the next generation. Is it right to program the future child?

Answer: Science offers us many options and the question is how we use them.

Comment: Parents don’t want their child to suffer.

Answer: If we are given this option, I am in favor of determining in advance whether a child is healthy in the first place. If we could discover the gene of happiness and luck, it would be quite good. But that is not in our genes. Happiness is on a level higher than the level of biological research. When we have the chance to make people healthier physically and mentally, then of course we should use this technology.

People may object to this, especially religious people who claim that everything stems from the Creator, but if this is the case, what is the point in taking any measures and why should we go to the doctor, etc? It says that a doctor is given the permission to heal people since the treatment includes both a diagnosis and other elements that affect our body, and so we should determine and do it. If we could determine in the early stages of pregnancy that a baby has certain defects that cannot be corrected, the pregnancy should be terminated.

First, there is the time during which the embryo is formed and we should determine his attributes before it is formed. First there are the three days of the absorption of the semen and then another forty days of the creation of the embryo during which it is not considered an embryo yet. If we can determine what will happen to it during this time, then from a Kabbalistic, medical, and religious perspective it is not considered murder or the termination of life. This is the reason that we should use these technologies. I don’t mean that we should go against the upper nature in any way! On the contrary, I believe that after forty days, when the embryo receives its soul based on the roots and branches in our world, it is forbidden to intervene with its development. But we can determine all its attributes before that.

Question: Sergio Canavero, an Italian surgeon, plans to perform a complicated human head transplant, following experiments that have been carried out on apes in the US. According to the Italian doctor, the first operation on a human being will be performed within two years’ time. Do you believe that this is possible?

Answer: Why not? A head transplant is merely a technical issue, that’s all. If they don’t solve this issue now, it will happen in another 10 to 20 years.

I remember the first human heart transplant that was performed in South Africa in 1967. Everyone held their breath and waited to see whether the person in whose body that heart was planted would begin to think differently. We have very primitive ideas regarding the human body, and we think that there is some spirit living in it and that it is transferred to another along with a heart or liver.

Question: Still, the idea of a head transplant is a bit scary.

Answer: Yes, the head is the major part of the body. The thoughts that come from the head control the body.

Question: How do the thoughts come to the head?

Answer: This is a different matter altogether. There must be a different kind of transplant here. We need to connect to the upper modem in order to do so and learn to receive signals from the upper mind. This is a flight in a totally different class.

There is actually nothing in the head except for grey matter. The head is like a computer that is fed by the outside world, and there is nothing else inside of it. If you study the head, you will find nothing there since our knowledge is not inside our head, but is external to us, just as all of reality is external to us. We are merely vessels that perceive what is in space and nothing more.

We need to get into this space to the level where all of the information is: energy, knowledge, and most importantly properties. The attributes are the most important part because the information, energy, and knowledge are technical entities, while the attributes belong to the upper level of nature called the Creator. The uppermost attribute is the attribute of love. However, in order to penetrate the attributes, a person needs to undergo the special training that is studied by Kabbalists, the essence of the wisdom of Kabbalah.

The work of attaining the Creator’s attributes is replacing the head, which a person performs during his lifetime in this world without any transplants. It isn’t a transplant but a gradual ascent to the level of the upper information, the upper properties. I invite anyone who is interested in that to come and study.

My Comment: At the heart of human nature is a desire to enjoy fulfillment through: food, sex, family, wealth, honor, and knowledge. Nature (the Creator) wanting to develop creations, awakens selfish internal development (natural) and external, a feeling of envy in them.

As we develop, the importance of external influence increases. So we quickly come to a feeling of emptiness —the lack of fulfillment from our world as a whole and a need to search for content outside of it. Therefore, the social networks are booming.

New Life 496 – Where Do Dreams Come From?
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Nitzah Mazuz

Question: What are dreams? There are many myths and legends about dreams, this phenomenon has gripped humanity throughout all of history. Even the ancient Romans and Greeks tried to explain dreams. But until now this phenomenon has remained a mystery.

A person spends one-third of his life sleeping, and he dreams all the time even though he doesn’t remember most of them. This is the way our brain processes and sorts all the information that it gets throughout the day.

But there are some dreams that apparently convey a special message that reveals the future. Generally, where do dreams come from?

Answer: Even the Torah talks about dreams: the dream of Jacob, the dreams of Pharaoh and his ministers. A dream is a natural phenomenon, but sometimes we perceive dreams as things that are not serious, like unrealistic daydreams.

The wisdom of Kabbalah is of the opinion that during sleep the brain summarizes all the information that it gets throughout the day, and this is specifically what we perceive as dreams. These data has some kind of fluidity that appears in the brain without even any connection to real substance, they take on special forms so that we see unusual pictures of people, animals, and strange events.

The result of this is that dreaming, unlike reality, has no material foundation. So it is as if everything is happening in the air, without any connection to our actual desires.

Besides this, in a dream we can discover those desires that we would want to realize, but are not ready to do so, fears that torment us from which we cannot free ourselves, all kinds of fantasies, as well as pleasant and unpleasant impressions that we have experienced.

Among them are those that we would like to forget. And it could be that in real life we have been successful at this, but subconsciously they are still living in us. So when we sleep, when we are cut off from the real world and our environment doesn’t affect us, all of these fears and concerns are awakened in us and begin to live in a dream.

Dreams can tell a lot about a person: his inner state, desires, thoughts, all kinds of plans, fears, and disturbances. When he is under hypnosis, it is possible to interrogate him and get a lot of information from him. In this state a person loses control over himself and opens himself to interrogation.

Comment: Member of the Knesset Sharan Haskel from the Likud submitted a bill to cease incriminating marijuana users in Israel. The legal amount, however, is limited to 15 seeds or 5 grams of marijuana for personal use and the penalty for the possession of a greater amount is a fine of 1,500 shekels.

Answer: Such restrictions are useless since no one can enforce them. I am sure the use of marijuana will be permitted everywhere and the infrastructure of drug dealing will decline and disappear.

Question: Will the state take this responsibility?

Answer: The state will not take responsibility for that, but will only allow the free consumption and growth, and that’s all. Anyone will be able to grow and consume marijuana, and thus many will seat peacefully at home and smoke.

The outcome of the technical revolution we are undergoing will be that the next generation will sit at home idle and 90% of the people will be redundant.

Then we will have to tell people about the meaning of life and gradually discourage them from using drugs. I believe that it is actually thanks to the use of marijuana that people will feel what a dark hole they are living in.

Question: Why will this lead to the question about the meaning of life?

Answer: Because a person will face a clear and sharp question: Do I want to cut myself off from this world and die while still young and healthy, or do I not want to cut myself off from the world but attain the upper world through it?

There are only two options: either to deteriorate or to ascend, and if that is the case, why would a person want to be tossed about on the level of this world?

Question: This means that he will lose interest in the corporeal world because he will see that there is nothing he can attain here, but how will he discover that there is an upper world?

Answer: It depends only on the dissemination of the wisdom of Kabbalah. But these questions will eventually come up.

I am absolutely sure that everything that happens is only in order to accelerate the development of humanity, so we shouldn’t ban or get rid of anything because it will not help. The only thing that can help is the dissemination of the wisdom of Kabbalah and knowing how to attain the Creator.

Comment: Israeli health minister Jacob Litzman announced that in six months doctors in Israel will be able to give prescriptions for marijuana without the authorization of the health ministry. Today only 36 doctors are allowed to do so, but when the law is passed people will be able to get marijuana with a prescription in regular pharmacies.

It is interesting to note that people in Russia are prosecuted for drug offenses.

Answer: It is a matter of months before the same thing happens in Russia.

The whole world is going in this direction.

A couple of years ago when the campaign against cigarette smoking began, I warned that by banning cigarettes governments will encourage the use of drugs. You give a person a piece of bread, a glass of water, and a cigarette and he is happy. With stupefied eyes he will watch TV, football, soap operas, etc.

A person needs to be satisfied so that he won’t rebel, won’t make noise, and won’t object to the government and the state. Politicians realize this and fulfill such small requests and “take care” of people, throwing them crumbs just so long as they are quiet and let the government take control.

Question: Do you believe that the authorization of drugs is so that mankind will be obedient?

Answer: Of course, this will continue until the number of the world population gradually decreases from seven billion to let’s say one billion. When people don’t want to have families, and marriage becomes meaningless, humanity will shrink within one generation by at least half, and within two generations by four or five times. So I think that by 2050 there will only be two billion people left in the world.

Question: And the reason for that will be the legalization of drugs?

Answer: No. The reason for everything that happens is egoism. Once it reaches the limit of its growth, it begins to devour itself. It is just like children in very rich families where everything is allowed and so they go wild not knowing what to do. The ego is the same. It exceeds itself and becomes a monster that devours its own tail. It has no rationality.

Question: Does that mean that a person fills himself in order to forget? Is this why he needs drugs?

Answer: Of course, there is nothing he can do about it. The only answer is to educate people.

By educating them we insert the positive force into the world, the energy that balances the negative force, and between these two forces we can exist in a rational, correct, and clear manner.

We have a lot to exist for—for the revelation of the next level of our evolution: the universe, Ein Sof (Infinity), the world of the souls, the world of wholeness and eternity. We want to attain all that now and in a realistic manner, and if we don’t attain it, we simply take drugs since in its better to feel nirvana. What do we have in this world? I open my eyes and what do I see? A world that I want to withdraw from, to forget?

See how many people are in a state of detachment today when they are forced to use antidepressants. There is so much depression. It even happens to kids and pets, not mention adults.

Indeed a person finds no point in existing in this world, especially when he is no longer keen to work, to explore space, to achieve things in life, to discover something new, nothing. When we lose interest in sex and food we will have nothing left but to disconnect through chemical nothingness.

Question: Are you for or against the drug law?

Answer: I am neither for nor against it. Everyone is managed by our general egoism. Both the legislators and the drug dealers, everyone operates as the ego forces them to. So if we don’t bring the positive force that balances the negative egoistic force into our world, we will perish.

Question: Isn’t it dangerous to unite with other people; can illnesses and negative feelings be passed on to me?

Answer: In our lives we are in the collisions and interactions with other people and all sorts of germs and viruses are passed from one to another in our life. But precisely because of that we become stronger and build immunity.

The same thing also happens when we fulfill the method of unity. When we work on the ego separately it is harmful, but when we begin to work together and rise above it we find out how helpful it is. It is given as help against us. This is the method of correction that we should study.

We should be grateful for our egoism, because with its help we ascend the spiritual ladder of 125 levels. The higher we ascend the ladder, the more our egoism grows and develops.

It is an amazing process in which the higher a person rises, the more egoistic he becomes and at the same time the more spiritual he becomes. This is how the wisdom of Kabbalah differs from all the other methods because we use all the forces of nature, including the egoistic force. Nothing is left outside my correction. I absorb all the negative and positive forces and unite them in a symbiosis, a special bundle, thanks to which I ascend the spiritual ladder.

Question: A surgical operation to remove a tumor near a person’s heart was carried out in Belinson hospital in Petach Tikva. The amazing part is that a robot performed the operation. Answer: Of course, it is better for professions related to the human body like surgeons, dental technicians, and so on because people make many mistakes, and in addition, these areas are rife with corruptions and bribery, etc. while a robot doesn’t need money. Therefore, there are many fields in which robots can replace man.

Question: What will people do if robots replace them?

Answer: A person will lie idly and think about the good life, but it will not be guaranteed. Unless he finds the good life, he will feel bad with or without robots since robots will not make people happy. The problem is that we are evolving in a desire that pushes us to the question about the meaning of life, and it would be much better if we could get rid of this desire and not think or contemplate about anything.

More and more questions about the meaning of life come up as our desires grow, so a person loses interest in being healthy, strong, full, and satisfied, as well as in questions as to how to enjoy a holiday on a certain island or a show in a night club. Everything becomes meaningless, unpleasant, and even repulsive, and there is nothing we can do about it.

The problem is when a person feels a new type of desire for something that is above his corporeal existence. So, even if we provide our body with maximum comfort, it will be meaningless.

Even if we created an infrastructure that would keep us busy from morning until night, like in Disneyland and go wild like kids, we would not be able to detach ourselves from reality because the upper leadership has paved the way along which we should advance and reveal the meaning of life.

Therefore, we will not be able to stop these thoughts or cut them off. It seems that we are looking for something, but in fact we are constantly looking for answers to the questions about the meaning of life. We must undergo all of these experiences and find out that they don’t satisfy us. The most important thing is to come: providing the exact answer to the question about the meaning of life.

This is the reason that robots will not help us, and it is better if we manage without them. However, we should ask ourselves why we need a heart if we always feel it squeezing with terrible pain and emptiness.

Comment: It is known that thanks to psychologists who advise people to investigate their lives, they indeed find themselves and become happier; psychologists get clear results.

Answer: It could be that there are individuals who are happy, but I personally don’t see this, and I also don’t see it in any of the statistics.

In contrast to this, through investigation and study of the program of creation,  the plan of the development of the world, it is possible to say with absolute confidence that we have already passed through all the stages, the previous stages were better than the present stage, and they are certainly better than those that will be tomorrow. It will not be better. Nature is hastening us to advance so that we will clarify what we are living for and what we truly need, so psychologists will not help here.

Psychology from the days of Freud until our day has existed for about 100 years, and in the last 20 years it is practically in decline, so I haven’t yet seen psychologists who can lead a person to happiness. Perhaps psychiatrists can do this because they have pharmacological means.

The apparent result of the search for the meaning of life is expressed in the immersion of humanity into drugs. According to an unpublished statistical study, a large part of humanity already consumes marijuana. I am not expressing any opinion as to whether this is good or bad. In principle, it relaxes a person and diverts his attention from a search for the meaning of life. The wisdom of Kabbalah doesn’t agree with this. But all the others agree and encourage it.

If 10 to 15 years ago all opposed the consumption of soft drugs, today these drugs have been legalized on a political level because it is beneficial for the leaders because drugs anesthetize people and divert them from a search for the essence of existence.

Question: Why are there people who come into the world with conditions such as autism? How can people with low levels of mental development, who cannot read or write and don’t have the ability to study the wisdom of Kabbalah, undergo correction and attain the upper Light, the Creator?

Answer: We have to take care of such people. Society has to take responsibility to do work with them. In no manner or way is it allowed to neglect them because there is a great correction of the soul.

People in these states have no freedom of choice so they certainly cannot correct themselves; but the higher system carries out the correction for him, so these people are also imperative for our world.

Question: Is the correction also for their parents?

Answer: Not just for the parents, but for society as a whole.
